First, the subwoofer.
I have one of the Sony STG amplifiers which I purchased recently from CCity. This sub seems custom made for that amp, as it works flawlessly. To those that say the bass is "tinny", you're not configuring right or your source is off. If your source doesn't have much bass you're not going to get much thump. Also, it's a subwoofer; it's not supposed to be "clear sound". It's just the bass. Your other 5-7 speakers should be giving you the clear sound you desire. In other words don't expect this to be your only speaker. That's not how it works.
The best way to use this is to turn the dials on the sub to the max, then adjust your amplifier's sub volume to a comfortable level. Mine is at halfway and I get sufficient thump (I'm in an upstairs unit so I can't put it too deep). If you have HD service, it's the best way to test your new sub. Now, it's important to note that this sub supports both line-level (RCA plug) and speaker-level (speaker wire) inputs, however the line-level really is the better choice.
Lastly, the auto-power option is pointless; I recommend just disabling it, and plugging your subwoofer's power cable into the back of your amplifier. If you want security, your amplifier should then be plugged into a UPS surge protector with battery backup; that should ensure sufficient power to both. Plus it will make sure your sub is only on when you actually need it. The auto-power option will just get annoying, because it turns the sub off when it doesn't detect a certain level of bass; well obviously most broadcasts don't have eternal bass,, so it will "click" on whenever the bass kicks in, and it's just a bother.
So why is my rating so low? The way Amazon shipped it. They used FedEx Overnight...well, FedEx is a VERY poor shipper. They don't follow the rules. FedEx is supposed to require signatures for 2-Day or Next Day Air shipments, for security reasons. This box (which was just a regular box indicating a very expensive piece of equipment was inside) was just left at my front door, no signature. I didn't even know it was there until I got home from work and saw it there. It could have been stolen and I couldn't prove otherwise since there was no signature requirement. This complex has a policy for overnight couriers where they leave it at the front office and one of the staff signs for the package, that way I know it got received by an authorized person. Didn't happen. This same deal happens every single time Amazon uses FedEx. It bothers me they that they choose to use them. I'd rather have a one day delay with UPS.

My previous subwoofer was an unpowered one that was part of a HTIAB package. For the price, this powered subwoofer is a great bargain, and provides decent bass for the medium-sized room where it is. My only complaint is with the power-saver feature (which can be disabled). If the volume level is low (and thus the signal to the sub is low), the subwoofer tends to shut itself off automatically. It's certainly possible that at low levels, my Onkyo receiver doesn't put any low level signal out to the subwoofer, which would cause the sub to power off. The simple solution is to turn off the power-save feature, and manually power on and off the subwoofer, which is what I do now.
When used with a large screen TV.......2007-12-13
I have a Sony large screen HDTV and wanted to add base to the native speakers. In short the 100 watt subwoofer sounds great with actual HDTV programing, probably due to its digital audio feed; but it is anemic with regular programs. Wish I had considered the 150 watt unit instead. Then my wife could yell at me more often to turn the volume down.

The case is large and has good room to drop in the motherboard. Build quailty is average but normal in this price range. Ventilation is very good. Instructons could be a lot better. The case does it's job and for the price is it an overclockers bargain. The only big negative is that it has difficult cable management.

I've had this case for about 6 months with a 680SLi motherboard, 650 Watt PSU, 640MB 8800GTS, E6700, 500GB Samsung HD, and no problems whatsoever. It was easy to hook everything up, and there was plenty of space. The ports on the top are very handy and I love its geeky styling. The huge fans create lots of airflow and are pretty quiet. Actually, I think the loudest fan inside is the stock one that came with the CPU. Some day I'll replace that fan with a quieter one, but it runs cool enough with that one, so it's not urgent. Also, this case seems to be plenty big, but not overly gigantic. Buy one!

The drive installs and works really easily. However, I did have a technical issue with the drive and made the mistake of contacting their technical support. First by e-mail and it took over four days to get a response - not the two business days they claim. Then I contacted their support center and it was a waiste of time as the person didn't really have a clue. You need to insist on talking to a Senior Technician if you want help. Or you can search through their FAQ section on the web site. Overall though, the drive itself is very impressive.

The old Version of the case was better.......2007-12-25
I bought my first sonata case 2 years ago and love it. This new one is ok, but not as nice as the old models. The case finishing is lousy, has an orange peel texture instead of a smooth finish like the old cases. The rubber feet came off when I pulled it out from under my desk (cheap glue instead of being screwed or plugged into the case. The door that covers the drives feels cheap and flimsy. I get the feeling antec has moved their production to the lowest bidder for their cases now.
There is a fan switch for the rear fan of this case with a low med and high setting, however there is no where on the back of the case for the switch to fit and be accessible, I have it hanging out of an extra lan port on the rear plate.
On the plus side the case still has rubber mounting for all the drives and the fans are very quiet.

