About Mio
The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice.
Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

Great for use at work .......2007-12-15
I got one of these watches a couple of years ago, a slightly different Mio model, but overall I have been pleased at how well it works with respect to the heart monitor aspect. I always wanted to know my heart rate when walking at work, but the chest strap thing was just not workable, so I was excited to find this watch. It really does give a accurate reading as I have checked it often against commercial teadmills with the chest strap. I have used it walking outdoors at lunch at work, as well as on a treadmill at work and just walking around the building. It really helps me keep in the "zone" that I'm shooting for, and is great because I have never been able to successfully take my own pulse using the fingers against the neck or on the wrist.
It usually is easier to get readings in the summer months than winter because up here in the north one's skin and fingers can be very dry and it requires some moisture both on your arm and your fingers to be able to get a reading. Often I can just breathe on my fingers and that provides enough moisture to make the reading possible. I was originally very skeptical that this could work at all, since nearly everything that measured a pulse used that chest strap thingy, but this watch really does do the job.
While I have no problems taking a reading while walking on the treadmill or outside, I do agree that a lot of body movement can make it more difficult to hold one's fingers on the sensors. It usually takes me about two or so seconds to get a reading, depending on the circumstances.
Unlike the chest strap stuff, you can take a reading on this watch at any time, so if you are climbing the stairs at work to get some exercise, you can take a reading when you get to the top to see how hard your heart has had to work to get you there. I even used it in a meeting once when I got really stressed out and it showed measurably by an accelerated pulse as measured by the Mio! Imagine the fun you could have while stuck in a massive traffic jam, watching your pulse soar into the "red zone" just sitting in your car! Or taking your pulse at the airport after you have been told your flight has been cancelled. Seriously, though, I have found that my pulse and my stress levels are related in that high stress always gives me a faster pulse, even at rest. When I see that, I try to take action to lower my stress level and thus my pulse. Sometimes you can be stressed out and not really realize it until you see your pulse racing when it should not be. Your heart is a lot smarter than you give it credit for! So for me I have a "low pulse" goal that I strive for as well, and when I am near it, usually at home relaxing, I know my stress is under control and I am doing well. I have found with this watch that the lower the pulse rate I get, the happier I am at that particular time more often than not. To me the Mio proves that stress is more than just in one's mind. It has a physiological affect on your body as well, almost all negative!
Considering the modest cost of the unit, combined with not having to worry about bulky and expensive chest straps, especially at work, and that you can always have it handy to use, I'd say I'm happy with the watch. The only thing I would add to this would be what my other watch I own has: automatic setting by the NIST atomic clocks (over the air) each day to keep the time perfect.
a bit on the bulky side but I like it.......2007-12-13
I just bought it from the Walmart where I live, because it was the same price as on here $39.99,there was only one left, I thought it was a reasonable price, seems to work as it says it does, this one counts the calories you burn during exercise base on your age,and weight, but doesn't have the calorie input, and set calorie goal like the other little more expensive mio model, but I dont really need it,I think it would be too much work to punch in the calories I eat for each food etc. probably easier to write it down.
I read the review about not being able to use the light when you get the heart rate results, but the way around it is to Press the light button first then check your heart rate, and the light will stay continuously on till you take your fingers off the contacts, even then it stays on for about 5-10sec sec after taking your fingers off.
I haven't had trouble with getting a reading, you have to make sure the watch is snug on your wrist because it uses the metal backing too as a contact+your fingers on the two sensors, if you just touch the two sensors and your skin isn't also touching the metal backing of the watch you won't get a reading!
so make sure its a snug fit.
Still needs some work.......2006-09-30
I read many reviews on this watch, and the one thing that I saw over and over was the complaint that the HR wouldn't display during an activity, such as running. The runner had to stop to get a reading. I took a chance since I would either be walking or on an exercise bike, but lo! I'm even having the problem while walking and while simply sitting on my exercise bike with my legs pushing the pedals. I rarely get a reading while still exercising at a very moderate rate. It seems the watch only cooperates when I'm still.
Despite this problem, I like the watch. All the features work well, aren't too hard to program, and work well for me. The watch is bulky and quite large on a smaller wrist, but there is a lady's version available. I made sure to buy the Mio that offers the interchangeable strap, which is a good thing. One other reviewer complained about the strap breaking on another Mio with no way to replace it. I can see how that would happen over time. The plastic used on the band is rigid and with the bending of putting the watch on every day, it appears it won't take long for the plastic to break.
Overall, I find it to be an acceptable HR monitor with limitations that some, however, might find unacceptable.
Somewhat disappointed.......2006-08-30
The fact that you don't need a chest strap is what attracted me to the Mio products to begin with. That is certainly a nice feature, and one to consider. However, the "beep" that the watch emits after a successful read is too difficult to hear. Despite the instructions that you should take your heart rate with your hands at a lower height than your heart, I can't hear the beep unless I have the watch up near my ear. My only other issue is that the backlight does not work when the watch is displaying my heart rate after a read. I ususally run at 5:00am, in the dark, so the light would certainly be helpful. I could have lived without the beep if the light worked.

