I got my IPOD for Christmas 2 years ago. How cool is it to be able to upload your CD collection .. up to 7500 songs on the 30GB.. onto ONE little IPOD!!?? And never have to mess with CDs and CD cases again!
Frees up your shelves at home (no more CD library!!), and makes long commutes to work in the car much more enjoyable!
I have an IPOD dock that is hooked up to my home stereo as well.
I can't say enough about how great this thing is!
The only drawback so far after 2 years of use- You can't see the touch-wheel in low light or in the dark. It would be helpful if the buttons had a backlight! Oh and yes it scratches easily, so I think it should come with a case or protective skin instead of having to go buy one!
Other than that, great gift!!!

Now don't get me wrong i do insanly love my ipod but you know there is but two downside, the batterie only last's about an hour and a half of continuis use, and if you put to much stuff on it it will slow down a little, other than that it is a great mp3 player.

Ipods are great when they are working. 30 GB was more memory than I'd ever need to take my whole music collection with me and an occasional movie. On the downside, it is was not very customizable, but that was really minor. The major problem I had with it was that it only lasted a year. That is really horrible. I don't know if it's the battery or the hardrive, but either way it's not worth the money to get it repaired.
I'd hope the new Ipods last longer.
My second opinion on the iPod.......2007-12-08
At first I hated iPod (something to do with my first one literally blowing up) But I gave it another chance, and to my surprise, it's been working great. I give the actual product 5 stars, but I loathe iTunes, seeing as how I had to delete all my music from it since I ran out of memory on my HD. Luckily you're able to set it to manual sync, meaning your iPod won't automatically sync the content currently on your iTunes account, or in my case LACK of content. It's inevitable, but I'm gonna have to eventually upload all my albums again. A simple "load content from iPod to iTunes" feature would do wonders for me.

The Basics

Failure to deliver.......2007-12-26
My problem was with the lack of Amazon communication among its employees. I purchased the computer because of a internet special package price for 'cyber monday'. Then the item was shipped to me without the 'package' and I was told that there was no record of any such package and I would have to provide proof of it. This was impossible to do because it was an advertisement on the Amazon website, something that normal people don't download copies of. I returned it to Amazon and found another company that did have an equivalent package and price. Needless to say, I was very upset with Amazon and will hesitate before making any further purchases.

HP 8200 is a good system that works well. One notch down from their HP9040 system, the 8200 uses an AMD chip instead of Intel. The 9040 uses a quad channel while the 8200 uses a dual channel. The 8200 only has an analog output while the 9040 has an HD digital out which would make a difference if you needed to connect your system to an HD monitor or HDTV. Vista takes a little getting use to if your not familiar with it or are very use to WinXP. You will need a transfer cable if you want tranfer your files and setting easily from XP to Vista. Your can transfer files using discs but its a pain. Many of my programs on their factory discs would not install, including my HP 4010 printer. Vista does have an "incompatibility" install program to help with troublesome XP programs that won't autorun. For other programs I went to the product website, (Epson printer), and downloaded drivers and patchs. Vista will ask and sometimes find the needed downloads and patchs. With 3GB the system is fast. The over-the-air TV and Radio tuner work well. The 8200 can be your computer, TV and Radio all in one if that was a consideration, lets say for a dorm room where space is limited. My only complaint is the cheap keyboard and even cheaper mouse that comes with the 8200. I would opt for a upgrade not from HP. Otherwise, quite satisfied. By the way, some tech friends have said I should take out Vista and install WinXP, but in the long run did'nt really see any advantages to going backwards. If you want to do it, there is a link in Help that helps you do it.
Good Powerful Computer... But.......2007-12-15
This is a great starter computer. Its fast, has a dual processor, 500GB of memory, and Vista works well after you install all the updates. When i first turned it on it kept freezing on me and acting weird. I went to the Microsoft website and installed all of the available Vista updates, which thanks to the computer's fast processor and having a fast internet connection only took minutes. After that the performance improved a whole lot. One thing if you have a high resolution monitor... you need to buy a better video card. The one this thing comes with can barely keep up. I bought a GeForce8600GT and it has improved this computer a whole lot. All video content runs so smooth.. I love it! I will definately be getting me a readyboost flash card to take advantage of that feature and sometime in the near future i'll be adding more ram as this baby can accept up to 8GB.
All in all, good computer, but needs some work to make it perfect and as always, Amazon offered a great price and free shipping! Very happy customer here.
Windows VISTA is a Nightmare!.......2007-12-13
I bought this computer from my local Wholesale Club. Got a great deal with monitor included. Brought it home and fired it up. Not wild about look and feel of Vista, but....then installed my wireless network card. After three hours of screwing around with Vista packed computer back in box and returned it. From the reaction of the customer service folks I was far from the first to return a computer because of Vista. I am fairly computer savvy, but could not get card to work consistently. Some sort of weird software issue. Never had a problem with old machine with XP. I have an I-book and am going to go all Apple, it is time to quit allowing Microsoft to sell us ever more expensive, memory hogging patches for their previous mistakes. The computer is nice, if you can get it with XP it is a great deal.