Sonata mini tower was a good as I expected it to be. I gave it 5 stars despite the fact that the fan was damaged in shipping ( don't know who to blame there ), and the manual was pretty poor. I just bought a new fan, rather than go to the trouble of shipping it back.

Pros: Very quiet. High quality, seems sturdy, easy to load the drives. Love the all black look. Power supply is good and 500 Watts.
Cons: Plastic door seems a little flimsy. Also the front USB, firewire and audio ports are kind of difficult to use, I mean that you really need to push the usb plug into the outlet and it scratches the cord's metal, same with headphones they are a little difficult to push into the front port.
Other than that it is a nice sturdy case. I got it on sale for 80$ and am very happy with the deal.

This is an excellent case for my home theater needs. Very quiet and extremely well put together. Installing the motherboard and drives was very easy. The locking front is absolutely essential if you have young children. It prevents them from powering on and off the system. I previously had one of my hard drives crashed by one of my cute little button pusher. Thank goodness for backups. Could not ask for a better case in this price point.

This is my third Antec case and by far the best. The hard drives are very easy to install and maintain in this case. The mounting system system keeps vibration from being transmitted to the frame. Another plus is the removable filter in front of the air intake. In my older cases, the hard drive became coated with lint without this feature.
It is very quiet with the case fan on low speed. I had to run it at a higher speed probably because of my four hard drives. I replaced the fan with one that could be controlled by the BIOS.

My Book Pro II/Premium II family great; problems with Vista........2007-12-22
This review covers the family of My Book Pro II/Premium II drives from Western Digital, since the primary differences between the 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0Tb dual-drive models involve the size of the drive pair only, as far as I can tell. I own the My Book Pro II 1.5Tb drive and have only configured it for the factory-default Raid 0 mode, since I wanted as much non-redundant storage as possible.
Anyone not familiar with external USB or Firewire drives may be surprised at the significantly slower data transfer; the USB or Firewire interface is the bottleneck, not the drive itself. For bulk storage at still-reasonable transfer rates and for the purchase price per byte, these large capacity drives can't be beat - as long as they are reliable and the user observes all the rules about making sure the drives are safe to physically disconnect from the computer (I won't cover the rules here; the operating system has its own Help section that can assist the user who is unsure of how to physically disconnect their drive without turning off the computer itself).
OK, back to the Western Digital My Book II drive... when the drive is received, the Raid Manager software package should be installed before plugging in the drive. After I did this and plugged in the drive, I had one problem after another with the drive disappearing in Windows, the fan going very loud when there was no heat issue to make it do so, then the drive would act like it over-heated and shut down. Twice I received replacement drives and both replacement drives acted the same way.
I figured the problem wasn't the drive, so I tried the second replacement on a second PC running Vista; same problems. I next moved the drive to a PC running Windows XP; no problem - the drive ran quietly and reliably.
It turns out there is currently (12/22/07) a problem with Windows Vista and the way it stores driver information. The fix is found in their technical bulletin 1708 (go to www.wdc.com, support, frequently asked questions and enter "1708" in the "Search by Keyword" field. This has solved all my problems with my drive and I can now recommend this drive without reservations, however Vista is due for its first significant "patch", SP1, in the first half of 2008 and these sorts of patches have sometimes provoked new problems. I do think the solution presented in technical bulletin 1708 would still be helpful if the SP1 patch caused further problems, however.
Drive failed in 1 week.......2007-12-07
I was pretty excited to get this drive as a backup for the new Time Machine feature in Leopard. It seemed to work well but every time my computer went to sleep the backup would stop and would not restart. I tried not letting the computer go to sleep but the hard drive would power down in the middle of the backup. WD was no help and after a week the drive would not boot. The RAID manager said that Drive B was missing so I had to send it back. It also did not work as a USB drive off of the Airport. I am assuming this was because of the RAID software that comes with the drive. If it did not pwer down during backup I would be willing to buy another one and take my chances but I need it as a backup drive and I need it to stay on. There is no way to turn off the powersave mode so I think it deserves a low rating. Amazon took it back without any trouble.

