Copies XP OK Vista not............2007-12-16
My kaptop was configured with XP Pro and Vista Business Edition. When upgrading fom an 80gb to 160gb drive I used DiskCopy and Clean. Results. Only the XP partition works. I had to reset the boot paths in Vista only to find massive access issues related to missing or corrupt permissions. I May have to reinstall Vista or find another brand of software to finish myy migration. Point is software works with XP but not Vista.
Problems with drives over 137GB?.......2007-09-23
I've had mixed results with this software. I first attempted to use it to migrate my desktop's hard drive to a 300 GB PATA Maxtor. Unfortunately, the software failed during the clone process despite several attempts -- perhaps a 137GB issue? I punted, using the CD included with the Maxtor drive, which incidentally worked great.
I then tried cloning my ancient HP laptop's drive to a new 60GB 2.5" PATA drive. The Avanquest software seemed to back up all the partitions with no errors, but the cloned drive would not boot when reinstalled in the laptop. I don't know whether that was due to HP's hard drive configuration or a problem with the Avanquest software.
I then used the Avanquest to upgrade my wife's desktop to the 80GB drive I'd upgraded my desktop from. The Avanquest software worked great in this application, and was worth the money I spent -- but one success out of three attempts isn't that impressive.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Panasonic DMR-E95HS progressive-scan DVD player/recorder features a built-in 160 GB hard drive and PC Card slot, making it the hardest-working home entertainment device around. Now you have the option of recording to DVD-RAM and DVD-R media, recording your favorite programs to hard disk, or recording from an external digital video camera to DVD media--all in one unit. The DMR-E95HS is also a progressive-scan DVD player, which means that you can experience extra clear images and higher resolutions on your high-definition or HD-ready television.
The DMR-E95HS can play back DVD-Video, DVD-Audio (2-channel), DVD-RAM, DVD-R (recorded on Panasonic units), Video CD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and JPEG/TIFF discs, and can record to DVD-RAM and DVD-R media. It features selectable recording modes including XP, SP, LP, EP, and FR, and you can get 284 hours maximum recording time in EP mode. There is also the option for bilingual recording (to DVD-RAM only). The player has a playlist playback function, and also features aspect ratio control, dialog enhancer, frame advance and reverse frame step, slow motion playback, and a cinema mode for more cinema-like colors and improved resolution and contrast. Other features include two-channel Dolby Digital audio recording, and Advanced Surround (simulated surround sound from two speakers).
Recording to hard disk is easy with a multitude of special features, including a Time Slip Roller, simultaneous record and play, and a direct navigator. The Time Slip Roller (or Time Slip Button on the remote control) allows you to press just one button during recording to start playing back the scene recorded 30 seconds earlier, and you can search for scenes in units of one minute within the recorded section while you're watching the scene on a small onscreen window. Simultaneous record and play lets you record an episode of one program while you're watching another episode at the same. The direct navigator displays the list of programs recorded to disk so you can quickly see what's available, erase recorded programs, or select programs to watch.
A bevy of inputs and outputs lets you connect the DMR-E95HS to nearly any external home entertainment device you can think of. It sports three composite video, three S-video, and one RF input, along with one switchable component video, two S-video, and two composite video outputs. Audio outputs include two L/R outputs plus an optical digital out for DTS and Dolby Digital output. It also features a FireWire input for connecting to a compatible digital video camera (via an IEEE 1394 cable) for playback on your television, and also gives you the convenience of transferring your home movies to DVD media. A special PC Card slot is included for viewing of digital photos, and is compatible with most formats including PC Card, Memory Card, CompactFlash Card, MultiMediaCard, Smart Media Card, and Memory Stick.
What's in the Box
DVD video recorder with built-in hard disk drive, universal remote control, DVD-RAM disc, RCA cables, user's manual, and warranty information.