Mio Heart monitor.......2007-12-25
Did not want to use chest strap, heard this was one of the better ones without, so far so good, easy to use and accurate.
Painfully to bulky.......2007-12-14
This heart rate monitor watch is easy to set up, easy to use, and keeps track of your calories without the use of a calculator and paper. The downside to it is that it is very unconfortable to wear, and almost impossible to wear with a long sleeve. If it rests over your wrist at all it is painful to bend or move your wrist. You have to keep it up on your arm, or wear it loose but with only short sleeves.
Great heartrate monitor WITHOUT a chest strap.......2007-11-25
I bought this watch after much research. I wanted a heartrate monitor watch that didn't have a chest strap. This is about as basic as you can get, but it isn't short on features. Stopwatch, calorie count (based on your weight and heartrate when exercising), alarm, etc. The only complaints I have, and please keep these in context, is that it's a bit of a pain to check your heartrate while exercising when you have to place your index and middle finger on the tabs. Sometimes, I can't get a reading, but with a simple adjustment of the watch (sliding it up or down an inch) and can usually get one. When I'm in the middle of a run, the last thing I want to do is fuss with anything (watch, ipod, shoe, sock...). If a little fuss means I don't have to have a strap around my chest, I'm all for it!
One little feature I really love about this watch is the strap. Mio designed it so that the strap doesn't have pins where it connects to the watch. The watch actually slides into the strap, and with replacement straps coming in different colors, gives it some fashion hope. It's still an ugly fitness watch, but one with some options!
MIO Shape Select....NOT HAPPY!.......2007-10-24
I bought this thinking it would be great not to have a chest strap during my spin class...the problem is that it is impossible to keep checking my heart rate and then setting it to get an accurate heart/calorie reading. This is NOT a continuous heart rate monitor. I don't know about anyone else but there isn't alot of opportunity to STOP in a spin class!! If you are walking or cleaning house it would work but not for any intense cardio workout. I'm going back to the chest strap!
MIO Ultiamate, the sport model plus Chest monitor.......2007-08-04
I have researched a lot of heart monitor watches, and Polar seemed to be everywhere. But, the more I read the more I found things I didn't like, so I kept looking and found the MIO.
The Sport and Ultimate are the same watch, but the Ultimate comes with the chest monitor and the Sport you have to purchase seperately. Depending on YOUR workout you can decide which is best for you.
Let's start with the cons because most people reading a reveiew (like I did) want's to know what people using the watch find an issue with.
* Like all these monitors you need to take some time upfront to set the watch up. This applies to all of the watches. Good news with teh MIO is the heart rate monitor works out the box and at your fingertips.
* Rate is hard to get a reading from when running, you need to slow down to a jog to fingers in place to get a good reading, takes 5 seconds. Great if you stop to rest, traffic signals, after run, etc
* Need to read the instructions well to get the calorie count
* Water resistance to 10 M (30 feet) so if you go into the ocean a lot may be an issue.
* No back light
Pros
* Easy to read dial when working out. The up and down arrows also help you target your heart rate better by speeding you up or slowing you down
* Monitor works very easily and is accurate. I have not had a false reading yet
* Chest monitor is GREAT! I work out outside, but also go to the gym and use the tread mill and stationary bikes. The chest monitor works well and all the equipment reads the chest monitor and displays on the work out equipmpent. This allows me to focus on work out. The watch also shows the rate with up and down arrows keeping you within your target range (which you set). If you do cardio in the gym get the chest monitor.
* Chest monitor is very comfortable to wear also.
* Face dial large enough to read easily, but the watch is small enough to wear everyday. About the size of a Timex Ironman watch.
* Lots of features to use, but standard watch features are good too.
Bottom Line
The monitor has all the features of the much more expense monitors sold by other companies. Has very few real cons, and it works well, is comfortable to wear, and is a great value.

Not Stainless Steel.......2007-12-18
This phone is silver colored plastic, not stainless steel. The ad copy is deliberately misleading on this point, and adding the term "finish" does not correct the misimpression. Don't be fooled!GE - DECT 6.0 - Stainless Steel Finish
It works.......2007-12-08
If I don't have anything bad to say about it, it's a dam good phone.
GE DECT 6.0 SS wall mounted telephone.......2007-12-06
In my 70 years, this is by far the worst purchase i have ever made. Handset feed=back when on speaker fone unless your 3 - 4 feet away. Voice mail can only delete if you disassemble all the menu items. This has turned me off GE and its Product line. I will look elsewhere.
Big Disapointment.......2007-12-03
Very nice design but functionally a piece of garbage. Everything interferes with it and the mute feature has a mind of its own turning on and off by itself. Every person I called or called me asked "what is with your phone" !!!
GE-DECT 6.0 Stainless.......2007-10-28
Phone does everything it was advertised to do. It easily mounted to the wall and the included DSL filter is a nice touch. Sound is crisp and clear. The red LED showing the number of messages will wash out in bright sunlight. The range of the unit is more than acceptable and there is no interference from or to the numberous other wireless devices in the home.