The speed, system memory of 3GB, and performance are great for the price. The only thing I dislike is the CD/DVD Tray. It's very thin and fragile with the touch of cheap quality. I had to return my first one back to Amazon.com because the CD/DVD compartment lid was stuck on the second day. I bought it again because of the price, and performance. Just keep hoping that the DVD tray will work fine this time.

The bag is handsome, well-made, and easy to carry. I like the grab handle. I have a Nikon D-80 and with one additional zoom lens the bag is tight enough to pull then lens cap off as I extricate the camera from the bag. I have removed much of the adjustable Velcro padding from inside the bag and it it still just a tad too tight. Overall I think the bag is a value and as time goes by I think it will loosen up.

Experience teaches one over the years that the first bag one picks for new photo gear is not necessarily the right choice.
Had purchased a new Fujifilm Finepix S6000fd Digital Camera, didn't want to invest in a camera-only case, but wanted a compact and rugged bag that would hold and protect the new camera along with a few accessories to allow for a day's shooting without swearing about the accessory or item one left at home or in the car.
Really like Lowepro's products (and own some, along with Tenba, Tamrac, Domke, etc.), so I visited each manufacturer's site and a couple retailers as well. In the end, purchased the Tamrac 3536 Express 6 Camera Bag, and all I can say is that this a true 5-star item. It holds my camera, filters, xD memory cards, a Sony Quick Charger with 4 AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, additional spare batteries, a Nikon Micro Fiber cleaning cloth, a Nikon lens cleaning pen, a Tamrac Memory & Battery Management Wallet, pens, notebook, the camera manual, spare glasses, small flashlight, an mp3 player and more. Used the cell phone pocket on the side to store my Gerber Suspension Multi-Plier in its original sheath.
At about 1.1 pounds (500 grams) the bag is deceptively light, and has excellent construction and stitching. The padding is first-rate, and the padded inserts are easy to adjust, but do take a few minutes at home to do this in advance. Its shoulder strap is padded and nicely contoured, and the bag has a useful carrying handle that allows for the bag to be picked up without spilling the contents all over the ground. In other words, the designers thought carefully about the photographer before putting it together. To top it off, there's a discrete khaki ultra suede accent panel adding a slight stylish touch to the bag.
Though I had bought this specifically for my own S6000fd, a friend with a larger Canon digital SLR and a medium-range zoom lens tried slipping his camera in the bag, and it went in and back out without any problems. He's now purchasing the same one, for the same reasons that I've listed here.
Hint: If you have a S6000fd, store the camera's standard 'cookie-cutter' lens hood in the reversed position on the lens barrel (see your manual). It slips in and out of the case quite easily.
Additional thought: If your unsure as to whether your camera will fit or not, perhaps it would be wise to remember the old term of RTFM and get your dimensions first.
This is a great bag for carrying a pretty diverse set of equipment, but is perfect for any FujiFilm S6000fd owner who needs just a little more than the standard camera case. It's a true 5-star camera bag.

SLR camera bags are bulky and heavy. I purchased this bag to have a smaller bag for my new camera. This bag is not only smaller, but quite compact. The top design allows for easy access to my camera quickly and easily when I need it most. There are several pockets for storing accessories and other needed supplies. The bag has a top handle as well as shoulder strap.
The cell phone holder and inside pocket are a big snug when camera is packet in bag, but the top zip compartment is roomy for small items. This is a great back for traveling or tooling around town with your camera.

