Dymo DiscPainter Rocks.......2007-12-26
I have it,I love it.All the other reviews have covered this
product very well. So,is it pricey at $279.00? Well, compared
to MicroBoard or Primera dedicated disc printer's($600+ to $1000.00+),
not so much. But if the price for this one trick pony is too much,
and you do not mind a tray, lineing up arrows and such. Get an Epson,
HP(or a Cannon for the folk's outside the USA),some Taiyo Yuden Water
shield disc's and Magic Mouse Discus labeling software(the version in
DiscPainter is dedicated to the printer),the full stand alone version
work's on all printer's.You will have disc's just as nice if not better.:)
Love IT !!!.......2007-12-24
I bought this printer for my school projects and my aspiring art career. It has been my best purchase yet. I am alble to put all my drawings and pictures on the disc for future clients or professors and i could put one of my drawings as a cover as an example of my talent and skill. This is a professional product and perfest for anyone. Its less than 300 bucks and a great product.
smartshopper.......2007-12-23
I have been using my new DiscPainter for close to a month now. It has been exciting creating beautiful CD/DVD covers without having to first digest a complex instruction manual. I found it exceptionally easy to navigate the software as there are no confusing configurations to work out as was the case with my old disc labeling software. Everything was spelled out in simple laymen's terms and was intuitively understandable.
I also liked the fact that everything functioned flawlessly on the DiscPainter. This is a well engineered and well constructed disc label printer. There are no gimmicky afterthought add-ons like feed trays or sticker seating devices. Just put a blank silver or white printable disc in the cradle and the DiscPainter does the rest (well almost, I still like to make the creative decisions). Within a minute, my disc is covered with a clear, color label that really adds to the disc's wow factor.
My work space is rather limited so I appreciate the DiscPainter's small size. It takes up slightly more space than two discs placed flat side by side forming the number "8". The higher back end is slightly more than the height of a disc placed on its edge. Smaller is better on a workspace where real estate is at a premium.
I truly enjoy using my DiscPainter. Dymo has taken a task that has always been fraught with frustration and disappointing results and turned it into an easy task replete with satisfaction. I give it an unreserved five stars.
A GREAT Printer.......2007-12-23
This is absolutely the greatest. I usually don't write reviews but this is too exciting not to comment on. I ordered this on Thursday, received it on Saturday. It took maybe 10 minutes to set up... very easy. No problems and created the first two cds in the next 10 minutes. Flawless, great quality, fast. Goodbye sticky labels.... thanks Dymo AND Amazon!
DiscPainter is a hit at our Household.......2007-12-20
My DiscPainter has quickly become one of the most popular electronic tools in my household. I use it to label discs that contain family photos of various themes. Photos of our summer vacation to Cape Cod were labeled with a group photo of everyone gathered around a beach camp fire. Photos of our ski trip were labeled with an image of the top of the mountain at Vail. Both were complete with dates and family members present. I sent copies if these to friends and relatives worldwide.
My son uses our DiscPainter to make labels for his backed-up music CDs. He goes online and downloads and prints original album cover art onto the discs he has burned. These back-ups are then used in his car where damage and scratches to CDs are a common experience. When a disc becomes too scratched or otherwise unusable, he simply tosses it out and burns/labels a new one from the original disc kept safely at home.
My daughter writes and videotapes short plays and skits with her friends. They then put them on a DVD and label them with the DiscPainter. They chose either a dramatic photo or a comedic photo and added very professional looking text to their disc labels. The result is a very commercial looking movie DVD that they share with their friends. She is now talking about becoming a movie producer or director in the future.
My husband has recorded many sporting and extra curricular events that the kids have participated in over the years and used the DiscPainter to create truly impressive looking labels for these discs. Although they are "just" school events, the DiscPainter makes these events look like the Super Bowl or Television shows. The DiscPainter has opened a fun new world of creativity for all of us!

Customer Reviews:
STOP! After several months the CD's do eject reliably, then your CD's are trapped inside!.......2007-10-31
We bought two of these for the office. They worked great for a few weeks, but then one of them stopped ejecting the CD's reliably. You'd have to tell it to eject about five or six times before the CD would finally come out. It got progressively worse and started requiring ten tries for an ejection. Finally it stopped ejecting no matter how many times you tried. Imagine this true story:
"Hey, can I get the Adobe training CD"
"No, sorry they're trapped in this broken library"
I called support. They gave me a brand new unit. It worked great for a few weeks, and then began having the exact same problem!! ARGH! THEN my SECOND unit started having the same issues. Frustrated, I called support again. It turns out that the problem is with the belts that run the mechanism(s). They stretch out over time, and then they begin slipping. When they slip, they are no longer able to grab the disk to push it through he 'gate'. Because I'm a technician of sorts, I convinced Imation them to send me a handful of replacement belts. That way, I could just replace the belts when the unit stopped working. You too can do this if you're handy, but it honestly takes the better part of an hour. After replacing ALL of the belts in BOTH of my units, it worked GREAT!! ...For about a month before it started having the exact same problem. I have given up!!
Today I finally finished moving all of my CD's to a Caftek ddo-50 (the same as the Dacal CD-300). I've been using that unit at home for several years and it's been great! Perfectly reliable! Tonight after work we are all going to have a ceremonial burning of our two Stakka units in the parking lot of our office. You're welcome to come and help, but you must bring your own matches. :-)
DO NOT BUY Disc eject errors started occuring after a few months of use and have to continously recalibrate the unit........2007-10-29
Purchased two of these units which were working as designed but after a few months one unit started having problems ejecting disks then recalibrated it and worked fine for a few days then had issues again and the cycle goes on and on between recalibration and eject errors, my second unit is now having the same issues and Imation support is useles thus they are going to the trash.
Unhappy with this unit.......2007-07-03
I purchased this item online and it arrived in a few days. I was planning to purchase 6 for my DVD library but after having problems with this one I
changed my mind.
The unit jammed everytime I attempted to eject a disc. I contacted tech support at Imation and after three calls the tech support folks told me to send it back to the dealer. I purchased it from Antonline and they wouldnt take it back. They said Imation would have to supply a replacement since it was under warranty. After another call to imation tech support I was given a replacement. I had to box up the defective unit, pay for shipping and wait for it to arrive a week later.
If you are looking to use this unit for anything other than a paperweight, You should not waste your money.
Nice Concept, poor design.......2007-06-07
I have ordered 3 of these, 2 arrived defective. The one that works is great! they apparently have a design flaw which prevents discs from being ejected. Returning/exchanging is a time consuming process. I'd look at alternative vendors.
Great Normally.......2007-05-20
I now own 3 of these, and they all act the same. 95% of the time they work as advertised and have absolutely no problems at all. That other 5% is when they just don't eject a disk and you need to try it a second time to get what you want out. I've even had it lose a disk, which takes a 20 minute maintenance cycle to figure out. I have also had very minor software issues (missing disk entry) which were easily figured out. But over all, these have performed quite well.
