Customer Reviews:
4 stars but only because of the price.......2007-12-20
I needed a new cd changer, so bought this one based on other reviews. It's not bad, and I trust Sony quality, but the sound is just not good enough. To get sufficient bass you have to turn the volume up way too high. I had to ditch the speakers and run it through a 3 pc. speaker system to get satisfactory sound quality.
BUT, for the price it's certainly all you can expect.
False Advertising!.......2007-12-14
This product was shown with a tape player in it but when I received the product and unpacked it, there was no tape player in the unit. Apparently this was the North American Version with no tape player. I kept it anyway because it served my purposes and I didn't want the hassle of packing it up and returning it. However, I will not buy another product from your sight.
Falling in Love.......2007-12-03
We got the Sony yesterday for Christmas, and unpacked it right away. It is bigger than we expected, and we had to rearrange part of our living room to accommodate the player. It really is wonderful. The sound is surprising for a unit that sells in this price range. We like chamber music and we got it sounding right.
I read on some of the reviews posted here that the disc changer is loud. Give me a break. The changer does what it has to do without interfering. If your ears are so sensitive or your expectations so pure that the sound of a disc moving in a machine is going to upset your sensibilities then I don't know what you might really want. It's a bargain.
Not as advertised.......2007-12-02
My daughter loves music and as such is very particular in the features she wants. She has an extensive music collection which includes some cassettes and she wanted a system with a sub-woofer. Despite what the technical specs say, this system has neither. I thought it would be a perfect gift as most systems with subwoofers are much more powerfull than she needs (they are also much more expensive) and was very disappointed with what I received. I was also unimpressed with Amazon's lack of interest in resolving the situation. I have returned the unit and will seek another system elsewhere.
Sounds good.......2007-12-02
Nice little stereo. The CD changer is a little slow and noisy, but that is not unusual. I haven't tried it with MP3's yet. The sound, volume, and controls are nice. The included antennas seem to pick up distant stations well. That is important for country-dwellers like me.

ipod ready.......2007-12-11
I got this unit off Sam's auction site for $68 (that's with shipping!). It's awesome. I just use my USB cable that came with my iPod to plug and play. It also charges my iPod while plugged in. It's so sleek. The only caveat (and not a problem necessarily) is that the speakers are more silver in color than black. This picture makes them look smoky gray, which they are NOT.
Vaporware.......2007-12-07
I bought this product because it claimed to be "iPod dock ready." Even Phillips cannot tell me where I can buy the DC276 dock. This has been a waste of time and money, since the return period ran out while I was searching for the dock.
only one problem.......2007-12-06
very nice mini-stereo.great sound, lots of power,no distortion at high
volume.nice selection of preset equalizer settings for different types of
music [or spoken].love the convenience of the small, light remote.
unit is easy to put together and mount.looks great, and slim design
takes up little space.
lots of presets saves time tuning for favorite stations.
one problem however: on some AM stations volume will mysteriously cut
way down, all of a sudden- and you have to find a solution.
toggling mute won't work.adjusting volume won't resolve it. switching to another preset, then back, works-
but only briefly.moving tuner a little works the same[only
helps temporarily].
best solution I've found;on bad stations move tuner a couple of
moves [left or right] then back two moves to preset position.
that usually resolves problem permanently-untill next time you visit
that station.
I bought two, neither one of them worked well........2007-12-03
I own a solan and wanted to mount these on the wall for the massage therapist. The first one lit up and looked great but no sound, what good is a stereo with no sound? I had to send it back. The second one sounds good but the CD door keeps opening and will not stay shut. What good is it going to do me if someone is listening to therapeutic music then it suddenly stops becuase the CD door opens and stops playing. Good luck!
Amazon electronics suck. If something dosen't work right you should get a full refund, I had to pay for the shipping to have it returned. Lessen learned, always buy electronics from a local store so you can return it without paying for shipping. UPS has $30.00 I have nothing.
Amazing sound quality out of such a tiny package!.......2007-11-30
Ordered this to mount in my living room for an easy music setup. Have yet to experience any problems! The fact that this came with a USB and a line-in port are amazing! Add to that MP3 capability and you have an endless amount of listening time! Unit is simple to mount setup, remote is easy to use and sound quality is amazing. Mind you, this isn't some state of the art audiophile setup, but as an audiophile looking for a simple solution, you can't beat this!