Crashes my Vista Computer.......2007-12-21
There appears to be a serious problem with compatibility of this drive and my Dell XPS computer using a Vista OS. It was extraordinarily difficult to get the computer to recognize the presence of the drive, and it took hours of work with Dell tech support to get it to the point that it did. Thereafter, it could copy files, but with frequency its attachment results in a crash of the computer. This likely results (I have no evidence for this) from the general incompatibility of Vista with a lot of hardware, even with software generated by the manufacturer of the hardware that supposedly is Vista compatible. Hopefully the patch for Vista due out, I am told, within the next month, will help cure this problem.
One Year... no problems on XP.......2007-11-14
I purchased this product almost a year ago (9 months to be exact) and have held off on writing a review on this product because of some of the complaints pointed to extended use.
As I've said, I've had this product for 9 months now and have had no troubles with it and will be buying a second one in the next month. Doing 3D computer graphics and animation this product has helped conserve hard drive space and usage which is necessary when doing composite layering and rendering.
In the nine months, I have had NO, and I repeat, NO data loss. While the direct, on the drive, rendering time of animation is a little slow, than if I rendered on my main hard drive, the Firewire connection has proved stable and reliable.
Well worth the money I spent and will be spending more to increase my storage capabilities.

Whatever you do, do not purchase this drive. If so, be prepared for a large headache.
The drive had problems being recognized by all of our systems. When it finally did start working, we transferred large amounts of data (which is backed up on discs, thankfully) and used it for a day or two. Then, it simply stopped working. After talking to tech support, they sent us to data recovery folks who wanted to charge a minimum of $700 to retrieve the data. Maxtor is simply awful.

I have sent one back and Maxtor sent me a new one. Now it's dying and I have to send that back. There are no refunds. Some of the problems that occur with this drive are: Trouble mounting and unmounting drive. Slows down with streaming. Freezes up completely. The other thing is this drive is huge and heavy. I first lost about 500 gigs of data and Maxtor claimed they could retrieve it for me...at a minimum cost of $750!!! If you see people with 5 stars on their comments...it's only because they aren't quite there yet with these problems. This would not make a good back up drive or working drive at all!!! Buy something else.
total failure.......2007-09-06
We bought one of these for our department at a hospital. It failed. The replacement failed, and the replacement for the replacement failed. Rather than send it back and get a FOURTH one, we've voided out warranty and ripped it apart, and are putting the drives inside (which are still readable) in a different enclosure.
Something that should be a huge warning sign to anyone thinking of buying one of these (and which we will watch out for in the future) is that the drives are not user-swappable. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF A MIRRORED RAID ARRAY! When one of the drives goes bad, the user can swap it out with another one him/herself!

Being located in Los Angeles were some of my favorite stations have peer reception I was hesitant to order any under the cabinet radio. When I found this iPod unit I figured if the radio didn't live up to the reviews I'd at least have my pod. The installation was fairly easy, clearing the bottom cabinet shelf, marking holes from underneath with the easy to use template, drilling, fitting the spacers, and tightening the four mounting screws. Took 10 minutes from start to finish. I swung the iPod connection bracket down and fired it up. I was pleased with the sound. I switched to the FM radio and dialed up my favorite NPR stations and was amazed at the reception! I switched to AM and tried the talk and news stations and loved the results. All stations I want are clear, little interference, volume is good, tone is good, remote is useful, I love most aspects of this unit. The only thing I can think of to say about that is annoying is the volume setting when turning it on is not the same as I had it set to when I powered it off, it is louder than I would like it to be. If I can figure out how to change the default power on volume I will be perfectly happy with this. One interesting feature that I puzzled over until I thought about it was the volume down button is double the size of the volume up button. I guess it is a tactile signal so you can turn it down with less attention in a hurry.

This unit sounds pretty good for the price.
Features are nice and controls are intuitive.
The one criticism I have is the AM tuner. This was one of the features I really wanted, however I was unable to tune in a single AM station.
The FM is Crystal clear.
Ipod control is nice, also nice to have aux input/output.
Be sure to plan for room for swing down cradle the that holds Ipod. Once in it can be tucked out of the way.

