Digital Camera Vivicam 6300 series.......2007-01-31
The little camera is an excellent product for the price, and the results I have had so far are very satisfactory. It captures an excellent image both indoors and out. The only problem I have encountered is its voracious appetite for AA batteries...I suggest strongly that if you wish to purchase this camera that you also purchase at the same time a battery charger, and TWO sets of rechargeable batteries! Otherwise you will be unable to make a complete record of your child's birthday party!
The reason I did not make this a 5-star evaluation is because the illustrated picture is NOT the Vivitar Vivicam 6300, but is another model in the 6300 series- I believe it is Vivicam 6300s, which is the slimline model. However, if you are in the market for a first digital, this is a very good choice.
Vivitar Vivicam-6300 digital camera comes through with flying colors!.......2007-01-23
I bought 2 Vivicam Vivitar digital cameras, one for each of my children. Both of them had no trouble getting acquainted with the cameras and were quickly charging them and then using them. So far we have experienced no problems at all and they both use them daily. My middle-schooler carries her around with her constantly. If there is anything I could say needs improvement, it would be the cases for the cameras. Though adequate, they are thin and don't provide a lot of protection. But the cameras are all I had hoped for.

Vivicam 4000.......2007-03-22
This has been such a wonderful camera. I purchased it for $199 in May 2005. The sharpness cannot be beat. However, I recently needed to get a replacement because my toddler got a hold of it and somehow jammed the lens (it won't go back in or back out all the way and just won't work anymore "ERROR 2").
At Christmas, I ended up getting my hubby a Canon Powershot S2 IS - which is just too bulky to tote around and doesn't take such sharp photos! I was disappointed because I thought it would be at least close to the Vivitar quality.
The replacement camera I chose for myself was the Vivitar 6320. It is a very nice camera too, but the DELAY seems even longer. Plus, I was so spoiled with the long-lasting rechargable battery of the 4000, that I'm not sure I can get over it. The 6320 takes AA batteries which need to be changed after a dozen or so photos (I haven't tested them shooting video yet.) So, if you have the Vivitar 4000 camera...take good care of it. It's the best!!!
This camera is the same as the Traveler DC6300 from Aldi.......2007-01-28
Which is where I bought mine.
It is a great value little digital camera, and competes really favourably with the Canons et al of this world.
Prints are fine and crisp.
The blurriness mentioned in a comment above is a complete non issue, since it is a phenomenon common to ALL other cameras. When taking pictures at low light without flash, even a trustly SLR will give you a blurry image if you can't hold it steady while the shutter is open for longer.
However, beware of battery problems. Mine stopped being able to hold any charge after 1 year of ownership and I was forced to buy replacements.
My father bought the same camera at the same time and had exactly the same battery problem as well.
But for that it would have been 5 stars.
What a bargain!!!.......2005-10-17
Having been an Olympus buff since my first digi in 2001 I was wary of switching brands to the up and comer in the digital world Vivitar, particularily because some of thier lower end cameras got some dreadful reviews (as lower end cameras often will!).
Nonetheless two hours out of the box, and I knew I had a winner!
The camera weight, size, build quality, and lens are outstanding! how ever all that means next to nothing if the picture quality is not great which it really is, color is really spectacular and vivid, strangely you do get a slight red hue under tungstun light though.
The Auto setting is really great and the feature where it actually tells you what it is doing when it is doing it (changing ISO, aperature, etc.) is something I have never seen before and really appretiate.
The flash is very nice as it does not over-power the subject as I have seen on many olympus and canon cameras, the drawback of this is of course is that it dosen't throw the flash as far, some make sure you are close enough or have sufficient lighting.
I cannot believe I actually use the digital zoom! although don't go over the 3x mark or pic quality really bugs out.
I could really go over the features forever but I won't.
Video is OK for emailing short clips but not great.
2.2" screen phenominal!
I could go on but I won't.
For the price of this camera you really shouldn't have any reservations buying it I compare the camera to Canons, and Olympuses of two to three times the cost.
You'll still be able to afford that 528mb SD card!
Improvements Could Be Made.......2005-09-01
This camera is my first digital camera. As a camera, it does okay. I carry it around with me everywhere so I won't miss any of those "Kodak moments" It's nice to have a digital camera in general. I don't feel like I'm wasting film taking silly pictures; I'm much more likely to just go wild with my picture taking. On the other hand, I think that there are certain things about this particular camera that aren't up to par.
First, and I know this is a problem with many digitals, the lag time between taking photos is sometimes very short, but sometimes up to 4 or 5 seconds (which is a lot when you have people standing in front of you smiling and waiting, or you want to catch an action shot)
The most upsetting problem for me is if you turn the flash off, even in well lit areas with a low resolution selected, the picture will come out blurry, unless you have it on a tripod or something stable. It took me awhile to figure out why all my pictures were blurry, I thought I had perhaps received a bad camera. After much experimenting I discovered that with the flash on, I took wonderfully crisp photos, with it off, I took blurry junk.