It was so so great, that I actually bought another one to hang in my garage!

Great lil system........2007-12-02
I bought this for my mom and she loves it. It sounds really clear and I love the fact that it is not that big. Great buy. I would recommend it.
Mini Stereo.......2007-11-26
Great little Stereo, 50amp compact stereo works great. Volume, #1 to 30, I run on #14 its by my computer desk. We live in the Missouri Ozarks so AM radio weak, close stations clear, Music, half volume sounds real good, I'am 70years young, Bass Boast helps. Well pleased with Stereo, Price, Size,
Great Sixty Dollar Sound System.......2007-08-04
I was looking for a radio-CD-cassette player for the bedroom, to supplement the standard radio now in use. I was not looking for something expensive but just to play some of my tapes and CDs before bedtime. I hesitated about buying this system after the one reviewer said the volume was weak.
I received the unit today and set it up. It is just wonderful. The volume goes as loud as I would want. But then I'm nearly age 60 so maybe I don't need the volume the kids today would want.
The sound from this unit is great, I rated it five stars because for the price it is unmatched. The AM reception is quite weak but the FM is strong. Tape cassettes and CDs play quite nicely.
If this were a movie review, it would be Thumbs Up!
CUTE==BUT POOR VOLUME .............2006-03-04
IT'S A NICE LOOKING SIZE SYSTEM GREAT FOR A SMALL AREA. BUT I WASN'T TO HAPPY WITH THE AMOUNT OF VOLUME....

Customer Reviews:
Great product.......2007-10-23
I love this shelf system. It added modern look to my family room. The fact that the top is not black did not bother me cause the mirror design alowed me to see different dimentions, and reflect the colors of the room, for example I have an light espresso color wall against it and it is reflected on my philips unit which makes it blend-in perfectly in any room. The sound is clear and crisp. I placed the subwoofer on the floor, under the lowest self, this way I get all the BASS in an invisible way. I love it. After all if I wanted a louder "professional party sound" I have to get one of those huge speakers and other huge equipment.
The romote is extremely helful and has a sleek look. I was also able to buy the i-pod dock online. In all I think it was the best choice i made eventhough I bought it for $10 more than Amazon price which i could have saved.
A Little Disappointed.......2007-10-20
First, mine didn't include an Ipod cradle.
Second, there was no auxilary port so that you could plug another device into the system, which should be a standard feature on all stereo systems of this scale. Very disappointing.
The sub woofer was too big for the space where I had plan to put it.
Finally, though the product photo shows the display area as black, the area is actually is a mirror silver, which is disappointing as well.
Not as advertised, underpowered, but OK sound quality........2007-09-18
The system has acceptable sound quality, and good looks. However, as the other reviewer correctly stated, it does NOT come with an iPod cradle. Instead, you simply have the *option* of purchasing a separate iPod cradle accessory.
The system is also underpowered; it is quieter than an acoustic piano.
not as advertised.......2007-09-13
This system sounds and looks great, but it does NOT come with an iPod cradle!! On the box it specifically states that the iPod cradle must be purchased separately...although I have not been able to find it yet on Amazon or any other website!

Key technology Features and Supported FOrmats:
192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD.
DVD-Audio: Prepare for the concert of a lifetime! 5.1 channel DVD-Audio combines multichannel high-resolution audio with video, song lyrics and more. While discs that carry this logo must be played back in DVD-A equipped machines to unleash their full potential, many are compatible with conventional DVD-Video players as well.
JPG: JPG is a standard image format used in today's digital cameras and personal computers. DVD players that carry this logo are able to read CD-R/RWs that contain JPG image information and display slide shows on your television (such as recent vacations, family photos, etc.).
RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo's exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What's more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo's RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can't be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music.
Plays WMA: This audio compression format from Microsoft® allows you to reduce the size of your audio files for storage on your computer's hard drive or portable devices. This allows you to store many more songs than with uncompressed CD audio, using the same amount of disc space or memory. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in WMA format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording.
CD Video: This format, known as Video-CD (VCD), is commonly used for karaoke, to produce home movies, and slideshows, with menus and other special on-screen graphics.