Great Budget System.......2007-12-25
This system works great for what it is, a system under $600. I wanted something that had great sound and base without the huge price tag, I found it in this system. Setup was a breeze. The supplied speaker wire was very small gauge and I upgraded to 16. I did have to modify the back of the tall fronts to accommodate the larger speaker gauge. They don't allow much room at all for any wire larger than the ones supplied. The upgrade is not necessary as the audio with the smaller gauge wire isn't horrible but I wanted a more rugged wire for my wall install.
I picked this system for the fact it has the tall front speakers and frames in my front projection system screen very well.
Some dislikes, The rears are not as adjustable as loud as I would like. They are still very acceptable but I would like to hear the "Surround" more defined.
Also another gripe is as far as I can tell you don't have the option to send the "wireless" to the front channels instead of the rear. I have my equipment rack in the back of the room which meant I STILL had to run tons of wire to the front channel speakers. I would have loved to be able to use the wireless hub up front and avoid this.
Overall I am very pleased with this system. I works great in tandem with my projector and screen setup. Surround from the cable box works great with optical in and HDMI looks awesome. I would recommend this.
Use with high definition DVR with DD 5.1 output.......2007-12-24
Have been using this for a week. As noted wireless surround speakers require wires to the wireless control unit (expected that). My purpose was to use as an upgrade for the speakers in my HDTV with DD 5.1 DVR.
Connected by Optical connection (only one input). Thus, will not be able to add a blu-Ray DVD later (!).
Easy setup. The rear speakers seem to be a little weak when in use with TV but the test function (puts out noise by channel) indicates they are working so this must normal. Sound is OK to good. Having the sound via a digital input adds a lot in itself.
For the money, an easy and noticable upgrade to provide better sound to a High Def TV. Most features seem to be there. Biggest downside is absence of multiple digital inputs so limited to one source with the unit.

The Panasonic SC-PT1050 is the top of the line Panasonic 5.1 Home Theater system this year from Panasonic. It has the wireless subwoofer that the lower models such as the 950 lack. I wanted it to go with my new Panasonic TH-58PZ750U Plasma television as my old Home Theater was silver and looked bad with this sleek piano high-gloss black TV.The SC-PT1050 is a high gloss piano black finish color system and goes great with the new Panasonic plasmas for 2007.The Panasonic TH-58PZ750U Plasma and this new Home Theater are incredible and work great together. The wireless subwoofer and rear speakers all work great with it. By having a wireless subwoofer you can place the subwoofer anywhere withinn 30 feet of the intergrated DVD player allowing you much greater flexibility and space savings when needed. Just remember that a wireless subwoofer will still need to be plugged in to an A/C outlet but that is the only wire/cable that the subwoofer has.The wireless rear speakers are only wired to the slimmed down and trimmed rear receiver which also needs an A/C outlet. Panasonic reduced the size of the rear receiver this year to 1/2 the size of previous years models but improved the sound quality using new technology.The front speakers are huge but if you wall mount them as I did they are much nicer I think at only 24"h x 4"w X 3.5"d.
I used the Panasonic 4.9 foot HDMI cable to connect the Home Theater Main Unit to the Plasma but found I could not play the Home Theater for TV watching but could everything else. I solved that problem by using just the 2 component audio cables(not the 3 video cables though) to supply sound from the TV out component audio to the Home Theater In audio connection and this worked and allowed me to use the Home Theater for TV shows.I can play audio only CDs and audio/visual DVDs with this Home Theater, watch TV,enjoy MP3 and IPOD music or listen to XM,FM or even AM radio. This is a very good and functional Home Theater --just be sure to use Panasonic HDMI cables with it as it seems to work best with them.I was very pleased with this purchase as it gave me everything I wanted and more!!!

I did tons of research on a new HTIB system and got this system with some reservations -- mainly I was worried that the wireless rear speakers might be prone to cut out and not sound very good. But it turns out the wireless rear speakers sound great, as does the wireless subwoofer. I am now thinking about buying one of the less powerful models for my parents for Christmas. That's how satisfied I am with this product.

