Worth the money..........2007-12-12
I have had the privilege of owning this camera for about six months now. I have taken it to, or in I should say, the American River which is not only water, but very very cold water. The camera worked flawlessly and even filmed video in and out of the water. The camera feels and looks expensive, and is fairly heavy for the size, which I like, some people do not. Here are my pros and cons.
Pros:
Underwater ability, shockproof, crushproof, freeze proof, pretty much anything proof!
Plenty of different modes to shoot images and movies with
Build construction is a definite "10" feels wonderful
Cons:
Image quality is not as good as most comparable 7.1 cameras
Video quality is a little noisy
LED illumination does not work while shooting movies, hard for low light videos
Battery needs to be removed from camera to charge
Everything is metal except the trim around the lens... doesn't make sense
Basically if you are wondering if buying this camera is worth it, its worth every penny in my book.
Product failed us on a once in a lifetime vacation.......2007-12-04
Would not recommend buying this camera! We purchased this camera specifically for a vacation to Hawaii. The third time we used this camera (in only a few feet of water) it leaked. We called Olympus customer service from Hawaii to try to get a camera loan or replacement for the remainder of our trip with no success. In fact, the customer service agent told us they had received many back because of leaks. Now we have a bad camera, memory card, case and skin and nothing but frustration dealing with Olympus. Extremely disappointed in this product and Olympus.
Very convenient camera for traveling to dive/snorkeling destinations.......2007-12-03
I bought this camera out of complete laziness. I didn't want to drag along all of the bulky equipment I usually use to video and photograph underwater on one of our dive excursions. Though only rated to 30 feet, I took this camera on repeated dives to more than double that depth (max was around 80ft) Though it showed no signs of leakage, you'll lose button function below 38 feet (though the shutter release will still work most of the time). It may commence some strange zooming and definite blue tones take over the images at those depths, but I still have some great shots (you can color correct to some extent with Photoshop anyway). Amazingly, though, it's not a good surface camera. There is no viewfinder and you can't see your subjects on the digital screen in daylight. The above-water images often come out blue and I'm not sure why. The videos underwater are pretty decent, but blue (as expected) however the ABOVE-water videos are also blue!!??! For the money and convenience, it was a good camera if only to watch everyone panic when I jumped overboard with it (housing free!) Enjoy it, but don't expect too much of it. I suspect with a little improvement, this might turn out to be a great camera for travelers.
awesome toy.......2007-11-23
GREAT camera! Nice pics, took it to Bali great in the rain and while snorkeling. Very nice underwater shots. Only complaint is the screen is a bit dim in bright sunlight on the beach. Nice record mode although hard to keep stable get a 2gb chip if you are planning video in high quality mode. Highly recommended for water and action enthusiasts.

Amazing camera, .......2007-11-21
My buddies have this same camera, and I wanted one for all my picture taking. It is very simple to use, takes incredible pics, and was very reasonable in price. I especially like the water tight compartments as I snorkel and take pics in the rain all the time. the underwater pics are very good. Just remember to rinse and dry your camera.

throw-away in 3 months.......2007-08-01
Shreds great for three months of lite duty - then fails one week out of warranty. Buy a better one once instead of buying this one and then a better one in 95 days.
Eats paper.......2007-07-29
This works as advertised. Eats up paper, credit cards, and CDs with no problem. It looks pretty nice, too; doesn't look utilitarian. If I could complain about anything, it is noisy while doing its job. No big deal for me, though. It works great.
great shredder!.......2007-04-13
I bought this shredder about a month ago. I never had one before, but it was overdue. so, when it arrived I fed it with a stack of about 5" of paper, gave him little breaks to cool down, oiled it in between with those lubricant sheets, but basically shredded non-stop. it handled it without any problems! I found out that it's better to keep the amount of pages at about 3 at the same time, but feed it constantly. it's faster than shredding 7 pages at once, and the motor doesn't overheat as quickly (it stops working when it's getting too hot, so you have to wait until it cooled down again).
I've spent days on research, looking at shredders and reading all the reviews. this product had all the features I was looking for, the best reviews, and it also caught my eye from its appearance (which to me, as an aesthete, is very important).
all in all, after using it for a month, I'm very happy with this product. I use it daily for up to 10 pages, and I hope it will continue to serve as reliably as it did until now!
Good price, good product.......2007-04-12
This shredder is built well, and I haven't had a problem for the few weeks I've owned it, whether it's shredding CDs/DVDs or a few pieces of paper at once. Great for home, or fairly small business use I'd say.
don't waste your money.......2007-04-03
The most this thing can handle is 2 sheets of paper... the motor on mine is dying and I haven't even had this for a week. It choked on 6 sheets of paper, and ever since the motor has been going nuts.
I think the problem is a fundamental design problem with the shredder after looking at the bottom of it... the paper can jam on the side of the plastic creating unnecessary friction, thereby ruining the motor.
Although this could be true of most shredders as well too. You get what you pay for.. Stay away from this one.