Wired and Wireless Connectivity
The FWG114P can connect up to 253 users onto the LAN, including 64 wireless users, to share a single broadband connection. Built in to the router is a 4-port 10/100 switch for up to four connections, as well as an 802.11g wireless access point. The wireless network supports speeds up to 54 Mbps and there is a detachable 5 dBi antenna included.
A USB port allows you to connect a printer to the network that multiple users can share simultaneously. An RS-232 serial port provides a backup connection in case the main network connection fails. A row of LED lets you know the status of the network at a glance.
High-class Security
For more security than just a simple NAT router, the FVG318 offers significantly more protection. Network works--Print server fails with Dymo label printer.......2007-10-22
I chose this combination wireless router and USB print server because I needed both those functions and wanted to keep the equipment/wiring quantity down. However, the print server failed with our Dymo LabelWriter 400. This was unfortunate but not entirely unexpected. Printer compatibility is hit-or-miss with most of these.
I solved this problem with a separate Netgear USB Mini Print Server (Model PS121), which was reported to work by Dymo. Now we can print wirelessly to our laser and the LabelWriter.
Overall the functionality is fine. I think it compares favorably to my home network's Linksys WRT54G, though I would have simply bought another Linksys if I'd known up front that the integrated print server isn't compatible.
Good Wireless Router.......2007-09-27
I've been using this router for a couple of weeks now with no hitches. The wireless connection signal is very strong.
Setup was fairly easy and painless, but you should know this.....
I connected my Canon multi-functional printer, scanner, copier, fax unit into the router's USB port and all I can do is print. You also won't get any feedback from the printer, so when you hit "Print" the popup printing progress window tells you the printer isn't responding, but it's actually printing just fine. This is not a huge problem for me, as that's all I do from my laptop is print. Most of the time that's all I do with my printer from my desktop computer too. When I want to do something else from my desktop, I just swap the USB plug to the computer's USB port and back into the router when I'm done, nothing needs resetting. I consider it a minor inconvenience, but your mileage may vary.
Support is terrible; product doesn't entirely work as advertised.......2007-08-08
All the support guys are trained to be nice, but they are not trained on the technology and are useless. After 3 weeks of waiting, calling, waiting, escalating, waiting, escalating, waiting, referred to engineering, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting. The product does not actually work with ISDN as advertised and no one at Netgear support has ever heard of ISDN.
The device is really intended for a basic uncomplicated setup with Cable modem as the primary line and a regular modem as a dial backup or dial-in access method. For that, it seems OK.
But for me, I'm packing it up and returning it because it doesn't actually work. Big disappointment. Lots of frustration.
Worst Netgear product I've ever owned.......2007-07-02
I read all of the reviews before I bought this and figured that surely Netgear would fix all the problems that were mentioned. I was incredibly wrong. The now two year old problem of constantly dropping WAN connection is still prevalent. I had an FWG114PV2 and I upgraded it to the latest firmware and had no problems at all for about 2 hours. Then I had to reboot the router every 5 minutes for an hour. Then it went up a bit more to 15-20 minutes each hour and then back to around 5. The longest it ever held connection was a full 18 hours which I thought was sheer magic. During the longest period of connectivity was my heaviest use as well. Both my girlfriend and I work from home and we simply pounded the router with data due to the nature of our jobs. I remember only have Pidgin. PuTTY, and Firefox with 3 tabs open during nearly 6 hours of random WAN drops. I wasn't doing anything special if I was doing anything at all. Most traffic was simple IMing and SSH traffic and nothing more.
After that debacle, I downgraded to firmware 1.2_04 (second newest, nearly a year old at this point) and it was no better. I did the same testing as before: Pidgin, PuTTY, Firefox. The connection drops were less frequent but still happened multiple times an hour. At that point, I was completely fed up and promptly filled out an Amazon return. In total, I had this piece of junk for 1 week including the UPS pick-up to my apartment. It was only in use for 2 days and I didn't even get to test out the print server functionality but I too figured that it wouldn't work worth what this thing costs.
As a replacement, I dusted off my old WRT54GL that FON sent me nearly three years ago and flashed it with dd-wrt. Since then, the router has been rebooted two times by me and only had a dropped WAN connection once...when my DHCP lease renewed itself.
I gave this piece of junk 2 stars simply because the case is made of metal and not cheap plastic like the rest of consumer-level networking products.
Works Perfectly.......2007-06-09
Having read the other reviews, I guess I've been really lucky. I almost didn't buy this unit, but since I owned a previous version that supported parallel printers, I thought I'd give it a try.
I don't use many features of the firewall, except I filter all incoming requests. But after finding out I needed to reboot the cable modem router, the FMG114P worked perfectly as a wireless router. The range is just sufficient to reach from 1 corner of the house on the 1st floor, to the extreme opposite corner on the 2nd floor. Probably about 60'. My old router was a B, this is a G. I haven't noticed it "feeling" much fast.
Connecting my Cannon iP4300 could not have been any easier. There was no software to install for Windows 2000. I just run a simple 3 step process to create a TCP/IP printer port and its worked perfectly. I do have a printer manager application that pops up saying the printer isn't responding, yet the printer starts up and does what it needs to do. I suspect its just a timeout since I'm not sure the drive knows that the printer isn't directly connected to the computer and isn't expecting a response immediately. Anyway, I ignore the message and it quickly goes away. (The router documentation warns that this may happen).
All in all. Its was a perfect replacement for its older sibling and luckily I didn't need tech support.