Adequate Center Channel.......2007-12-19
This center channel speaker is in a plastic case!!! That is my biggest complaint and it is pretty large. I bought this speaker because it was designed to match the floorstanding JBL speakers I bought. It does an adequate job on most dialog although on occasion it can disappear, but I may be able to rectify it with some work on the settings on my receiver. In summary it is an adequate center channel but I was much more impressed with the other JBL speakers in the Venue series.

I needed a center channel speaker to compliment the in-wall speakers in our living room. I had tried a Bose center channel speaker at first but it's tinny sound drove me to distraction. We use the living room for general purpose viewing and listening to music so I didn't need an expensive speaker. But the larger speaker cones give a rich full sound that matches the higher quality in-walls. The design is a bit large but we have a CRT HD set so it is proportionate to the speaker.
All in all we are extremely happy with the quality and style of this speaker. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I'm a little chagrined I waited so long to immerse myself in the world of 5.1 surround sound.
Most websites on the subject will tell you to get all of your speakers from the same brand, so the harmonics are all cousins of each other. Well, with Bose bookshelf speakers, the accompanying surround speakers would have been another grand, so I decided to bottom end with Sony.
These little puppies are weird in that you can't take the mesh covers off to spock the look of the speaker diaphragms, but that's the only weird thing. They ship with the tiniest capellini-sized speaker wire you can imagine, which helps you enjoy your new sound straight out of the box until you can get some more decent sized wire.
For a starter kit, these are thoroughly sufficient, plus, they're sleek and unobtrusive. If you haven't experienced surround sound anywhere but the theaters, get these babies and rent Apocalypse Now, or any of the Bourne movies. (Or better yet, watch the dust storm episode from the first season of Carnivale--you'll quite literally be blown away.)
Also, you'll need a digital optical cable from your DVD player to your receiver; otherwise the Dolby surround won't work.

I paired these with a set of SSB-1000 Bookshelf speakers.
They are a great set to complete for 5.0 surround, i would suggest a separate sub because i low end on the bookshelf speakers or this set.
Center is clear and crisp, rears are mid-small and do the job just fine.

It looks nice and works ok. The speakers do not get as loud as I would like but they are ok. Paired up with a Yamaha HTR-6030BL. The satellite speakers fit nicely on the cheap black speaker metal stands at Wally world for 29.00.