A vast improvement over the older models.......2007-08-25
This gril preforms as advertized! Clean up is also much improved and easier done when it is cold (no more reheating the unit up or eating cold food in attempt to avoid reheating the unit for cleaning).
The searing part of it is great!
The only possible improvement to this would be to be able to give it the charcoal flavor with this unit - that is merely a dream.
The grilling surface area is DEFINITELY large enough for a family of four.
Should you purchase this and I am totally pleased especially with the stainless steel finish, read the instructions carefully - otherwise you may end up with a darkened countertop - since I heeded that I have had no problem with that.
I highly recommend this product for anyone. I am a widow so I was surprised at the cooking area of this grill - I simply cook more than one item on it at a time.

Braces for your kitchen.......2007-08-07
This george foreman is awesome! The food that comes out is excellent! It's so good, even my dumb a** roommate can cook a good meal. If you're considering culinary education, forget it. This is the $80 dollar fix. Now you can go to a real school.. Best george forman i have ever had!
Foreman GFSG80.......2007-08-07
The grill is good, I just prefer grilling outside but it rains here continously. I use the grill at least twice a week to grill fish and buffalo burgers and all turns out as expected. I miss the mesquite chips I use out of doors.
Good Grill.......2007-07-25
very good grill. The amazon price is much better then at the department stores. I do wish you could remove the grilling plates to put in the dishwasher, but no Foreman grill does this, so I was not that disapponted. Controls are still a bit cheap, but workable. Over all, a good grill for the price.
Nice Grill but cleanup ...............2007-07-12
It cooks nicely but the work it takes to clean it makes the item not worth using. It sits unused at this point. There's no drain for the top portion so when it's lifted off the cooked food it just runs down onto the back of the grill and onto the counter.

This knife comes with Gerber's limited lifetime warranty.
Customer Reviews:
The absolute best designed folding knife.......2007-07-01
I'm a designer, and I compulsively get caught up in the design details of products. I'm not a knife collector, or even an expert. My previous knife is a 40 year old folding Buck knife. I love that Buck, but it's so heavy and awkward to carry. In researching a new knife to buy, I looked for one that was large and sturdy enough to be a good survival knife while on the hiking trail. I also looked for a knife that, was light, had a trim profile, and could be opened with one hand. I found all these in the Gerber "Fast Draw". it's surprisingly sturdy for it's light weight. the spring-assist opening mechanism makes it very easy to open quickly with one hand, and snaps to a solid locked-open position. Like I said, I'm not a knife expert, just someone who appreciates good tools and well designed product--but I would enthusiastically recommend this knife to anyone. Unless you really hate serrated blades, get the serrated version. it's half-serrated, allowing for carving with the front half of the blade, but the serrated section cuts through even the toughest lines with ease.
Great carry Knife at an excellent price!.......2007-03-11
The Gerber F.A.S.T. (Forward Action Spring Technology) Draw knife is a pleasure to open and requires nothing more than a nudge on the thumb stud, or a simple push from your index finger on the knifes back to snap into action, and locking the blade in place. It has an excellent 3" 440A High Carbon Stainless blade (that is half serrated) is extremely sharp, and holds an edge for a long time between sharpenings! To close the blade you must slide a small, conveniently located button under your thumb forward and fold. The body of the knife is a very grippable, solid feeling glass-filled nylon, that feels great in your hand.
I love knives and have several Kershaws, Bucks, SOGs and Spyderco knives. I consider myself a knife junkie and enjoy all of my blades. But this knife is often the one I carry with me everyday! I really like the integrated "steel" pocket clip, it is easy to carry in the pocket and releases only when you want! I have recommended this knife to many of my friends and have given them as gifts to knife newbies frequently!
scary sharp.......2006-11-10
A fine knife at the price. Opens with a satyifying snick. It may come open in your pocket however, beware.

The Perfect Watch.......2007-12-21
This watch is perfect! I only buy watches with expansion bands and some of them pinch your wrist. This one doesn't. It is delicate looking yet sturdy. A great value.
timex does it again!.......2007-08-25
this timex watch has done a very difficult thing , it pleased my wife. The cavatina looks good and has performed flawlessly.
Beautiful watch.......2007-03-31
This is a beautiful watch....Delicate...looks expensive. To me there is nothing better than a Timex. This is the very best buy for the money.
Very pretty but for smaller wrist.......2007-01-17
This is a lovely watch. The expandable band is for a not large wrist. It is tight on me and tends to pinch, unfortunately. It was small for my friend too, so we're waiting for a friend with a smaller wrist to give it to. I haven't had the best of luck with Timex warranty; they want you to send in the watch at your expense when there is a factory defect. This is why I gave it three stars instead of four. It is very pretty.