Arrived broken in 5 places. I called Antec to replace broken part. Three weeks, two phone calls and two emails later I got the wrong part shipped to me. I ordered this case a month ago and I still have no functioning case - just a partly assembled case with no front panel. I am very disappointed. I will never buy from Antec again.
Great Case.......2007-07-23
This case is sweet. It provides lots of room for optimal airflow between the fans and all of the components to provide for efficient cooling. It has lots of expansion room. The materials with which the case is constructed are of superb quality. The drives and power supply chassis and internal components that are prone to vibration are dampered with rubber standoffs and rubber strips to make the case more quiet. There is room for watercooling if you want to go that route. It was designed with the gamer in mind. If you are buying this case and intend on dropping a large number of drives into it take caution as the lower drive chassis (will hold 4 drives) is going to be a tight fit. Those who run lots of RAID arrays might consider a different case, you can only fit about 6 drives in this case unless you intend on getting some convertors from 5 1/4 to 3 1/2. The power supply is directly behind it and routing cables will be an adventure. Sata connectors are real fragile so it will take some planning for your cable management. You can route cables behind that motherboard mount plate. This saves some clutter in the main compartment in the case. The board is very easy to mount, the standoffs are already in place for just about any configuration you might need. Might I also add that the texture, look and feel of the case is quite cool. It is a tall case. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that it is pretty pricey. Coming from being a server admin background I am picky and would have expected a bit more out of this case. It suits my purposes so I will give Antec a thumbs up on this one!!
Really well thought out case. My new favorite........2007-07-08
This is a very well thought out case. The design makes it easy to install the motherboard, hard drives and adapter cards. The exterior is very slick looking. This case has become my new standard by which other cases are judged. And I'm considering moving my other boxes over to the Antec P182.
There are two types of disk installation. On the top bays, you attach a black plastic strip with metal spring locks to either side of the drive and slide it in from the front of the case (not the back). In the two detachable disk bays, you mount the bottom of the drive onto its tray using the long screws and a vibration-damping rubber gasket. Once mounted, the trays slide easily back into their tray and the tray slides easily back into the case. Finally, the two internal disk cases are secured by a thumb screw. Sweet!
If anything, the manuals could be a little more explicit about how to install the hard drives. Once you've figured it out, it's very easy. (That's what a friend used to say about physics: "It's easy once you know it.")
Cabling is easy as there are channels behind the motherboard and between disk sections for routing your cables. Antec provides some nifty tie-downs to keep the cables out of the way too.
The case comes with no power supply, so make sure to have an ATX, SATA or whatever PSU you require. Even with the two 120mm standard Antec case fans and the PSU going, the case is very quiet. There are two switches on the top back of the case to vary the two fans' speeds.
This is a large case. This is the largest case I have right now. That allows you a lot of space to maneuver around when working on your case. There are so many drive bays that you will probably run out of power or hard drive budget before filling them all. My particular configuration probably under-utilizes the space. With 4 SATA RAID drives and a single PATA drive and the PSU mounted in the bottom third of the case, my case definitely has a LOW center of gravity. That's fine by me.
The Best Case Ever.......2007-06-02
Previously a test engineer for a server company, I am very picky when it comes to computer chassis. While I like performance and good airflow, I also would like noise to be minimal at home since I have to hear servers like airplanes at work 11 hours a day. This case was not a noisy airplane, it has very minimal noise at the medium fan speed setting(just enough to know your computer is on). The low noise also is attributed to the sound dampening side panels and all the sound deadening gadgets for HDD/PWS/etc... vibrations.
The next best thing about it is the layout. All the cables I have were hidden very well with no obstructions to airflow. My CPU and GPU SLi setup was running relatively cooler with this case. Also, the tool-less parts made it even better.
As for build quality, this case is the nicest and one of the highest quality controlled products I've seen in the industry. The only negative is that it is ~40 lbs (for you LAN guys who don't like to move it around) but for me, I can carry it just fine. This guy is running as my media center for home theater right now. All you need to remember is it takes a bit of time (45 - 60 mins for me) to route wiring and everything, but once done, it was well worth it.
All the reviews you have read about it are true, this case is definitely a flag ship for Antec. If you want quality, performance, and functionality this is the case and I stand behind it 100% from past experiences in thermal management, cable routing, and server testing.