Have owned 2 of these for about a year now and we are extremely happy. No complaints whatsoever. Most convenient feature for us is the network capability that allows any pc within the network to access the unit for any of the functions. Buy it ...you won't regret it.
MFC-8820DN is better.......2007-12-22
I highly recommend the MFC-8820DN instead of this model. It's about a hundred $$ more and it includes automatic duplexing (that's the 'D' in the model #) and it includes a network interface (that's the 'N' in the model #). The 8xxx models use high capacity cartridges which means about seventy bucks for > 6000 pages instead of fifty bucks for about 2000 pages for the 7xxx models. Think about it. After just a couple toner cartridges you'll have paid for the better machine!
I didn't buy mine on Amazon as they don't sell that model. I don't know why - it's much better IMHO.
Practically perfect match for Mac OSX Leopard!.......2007-12-15
(The following is a review I've posted for the Brother MFC-7420, this unit's 'little brother', which is basically the same unit but without networking capability...it costs about $40 less.)
Finding multi-function units that are compatible with Apple is not easy. I first bought a Canon MF-4150 (about $250). Gorgeous unit, everything worked great until I tried to scan...no luck, no matter what I tried. Finally contacted Canon customer service, and they responded that Canon machines don't support scanning on Mac. I took it back (thank goodness for Staples' return policy...no questions asked, they just exchanged it for my next choice, a Samsung SCX-4725FN). Again, all the right features, but again, no luck getting it to scan. So last week, I exchanged the Samsung for a Brother MFC-7420. Seems Brother takes great pride in their support of Apple, according to another reviewer. (Again, awesome customer service from Staples on the return.) Got it home and spent 2 hours trying to get everything hooked up but NO SCANNER. After 40 minutes on the phone with Brother tech support, I learned that it does indeed support Leopard 10.5, but needs a bit of tweaking, accessed by the tiny little icon that loads at the very top of the monitor to the left of the clock. Once I clicked on that, a whole new world of scanning opened up. Very sad that this bit of information isn't anywhere in the manual, setup brochure, or disk. But once tech support told us what to do, the machine runs like a champ. Admittedly, I haven't used it much yet, but I am absolutely thrilled with this unit. You can scan directly into an e-mail, or into a folder, or onto your desktop. Scan is very flexible. Great Automatic Document Feeder, and flatbed scanner (ANY printer you buy must have a flatbed scanner if you plan to scan books, checks, photos, receipts or anything else, other than standard-sized paper, because without a flatbed scanner your original must be fed through the document feeder.)
Anyway, the Brother manual is written extremely clearly, with great diagrams and flow charts, and not full of typos like the Samsung manual was. There are higher levels of instruction that you must access from the CD-ROM, but you can get all the basics just by reading the manual, and lots of what you'll be doing is intuitive. Features, quality, dimensions and footprint are great. Brother has been making faxes for seems like centuries, and they're wonderful units. I'm only sorry that I didn't just go with this unit originally. A note on fax machines in this category: it seems (to me anyway) hard to find a multi-purpose unit with fax that will co-exist with an external answering machine. With most of these units, you have to plug the answering machine directly into the unit, or they 'fight' over which one answers the phone. I found an almost perfect solution with this one: you set its fax machine to 'manual' (it won't answer when the phone rings) and then if you answer your phone and hear it's a fax, you just type *51 on your phone's keypad and it activates the fax machine. It works like a charm...only down side is that you can't get a fax if you're not home to manually answer the phone first, so this option isn't for those who get many faxes. This machine has a 'brother' unit which I think is identical other than it is dark gray in color and that it can be networked; It's about $40 more.
If I have any problems down the road with this one, I'll update this review, but I have a feeling I'm going to be thrilled with it. If you've tried to find a Mac-compatible printer (laser or inkjet) you know what I've gone through...but for me, at least, it appears my search is over. Thank you Brother, and thank you Staples! (no offense to Amazon, but I spend enough money there already to not feel guilty).

We are 6 people in a small office setting. We use it as a network printer & office fax and scanning. It works great we have had it for 1 month and havent had any issues.It was easy to set up and easy to use. We have printed 3000 pages in one month and it has great clarity of copies. I would reccomend it, especially of its price. This is the same unit they use at kinkos--so i am sure they have done thier homework. I might buy another unit.

We bought the Brother 7820N MFC in late, 2006. It was an excellently priced MFC (laser) for what you get. It worked wonderfully for about 8 months. We didn't print super heavy on it (I would guess 50 pages per month or so) Then, it stopped working altogether. It just would not print. Luckily, we had purchased the 3 year warranty from Staples for $75.00 or $99.00 (can't remember). I called Staples and they told me that since I was within the first 12 months, I needed to call Brother for the warranty. I called brother, which was very hard to do, to actually get through and talk to a person. The tech rep seemed like he was having a terrible day because he seemed like my call of just wanting to know how to maybe try and fix or troubleshoot the printer set him off. It is hard to troubleshoot on the phone with someone who acts as if the last thing they feel like doing is helping you. None of the troubleshooting worked. It took them several months to actually ship us a new machine. When we got the new machine it didn't even power up. My wife and I were laughing at the absurdity of it, even though it was agrevating, as we had spent $400 on this machine (after adding in the extended warranty). By the time we had gotten the second machine that didn't work, it was past the 12 month period. So now we called staples and they apologized. They sent us a new machine which we received about a month ago. It does work, but every time it prints, it makes grinding noises on the left side toward the back. It will only print if we hold in or bang on the side of the machine and then the grind stops and it prints. Again, we are laughing at the seemingly cheap construction.
Now, since this is our third machine, Brother won't do anything and staples will not replace the machine either. Staples will give us a credit toward another printer for $170.00. At least they are doing SOMETHING, however, we paid $400.00 for a printer for 8 months of use. It could be worse, but we will definately NOT be buying another BROTHER. At least we get the 170.00 from staples. We are going to try an HP.
The reason we bought this printer was due to the excellent reviews. I have become more suspicious of the online reviews of products. I think it is fishy that there are so many excellent reviews of this product and yet 3 of our models ended up not working (granted, the first one DID last for 8 months and worked great). I think that a lot of the reviews come from the company themselves, and I would be willing to bet that many employees are encouraged to get on the site and build the reviews up. I only say that because this is the first time I have ever given a reciew of a product. People are busy and I find it a little hard to believe that so many people get online and post how wonderful their brother printer is. I can understand when people have bad experiences (like me) that they might get on to post a review.
I think it probably boils down to (to a great extent) that you get what you pay for. Brother appeals to low initial cost consumers, without much regard for long term quality, reliability, durability, customer service. I once heard someone say that when trying to decide on which product/ service to purchase, they never go with the lowest bid because they can't afford to. That seems the case here too.

