I bought this 25-pack to back up my iTunes library.
Pro:
-Burned roughly 40 songs per minute... wow that's fast (in under 2 hours we burned all 8.65 days worth of our music)
-Read-write capable (at speeds up to 12x)
-13 discs held 2165 songs, and since this was a 25-pack, we still have 12 left
-No problems with writing, no chipped, scratched, cracked or otherwise defective discs
-Comes with a holder and a cover that twists and "locks"
-Case could hold what I estimate is another 8 discs or 33 total if you remove the foam spacer and clear CD-shaped protector
-Minimal packaging waste to deal with and easy to open, no act of congress to open
-Very good price and even better value
-"Sharpie" ink pen writes on surface ok
Con:
-Disc graphics are annoying, no significant clear space/area to write... surface covered with small "silver squares" that dot almost the entire surface
Neutral:
-Top is clear #5 plastic (base is black #5 plastic), good for seeing inside, bad for letting in UV light (hence the nuetral)
-Scratch resistance is unknown. We burned our discs and then packed them away.
Bottom line: Highly recommended. Have had no issues, discs appear to perform as expected.

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's. Sometimes as a person that has worked in electronic stores my thoughts are requested on recording equipment and electronics.
Sony CD-RW Media 4x 700MB 80min Spindle (25-Pack)
Sony has been ultra reliable for me as a recording medium for blank CDR's. I have used a substantial amount over the years for both data and pictures. These are not for those that like to use high speed for burning/recording.
The CD's have held up well and there have been very little that were defective right out of the package. While the quality control is a shade below the Fuji from Japan, in no way should Sony be considered a poor second choice.
For maximum shelf life the recorded CD's should be in jewel cases and not in paper sleeves. If you are into making your own labels make sure to use the better quality paper. The inferior thin labels not only will curl up before they are placed on the CD but the glue will actually get into the CD itself. Many defective CD's are not the fault of the manufacturer but the consumer not using best judgment.

Throw Away Your Precious Memories and Lose Money to Boot.......2007-05-08
Hey! Got a co-worker or acquaintance that you hate to death and want to do the perfect revenge against? Send him over a box of these puppies for him to store all of his most important data and images on. Then watch with fiendish glee as he opens the box and only 3 out of the 5 work, while the remaining disks cough up unrecoverable errors, erasing his work forever!
No, seriously-- these are the worst pieces of garbage anyone could ever buy. With my camera stuffed to the gills with pics and me needing storage fast, I grabbed a 5 pack at the local Office Depot and started formatting the cd-rws immediately. First disk? For some reason, couldn't be read after formatting. So, okay, I put that aside and tried a second disk. Took over 1 hour and 24 minutes and counting to complete formatting and would have continued indefinitely had I not forced a reboot.
Okay, disk #3... Successfully formatted, then added 163 pictures to it. Then wouldn't you know it... It immediately suffered an "unrecoverable" disk error and now I couldn't copy anything from that disk to another to save what was on it. (Luckily, Irfanview saved the day when I was able to use the batch conversion feature to move the images onto my hard drive. But if this had been data I would have been SOL.)
Disks 4 and 5? Won't even give them the time of day. Moral of the story? Avoid Maxell at all costs and go Sony or Maxell. Memorex is pure and utter worthless garbage!

simply terrible. out of 5 cd-rws, 2 of them didn't work right out of the box. then the other 3 cd-rws gradually failed. geez, i'm staying away from memorex.

I bought these on clearance (luckily for only $1!) and out of the 5 CDs, only 1 of them actually worked. (and it only worked for 2-3 rewrites).
I'm avoiding Memorex from now on; I've also had a bunch of their CD-Rs just disintegrate for no apparent reason.

Do Not buy this brand. I have used Philips CD-RWs, they work pretty fine numerous writes and erases later.
I bought these from J&R computers, I dont know How I will return these to them now, probably at my own expense. The question is not of money, I spent 3 full days in trying to figure out what's wrong.
I don't know how Amazon still displays this when somebody does a search. Nobody should sell this product.

If I could rate it a zero, I'd rate it a -10! Stay away from these! I've saved files on over 100 of these. Everything seems fine until I try to retreive something out of them or remove a file. Then good luck trying to open it back up. It'll say the disc is corrupt or cannot be read at all. And I've tried this on 3 computers. Same thing. Yes, you can imagine my fustration that only 5 discs had info. ARg!!! Please, stay away from these. You have better chance of saving your stuff hand writing it and taking months to file it than getting these to read anything!
And please check your discs immediately after writing. Don't wait till months to find out that your data isn't there.
If you have to get these, copy your data somewhere else and write. Don't cut them and lose them into the blackhole that is Memorex!
They are everywhere but just because they're everywhere and the cheapest out there, and have been around a fairly long time doesn't mean they work. Please Memorex, how can you call these Cd-RWs??? Wish I read all these reviews!
25 Frisbees!!!.......2005-08-25
At less than a dollar per frisbee, this is the best price I can find for frisbees. They don't fly very well and they break relatively easily, but this is the best value I can find for 25 frisbees in one place.
A lot of people are disappointed because they expect to be able to use these discs as rewritable CD media. The problem with that is, they don't work very well for that either. I, too, tested this for myself.
Using Nero Burning ROM, I tried many times to burn different kinds of data onto several of the discs -=AT 4X=-, just like you're supposed to. IT WORKED! It burned fine. Then it took 5 minutes to open a simple HTML document on the burned disc. Subsequent trials run with the "Verify Written Data" checkbox checked revealed that every other sector or so was unreadable after burning. It's like writing with a white crayon, except this is white paper. This persisted on several OTHER computers with different CD burner drives and even different software.
I finally realized what great frisbees these things are. Cheer up people: THEY ARE GREAT FUN! So grab your spindle, go outside, and start chucking these things at your neighbor's annoying dog. =D

Consistent and reliable.......2007-11-03
I have used this media for several years and have found it to be very consistent. Although I have not actually used cheaper competing brands, I have read user reviews that describe them a only useful for "frisbees" or "coasters" because of the inconsistency (failure to read the CD in another drive after recording, on and on, etc.) of the performance of the discs. I have never had one of these TDK CD-RW disks fail to work properly, and I have probably used them perhaps 50 times.
Finally, a 700 Mb CD-RW that works!.......2004-10-25
No problems in writing/reading/re-writing/re-reading 80 min audio CD-RWs, 700 Mb data or 700Mb mp3 discs. There are many good 650 Mb CD-RW, but that is currently not the case for 700 Mb CD-RW. I've tried other brands and have had problems (and lots of wasted time). These work everytime with my burners (which are different makes). I am very glad to find something reliable in this format.

Works after you get past a small setback.......2001-05-20
I've been having problems with formatting these CDs with Easy CD Creator 4 so that it can write and erase like a hard drive or floppy disk using any Windows program. They seem to want to be formatted twice in order for them to work, which can be really annoying since it takes an average of 40-60 minutes to format them.
If you don't format them you can still use the rewrite feature through Easy CD Creator, but you would have to use its record program rather then just being able to use the CDs like a floppy disk by clicking save as and choosing your CD recorder drive. The only time that I have successfully formatted a CD in one try was on the very first one. Although, to be fair I haven't finished the whole pack yet.
Other then the need to be formatted twice, I don't have any complaints about it. They work fine and haven't cause any other problems. It could be my CD recorder or the program Easy CD Creator 4 that is causing the problem. I'm going to have to buy another brand and see the difference.