MP3 Playback: This audio format achieves about a 10:1 compression over conventional CD audio. What does this mean? You can store many more songs using the same amount of space. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in MP3 format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording.
SACD: Are you ready for a brand new music listening experience? 5.1 channel Super Audio CD represents the best music has to offer. Direct Stream Digital recording technology is a drastic improvement over Compact Disc, both in technology and sound quality. Thanks to multichannel sound, it doesn't just appear as if the musicians are playing in your living room. It sounds as if you're transported from your living room into the original performance space.
WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology): Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That's the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today's digital age, you'll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path - perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.
XM Ready: The XM "Connect-and-Play," is a revolutionary technology platform designed to integrate XM into virtually any home or portable consumer electronics entertainment device. By matching XM Ready® audio systems with a simple, elegant antenna/receiver, getting XM becomes even easier for home audio listeners.
DTS Surround: DTS® is a discrete 5.1 channel audio format for movies and music. Unlike its Dolby® Digital counterpart, DTS uses less compression for its audio encoding.
Dolby Digital / Pro-Logic II: Dolby Digital is a discrete 5.1 channel audio format for movies and music. Pro-Logic II is the latest improvement on the original Pro-Logic standard. Pro-Logic II provides a full-range signal to the five main channels, in addition to a subwoofer channel. This creates a realistic surround environment from a two-channel source, such as CD, Tape, FM Radio, etc.
VLSC: Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can't remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s!
Customer Reviews:
Amazing bang for the buck.......2007-11-29
Mainly echo-ing other reviews..for the price the sound quality of this unit is phenomenal . Like other Onkyo products I have bought the sound quality for the low to mid price range is hard to beat .
For the price you get a decent pair of mini-bookshelf speakers too . The sound is clean and undistorted with a decent bass response from the speakers (for their size) ..but you'll need a subwoofer if you want to go bass heavy / really crank it . 30W per channel is not going to shake the house either but it's plenty of power to listen to music loudly . And it plays mp3 discs and SACD .
In the end I decided to upgrade the speakers and move the included pair into my TV home theater set up . I got a pair of 400 dollar bookshelf speakers (higher price than the total original unit) which are much better quality (bi-wired etc ) and the sound quality took another jump up allowing me to hear a surprisingly good soundstage for both cds and mp3s .
Note: I fed my mp3s either from cd or from a computer/wireless device using lossless (FLAC) streaming and the unit's digital optical in ... hence was feeding in a high quality digital signal . Got very good sound quality (as good as the quality/bitrarte of the source mp3's would allow) . If you connect an Ipod via the optional analog Onkyo connector the sound quality of the mp3s is affected by the quality of the digital to analog converter of the Ipod itself . In my case 2nd generation Ipod = horrible analog output quality , hence the sound quality of the Ipod is not very good . But that is the case no matter which receiver unit I connect my Ipod to .
Summary
You're not going to get audiophile quality for under 400 bucks but this unit is good enough to attach some decent/higher quality speakers .
Great Value for the Price!.......2007-10-11
I bought this product after spending a long time reviewing reviews :-).
Initially I was thinking about buying a home theater system with a high end receiver but as my search continued and I got input from some really audio savvy coworkers, I settled on the Onkyo Shelf System.
I have to say I am really pleased with the product. I have had the product for almost 6 months.
It really has the most clear sound you could ever imagine for a product at this price.
I mainly listen to classical music nowadays. In fact, the sound on Onkyo was so good that when I watched a live concert of Beethoven's piano concerto it did not sound that much better. Should I say more!
This is a great choice if you want to spend[...] It fills my whole home with sound that I have never had to go more than about 30% of the full volume.
Stellar Product - Very Pleased.......2007-10-09
I live in a smallish townhome and wanted a stereo for the two story family room. I was replacing a Bose Wave radio C.D. which I put in the bedroom, so I needed something small but that would produce great sound. I also prefer a lot of bass when I listen. In addition, I have an XM satellite subscription already. I rarely use it in the car and will transfer to this new unit. It is ready to go - All you need is a separate antenna - not even separate tuner. I ordered an antenna that I have not gotten as yet.
