Terk HDTV Exceeded Expectations.......2007-12-23
I wasn't sure the amplified antenna would live up to its description but it is great. I am about 30 miles south of Seattle, WA and used to use simple rabbit ears for reception. I could pull in all the local channels, some clearer than others, but only two of the HDTV stations. With the Terk I am receiving all the local analog channels crystal clear as well as several analog channels I did not previously receive. I am also getting all the HD stations associated with the local channels. An excellent investment.
Great One For the Price!.......2007-12-13
There are certainly many camcorders in the market with way better quality/features. However, I give it 4/5 because it fulfils my expectations for the price I paid. I bought it also in the thanks giving sale from Bestbuy online for 157$ total. Comparing the price, no other camcorder is a match for it., even at the current amazon price.
It is very compact, has high zoom, excellent color, low noise with many other features yet to explore. Only flaw is it's night vision is not very good like Sony. Still gives fair quality. I give it 4 instead of 5 because I don't like the joy stick control very much, though not a very deal I would be more happy to have conventional buttons.
I see some folks are upset with the computer connectivity issue. I was very cautious with that and did a little research on it. Tape camcorders need an IEEE firewire port to transfer VDO in a computer equipped with firewire connection. As simple as that. If your computer doesn't have a IEEE connector then need to buy a card/wire; Amazon sells that within 20/30$ range. My Dell notebook has an IEEE link unexplored for the past 2.5 years. Now I connected the camcorder and all of my previous VDOs were transferred like magic! How easy it is! For the guys who'll return it and will buy PS-85 model, be careful, the same thing will happen. USB cable is only for transferring still pictures, NOT VDO.
I'm very happy with Panasonic. I purchased their FZ-27S that was another pot of gold. Panasonic produces quality products in low prices that have all or more features than their expensive competitors like Sony or Canon.

Hooray! Looks like I made a good purchase and actually worth me getting up at 4 am on Black Friday to freeze in a LONG line at Best Buy, lol. I am encouraged by the good reviews this camera is getting. And to top it off, I got the VERY LAST ONE...sigh, it was simply meant to be.
Can't connect to your computer........2007-11-25
I purchased this camera yesterday and will be returning it tomorrow. The PV-GS85 will connect by USB cable but the PV-GS80 will not. I failed to check what I thought would be an obvious minimum feature. Shouldn't a digital camcorder connect to the computer for file transfer. An A/V cable was the only connectivity.

i've learned through trial and error that panasonic makes some of the best phones on the market. these are no exception, especially for the price. they are crystal clear and have many of the features you will find on their more expensive models, such as speaker phone, call-waiting caller id, phone book, etc. i've never felt the need to use a head-set on a house phone, so the absence of that feature is no big deal. they are a bit smaller than some of panasonic's other phones, but in an "ipod sort-of-way" that makes them cooler.

This phone is everything I needed. It is crystal clear,has all the features I wanted, and is very reasonably priced for the value. The extra handset is a real plus because it only needs a.c. power for the charger and does not have to be installed where a phone jack is. Therefore, it can be placed anywhere you need another phone.
It works great as an intercom, and has a paging feature handset to handset. I was in the attic searching boxes and talking to my wife downstairs. Last week I also used it to talk to a TV repairman who was on the roof tuning my antenna while I watched the reception inside the house and was able to tell him when it was a perfect picture.
All in all, I am 99.9% satisfied. If I were improving it, I would probably add a earphone jack.However,the phone has an excellent handset speakerphone, which I use on almost every call, particularly on those long-wait automated answering devices. Callers can hear me perfectly (I ask them) and the speaker sound is great. (Unfortunately,They can also hear my wife even in the other recliner.)

I previously had a VTech expandable phone system. I loved the convenience of the features, but people used to tell me they couldn't hear me very clearly. It also went through batteries in no time. I finally broke down and bought this new phone system, and it's a vast improvement. I'm told the sound is much clearer. One feature I was looking for was a visible voicemail message indicator light, which this one has. (It's not the default setting, though. I had to go through a few steps to set it up.) I love the ability to copy my phonebook to the other handset at the touch of a button. My only complaint is that you can't add additional phonesets. It came with one expansion handset, but that's all it will take. I would have liked to have the option of adding more, but I guess I'll live. The signal range is quite good, and I'm very happy with this purchase. If this is your price range, you should be very satisfied with this phone system.

Lasted almost 2 years... I expected more.......2007-11-16
This unit worked great for almost 2 years. Now, I cannot record anything from the hard drive to the DVD. I get the same "RECOVER" message a lot of people are getting and the unit reboots. At this point, I can still record to the hard drive and watch programs at a later time. I'm wondering how long that will even last now. I wouldn't be surprised if a cheap unit broke so soon... but I paid a lot of money for this and expected much more.

I've had mine for about 4+ years and have loved it! The only problem I had was when I did a lot of editing and "gunked" it up. My only solution was to format the hard drive. I lost everything but now I know that I need to eventually save my recordings to DVD-R or DVD-RAM. After that, I'll do a format to keep things running smoothly. I use DVD-RAM disks to archive everything. If I want to share my recordings, I can transfer what's on DVD-RAM back onto the recorders hard drive and re-record onto a DVD-R.
Since few portable DVD players play DVD-RAM, I purchased Panasonic's LS-90 portable DVD player, which plays the DVD-RAM format. It works great and has a quality picture. Don't buy the less expensive LS-91. The quality is not comparable.
Get one of these and avoid cable/satellite TV!.......2007-04-17
I've owned this unit for about six months, and just yesterday I discovered that it is compatible not with just cable boxes, but also high definition TV tuners, like my DigitalStream box! The built-in TV Guide system will even sync through the HD Tuner! If you're like me and watch a few key shows on network TV, you can save that 50 bucks a month for cable, hook this recorder up to an HD tuner, and simply record your favorite tv shows when they're on to watch at your leisure!
I don't necessarily recommend this specific unit as this is a very old model, but I want to make clear that I love this unit's DVD recorder, its DVR capabilities, and most of all not having to pay monthly TiVo or cable bills!

I purchased this product the very month it became available and as of this review that is almost four years ago. I have treated it with kid gloves and it has repayed me by performing brilliantly. I have created well over a hundred DVD's, (probably closer to two hundred), and countless HDD recordings. Using the editing functions, the playlists, and other features is relatively easy and intuitive. If I were forced to find fault with this excellent product, it would only be that it takes a bit too long to power-up, and when dubbing from playlists the high speed dub feature can't be used. There are probably other Panasonic units available now which supersede this one, and they may well be as excellent, but I like this one just fine!
Only one reason..........2007-02-20
There is only one reason to own the Panasonic DMR-E80:
Creating and editing a playlist. If you have no interest
in that function, there are faster, better DVR's that will
burn a DVD in a fraction of the time.
I own two of these units. I have experienced problems
with not recording, or locking up (unplug the unit, then
plug it back in and hold your breath). I have replaced one
hard drive (easier than doing a PC), but never had a problem
with a disc drive. When I learned that later units made by
Panasonic did not allow you to edit your playlists, I
bought my second DMR-E80. NOTE: You can't dub your edited
playlist to HDD or DVD. You must use a second DVR to record
and burn the playlist to DVD.
These are not "workhorse" recorders. Mine don't like anything
other than 4.7 Gb silver DVD's (4x,8x, even 16x) and they ae
SLOOOW! Creating and editing a playlist takes some time to
master, but the DMR-E80 makes the effort well worth it to me.
That's why I have two of them.
