Customer Reviews:
I'm in Heaven.......2007-12-27
Before I received this camera I was using an HP M22, which is a 4MP with 3x digital zoom. It was a great little camera for a digital beginner, but using the A650 is like I died and went to heaven. The shots are so clear - no grain! It's like I have my old Canon AE-1 back. When you take shots inside there is little, if any, red-eye...and if there is, the computer program takes it away without any problem. This camera is so "flexible". If you want to point and shoot you can, but if you are into doing it the old way you can use the manual mode! I absolutely love this camera!!
I like it.......2007-12-25
I have used A710IS before I bought A650. A650 is really bulky camera. It's heavy and big compared to A710. You won't carry it in your pocket. Bigger sensor means larger lens to achieve same zoom range as in A710. Also it has 4 AA batteries instead of 2 in A710.
Bigger sensor but more pixels so noise is just about the same as in A710: ISO200 is the maximum I can accept. Thanks to image stabilization I shoot at ISO80 most of the time. IS works perfectly.
Display quality is really good. Swivel screen really helps. Screen is not protected well so you have to turn the screen up side down each time you turn off the camera.
Photo quality is good with ISO 100 + Large + SuperFine settings. I have an impression that the lens is better than A710's lens.
Camera is fast. But I don't like flash charge time and autofocus speed compared to SLR. With 4 AA batteries flash charges a little faster than in A710.
Grip is not very comfortable for such a heavy camera but I got accustomed to it.
I did not like materials and build quality: my camera has a small chink between two body parts. I don't really care.
I don't like weak flash.
I don't like new controls behavior (compared to A710). For instance, to enable/disable flash you had to press Flash button only once on A710, but on A650 first press just opens Flash Mode selection Pop Up window. And second press changes current mode.
Camera does not support 1024x768 video resolution. Why have swivel screen if you still need separate video camera?
I would have changed dedicated ISO button with Slow sync which is available from Main menu only.
All in all, I like this camera.
Layman's review.......2007-12-22
I won't go into any technical specs about this camera, previous reviewers who are far more knowledgeable have already done this.
I upgraded to this camera from a simple Nikon Coolpix, as I wanted a few more options and better picture quality and a little more performance than the basic coolpix could offer. I also didn't want to go all the way up to a bulky Digital SLR either. This camera bridges the gap between a basic camera and one for advanced users.
It's not as big/bulky as the SLR's like the rebel but it isn't a shirt pocket camera like the Elph's either.
It has plenty of features to allow you to learn how to take photo's, allowing you to experiment with some of the more manual functions and not always rely on using the old point and shoot "auto" function but for those times you need to, that option is still there to fall back on.
The photo quality is excellent and at 12.0MP you get plenty of room to crop your photo's. I would recommend a larger memory card as the one you get with it isn't good for much of anything.
This camera is also compatible with the newer SDHC cards and I put in one of the 8Gb cards whis has plenty of storage for photo's and some decent length Mpeg's.
It takes 4AA batteries but is not as much of a battery hog as I had thought it would be. The rechargeables are great to have but the new AA lithiums do last quite well under heavy use.
Another nice feature, if you are low on power you can turn off the screen (which is a beefy 2.5" variable angle by the way) and use the viewfinder...a feature other camera's have started to leave out.
With some of the other whistles and bells, face detection, Image stabilization and a 6X zoom and this is a solid purchase for the price.
All that and its still very user friendly....
Great Camera with tons of features for an excellent price !.......2007-12-11
All previous reviewers have done a fantastic job so I won't bore you with the same. All I can say is that I bought it about two weeks ago, took it to a trip to Southern California and took over 500 pix and 4/5 flix using a 4GB and a 1GB SD card.
The outdoor pix are absolutely phenomenal, indoor ones with out using flash are too noisy and the ones with flash using Auto are extra ordinarily yellow, but I am too new to it to play with the settings. Plus this is my first Canon Digicam so I am not familiar with the menus and settings that much.
Overall the pix are great, size & weight is OK, I love the swivel LCD screen (a must have for me, coming from Nikon CP4500) 6X zoom is much better than generic 3X. I wish it were a little faster. I found it to be a bit slow to start and in between shots.
