Simple and Easy - Just what you need........2007-07-17

I saw a few other adapters out there when I was looking, but some were part of a "travel kit" with lots of extra adapters you don't need, and some were just plain more expensive. Almost went with a Radio Shack airline adapter, but went to three different locations only to find that they didn't carry them in the stores anymore. Thankfully I found this one, which is perfect - inexpensive, simple and understated. It was so much nicer being able to use my own headphones for the in-flight entertainment, it really made a difference.

This thing works fine for me. Now I can listen to the movies on the plane without using the cheap airplane earphones. I like the size. It fits anywhere. Extremely portable.

I just flew Contintenal from NJ to SF and this was great! I used my noise canceling headphones and was very pleased not to have to use the ear hurting airline torture devices! Fabulous!

Does what it says.......2007-12-01

I've used the adapter on two transatlantic flights and it works just like it's supposed to. I've been very pleased.

What planes does it work on?.......2007-10-11

I traveled on four modern, recently commissioned planes, including the Boeing 777, and none of them had outlets for the Apple Airline Power Adapter. I assume it would work well, if I could plug it in. For me, however, a waste of $50.

Don't Forget the Tip.......2007-10-05

The product does what it says. I would give it a higher rating if the design was better- you have to plug the cord into the tip and it is very easy to leave the tip in the outlet when you are unplugging it. I did it on the second trip and now it is useless because you cannot get a replacement tip.

Two faulty units.......2007-09-10

I would have given this unit a "1", but I believe this unit will work ok. However the two cables I received were faulty. Not a good start. They would work as long as I tweaked the wire at the base of the magnet portion. Otherwise it didn't work. I am trying a third one soon, wish me luck...

No good for car.......2007-08-28

I bought mine in a store, and it appears to have a 12V cigarette adapter. I get the product home and pull it out of the packaging and read the fine print. Only usable on some airlines. Will not work in cars.

Scanning the blogs, it seems that Apple isn't interested in providing a car adapter. They also don't seem to be interested in licensing the mag safe adapter so someone else can produce it.

I guess this is just my fault for buying into a closed proprietary platform.

I give it 2 stars cause airline adapters aren't very useful. And while it is not the product's fault, if you are looking for a car adapter, this is not for you!

Huge but works well.......2007-11-03

I bought this unit because I was going to be stuck on a plane for 8 hours and I needed an air adapter. Since this also came with the inverter I thought it was a good deal.

I contacted APC to find out if I could take just the air adapter with me, since my DVD player already had a DC plug. They were not able to tell me if it would work.

In the end it was all useless because the airplane had DC sockets under the seats.

So i took away a star for the bulkiness and the lack of knowledge of the manufacturer

Airline power converter.......2007-07-05

Does everything it is supposed to do. The converter box is a bit on the big side, but it's great to have the extra power on long flights. Warning: although the unit is rated at 150 watts, enough to power even 17" laptops, some airlines only provide 65 to 75 watts of power to their power plug. No problem for MP3 players, but power hungry laptops will not get recharged with this, but it will definitely prolong the use.

WORKS GREAT.......2007-06-07

I used it on my plane ride to europe, charged my laptop great as well as my iPod, and would have charged my cell is it had died too! The only downside (and this has to do more from the plane's end the this product) but I could not use the computer or iPod while it was charging, it seemed to take TOO much power, but just the fact on a 9 hour plane ride, I could chrge my laptop during lunch and get right back to work, I was very happy!!

Also works great in the car and in here, you can use the computer WHILE chargeing. We take long car rides, so this really helps (also when waiting to pick the kids p from school!!)

have not tried it on a boat, but I am sure it works great!

I love this charger, especially since it is not a laptop only, I can plug anything in it, that needs power! (well within reason of course, and within the product guidlines, but anything portable!)

This is AWESOME, it pairs in no time with anything, and is exactly the same size of my network walkman. I can use it outdoors with my sony wireless headphones, and they are perfect. This is of that kind of devices "plug and forget". The design is very simple and looks really cool, actually smaller than I though. This is a GREAT poduct.

A little wireless gem.......2007-07-24

I bought one of these last autumn in Japan (at about the same price as shown here on Amazon)to go with my (JP only) Sony NW-S706 4 gb player and a set of Sony BT21G bluetooth 'phones. This little gem works quite well with the NW-S and even better with my newer Euro-spec Sony NW-A808 8 gb flash player.

It's apparently compatible with anything that uses the Sony WM-PORT connector, which so far includes the NW-A flash-based units (not the older NW-A HD units)and the older NW-S series.

I get more than 15 meters range in an open environment at the high bitrate setting, 10 meters range indoors with a wireless LAN running in the same room, and more then 8 hours play time with the A808 (have not run the unit to depletion yet, so not sure of the ultimate life span). With the 808 it takes 3 hours to deplete a full charge by one of four notches on the batt meter.

I get about 7 1/2 hours total time with the NW-S706, but a lot less usable range, more like 3-5 meters and sometimes a bit less.

Of course this is much reduced from the wired 30-50 hours of battery life one can get from these players, but the BT xmtr does use a fair bit of power after all, and there's no other BT solution that comes close in this class.

Sound quality is quite good (not audiophile but better than any iPod units currently available) with these combinations. The only issue, which is likely a headphone related one, is that one must use a neutral EQ bass setting to prevent a volume normalization effect. Strong bass is not there with this type of 'phone, it's a more neutral and realistic bass level.

Now that the NW-S units and the new 21G phones can be found in the USA (at prices about 20% higher than in Japan) this is a great accessory for anyone who wants to go wire-free.

If there's one issue, it's that this thing is quite small- one needs to take care storing it where it can be found again (!)