For the price, I think this is a great system - Attractive, easy to set up so far (even for someone electronically challenged as myself). I placed the speakers on a lowish shelf so I only really see the attractive receiver - as the instructions read - this enhances the bass sound and it is true. I just saw Bruce Springsteen live two nights ago and am playing the new "Magic" C.D. which really kicks a--. It sounds great on this system - richer and fuller than the Bose and about $150 bucks less. I am a happy camper with this.
Finally, the fact that it can also double as a home theater and is compatible with so many other media and addons is also great. I am not using it that way , but, I might want to. Enjoy.
Good little system, Better with a subwoofer.......2007-09-29
I bought this little system because of the price and I didn't have a lot of space. The sound quality is good. The system is set up to expand to a full five speaker system. I added an powered external subwoofer which heled with the bass. A good system for the price. I would have given the system five stars if a subwoofer would have been included.
Small Footprint, Big Sound.......2007-09-02
This small system is powerful yet fits nicely on a shelf. We've moved from a large house to a small rowhouse in DC, so had to find something to fit our new space. This system has great sound; I bought a Yamaha subwoofer to go along with it, to bring out the bass and lows. Highly recommended.

Good sound in a small, convenient package.......2007-10-07
If you want a small system to listen to your ipod on, but like me, fell that many of the docking/speaker systems lack "punch", this is the product for you. Compact and lightweight, you can take it anywhere you can find a power outlet. The sound is very good with surprisingly good bass, the remote works well, I've never had a problem charging the ipod through the dock, unlike another reviewer, and if everything's set up properly - which is not hard to do - I fail to see how that could happen. This is an excellent product for the price.
Love It!.......2007-08-09
This system provides great clear sound, good base, clear CD playing, clear sound from ipod, and clear sound from the radio. The remote controls all of these functions but does not change the tuning on the radio. It also does not let you scroll on your ipod, you can only play, pause, stop and skip from song to song. It also charges your ipod which I thought was a great function.

The product did not charge the ipod nor did remote function keys operate ipod as specified.

Big sound for any room in the house with Sony's LBT-ZX6 Mini Hi-Fi System! With 560 Watts, split between 2 channels1, the LBT-ZX6 allows you to set the night to music, or entertain your guests while you reminisce about the good old days. The LBT-ZX6 features a 3-way speaker design as well as Sony's Variable Attenuation Control Design (VACS) circuitry system, which provides low midrange and bass distortion when listening at high volumes. A 5 disc changer allows you to rotate your 5 favorite CDs of the moment while the 10 Preset EQ with 2 Band Direct AV EQ lets you create the perfect acoustic environment for your listening pleasure. Other features include a color fluorescent display for function illumination and a Remote Commander remote control for convenient unit operation. And in case you still fancy a few of your old tapes, the LBT-ZX6 features dual Full Logic cassette decks.
Amazon.com Product Description
Proving that a stereo doesn't have to be big to deliver a huge sound, the Sony LBT-ZX6 splits 560 watts of power between two channels, making it the perfect party system for space-challenged rooms. The main unit comes with such components as a five-disc CD changer, a dual-well cassette deck, a five-band spectrum analyzer, and an AM/FM tuner, yet checks in at a mere 14.25 by 17.2 by 18.3 inches (W x H x D). Thanks to the narrower-than-usual housing, you can easily fit this system on a bookshelf or tabletop rather than carving out space in an entertainment console.
More importantly, the components stand ready for nearly any audio challenge. The five-disc CD changer--which supports CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3-CD formats--is a must for entertaining, as its play exchange system keeps the music flowing nonstop even while you're swapping discs. The playback modes, meanwhile, range from track programming to shuffle play to repeat play, giving you plenty of listening options. Owners who still fancy their '80s cassette tapes will dig the full-logic cassette deck, which not only plays such nuggets as Air Supply's greatest hits but also records from both the radio and CD. And thanks to the CD synchro function, you can rest assured that your cassette recordings will start at the precise moment the CD starts to play. No more 15-second stretches of silence at the beginning of your home-recorded tapes.
The spectrum analyzer is another party pleaser, as it visually interprets your music on its five-band display. Add in the LBT-ZX6's 10 preset equalizer settings and two-band direct AV equalizer and you have a stereo that adjusts to virtually any acoustic environment. Plus, the stereo offers a set of front A/V inputs for connecting to a video game system. By itself, that's a unique feature for a mini system, but it's particularly cool because of the Game Sync function, which lets gamers mix any audio source into the video game soundtrack. Feel like playing Resident Evil with a little Massive Attack in the background? Go for it.