Customer Reviews:
Noisy. Dead in a year. 7 sheets? Of what?.......2007-07-29
Bought the Royal CC75 about a year ago. At that time it was $30 more than now.
It shreds paper well enough, but it's very prone to jams from about 3 pages on up. 7 sheets of rice paper, maybe.
The sensor that detects the presence of paper is not very sensitive, so you have to poke the paper around the throat until it notices and starts its roar and clatter.
Some reviewer back at the time I bought it said it was quiet. It's not; it's vacuum-cleaner loud. I wonder if that other reviewer was using one of those cardboard box crushers you see on loading docks before this...
Yes, it'll shred a credit card. From the sound it makes, you're never quite sure if it's going to finish, jam, or fly to pieces. It makes it, in the end. Very dramatic.
After about a year, it simply stopped working. At first I felt cheated but then, I felt relieved.
Not recommended.

09-12-2007 - Brand New Item. Description - ROYAL 16977N VF 700 Vertical Cross-Cut Shredder
Customer Reviews:
Good for home use.......2007-02-07
This is our second Royal 7-sheet crosscut paper shredder. The first shredder worked for 2+ years when the motor seized. This shredder is good for occassional use. It will overheat if used continuously. That's how we broke the first one, we were shredding boxes full of paper. This is great for shedding small amounts of mail each day. It is strong enough to shred credit cards. We'd buy this one again if our current unit breaks after 2 years.
noisy & broken w/in 1 yr.......2006-02-28
This shredder is unusually noisy and within one year of purchase, it stopped working. The blades no longer move and even though I've cleared what paper I can see, it still behaves like it's jammed.
Overprized junk.......2005-12-28
As an engineer I recognized that the construction and design of this shredder was poor, the instant I took it out of the box. But I figured it was just adequate for cutting paper. I was mistaken. Within a year it broke. The reason is that structurally its flimsy, the blades will spread open with the force that the blades use to cut the paper. So the geniuses at Royal figure they could fix this with a metal brace that will connect both blades and keep them from coming apart. Well the brace is on the middle of the blades, and the paper will get caught in it until shut down. After this one has to physically pry this paper out, this can be dangerous. As a designer myself I see how this fix would make sense, since the paper should have been shred at that point. The problem is that they had to extract a few blades to place the bracket and this caused the paper to brake in wide strips. These strips will get caught on the brace. It does say 7 pages maximum, but this happens even one page at a time. So keep your money, buy something different.
Careful, it's fragile.......2005-08-09
This shredder (like most) is top heavy, and I accidentally knocked it over last week. It immediately stopped working. I called the customer service line at Royal, who told me that I can send it back to them with a copy of my receipt (which I don't have anymore) and they would make a determination of whether to replace it.
So I did what all the warning labels said not to. I opened it up and rewired it to bypass the safety circuit (that makes it shut down when the shredder is disconnected from the basket). Now it works again.
But I don't recommend this item.

best looking shredder for cheap........2007-07-26
i like my little shredder. i've shredded practically half of my filing cabinet and it works well. i'll do no more than 7 sheet or 4 thick sheets at a time and it does fine. i won't work it too hard for fear that i'll make it overheat, but i've done a sizeable stack in one sitting.
no problems as of yet. it seems to be worth the money, and it's kinda cute, too.
Great shredder zero issues after several months of use.......2007-04-04
I've had this shredder for many many months now and it's performed perfectly. Zero issues. I'd highly recommend for daily at home shredding.
