Doesn't Work.......2007-11-17
I only used it once or twice to clean disks before it shorted out and broke. Too bad I used the device so infrequently that it was passed any hope of RMA by the time I found out it won't power on.
What a rip-off..........2007-10-22
I was so disappointed in this gadget. We had a lot of DVD's that had gotten pretty hard use from our two toddlers. The kit did buff out some of the scratches, and cleaned the discs, but did not buff out all. (It didn't buff out teeth marks, either, but maybe that's expectign too much?) Anyway, it failed the ultimate test - movies that were problematic before still skip and/or stall. The repair discs are basically ultra-fine grit sand paper, and only lasted about 3 discs before getting completely stripped. I think the movies I used a fresh disc on did come out improved, but by the time you buy the gadget and the accessories, you might as well just buy a new $10 movie....Don't waste your money!

I love playing my Xbox 360, but the model I have likes to make these light circular scratches in my game discs, making it so you can't load certain portions of a game. (By the way, the "standard" response to this is that the scratches come from moving the 360 console while the disc is spinning--I have NEVER once done this--my unit has been in a permanent and stable horizontal position and yet several of my games have received these scratches--my unit is out of warranty though).
When my beloved Bioshock game got scratched and refused to load a specific level, I finally couldn't take it any more. I ordered this product out of desperation to try and get the disc working. I put the game through just one 3 minute repair cycle and popped it back into the 360 to test. To my absolute joy, it loaded up perfectly!!! I do not see the scratches on the disc, they appear to have been perfectly filled by a couple drops of the repair solution and the buffing process. I am so happy to have this thing, it basically means I don't have to buy a new 360 or replace super-expensive games!
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the instruction manual is mediocre and irritated me a couple times. But this is a very minor complaint--the unit did what I prayed it would even easier than I thought possible. So happy!

Briefly....this thing works great! I have had mine for 3 years now and it has cleaned and repaired hundreds of discs.The real test was repairing the Playstation games my Grandkids brought over...they were scratched terribly! Some took 2 or 3 cycles, but ALL were brought to working condition.
Tip: If you have a real bad disc, use the little wheel that you can do by hand to polish first, then use the machine.

this is a kind of cheesy little kit for buffing and polishing scratched and crazed DVD surfaces. Far from a heavy duty unit, but it gets the job done. Library copies that have been badly mishandled clean up real well and then play without a problem.

Sometimes the DVD's arrive scratched and either doesn't play or skips during the movie. Being sending it back to Netflix and waiting for them to send a replacement takes days I pop the disc in my Alera DVD Disc Repair Plus for 2 minutes with these discs and then with the yellow pads with the white goop and out comes a playable disc.
I used these discs on a couple data CD's that got scratched up and it repaired them so I could continue to use them without paying for replacements.

Yes, it says "Repair Plus" all over the packaging, so I can't complain that it's false advertising - not exactly - but the bottle in the box (you can see the white bottle in the bubble packaging) is CLEANER FLUID, not repair fluid, despite the product's name. Confusing, since no Repair Fluid was included in here whatsoever.
Amazon is using the wrong product picture.......2007-03-16
I have told Amazon a number of times that the product picture they are using is the wrong picture (green and white discs); it is a picture of the REPAIR kit. This item is the CLEANING kit not the REPAIR kit. This product line has a CLEANING kit, a REPAIR kit and a BUFFING kit. If you buy this item only from looking at the product picture like I did, then you will not be pleased when the package arrives. Amazon has a habit of ignoring customers' suggestions to improve its site and it's things like this that makes customers angry. I bought this item in December 2006 and at that time told them on the phone that they used the wrong product picture and therefore I did not receive the item I thought I was buying (yeah, I'm stupid). I told them 2 more times since December that this is the wrong product picture but they ignore my emails and phone calls. Their loss. I bought the right product at another web site that was using the correct picture and also had it cheaper than Amazon.
Amazon catalog guys, feel free to remove this review when you fix the problem. Otherwise, buyer beware.