The Pansonic POS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-04-26
This thing sucks. there is little else to say other than there is a class action lawsuit somewhere here. PANASONIC this is FRAUD!!!!! Or outright robbery. No support. Does NOT work. I say anyone who has had success with this unit is probably lying or a plant from panasonic. Errors all the time and never loads the TV Guide BS. Just a giant waste of money!!! If there were an option for no stars I would have used that. Amazon should not even be selling this. It is not fair to loyal customers.
Can't believe it!.......2007-03-12
If the description here is correct, this set is completely crippled compared to other Panazonic models. It is said it will only read DVD -R written on other Panasonic recorders (!!!) and that it can only write to and read DVD -R. Panasonic used to make recorders limited to writing DVD -R, but since then has produced sets that can write to DVD -R DVD + R and DVD -RW. Why the jump backwards? I've never heard of any model that can only read DVD -R produced by recorders only of the same brand. This is absurd!
The price listed is also about double wha it should be.
Add all this to the other complaints and it's avoid at all costs.
I incidentally own a Panasonic with a 80 GB hard disk and have recorded many hundreds of hours to the HD and made hundreds of DVDs without a problem.
Anyway, I wouldn't buy ANY DVD recorder now unless it has an ATSC tuner included. Otherwise it becomes obsolete in two years when analogue TV is supposed to disappear.
Manufacturers, including Panasonic, are making sets with the digital tuners for the European market. Why not in the USA?
Repeated problems with DMR-E95H.......2006-11-24
I love the concept of this product but the Panasonic implemetation is WEAK! I originally purchased a DMR-E80 and it worked very well long enough to get past the one year warrenty then failed. I was told that the logic card needed to be replaced for $300 parts plus labor. A little shopping around on the net abnd I found the DME-E95H (twice the disk space) could be had for $360 from Beach Camera.
The E95 didn't make it out of warrenty before failing. The unit was mailed to a service center and it was repaired. I have had the unit for about two months since the repair and it has started to exhibit the same symptoms as before.
Symptom: at power-up the unit displays "Please Wait" for about 15 seconds and then displays "self Check" for about 30 seconds. The unit then appears to function normally for about 60 seconds and then fails to respond to commands from the remote. Shortly afterwards the unit shuts itself off (displayes "bye"). The disk or cable output from the unit continues for a short period (even though the unit appears to be shutdown) and then stops.
Fortunately, Panasonic offered me an extended warrenty (what were they thinking?) that I took advantage of. I will continue to return this unit to the panasonic service center as my way of extracting revenge.
I strongly recommend that you avoid Panasonic DVR products. My experience with two models has been extremely disappointing.
Great unit, but VERY unreliable........2006-08-18
I have owned this model since March 2005. Almost all of the time the TV Guide hasn't worked (I have heard this might be a ploy by my cable company to push people to their DVDRs). At any rate I gave up on this feature.
For the first year the unit had a tendency to go to "SELF TEST" whenever I changed disks, either DVD-R or DVD-RAM. After "SELF TEST" it almost always burned a good disk. This would have been OK excepte for wasting 15-30 minutes every time this happened. I stuck to major brand disks. Panasonic will tell you to use their disks but they are not easy to find in stores and don't come in large muffins so they tend to be expensive.
Surprisingly, at the 1-year point the unit started working perfectly. I went from March 2006 to August without a "SELF TEST". Today it refused to recognise the same disks it had been burning for weeks. So I will have to take it in on the extended warranty.
Panasonic customer service is terrible. Don't waste your time phoning. You will be on hold forever. About a year ago I wrote Panasonic and received a call eventually (still in the warranty period). They won't acknowledge that there is a systematic problem with this unit. They try to blame it on the disks. They also would not make any adjustment other than offer to sell me another unit at a discount.
I like most things about the user interface. It allows very precise editing. When it works it produces great disks. The hard disk holds a lot.
Forget about the lousy TV Guide feature!
Works great.......2006-04-03
It is terrifying reading the reviews on here, but there are no problems with mine (other than the TV guide silliness).
Record shows to the HD, then you can edit out commercials etc and burn to DVD-R, which you can finalize to play on other DVD players. We have had ours for 9 months. We have filled the hard drive a few times (left it recording by mistake), divided and shortened scores of recordings, burned about 10 DVD-Rs, taken power hits, no problems.