Audio-wise, the LBT-ZX6 outputs your music through a pair of three-way bass-reflex speakers, each of which includes a 6.75-inch woofer, 6.75-inch midrange, and 1-inch horn tweeter. The speakers deliver pleasing full-range sound, especially when taking into account Sony's Variable Attenuation Control Design, which minimizes the midrange and bass distortion when you're listening at high volumes. Other sound enhancements range from an X-Groove bass enhancement function to simulated surround sound.
Finally, the system includes such features as a color fluorescent display, a mic input with its own volume control, a power save mode, and a versatile remote control. Plus, the entire system is backed by a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box
LBT-ZX6 main unit, two full-range speakers, speaker cables, FM antenna, AM loop antenna, remote control, user's manual.

This review is for AMAZON, not the stereo.......2007-10-04
I'm writing this as I'm pretty upset with Amazon's way of displaying this item's price - $399 after $100 off. They make it seem that MSRP is $499. Well, it's not. The MSRP is $399, and all my local stores sell it for less than what I paid here - even after local tax. I know it's a little bit of my fault as well for not doing my home work, but still what Amazon did was very misleading. Here's an idea - next time why not advertise it as $399 after $99,601.00 off.
Anyway, I suggest ya'll look at your local stores first when you're considering this item
First New Stereo in 16 Years.......2007-09-12
I bought this to replace my old Panasonic stereo that I had for 16 years. Apparently, the amp on the Panasonic died because the speakers began to get all crackly and distorted. Originally suspecting my speakers were going bad, I swapped out the speakers and cords with good ones from my home theatre system ... those were crackling too. So, obviously it was a problem with the unit, not the speakers. Okay, after 16 years of service, time to get a new stereo.
I tested out the LBT-ZX6 at the store before purchasing from Amazon. Taking my trusty Jane's Addiction "Nothing's Shocking" CD to play is always a good test - blast "Ocean Size" and see how it sounds. My girlfriend was a little embarrassed when the drums kicked in. Heh, heh. Good sign!
The sound quality is really excellent. And it goes way past 11! (In fact, it is roaring at about 15 or 16 and I think the volume control may go up past 20.) The speakers are big, heavy, and having a midrange-woofer in addition to the lowend-woofer really gives the sound a rich dynamic. The tweeters are very crystalline too. Not shrill and tinny. Very sharp and clear. Indeed, the 3-way speakers are far superior to traditional 2-way woofer and tweeter speakers. The best thing about them is that the clarity is maintained - even at ear-bleeding high volume, you don't hear distortion or feedback. Quite stunning. When I got mine home, I made sure to immediately pull out the wirecutters and solder to extend the speaker wires so I could arrange them in opposite-corners of the bedroom. I've done that with every stereo I've owned since I was 14 years old. Adds so much more to the richness of the sound when your room is drowning in it from 2 directions. Lovely.
The stereo has a clock and a sleep-timer (meaning you can set a time for it to turn off automatically in 10-minute intervals up to 100-minutes) and the ability to wake-to-music (in other words, your LBT-ZX6 can become an alarm-clock). All very cool features lacking on my old Panasonic.
The capacity to play MP3 discs was a huge selling point for me on the Sony. I would love it if someone would make a stereo that plays MP3s from a DVD-R. As far as I know, no such stereo exists yet. So, you can not play MP3s from a DVD-R or DVD-RW. But the LBT-ZX6 will play standard audio CD-R, and MP3s from a CD-R or CD-RW with no problems. Even with it's great dynamic range, the MP3s don't show that irritating compression artifacting, even when encoded at 128Kbps. Sounds pretty good. I'm sure hardcore audiophiles will still hate the MP3 compression, but for mortal ears, it sounds stellar. I have also wired my LBT-ZX6 into my computer with normal RCA cables, so I can play my library of 5000 MP3s out of it through iTunes. Again, the sound quality is excellent. If you are going to do that, just remember to be careful with your EQ settings since the iTunes EQ combined with the EQ in the LBT-ZX6 could give you some too-hot results in some frequencies.