Six Mega-Pixels better than Twelve.......2007-11-27
After several weeks and 500 photos this seems a fine technically advanced replacement for a trusty A80 which finally died. With four batteries and a flip out higher-resolution screen I much prefer it to the somewhat similar A710 (now A720) that is in my family.
While generally agreeing with all the positive things and extensive details in the reviews written before Thanksgiving, one can wish for what Canon chose not to do.
A smaller lens is not the big reason that the A650 images are not up to the quality of a big digital SLR. Camera people know one problem is the race to have very high pixel counts on the image sensor that has replaced the film. The prominent 12.1MP in the advertising.
The same sized sensor with only 6 MP instead of 12 would result in better pictures. With fewer pixels you get a bigger cell size for each pixel. A bigger cell will collect more dim light. That means a stronger signal, less noise, when you are shooting in moderate light. Less need for the camera to fuzz the lens's sharp details to conceal the speckles of noise.
If you are comfortable with the bulk of this camera that barely fits into a pants pocket, as I am, then this is a very good choice. However I bought it with a tinge of regret at what might have been. I could have had better pictures from a camera with less flashy specs. If more of us feel regret your next camera may have fewer pixels and take better pictures.

Customer Reviews:
Not working well.......2007-12-27
The camera seemed ok till it broke. The button that adjusts the zoom doesn't function nor does the button you press for photos. We've taken good care of it so we're surprised it doesn't work. We're not sure what to do now. Not sure if the warranty will cover.
Cheap and fun.......2007-12-17
Im so glad to have buy this camera, It is by far more than I espected. Don't hesitate, If you have the money click buy. BTW you should also buy an SD Card (in my case I bougth a 2GB).
beautiful picture and easy to use.......2007-12-15
this little camera takes great pictures is easy to use and used normal batteries. The camera shins best with a large fast memory card.
Canon PowerShot A630 Digital Camera.......2007-12-14
THe Canon PowerShot A630 digital camera is easy to use and give quality pictures. Camera was shipped promptly
You'll want to order an upgraded memory card.......2007-12-08
It wasn't clear to me from the product description how inadequate the memory card included with the camera would be. It came with a 16M card that was full after I shot a half-dozen still images. You'll want to order an upgraded card (I went with a 1G SanDisk card) at the same time that you order the camera, otherwise you won't be able to do much with it. Otherwise I've been pretty happy with the camera, although I'm still playing around with different settings, lighting, etc.

CANON WATERPROOF CASE FOR PS-A630/A640 - Waterproof Case for the Powershot-A640/A630
Customer Reviews:
Canon Waterproof case.......2007-11-13
I received this case, made by Canon, a couple of days befor departing for a dive trip, so I was able to test it right away. It was easy to load the camera, and it handled well. The diffuser plate worked well to dissipate the flash on close-ups. What I didn't like was that the camera had problems focusing under certain conditions, such as taking a picture of small crabs, brittle stars or other creatures inside vase sponges. I am not sure if this was due to the case or the camera itself. The biggest problem, however, was that the case leaked on the first dive, fortunately only small amounts, so the camera was not damaged. I had a professional check it and he said that the main o-ring had uneven spots. Also, certain buttons (i.e., the macro button, the left scrolling button, and the exposure button) would squirt droplets of water every time I depressed them under water. Amazon exchanged the item. I would have rated it higher if these problems hadn't occured.
Good case, but this is a NOT US model.......2007-09-10
Good case. Tested it in our local lake and in the swimming pool. Works well, no leaks so far. Have not had a chance to test with scuba. However, I was disappointed to find out that this is NOT a case for US market. It came with warranty card removed. I've already sent back one case from another dealer that had warranty card in Japanese. Dealer explained to me that it was much cheaper to directly import it from Japan. This one from Amazon had no warranty card at all. I guess, Amazon started cut corners also.
This means, it will not be covered by US warranty if it leaks. Otherwise, no complains.