The U99 bugs seems to be fixed and there are websites out there to help fix you box if you need to.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Quality - all I use.......2007-11-26
Since day one, I have used Memorex DVD blank media for my recording needs, as I get VERY few errors. They are a high quality disc for a low price.
My only complaint is that they constantly change the look of the top of the disc, and the most recent redesign removed the lines to write on, and replaced them with a bunch of squares in a polka dot arrangement, making it difficult to write a straight line.
Great Discs!.......2007-11-26
I've burned through hundreds of these discs without a problem. I've had probably 3 or so failed burns, all at 16x burn speed. Only other discs I've used so far that have been as reliable were Sony discs which were only 4x when I used to purchase them and more expensive.
Memorex DVD+R.......2007-10-17
As anybody who knows anything about Memorex, knows that this is a very reliable company who stands by it's product. I have never had a coaster when I use Memorex and I will continue to use them as long as they keep making quality media. I'm just waiting for them to come out with their own HD DVD's or Blue-Ray media. I'm sure they have them, but I haven't looked because I don't have a burner yet. I hope the industry makes a decision as to who will win the war, but in the meantime I'll stay with DVD+R.
great product.......2007-09-09
great deal in which I bought two 100 pack. I received the spindle with the top and bottom broken and looks like about 5 missing..not such a big deal though.
Nice buy.......2007-08-14
I buy this 100 package DVD+R Memorex item with a amazing results. I write at this moment 25 DVD's and not lost any disk, all will be writen succesfully. I recomend this product. !! Real 16X speed in my Samsung DVD RW/DL Writer.
Product Description
The double-layer DVD+R medium is the newest technology breakthrough in optical discs. The advanced, single-sided disc has an amazing 8.5GB of storage capacity, enough for up to four hours of DVD-quality video, 16 hours of VHS-quality video, or over 120 hours of MP3 audio. It is compatible with all current DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives as well as new DVD+R DL drives, the disc is ideal for virtually any business or household application.New technology allows material to be either read or recorded on one layer without affecting material on the other layer. An important advantage of the double-layer configuration is convenience. It allows users to read, write, or view nearly twice the amount of data than with the currently popular single-layer 4.7GB DVD discs without having to flip sides or change discs.

Pure garbage for me.............2007-12-18
The worst, all-coasters, batch of junk I have ever tried to use....three machines burned them and all with tons of read errors. Good luck to you if you buy these....
No problems........2007-11-24
I have gone through 2 of these packages and only had a couple of errors, and it is very likely its because I bumped the case a little bit during the burn. I have only used them for playing in a pc so cant really comment about playabillity on standard dvd players, but i would guess that any player that couldent play these dvd+rs couldent play any dvd+r's. These are the best price I've found for DL's if you need them.
Good.......2007-11-07
So far these are good, I've burned 15 disc's using the cheapest NEC burner ($28) without errors, PC is equipped with Thermaltake power supply 500W and according to other reviewers that perhaps week power supply is responsible for coasters.
Works Flawlessy for me.......2007-10-20
They work flawlessly for me. Using Nero Ultra 7, a fast computer (with fast disk I/O, dual core, and 2Gb Ram), Samsung Lightscribe DVD Burner.
Works great with a low price tag........2007-10-03
Excellent performance and value for the price. I was hesitant at first but worries disappeared after the first 10 burns.

Sony mini-Cd's 8cm 200 MB.......2007-12-25
Satisfied with the price I paid and the time frame delivered. (BUT) product was NOT NEW. Only 49 discs were in the package. Four of the discs separated throughout the spindle were cracked and one was scratched up all over the disc. These were located throught the middle of the spindle. None of them were next to each other.
I therefore received a total of 44 usable discs.
PERFECT FOR THE MAVICA CAMERA.......2007-11-12
I couldn't find disks for my Sony Mavica anywhere in the large city I live in. Amazon came to the rescue. The disks work perfectly in the camera!
