Haven't even filled up most of my memory on this, but its wonderful to take to the gym and watch a movie on, distracts you of the actual workout. Also, can finally fit all my music in one player and love the playlist feature.

This is my first portable media player, before i used to play media in my iPaq, but i the experience was not too good. I just have it since a few days ago and i like it, the sound and the video are good and it have tv output and that is something i like, but there are a few things wrong with it, first installing the zune software to get it recognized with a nightmare, i spent several hours to get the firmware updated and it synchronizing to my computer, after this initial issue got solved i have not have more problems with synchronization while connected with the usb cable, but i have not been able to synchronize it wirelessly, it recognize the network but for some reason when i try the synchronization it doesn't works.
I hope in next firmware updates this get some kind better.
I am still like it, because i love to been able to listen anywhere a good part of my music collection and to watch some videos and tv shows on it.

What a great deal on a great competitor to the over-priced iPod. Although the product was priced for shipping after Christmas, it arrived two weeks early!! How often does that happen?!? Microsoft is continuing to work out the remainder of the quirks with protected media, but I think that will be solved soon.

Hardware Five Stars; Software Zero.......2007-12-27
The Zune itself is a well designed, high quality device that more than met my expectations. It also produces excellent sound quality in comparison to playing a CD off of a DVD/CD player.
The software, however shows a major lack of oversight on Microsoft's part. As soon as I turned the Zune on I discover that you can't do a thing with it without downloading the related software. Once on the site it becomes clear that this was done in an attempt by Microsoft to have the customer give basic personal information, join up with the social network and sign up for various services. Once I downloaded the software I had to make a phone call to tech support because the program did not display correctly. They explained that my computer, and most others that are not brand new, are not compatible. The only solution is to make some adjustments that create a version of the software that will make you feel like you're back using a shareware program on Windows 3.1. In conclusion:
Pro's: The Zune itself is perfect all around
Con's: The software is a joke and the online download/registration makes this device inappropriate for someone without a high speed internet connection. If you're looking for a simple-click and drag system to put your CD collection onto a player do yourself a favor and go with a different brand such as Creative.
WARNING: SOFTWARE COMES LOADED WITH VIRUSES.......2007-12-27
Never one to be biased and after years of satisfactory use with iPods I was more than happy after receiving the new Zune 80GB for Christmas. After all this was the new Zune, not the oversized brick released a year ago. I was positive Microsoft managed to work all the imperfections out of their so called "iPod Killer" by now so naturally the first thing I did was download the Zune software to my desktop and laptop. Sounds easy enough, right?
After installing said software on both PCs my anti-virus software informed me that I had just encountered a virus named "Worm.Win32.HuhK.c." that should be deleted immediately and a full scan of my computer was recommended. Always being one to keep my PCs healthy I started my full virus scan instantly. When finished my anti-virus software informed me that I had been infected with 11 other viruses directly related to the Worm.Win32 infestation. Which was probably the virus downloading some friends of his.
I know what your thinking...well this guy obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, he could have picked up that virus from anywhere, wrong. This virus was detected on both my PCs two seconds after installing the Zune software from the Microsoft website. There is no way this could be a coincidence. Also it should be added that I never deviate from mainstream websites because I am very virus conscious and protective of my computers.
I did manage to delete all the viruses that were found on my PCs but I am still upset that after trying so hard to keep my computers in good health for years something as simple as installing Zune software could circumvent my security so easily.
As a man of principle I used my gift return receipt to exchange my Zune for the latest 160GB iPod. I'm not sure how potentially dangerous this Zune virus was to my computer but I'm not taking any chances. It was a pleasure going back to the familiar virus-free iTunes software I've become accustomed to.
So in conclusion this is more of a warning to the consumer than an actual review being that I never got to use the Zune itself. Software laced with viruses is something I won't tolerate and I think its only fair that other people know what they're getting into.

I own 6 iPods, an iRiver Clix 2 and now a Zune 80 and here is what I think of the Zune after one week.
Pros
Navigation with twist interface much better than the interface on the new iPod nano's and iPod classic. I can't stand the split screen.
Brushed aluminum back: This is one of the best features, I own 6 iPods and I scratched every single one of them within 15 minutes of taking them out of the box and I baby my electronics!
Glass screen: another plus, all my iPods(save my iPod touch) I have scratched the screen within a week or so of owning them.
Zune pad: I love tactile feedback, my iPod touch is frustrating sometimes because it attracts smudges and fingerprints with all the "touching". I also love being able to swipe to change a song or menu on the Zune.
Stock ear buds that are actually worth keeping/using
Wireless syncing was easy to setup and use but I seriously doubt I will ever use it.
Cons
Build quality is nowhere near the iPod. The Zune 80 feels toy like.
My Zune has frozen during use 3 times in the 5 days I have owned it which required a reboot( ala holding the back button down while pressing up on the Zune pad)
Zune software installation process. On Vista Home premium it took me over an hour to get the software installed(I work in the IT Field so this should have been a no brainer). Another hour to figure out how to get all my album art to show up on Zune 80(Erase all content and resync device after rebooting computer).
Zune marketplace software has been dumbed down way too much. Microsoft could have just cloned iTunes and it would look better and be a lot better laid out/organized.
Wifi sharing: I think it will be many years if ever that I find another person with a Zune that I can/want to "squirt" a song to.
Only works with Windows. Thankfully I now have a Intel Mac and am able to run Vista in Bootcamp. Before when I only had a Powerpc Mac I had to admire from afar. If they made the Zune cross platform I have a feeling more people would try them out.
In closing I enjoy the Zune 80GB and its interface over the new iPod Nano and iPod Classic, however it could use more advanced settings options, an equalizer, and the video playback needs some tweaking(When a video ends on the Zune it doesn't do anything. On the iPod it kicks you back to the video menu.)
Just one GRIPE... Doesn't support DivX/XviD playback!.......2007-12-27
Everything about this thing is GREAT! But it really lags behind in MEDIA SUPPORT!
I mean COME ON! It can play almost every video format, including iPod MP4's, MPEG-4's and M4A's... BUT NOT DivX/XviD?! CREATIVE's ZEN's play DivX/XviD videos! But other than that, this think is PERFECT! I got it for Christmas, so that was awesome... DIDN'T have to pay for it. But yeah!
Besides the fact that is not the way of the future because of the lack of DivX/XviD playback, it will still continue to thrive in the social era!
So, about a 3.5 out of 5 for me... Yes, because of the lack of DivX/XviD playback... YES! That is the reason... Otherwise it'd be a full 5 Stars!
Zoom for the Zune!.......2007-12-26
I received the 80gb Zune for Christmas and love it! I have been doing all the necessary downloads so I can begin transferring music. After reading some reviews, I don't know what the big deal is about downloading the Zune software. Laziness or lack of research on the product may be the answer. I have read both booklets that come with the product and followed everything to a "t"....and guess what!?! Everything seems fine if you follow directions.
It's sleek new look makes it very attractive, the glass screen is also nice (i'm gonna buy a plastic cover though). It's easy to use and I love the large screen. It's still new to me, so I'm learning a lot about the Zune, but so far, I can't put it down!