To go along with the previous problem, the flash is _very_ bright. All the pictures I have taken of my boyfriend are of him squinting at me. On the other hand, most other people don't seem to have as much of a problem.
Those are the only complaints I have, everything else is wonderful. The pictures do come out nice if you leave the flash on. The computer software is easy to use, the camera menus are easy to navigate. There are built in settings for taking portraits, landscapes, action shots etc, all the same stuff that you see on most point and shoots nowadays. You can adjust various settings manually as well, although I think the built in ones are fine. To me, if you want to manually adjust stuff, you buy an SLR. I haven't used the video camera part yet, to be honest I forgot it even has that ability til I read about it in the description.

Great underwater digital camera under $200.......2007-12-26
I'm really happy with the purchase of the Vivitar 6200W. I took the camera to Maui and the photos came out much better than the disposable underwater cameras. We went snorkeling 3 times with the camera and its holding up well. The feature I like the best about the camera is taking underwater videos with sound. The shutter speed of the camera is a bit slow (takes 2-3 seconds between each shot) but the photo quality is very good in daylight conditions. We weren't as impressed with the early morning snorkeling photos since it doesn't do so well in low light conditions. But overall, its the a great underwater digital camera under $200.
Pros:
- Video mode with sound (which also works well underwater)
- Photo quality in daylight situations is very good
- Case is well designed (2 latches to keep the battery/SD card compartment dry - it shouldn't have any problems while snorkeling as long as the rubber seal is ok)
- Low price
- Decent battery life, it'll last a 1-2 hour snorkel trip on AAs
- Case included
- SD card slot (I recommend buying at least a 1GB SD card)
Cons:
- The picture does not display after you snap a photo (it just shows a blank screen after you take a photo)
- No zoom (digital zoom is available but not recommended)
- Low light performance is ok, could be better
great value for the price.......2007-12-21
i ordered this camera for a trip to cuba that i just got back from. the underwater pictures i took snorkeling and on a shallow scuba dive turned out great - especially after i used the enclosed software to filter out a lot of the overall greenishness. takes very nice pics on land as well - they don't look great on the screen on the camera, but when you download them to the computer, they look much better. i think i actually had it a little deeper than 30 feet on the dive and it worked fine. only drawback is that it is a battery PIG, especially underwater, so take lots of AA's , dry the camera off between dives and change them even if they're not dead yet, 'cause they will be soon! so far, i am very happy that i bought this camera!
not happy!!!.......2007-11-27
I thought it was going to be great. I used this in the Caymen Islands and thought it worked great taking under water pictures while snorkling and visiting Sting Ray City. The next day we went to swim whith the Dolphins and I couldn't take any pictures!! Some how water got into the camera!!!
I didn't do anything different so I was not happy it ruined all my pictures on the SD card...
Great little camera.......2007-11-25
I have not used this camera underwater yet, which is the primary purpose for which I have bought it, but I have taken some land-based test shots and used the video feature to record a short movie. The camera has a ton of features (such as presets for landscapes, etc.) and is simple to use (Well, as simple as anything digital is nowdays.). Pictures are sharp and clear, and the camera body is reasonably rugged considering the inexpensive price. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a fairly rugged little camera they can take along on a hike or motorcycle ride, and be able to shoot in the rain or underwater without concern.Vivitar ViviCam 6.0MP Underwater Digital Camera - 6200W
great for the price!.......2007-11-12
This little underwater camera is a great deal for the price. It's 6 mp, not just the 5 listed in the description and seems very sturdy. It is easy to use and has a lot of features. Not good for deep diving, but great for shallow diving and snorkeling. I've shot a lot of photos with it already and they are pretty good quality.

Great all-around super-compact, extra-slim digital video camera for little over 100 bucks.......2007-10-21
Vivitar DVR-560G is a super-compact digital video camera addressing some of the needs that more expensive cameras don't. After receiving and briefly testing it I was so excited I purchased 3 more as gifts!
Here are just a few advantages and features that I like:
- Decent video quality. The video quality is somewhere between a webcam and an average video camera, keeping in mind that its recording at 640x480 resolution and 30 frames-per-second, while some Webcams are still rated at 320x240 and 15 fps. I do treat it as a portable Webcam that I can take with me and record videos to a removable memory card. This is awesome for non-critical videos that can be quickly shot in everyday situations. Though recently I was attending a wedding where no one was recording video and now I wish I had at least this little Vivitar with me.
The only problem is that video can be smudgy/blurry when you move the camera too fast, especially in low-light.