Never can have too many.......2007-09-10
I use these for shooting car shows and you can never have to many. The only thing that is weird is the camera does not recognize that these are Mavica discs but it does not change how they work it just give yous a message that you should use a Mavica disc.
No problems.......2007-08-07
Worked in my Sony camera as they should, when Memorex wouldn't. Far less expensive than buying retail.
very satified!.......2007-06-12
This product was a great choice. Buying the fifty pack at the low cost will save me money and time. Plus Sony is a great product and my pictures look awesome. I will definately re-order this product in the future.

Customer Reviews:
Affordable and reliable........2007-05-30
For the price and performance, Verbatim products can seldom be beaten. Do not let the price tag fool you: there are DVD-Rs for sale at 15-20 cents each (these are 50 cents), but fail to deliver whereas these are flawless. 25 burns and 25 successes, all at 16x as advertised. I've ordered another couple of hundreds. Great performance! Highly recommended.
Verbatim DVD-R.......2007-05-07
This was my first experience with -R discs. Product produced no coasters for the whole 25 discs in the first spindle. My DVD burner did not want to burn them at anything above 4X, but I never go above 8X on Lightscribe discs anyway.
First Class Blanks.......2007-03-28
I use only class 1 blanks for archiving photos. Using the DVD Identifier software, these are the best disks. Many manufacturers make good disks but then get subcontractors to make runs for price competitive disks with their name. These disks are both price competitive and Class 1.
Perfection.......2007-03-15
So far I've only been using it to record movies off the television and it's worked perfectly. I even recorded a pay per view and the quality was great. No coasters here! I'd reccomend these to anyone and I'll be back for more when I finish what I purchased.
No frisbees yet.......2007-01-10
These DvD's are working great in our new Samsung DVD-R player.
We have made about 10 copies and I will be ordering another round soon.

Customer Reviews:
Which ones will you receive?.......2007-12-09
I have used about 3 of these so far. The work really good. Never a bad burn, but the surface is where the problem is. You might get the Nice glossy finish or you might end up with the horrible matte finish. The matte finish when printed is not any where as nice as the glossy. I went to CompUSA and had them open a few and they were all different. The all have the same label and UPC. I have found out that Memorex buys disc's from a few different manufactures and repackages them.
So - it a fifty/fifty chance you might end up with the nice GLOSS FINISH.
Just a few coasters.......2007-10-18
I needed some printable DVDs to give out to several classes that I do. My Epson Stylus Photo R260 prints on them just fine though I haven't tried pictures. I've gone through about 75 of the 100 stack and had, maybe, 2 or 3 rejects from my Toast 8 program. The center hole has printable area close to it so you can more printing.
A worthwhile purchase. No problems.
John
Memorex printable DVDs are great!.......2007-09-18
Coupled with an Epson RX480 printer, I've printed at least 100 DVDs and have had no issues. It's simple and the artwork looks professional for sure! Highly recommend!
400+ And Going Strong.......2007-06-18
I have burned and printed 400+ of these discs in the last twelve months and have had exactly one fail. That particular disc was returned by the customer and replaced with the same type of Memorex disc with no further problems. About half of these discs were burned on an older 4x Pioneer drive and the rest on a new 16x LaCie. I would recommend these DVD's to anyone considering purchasing them.
50% Write Errors.......2007-05-13
I bought a 100 Pack and about half went in the trash I will never buy these again. If you want a good quality burn EVERY TIME try these TDK Electronics 4.7GB/16x DVD-R (100-Pack Spindle)

Customer Reviews:
all right by me !!! .......2007-12-09
Memorex makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to 16x. The video I record onto these lasts forever. I have used these as discs to record video both with and without audio.
The DVD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your record video onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD-Rs that have information stored on them. Don't store these discs, used or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose your recorded video over time.
There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the video onto the blank disc using computer software, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than 16x. This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your DVD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the DVD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its' jewel case using a post-it note.
Overall, Memorex blank DVD-R discs store video reliably over the years and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at 16x.
Use `em in good health!