Great Value And impressive value!.......2007-12-14
I own a Htib with tiny satalite speakers and a big subwoofer. I really liked the features and looks of my home theater system but I must admit that it was a bit of a strain listening to conversations on broadcasts and dvds. Rather than start from scratch I replaced my center speaker with this and the left and right speakers with the sony ssf-5000 floor speakers.
Now its amazing the how great movies and broadcast are with this speaker especially since I paired it with the floor speakers!
I was afraid it wouldn't be good quality or poor audio since I didn't audition it before buying, but I am very pleased and since owning I've compared center speakers at best buy and circuit city and see how this stacks up well in size and craftmenship to speakers that cost alot more money.

Sony has value for the buck when it comes to their entry level speakers.
I started with the Onkyo TX-SR 705 to put together a nice Surround Sound System, then added the Sony SB3000 front - SB1000 rear, SA-W2500 Sub and the SSC-N5000 and have a nice system for an apartment.
The system is more than I need but it does sound nice and I didn`t break the bank, I would not hesitate to reccomend the SB1000 for front speakers for those on a tight budget as they were great with a 10 year old RCA surround sound amp I replaced.
All of the Sony speakers in this series are a bargain for those in apartments where ... really using ... more expensive speakers could get you evicted save the extra bucks for a box of Dots to eat with your movie!

CLEAR AND CRISP.......2007-11-12
The Sony SSC-N5000 center channel speaker (which I mounted on top of my television with two strips of Velcro) is definitely loud and clear enough to do its main job, which is to deliver dialogue. No screaming highs and no thunderous bass, but that's not what this speaker is for. The frequency response is good, though, and overall this is a very nice speaker. Well-constructed and heavy. This speaker matches all the other Sony speakers in my system. I hope this review helps you.

This kit is a must if you are adding an HDTV. I only used one of the HDMI cables, but the other will be handy if I add an HD DVR later. All of the cables are top quality.

I purchased this cable kit along with my Samsung 50" Plasma. The kit was very straight forward and I had everything I needed to get up and running. I was able to hook up my cable box and DVD player with each using one of the HDMI cables in the kit. I then hooked up my DVR with the component and audio cables. Just like that, I was done. I'm not too sure about the screen cleaner, but I guess it works fine. It got the finger prints from the installation off of my plasma. I guess time will tell how valuable it really is...
I would also like to mention that these cables seem to be very good quality. I have another HDMI cable from before that is very cheap looking/feeling compared to the ones in this kit. It is like hard plastic or something. These ones have a fabric like braided material on the outside. They almost look like the really high-end cables I saw at the local hi-fi store for hundreds of dollars. This kit is definitely a no brainer!

Hallelujah! Finally, someone with quality cables figured out how to make
HDMI installation easy. I recently installed my second plasma TV, in our
upstairs bonus room. The first had gone up about a year ago. With the first one, I thought I had everything I needed when I brought the TV home. OHHHH NOOOOOO! Three trips to Radio Shack and Best Buy later, (and another couple hundred bucks!) I finally had all the different cables and pieces I needed to get the sound, picture and all pieces hooked up and working together.
This time, I saw this kit on Amazon before we purchased the TV. We ordered it. The experience couldn¹t have been much different. BEFORE we had the TV, I had all the pieces I needed on hand to put it together. Two HDMI cables! Yes! And the CV, and the audio. They even throw in a little bottle of screen cleaner. So when the TV arrived, we were able to pop in the new Ratatouille DVD right off the bat and the kids (and I) were