Good for use other than which it is intended.......2007-05-17
I purchased the Waterproof Case for my Powershot A640 to use on my family trip to Costa Rica. It worked well for day shots on the beach and I did not have to worry about sand getting into the camera or problems with humidity or rain and the potential damage to my A640. Unfortunately, the Waterproof case interferes with the flash, so all night/indoor or photos requiring a flash (underwater) include a large black square on the bottom right side of the photograph. This was very frustrating and is an obvious problem with the fundamental design of the underwater housing.
Good, but with limitations.......2007-02-13
This UW case works well in most scenarios but potential buyers should be aware of an issue with a drastic shadow in tight macro shots. Once I took it out of the box, I was immediately concerned that there might be a problem. The lens barrel is quite long (an admitted necessity) and contains a black rubber skirt, which is what blocks the flash and creates the strong shadow in the lower right portion of the frame. I'm guessing the rubber skirt must serve some purpose, though. Because the flash is above and to the left of the lens, perhaps the diffuser could have extended further down along the right side of the lens barrel.
I would still consider this a serious design flaw given that this case isn't exactly cheap. Really too bad, since it prohibits full use of the A630's incredible macro capability.
That being said, the UW case works pretty well if you don't get too close to your subject. I actually prefer the fastening on this case over that on previous models -- it requires less force to open and shut, yet seems just as secure. It does serve its purpose of keeping the camera safe and dry. A bit disappointing but not a completely bad product.
Good, but with limitations.......2007-02-13
I agree with the previous reviewer (Charlie) about the issue with the drastic hotspot/shadow in tight macro shots. Even before bringing it undwerwater, I was concerned that this might happen. The lens barrel contains a black rubber skirt, which is what blocks the flash and creates the strong shadow in the lower right portion of the frame. I'm guessing the rubber skirt must serve some purpose, though. Because the flash is above and to the left of the lens, perhaps the diffuser could have extended further down along the right side of the lens barrel. (The hotspot can be avoided by adjusting the flash intensity.)
I would still consider this a serious design flaw given that this case isn't exactly cheap. Really too bad, since it prohibits full use of the A630's incredible macro capability.
That being said, the UW case works pretty well if you don't get too close to your subject. Unneeded .......2007-12-21
These things are available individually and of equal quality locally, esp. the battery recharger. A Panasonic, higher rated in the reviews, would have served equally. However, they are as advertised and arrived in a very timely manner. I'm criticizing my shopping!!!
Canon Camera accessories.......2007-12-17
The camera case and rechargeable batteries are very handy on trips for my Canon Camera. I am satisfied wtih the accessories.
Excellent choice.......2006-11-03
This accessories kit gives me rechargeable batteries, saving me tie & money. The other accessories are items I would have had to buy separately for at a higher cost. A good purchase.
Bait and Switch?.......2006-11-02
This is the first complaint on anything I have bought through Amazon. This product was fulfilled through 47th Street Photo. I specifically ordered it because it was advertised as Canon brand name products. When the order came, it was a Samsonite camera case (nice, but bigger than the Canon item), and "off-brand" batteries and charger, similar to ones that I've had trouble with in the past. It was specifically the Canon batteries I wanted, in addition to the case. I won't go through the return process, but I'll think twice before ordering something again not sent directly by Amazon.
Canon Powershot A Series.......2006-07-04
Everything works with my camera just like it said it would. Only negative was that the secondary vendor also sent me someone elses order, and although I emailed them several times and call once I could never get a response as to what to do with the extra item.

Customer Reviews:
Suitable for distance subjects.......2007-05-23
This lens is well worth the money if, like me, you bought the A710 IS in part for its 6x zoom, recording wildlife encounters is important to you, and you don't want to carry around an extra camera for such occasions.
The main shortcoming of this converter is that it increases the minimum focus distance (at camera's longest zoom) to a whopping 6 ft. At this distance, the field of view is about 7.6 inches wide. Without the converter, at longest zoom, you can get down to a view about 4.1 inches wide, at about 22 inches from the subject. So, regrettably this means that if you want to capture miscellaneous subjects in nature that may be approachable (butterflies, lizards, whatever), you can probably get a much better closeup without the converter. I suspect it will mostly sit in my bag just in case I see a large animal standing around (but not too far away), in which case it can really improve the shot (almost doubling the subject's size).