MEMOREX CONSISTENTLY PRODUCES DEFECTIVE MEDIA.......2007-12-05
For various purposes, I go through a great deal of CD and DVD recordable media. From time to time, I have had occasion to purchase Memorex media of various description, usually when others have purchased media on my behalf.
EVERY BATCH of Memorex recordable media I have purchased over the past decade or so is virtually guaranteed to produce AT LEAST 3% coasters, OFTEN A GREAT DEAL MORE. Aside from the coaster production, often data errors will render whole segments of music CDs or movie DVDs unusable once they are burned.
I have seen a few reviews by others that have encountered similar results and NO, my comrades in Memorex dissatisfaction, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
To anyone who enjoys having to re-burn data to disc due to media failure, Memorex is for you! For all others with greater sanity, I would recommend avoiding ALL Memorex media.
Much as Memorex made their mark in the 1970s by having slick advertising rather than quality product, they do much the same today.
Just today, thinking that I would once again try Memorex DVD-R media ONE MORE TIME (thinking that somehow they had suddenly improved their standards), I immediately got a coaster from the FIRST DISC OUT OF THE SPINDLE.
Better than Memorex is TDK, Verbatim, Sony, and many store-branded media (especially Fry's Electronics "GQ" brand). Failure rates that I have experienced with these brands have been as low as 0%. My experience with Memorex media has yielded an average failure rate of 3% (3 out of 100 on a spindle, of course) to 5% (5 out of a spindle of 100). To me, this is an unacceptable failure rate.
My previous attempts to return a few defective burned discs to retailers have been laughed at, and I believe that is what second-tier manufacturers like Memorex count on. AVOID THEM!!!!
PERFECT!.......2007-11-25
Just finished off the last of my memorex's and plan to buy more. Bought 3 50-pack spindles, ZERO coasters, all burned at 16X speed. Will buy many more, plus a great deal for the price!
Haphazard results when archiving movies.......2007-09-05
I've owned the RCA DRC 8030 DVD recorder since June, and I'd have to say that roughly one third of all DVDs burned showed pixelation artifacts on playback. Sometimes the pixelation was minor, sometimes there would be large green horizontal streaks on the frame and actual simultaneous audio buzzing, but regardless, what I ended up with was a coaster in one-third of my recording attempts. The movie played right off the DVD recorder hard disk is perfectly clear, so that is not the problem. The problem seemed to be independent of film/program length or recording speed. Switching to DVD+R's has eliminated the problem completely, so I can only assume that the DVD-R was the source. I would therefore not recommend this product for archiving movies, at least for my particular brand of DVD recorder.
Bad product or bad lot ???.......2007-07-03
I never feel like I need to put the review. I may got a bad lot of this product. I tried a few disc to back up my data by Nero program and Philip drive, dell computer E1405. It failed more than half. At first I think that my drive is bad or my computer have something wrong, so I formatted and reinstalled all programs and then tried it again. It failed again. I think about buying a new dvd writer. I never think that the disc is bad, but when I write my data on Verbatim after I failed with Memorex. Verbatim worked great!!! It saved my money before I buy a new dvd writer. I cannot explain what happenned. If Memorex staff read this, please let me know. 1 star for wasting my time and I don't know what to do with 45 memorex disc ???

Memorex DVD+R.......2007-12-23
Product works fine, no flaws or re-writes due to errors. The CD face is lined with dots, would rather it be plain or just have the manufactures name. This would allow marking the contents easier.
crapola.......2007-07-15
Had the 8x speed before and they were great. These on the other hand totally sucked .Am only getting 2-3 good out of every 5 disks. Will never buy from Memorex again.
It's not the discs - It's your PC........2007-06-17
I have these discs and couldn't burn a good one to save my life. That was when I was using a PC. I recently switched to a Mac and presto - I haven't had a single problem since. I feel that PC's are too prone to programs causing problems and conflicting with other programs, etc. I would get a write failure if my screensaver kicked in while burning. Seriously - check out your PC before you blame the discs. Better yet....buy a Mac.
