Update your advertising!.......2006-03-15
I ordered three 3=packs of the Maxell VHS HGX T-120, as pictured even now, and got three 3-packs of a different Maxell VHS product.
Now that I've found out on my own that the original item is no longer produced as such, it would have been appropriate to inform me of that fact...I could have purchased them locally and saved a rather hefty $11.95 shipping & handling.
I was assured an "RA" for return, but have never seen it.
At this point I will keep the items...someone should update the pictorial advertising to avoid this minor confusion and disappointment. - M.
Among the best.......2001-07-17
Video tapes from Maxell's product line are among the best consumer grade VHS tapes available to the public and the preferred choice among video archivers. When used in conjunction with a high-end VCR, Maxell Gold provides an excellent picture, even when used in the extended play / super long play speed and is incredibly durable. I have never experienced color bleeding or noise problems, even after years of storage. This is an excellent tape for a reasonable price and one of the best choices for archiving your most precious memories.

All right by me--for something not digital, that is.......2007-07-30
Maxell manufactures excellent high grade six hour blank VHS tapes for better quality images than regular VHS tapes can pick up on, as well as all purpose general recording of audio-visual media. As long as you have the right kind of equipment, these tapes record television programs off TV or they can be used to make copies of a non-copyright protected VHS tape. These tapes have up to six hours worth of blank recording space; and this is useful when recording television shows, for example.
In addition, you can record onto these tapes using different speeds so that the tape records two hours worth recording time, four hours worth recording time and six hours worth of recording. (You use your VCR to set this.) The best image quality will be at two hours worth of recording time but many people say they're satisfied with the image they get using the six hour recording time speed.
The tapes allow you hours upon hours of viewing enjoyment because you record onto them over and over again countless times although after some use the picture quality will eventually begin to gradually deteriorate. This is true even though these tapes are advertised as "high grade."
Unfortunately, these high grade tapes still cannot produce the same quality recording reproduction as a digitalized copy would give you. This means that if, hypothetically, you were to copy a DVD-R onto another DVD-R instead of a Maxell blank VHS tape, the quality of the audio-visual media on the DVD-R copy would be sharper and clearer than a high grade Maxell tape or any other brand of video tape could give you. Moreover, VHS tapes can break if not handled with care. These shortcomings frustrate me and therefore I will have to take off one star to make this a four star review.
The tapes have small pieces of plastic on the narrow front edge of each VHS tape which you can punch out easily so that accidental recording over an existing recording is impossible. If you do wish to record over an original recording then you can merely place a small amount of regular tape over the hole. The VHS tape is now ready to record a fresh recording.
Overall, Maxell makes a great choice when you want reliable blank high grade VHS tapes to record television shows or anything else that you wish to record with a better quality image than standard blank VHS tapes can produce. I have used this brand for years and I cannot think of any major complaints. I highly recommend Maxell high grade six hour VHS tapes for you to use when you need to record something onto a VHS cassette tape.
Maxell HG should be called "How Great".......2007-07-03
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" as well as an avid music collector, and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write about and or discuss various recording tapes.
Maxell HG T-120 VHS Tape-
Maxell's stellar reputation for VHS and cassettes tapes have been a staple of the industry for decades.
The Maxell HG will give you terrific clarity and the ability to preserve the recording if you plan to use it only one time or be durable to erase after each viewing.
Please make sure the VHS heads are clean or the tape will not give you the optimum results regardless of the brand.
A quick note that even if the 8-hour VHS tape seems like a bargain, stay away from it. The standard of the industry is six because anything above means a thinner tape has to run through the machine and is absolutely more susceptible to breakage.
Enjoy the music and be well,

I Agree .......2007-01-28
The picture is wrong, this sale is for Maxell tapes and not Fuji! I have only two of these tapes and they are the best I ever have had. In my area only TDK high quality tapes (eg. VIVID and EHG) are sold. Ocassionaly, the Maxell tapes will be sold, but at the time I don't need any. Yes, these tapes are a little pricey (to me) only because I've bought an 8-pack of tapes for the same price. Now Amazon just needs to sell Maxell's T-200 HG tapes (purple case) and then I would buy from them.
Very Good Quality For Video Tapes!.......2005-08-12
Even though nowadays I am into using blank DVD media for recording any video content (whether from the television or the PC), I 'did' buy and use these for recording some programming to my DVD/VHS combo unit from the television.
For VHS tapes these 'do' seem to be suitable for "high-quality" recordings. My results were very clean-looking.
So, based on that, I give these 5 stars!

best standard grade vhs tape I've used.......2006-12-10
Was buying Sony tape at Walmart but my VCRs kept eating them (have four VCRs - two are Sony).
Purchased these Maxell and expected the same thing to happen but to my surprise they work perfectly.
Only record in SP mode since most movies are edited to fit into 2 hour time frame anyway, and the two series I record are one hour each. Extended recording results in lower picture quality, and the manuals for my VCRs state that as well.
Taped recording was excellent and nearly identical to TV broadcast quality.
Only purchase 120 minute tapes now. Other tapes I have used over the years include TDK, Fuji, Sony, and RCA.
These Maxell are better by far.
As a rule I don't "archive" anything either, but recording in SP you have the choice. If the show isn't a "keeper" I just rewind the tape and record over it.
Not sure how many rerecordings I'll get on these Maxell, but have gotten about a dozen on other tape.
I'm appalled.......2006-02-06
This tape is terrible, at least on extra-long play into a standard TV set. I would have given it two stars because I *have* seen worse--just not recently--but since there is no way I'm buying this product again I decided one star was fair. If I have to raid an hour here, an hour there from my old tapes that's preferable to peering at this.
I don't use SP speed, because I'm not archiving TV shows. All I ask is that I be able to watch my programs with enough quality that I can see what the characters are doing.
I just bought a replacement VCR and these tapes. The picture quality (on EP) was intolerably grainy, similar to non-HDTV through an antenna. So after testing recording and playback on several brands of tape of different ages I returned my new JVC VCR and bought a Sony instead. But the new one's recordings were still very grainy. Oh no! But I took a deep breath and ran the same tests. Turns out the problem is these Maxell tapes! The Sony records acceptably well on my *old* videotapes. The quality isn't as good as my old broken RCA, but it's tolerable. --So this leaves me with the question of whether there are any affordable videotapes sold these days that are watchable?