I also uploaded a test video to YouTube and you can find it by searching there for "Vivitar DVR-560G". I may upload additional videos as well.
- Decent video quality in low light when compared to standard video cameras. This doesn't mean that this camera takes good videos in the dark, but it's probably not worse than most webcams out there. (I also have couple miniDV cameras like Samsung and JVC that don't perform much better). However, the smudges intensify in low light due to longer exposure, therefore this camera really needs to be positioned statically in low light.
Note: there is a "night-mode" option in this camera, but I didn't notice a difference in quality when using it.
- Take-anywhere video camera. Great portability through its ultra-compact size, smaller than even most digital photo cameras. Can be easily put in a larger pocket or small purse. The size is actually quite similar to the extra-slim digital photo cameras Casio Exilim. Vivitar is only 25% thicker.
- Portable, reusable & removable media (memory) that can be easily copied to computer (although the memory must be purchased separately). You can also purchase multiple memory cards at 20 bucks each. Compare this with almost as expensive miniDV tapes, or cameras that have built-in hard-drive that is not removable and may require slow data transfer to computer via cable.
- Data compression. Movies are compressed in MPEG4 format and 1 hour movie takes about 1 GB, thus there is 2 hour recording capacity on 2 GB SD memory card. Compare this with 12 GB of your computer disk-space eaten per hour of an AVI video recorded with miniDV digital cameras. (unless you spend time re-compressing miniDV AVIs).
- Motion detection mode. This mode is not very usable due to the default setting that usually records only a few-second long clips after detecting a movement for 3 seconds. This means that many times the camera will start recording only after something happens, without catching the actual event. However, this feature still enhances the camera's use and can be interesting to some. For example you may leave your camera on for the whole day or a week and let it record short clips of your family's life throughout that time.
- The built-in 8x digital zoom is actually usable and up to 4x doesn't produce "digital quality" when taking videos. This might be because the camera has much larger resolution (5.2 megapixel) than it records on video. (the higher resolution is used for taking photos)
- The built-in voice-recorder is basic feature-wise but records decent audio quality. And hey, dedicated memory-based voice recorders can cost 50 bucks or more, even without removable memory.
Now for a few negatives:
- The built-in speaker is not too loud and low-quality. Actually one time it was making such a strange clicking noise when playing videos that I was afraid that the sound didn't get recorded. Later it turned out to be a temporary problem, possibly with the volume set to maximum on such a low-quality speaker.
- The built-in MP3 player is very basic. The DVR-560G didn't seem to recognize my music folders, and it has not categorized my MP3 files. This means that I have just a long list of MP3 files to scan through. I won't comment on the music quality as for me all MP3 players sound the same.
- The built-in digital photo camera mode takes only mediocre, video-like photos. I'd rate these photos at only 25% quality of photos taken with a dedicated digital photo camera at the same resolution. Therefore I would carry a separate digital photo camera for taking static pictures. However, possibly Vivitar could be useful as a photo browser, just like some MP3 players currently have (although I haven't tested this).
- The built-in 20 games look cool, but are quite nonsensical and you'll get bored after trying each one for couple minutes.
- Holding the camera when taking videos is little awkward therefore you may consider the DVR-550 model instead. I chose DVR-560G mainly because it is approx. 40% less thick (0.88 inch vs. 1.35 inch) and therefore provides maximum portability. Also, I was interested in using it as an MP3 player and photo camera, but now little disappointed with these features.
- Short battery life, about 40 minutes. I've purchased couple spare batteries on eBay at 8 bucks each.
- This camera could be incredibly more useful if it had just a little more video capture customizability/options/features. I won't get into details, but with a just a few more features I could probably write an article about many uses of Vivitar DVR-560G. The voice-recorder also lacks voice-activated recording and is too slow to start for taking quick voice notes.
In summary, don't buy this camera for taking photos, but you won't regret taking videos with it, or give it to your kids. You may also like to use the built-in basic MP3 player and voice-recorder. I rate this camera 5 stars only for it's video features, small size and low price. Many other features are extras that can't hurt either.

I bought this camera, It lasted about 4 months, screen is seems smaller than said. Soon after the top buttom to take the picture just fell in. This camera has never been dropped, and only adults have used it. So I mailed it to vivitar...They mailed it back---with a post-it note saying its fine!!! WOW, its fine IF you stick a pen or stick object in the top, to take the picture!!!!!! sheeesh. My finger wont fit. I wonder how they like taking pictures?!! IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO CONTACT VIVITAR VIA PHONE THOUGH NON-LONGDISTANCE...LET ME KNOW. I would pass on this. Its an ok camera for beginers. But mine, did NOT last. AND they did NOT honor my waranty. (which is still good!!) I wasted 10 bucks to ship it to them too, safely!!
