Just a bit pricey. Ended up spending about $500 on cables for my HT system. There has to be a better way to get good cables.

I ordered two of these recently and would dearly love to return them. One of them does not function properly and cuts out every 20 - 30 seconds, and the build quality is very poor. They don't snap into place like the toslink QED cables I have.

This THX cable was sold as a brand new item...it came in a zip lock plastic bag and it did not work. I asked the merchant to send me a new one right away and pay for the shipping this one back and they refused...
This is not a reliable merchant and they sell stock "B" products or most likely cheap imitations made in third world countries...I will not buy from them again...

I bought a surround system that actually came with an OPTIC CABLE which is almost unheard of today. I never really believed in better cable = better sound, i always thought they were all the same but believe me... THE MONSTER ones had a noticeable difference, its much clearer, crisper than the ones that came with my system. For this price this cable can't be beat. I rather use another couple bucks to get a quality cable over radioshacks or any other generic cable

This is a good product with a price much less than in an electronics store. I would recommend a 6 ft length for most set ups. I found the connections would loose contact if any strain was put on the cable. Otherwise the quality of the sound is great,

Defies the laws of physics?.......2005-07-29
Despite the carefully worded description of the physics of light transmission, I found the TOS to TOS ILS200-1M made a significant difference in the sound quality compared with that of the OEM cable supplied by SONY. While the explanation of the physics is correct, the writer doesn't allow for variances due to execution. For example, very minor impurities in the materials that make up the body of the signal distribution unit can cause enough back flash to degrade/contaminate the signal even at the speed of light before it arrives at its destination. The wavelength of light and the frequency of this noise are not related. Granted, in most consumer quality FO cables, this is a very minor component of the delivered signal; does that justify spending $40-60 more for a HQ cable? That's a matter of personal preference and the capability of your biological sensors. In my case I think it was worth it as a luxury.
why pay so much?.......2001-05-02
Here's a little lesson in understanding optical digital cables from "The complete guide to high end audio" (p. 244-5) "Toslink is the low-cost optical interface promoted by mass-market audio manufacturers as an alternative to coaxial connection...the major electronics companies had two good reasons for trying to convert the world to toslink. First, toslink jacks and cables are cheaper than coaxial jacks and cables. Second, toslink conncetion makes it easier for the compoonents to meet FCC requirements for radiated noise. An electrical signal traveling down copper (such as a coax connection) throws off RF (radio frequency) noise that could interfere with radio and television transmission. The FCC will simply ban products that don't meet its criteria for radiated noise. Because toslink sends the signal as light down a plastic fiber, it produces no radiated noise. toslink (opical) is by far the worst interface, both mechanically (the physical connection between cable and jack), electrically (it has the lowest bandwidth), and sonically. Toslink conncetion tends to blur the separation between individual instrument images, adds a layer of grunge over instrumental textures, softens the bass, and doesn't have the same sense of black silence between notes."
Now, the only reason why you would want to get these cables is because you know that factory provided toslink cable is low-quality that is prone to damage (bending and wearing out)and eventualy you will have to replace the cable. You may want these monster cables because they will last a while, and not because they sound better. I gave three stars because I think they are costly and I am not sure they'll actually last 4 times longer than regular cables.
100 to 200.......2000-01-28
I used the Lightspeed 100 for about a year. Today I got the lightspeed 200 and what a great improvement it has made. The DTS sound on my DVD has improved alot and that is just by my ear. I also added a HT700 clean power outlet to my whole system. My entertainment center is about 11 grand and all I can say is it is now better than ever. Thanks to Monster cable . all my hook ups are also monstercable.

Be careful, ladies and gentlemen, this is not...I repeat NOT a toslink to mini-toslink cable, as the picture would lead you to believe. The ILS1002M cable is regular toslink on both ends. The description is correct, however, the picture is wrong.
High Performance at last.......2007-07-02
I guess An Electronics Fan never tried the GE (Jasco) Ultra Prograde Digital Optical Cable AV22684. This cheapest optical I could find cost me wasted time and money. The Monster Digital Interlink LightSpeed 100 Cable solved the problem. The Monster Cable transmitted several times greater intensity light than the limp, weak, cheap GE cable.