You will probably not use it unless the subject is really special and worth digging the converter out. But it is helpful that a large leatherette bag is included with this lens so you can leave the adapter attached to the lens and just pop the whole thing on and off.
In an effort to get closer to the subject, I have experimented with reducing the zoom while the converter is attached. This seems pretty useless. For example, at 1x the view was ca. 4 inches across, 2 inches from the subject. At around 2x, at closest focus, you get ca. 3.5 inches across at 2.5 inches away. At around 3-4x, the closest distance goes up to 6 ft.
Vignetting seems a minor issue because you will mostly use this converter when zoomed all the way out. However, I could imagine situations where you are mostly shooting distant elk or something and you want to take a quick landscape shot without removing the converter. FYI, slight vignetting starts to appear when you drop a little below the halfway zoom (maybe ca. 3x), but even at 1x (35 mm equiv.) where you have almost a completely circular vignette, you still have plenty of real estate left in your image so it is not a big deal if you know how to crop out the blackened edges; but it is easy enough to pop the whole thing off, so that is what you would do instead.
In the end, the best thing (for me anyway) would be a highly compact camera with a built-in 10 or 12x zoom with good optics. This doesn't exist yet, so I bought the next-best thing, the A710 IS with about half the zoom I'd like (but much more than the competition among good compact cameras). But once that commitment is made, it's definitely worth having the 1.75 teleconverter as well. I may even buy an extra adapter ($20) so I can quickly pop on/off either this or the closeup lens without having to screw things together.
Solid lens from Canon.......2007-01-29
The optical x6 zoom on the Canon A710 IS is already better than cameras in it s range (i.e. non SLR). However, the zoom takes the picture up to the natural size; the tele converter lens really does make a difference.
Firstly, if there are any negatives, they are very minor; the lens and adapter are black - would have been nice to have been silver to match with the camera. Erm, that's it!
The main quality of Canon is the lens, which they always do well. The clarity of this lens is very good, with very little fuzziness at the edge. It also connects simply the adapter and seems fairly solid when connected. The electronics features help in the overall control of adding the attachment. The tele lens does make a difference for just getting that bit closer to get what you want.
Inexpensive way to expand camera capabilities .......2007-01-04
This lens is a good way to extend the capabilities of a general purpose camera for an amature photographer. Overall all quality and color accuracy of the digital images is good. The large lens diameter blocks the view finder, forcing one to rely on LCD screen for framing. The camera sometimes gets confused during action shots taking longer than normal to auto focus - a minor inconvenience.
Lens requires an adapter - a seperate piece to keep track of.
Don't buy the bundle if you have a Canon A7XX camera!.......2006-12-29
I made the mistake of selecting the bundle without reading the requirements closely. The lens is for a variety of Canon cameras but the adapter only works with the A6XX series. My adapter arrived and it doesn't work with my camera. Kinda misleading and now I have to spend more to buy the correct adapter separately. Bummer.
Also, Captain Jack is correct about the vignetting. This lens is sort of like a magnifying class that sits in front of the built-in zoom lens. If you zoom wide angle, you see the horrible vignetting he mentioned. If you stay zoomed in, it works ok. Disappointing.
Have to disagree with Capt. Jack..........2006-06-18
I've owned a PowerShot G5 for better than three years now, and while I've never used any of the lens accessories, I couldn't be happier with it. I also have an EOS A2 and it met all of my needs for a film camera. I thought I would be giving up a lot when I got the G5 to go digital, but so far, I haven't been disappointed. In fact, I've been surprised with how good the G5 is; since I bought my G5 I haven't even once picked up my A2, let alone actually used it. The G5 does everything I need it to do. The one and only drawback of it compared to my A2 is that it took me a little while to get used to the longer latency between shots; with my A2 I got used to having lighting fast latency (the A2's built in powerwinder goes at 6 fps) so it was a bit of an adjustment, but I'm not a sports photographer, so I've learned to live with it.
My next camera will also be a Canon digital, but I'm going to make sure to get one that's got a good latency between shots that replicates the powerwind on my A2.

Customer Reviews:
Dissapointed, but you get what you pay for........2007-12-15
Cons:
Flemsy: Must be very gentle or you will break off legs.