After owing the Zune for over a month and dealing with its user UN-friendly music and video formats, I've come to realize that Microsoft's reason for such limited formats may be an attempt to force change upon the music and movie industry to create yet another monopoly.
This is the only reason that one can find when looking at the limitation of the Zune and realizing that Microsoft is a software company. They are not a start up company with limited resources but are on a course for market domination.
Buy the Zune if you want, but realize you are financing intellectual and progress limitations.

I recieved this device as a christmas present and have already fallen in love with its intuitive interface, simplistic design, and broad range of capabilities. It's nice to be able to wirelessly sync the device to my computer through my home wireless network. I highly reccommend this device.
Not all files play.......2007-12-25
I bought this for audiobooks that we download from our local libray. They are WMA format, and the Zune says that it plays WMA files, but when I tried to transfer it wouldn't work. After deeper reasearch I discovered that it will indeed play WMA files, but only if you buy them from the Zune store. It seemed like a good player but I returned it right away, so I didn't get a chance to explore it. I bought a Creative Zen and it is sweet and played all my files perfectly, including the audiobooks.
Great MP3 Player.......2007-12-25
This is my third MP3 player after a first generation ipod mini (which I subsequently sold) and a creative zen micro photo (which recently died after 2 years of impeccable service). I liked the Zen, but wanted something a bit more sleek, so after reading some good reviews of the Zune, I bought it. I was not disappointed.
All of its controls are pretty intuitive. I think the control pad works as well as the wheel on the ipod mini I had, if not better. The zune software, while not my first choice for music management, works well for its purpose. I definitely prefer it to iTunes. The screen is bright and the wireless sync worked flawlessly. I don't really have a bad thing to say about this player. Others have complained about the lack of an equalizer. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile and I think the sound is just fine, even through the included headphones. This may not be the case for those with more discerning ears, but I think it's just fine.
Terrible user experience .......2007-12-22
I received my Zune Thursday and affter a day and a half of trying it to work with my new HP laptop I've given up and will be sending it back to Amazon for a refund. Conversely, went down to Best Buy purchase a iPod nano and was down loading songs from iTunes in under 2 minutes.

1st I must say the red is awesome looking. I own the 30gb, 8gb and the 80gb
and this is my favorite out of all of them, and this is why, the screen is very sharp and the sound quality is amazing, I dont go anywere with out this thing, it's much cooler then the nano I really don't like ipods.... at all
With ipods you can impress a few kids at school, but that's about it. With this and all Zunes you can customize the background, makeing it your own style. The red looks nothing like the red on the box, it has a much more glossy color. The interface is outstanding and the zune marketplace is very simple and actully has a subscription to it's music which ipod does not. You will want to buy a new pair of earphones because the pair it comes with suck, I suggest you go to your local fye and pick up a ten buck pair of skullcandy earphones. Oh yeah, the screen does not scratch easily because it's made of glass.The 30 gb Zune's screen was made of plastic and it scratched super easily. thanks for reading :)

Actual size was not what I expected. Could not view in store prior to Amazon purchase. Amazon shopping was not exactly clear that the Zune 8 gb was 1/2 the screen size as the 80 gb version. Cost me shipping on returning it to Amazon.

My mom got me this zune for christmas, I had been anticipating the mp3 player for like 4 months. I had my mom install it on the computer because when i tryed it was to annoying and i was in a rush to play guitar hero 3. It took my mom about 3 hours to install it because we had to upgrade programs and they weren't working but after a bit i came over and just went by the directions and bam! it worked. I have about 200 songs and 2 shows on it, its awsome. The image quality is mind blowing and trust me on this buy zunes over ipods. Ipods SUCK! they snap, crack, break, all the time buy a zune they never break.

I wish I had a Zune to review! I ordered this well over a week ago with Amazon's *guarantee* to be delivered in time for Christmas! Well guess what ... it is now Christmas Eve and there is no Zune under my tree for my son. That is very poor service, Amazon!

My only regret is that I did not buy the 30 or 80 GB Zune. This device is easy to use, compact, and the software is even easier. The picture quality is amazing for videos.
The only slight negative is the finger pad. It can be a little touchy as your finger needs to be right in the middle in order to make a selection.