Yeah, I don't get this obsession with Monster brand cable either. When I got my 5.1 set-up, I thought the only way to get 5.1 sound was to use an optical wire anyway. Well, on my system it was, as it had no RCA jacks for all those discrete channels. All it has is one optical jack and one set of L/R RCA jacks for a stereo VCR source.
So all I did was go to Wal Mart or Radio Shack (can't remember which) and bought the only optical cable they had for like 20 bucks. Works just fine. My problem if anything is my receiver. But I think I'll be upgrading sometime later this year.

Alot of people say that Monster Cable is overrated. True, they are expensive. I use Monster Cable accessories because I know what kind of improvements to expect from them. Often times, the people here who have issues with Monster Cable, or any sort of a/v cable for that matter, often times do not have high performance a/v equipment. While I'm far from one of those theaterphiles who get paid to test new equipment in specific soundrooms, I do know enough to be able to distinguish what I (emphasis on I) sounds/looks better for my specific needs. Bottom line, Monster cables are a step up from the cables you'll receive with your equipment and will be more distinguishable if you have the right components. I use these digital cables because I have surround sound speakers and a Samsung receiver. If you're someone who does not have or plan on using surround sound, then you probably don't want to shell out money for this digital cable.
Optical is the way to go.......2004-01-19
If you haven't spent a decent amount of money on your sound system, don't buy optical cable. I hear many people complain about how they can't tell the difference between RCA and optical, but when I see what they're using for a receiver and speakers, the problem is obvious. You're stereo system is only as good as its weakest link, and optical cable is intended for high-end stereo equipment. It's that simple. If you're balking at the price you're spending on optical cable, you probably haven't invested enough money into your stereo equipment for it to really make a difference.
That said, if you do decide to go optical, Monster is an easy choice. Although I'm sure they hike up the price a bit on name alone, they do make some of the best audio cable out there, optical or otherwise. I've noticed marked improvement in the sound quality from both my DVD and even MP3 player. If you want to take a chance with a less known brand for a cheaper price, good luck, but I'm willing to spend a little more for quality.

The world's most demanding banks, corporations, and data centers use the world's best fiber optic cable to send a 10 gigabit multimode signal several kilometers. That fiber costs 60 cents per foot. Why does Monster Cable charge $60 or more for to send a single-mode 128kbps signal a few feet?
I suggest a much cheaper option like the PTC 6ft Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable, which I've been using for weeks now with zero complaints. Save your money and spend it where it will really count: on quality headphones, speakers, or music.
Hear your laptop on your home theater spears for the first time..........2007-05-17
This cable provides a bridge between your fiber-optic toslink miniport on the back of your laptop to your fiber-optic cable input on your home theater amplifier. For years, my laptop sat mostly dormant because I didn't know how to connect the red-lighted round hole on the back on my laptop to a standard fiber optic cable. Now that I found this cable with a mini plug (or you could use the mini plug adaptor on a regular cable) which I can plug it right into my home theater system.
The quality of monster cable is well established, although many people would dispute the quality/price benefit, as the price is always higher than the quality. In this instance the point is hard to argue, as monster cable is one of the only quality manufacturers of a fiber-optic cable with a standard end and a mini plug end. I say quality manufacturers, since, with all due respect, I have never heard the name of the other manufacturers on this site that make these cables.
I can testify, however, that this cord does a good job trasmitting the sound from my aged laptop, and I was impressed listening to compressed, low sampling rate mp3's on my home theater system. They sounded quite good, actually. I am looking forward to listening to "lossless" quality recordings in the future.
I can imagine people with DVI out and mini toslink out could consider turning their laptops (any laptop, not just Apple!) into mini digital home entertainment centers when combined with a plasma HDTV and a home theater. In my own case, my laptop is so old it only has VGA out, but I am waiting for cables to be shipped that they make to connect dinosaurs like mine to the component video inputs. Regardless, and even without the video, this is certainly a neat solution when you find a new use for a product you already have and don't use often enough.