Cheap parts: Screws and bolts strip very easily, plastic isn't very durable, and the whole thing is not built very squarely. Have to finagle and shimy things to get them level.
Not small: Fully closed it is still 21" my good tripod is only 24"! This really doesn't seem travel to me. And if you put it in a bag I am sure that it would be broken by the time you got where you were going.
Pros:
Cheap.
It works, kind of.
Clamp locks for legs.
The mini tripod is cool, I think they were trying to make up for the horrible travel tripod.
I would only use this tripod to set up a camera for still shots. If you plan on moving other than picking the whole thing up and moving, get something else. If it were not as cheap as it was I would have returned it. But I think the mini tripod was worth the small amount payed.
A good buy.......2007-12-14
This tripod is a good for occasional use. Some parts are flimsy and it could use instructions which do not come with it. But for the price it's a good buy.
NOT WHAT I WANTED.......2007-10-31
THIS TRIPOD IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT IF YOU NEED GOOD STEADY FOOTING FOR YOUR CAMERA. THE HEAD IS MADE OF PLASTIC NOT METAL..IT MAKES YOUR CAMERA BOUNCE...THE OPTION OF QUICKLY REMOVING THE CAMERA FROM THE TRIPOD IS A GOOD IDEA, BUT YOU FEEL AS IF THE MECHANISM WILL BREAK IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
THIS TRIPOD IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY ME. THE PRICE IS CHEAP BUT SO IS THE MERCHANDISE...NOT GOOD FOR THE PRICE...FEELS LIKE A PLASTIC TOY.

Great product for the price........2007-08-30
This product is really nice for the price. I just needed a decent tripod for a 3 week trip so I didn't want to spend too much money, but wanted something still nice. I really like the travel bag and how when the tripod is not inside, the tripod section can be folded up and stored under the velcro flap making it less bulky. The actual tripod is better than expected and even works with my Canon D SLR Rebel XTi. It is very light weight which is great for traveling, but it can be a little wobbly when moving so take care when adjusting it so that it doesn't fall over if you have a heavy camera on it. It works great with my Nikon Coolpix S7c also. The mini tripod in the handle is best for smaller cameras, but still a nice addition for certain shots. I also like the flip locks for extending the legs instead of twisting locks. Overall this product is worth the price and more.
Product met expectations.......2007-08-03
This product met my expectations. The carrying case is a nice bonus and I like that the little tripod is stored within the larger tripod. This meets my needs.

Customer Reviews:
Good but flawed.......2007-05-07
We needed a wide angle lens for our Canon. This does the job, except for a design flaw which might be a factor for others. When the flash is on, the wide angle lens covers part of the flash's light and casts a shadow. The shadow then appears on the shot.
Lens Adaptor for Canon A630.......2007-01-26
This 58mm adaptor arrived very quickly in brand-new condition, and works precisely as expected and specified. I purchased 58mm filters locally, and have no problems. I am pleased with the transaction.
Not worth the money........2007-01-11
Dont bother upgrading your Power Shot Camera...Just buy a better one. The zoom lens ads a whole 5 ft to the view before the pixels become a big issue.
A cheaply-made but necessary accessory.......2006-04-11
This is first Canon product that has disappointed me with its quality. They must acquire them from their Chinese supplier for about 98 cents. This plastic device wobbles even when fully rotated to the detente position. I bought it to use with the Canon 250D close-up lens and it's barely adequate for that function. Canon should refund anyone who mistakenly bought one of these hockey pucks.
Canon LA-DC58F Adapter.......2006-02-20
This adapter replaces the decorative ring on the Powershot cameras (I use an A620) and provides a 58mm thread to add filters or conversion lenses. This adapter is fine for filters or close-up lenses, but as it is made of molded plastic I don't think it is suitable for wide-angle or teleconverters, which can be very heavy. For the latter, I would recommend the LensMate adapter which is machined aluminum (I don't work for or get any compensation for this, their adapter is just better for heavy lenses). Be warned that with some non-Canon-recommended conversion lenses, your camera's built-in lens may bump the rear element at extreme zoom, so be careful!