A must for low-medium volume disc maint........2006-01-01
As for cleaning one or two discs I prefer the manual method,
because you have to nearly fill the resovoir in one disc before
each use. And whatever remains will evaporate, sometimes
within the same day, cap-on or off, doesn't matter. However it
does work just as well and is much more convenient for batch
jobs.
The repair discs also work quite well, most of the time. After
a while though, as the previous post stated, they start leaving
residue on the discs. When this happens I wash them with dish
soap and water. Then I dry them as much as possible with a
cloth or paper towel. They still tend to take a long time to
dry though. But afterwards, they work like new again. My
advice would be to keep track of the number of uses before
this starts to happen so you can optimize the number of uses
between washings while trying not to let them get that bad.
Add to that, it might be best to have 3-4 pairs of good discs
at a given time (per machine if you use more than one
continuously), so that you can continue repairs while those
recently washed are still drying :).
Disclamer: Your mileage may vary after each washing, I have only
done this once so far and have a low repair rate.
As for buffing, only good for damage upto 3-4 times as bad as can
be repaired with the standard repair kit. For the worst discs,
consider the value of the recording versus the cost of material
(the buffing pads wear down, I typically get around 80
cycles/pair) and labor. The very worst I've repaired took
15-20 minutes of superbuffing, then a few standard buffing
cycles.
Also, when deciding whether to repair or get rid of it, consider:
It is repairable if all of the following are true:
1) The label side isn't damaged;
2) The plastic layer is even (not warped)
3) There is no separation of layers
4) It's not cracked or broken
For Library Use?.......2005-12-28
This is a follow-up of the review I posted after a short trial of this item. On balance, I would grade it C+, but with more qualification.
The Fletcher Free in Burlington, VT, is a public library of 100,000+ volumes, including about 2,000 CDs and 1,000 DVDs. We have no trouble at all with CDs but frequent reports that DVDs "skip," "freeze," "don't play," or are "damaged." The problem is patron abuse: even a week or two after acquisition, DVDs (and why not CDs?) come back looking as if they were road tested under 16-wheelers. As a trial, I scuffed two CDs (freebies-in-the-mail - pace AOL!) by foot on my carpet, then again on my kitchen linoleum or bathroom tiles. Neither was half as badly scratched as some of our DVDs.
This *Disc Repair Plus* has three functions: Clean, Buff, and Repair, each with its own set of two wheels, which must be changed when changing the function.
It Cleans no better but much more conveniently than the manual, spray-and-crank variety. One wheel is a reservoir for isopropyl alcohol, kept capped when not in use. Quite a good design, all-round.
Buffing should be done after cleaning, presumably to avoid scratches from adhering dirt. It seems to heal very minor scratches, but not the ones that cause malfunction, so buffing seems to be only cosmetic: it shines the disc better than new. It also leaves lots of whirly marks, but they don't affect play.
Repairing uses three drops of aluminum oxide paste on one wheel and removes most scratches, but, again, not the most serious ones. After a second Repair cycle, however, a bad disc looks much more workable; one that I tried worked perfectly, despite that a couple of serious scratches were still visible.
After 8 - 10 Repair cycles, though, the wheels become damp and leave residue on the discs - a lot of it. The Clean cycle doesn't remove it, but you can breathe on a disc and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth, such as what opticians give out and surplus houses sell cheaply. Better, wash the disc under a faucet, blot it with tissue, and then buff it with the cloth.
Spare wheels come with the item, but you might see, this isn't an automated, industrial-strength, even half-perfect process, despite its pretensions. It's good for occasional use, as at home, not for institutional use.
For efficiency, to avoid spending half your time changing wheels, it's best to do several discs at a time. I've just Cleaned, Buffed, and double-Repaired 20 in four hours, including the washing. (Volunteer labor - who pays an employee to sit, fiddling with a rinky-dink plastic gadget like this for half a day?) I think that at least half will be okay, but final judgment awaits patron input, or lack of it, after the discs are back in circulation. ...Fred G Hill, 12/27/05

I purchased this item because of many positive reviews about it. If it works for others, great, but it didn't even work on some of my slightly scratched disc's & it's a pain to use. I would of sent it back, but I forgot about it & it went past 30 days. What a waste of money!! I suggest going to a local used CD/DVD store & get your items resurfaced their (if you have one). It's allot cheaper than this junker.

I purchased this based on many positive recommendations. It worked fairly well, repairing several DVDs that had light scratches and scuff marks. However, I found that moderately deep scratches cannot be repaired with this device. Also, the buffing heads tend to leave circular marks all over the disk, which the polishing heads can't completely remove.
The reason I only give it 2 stars is that it stopped working after less than a year!