Speaking of the EQ, I miss the manual 5-band EQ on my old Panasonic. The LBT-ZX6 has a digital 3-band EQ. Yeah. Digital. So you have to enter into this goofy LED menu-system to change your EQ and you only have 3-bands - Low, Mid, High. Sorry, but a 3-band EQ isn't really much of an EQ. Give me 5 manual sliders with real Hz-kHz range and I'm much happier. But, on the bright side, you can program the 3-band EQ and it will store your settings. Plus, to "play Devil's advocate" and defend the Sony - it does have vastly superior sound-quality compared to my old Panasonic, even with a 3-band EQ instead of a 5-band.
The LBT-ZX6 has lots of "flashy" LED lightshow features that most new stereos have. I hate that junk. Why on Earth do engineers insist on inserting such superfluous "features" in stereos these days? I am putting the stereo in my bedroom, not a freaking nightclub. I don't need some ridiculous lightshow in my stereo; I just want good sound quality and a reliable system that lasts another 16 years. Thankfully, you can turn off all the stupid psychedelic "lightshow" features and the system will function like a normal, unobtrusive stereo.
The remote is lame. One thing I loved about my Panasonic was that there was a numerical keypad on it. Hence, if I was on CD number 1 and wanted to listen to track 9 on CD number 4, all I would do is hit the "Disc" and "4" and "9" buttons. The LBT-ZX6 remote only has "Disc Skip" and "Track Skip" buttons, no numerical keypad. Therefore, if I am on CD number 1 and wanted to listen to track 9 on CD number 4, I have to hit "Disc Skip" 3 times and then hit "Track Skip" 9 times. Much more clunky and awkward. I go from 3 button presses on my Panasonic to 12 button presses on the Sony. This is not a reason to not buy the Sony. It's a great-sounding system and that's what matters most. This complaint is simply an ease-of-use and functionality annoyance.
The 5-disc CD player design on my Panasonic was fantastic. It was a top-loading turntable system with a smoke-grey lid, like an old vinyl record turntable. I haven't seen a CD player like that in at least 12 years. Even when they were being made, they were really rare. They are a fantastic design, since you can visibly see and remove any of the 4 discs in the tray while one CD is playing. The Sony LBT-ZX6 has a 5-disc tray-loading design, like 99% of the other stereos on the market. This means you can only see 2 or 3 of the discs while one is playing. Not as elegant. Less convenient. Again, I can't cite this as a reason to not buy the system, since most every other stereo on the market forces consumers to deal with the same inconvenience.
Although I pointed out a number of negative things, I really think this is a great system for the money and I'm happy I decided on it over any competing systems. My Panasonic cost about $400 all those years ago. This Sony is $50 cheaper and far better in terms of sound-quality. Reliability and sound-quality are all that really matter. I can live with small functionality misgivings like the tray-loading and the weak remote control if it sounds great and lasts a long time. Overall, I can't get over the fact that this system was only $350. Pretty amazing. Seeing the huge box, the UPS delivery guy assumed it was $1000 system. If this stereo lasts as long as my Panasonic did, it's certainly going to be a fantastic investment.
OUTSTANDING VALUE.......2007-09-06
After agonizing for months over which shelf system to purchase, I am quite pleased with this. I wanted something that could play classical, jazz, reggae and Afro-Cuban. This provides good sound and rhythm across the board. It has an equalizer with a jazz setting that does nicely with classical as well.
There are specific reggae, salsa & samba settings. Ernesto Lecuono rhumbas sound fine on the latter.
The speakers are powerful enough to rock the casbah and maintain sound clarity at the higher volumes. I seldom push it past two thirds of its capability.
I'm not an audiophile, merely a music lover. Can't believe how satisfied I am at so low a price and I'm not easily pleased. I wrote this review to save others the months of indecision I experienced.
Love it!!!!!.......2007-05-23
I have been eyeing this stero at Best Buy for a while now and Final was able to get it. This thing is a monster in size and power. My current stero was a JVC 500W, I had that for 2 years and it was a great system, But I wanted to get a new stereo with more power. I love strong bass and this stereo has plenty of it. It handles very very good, The sound does not get distored when On high volumes.
I like that it has a 5 cd try rather than the common 3 cd tray. Plays MP3 cds. U can connect a Microphone to it, I connected my pc to it so i can listen to my music and watch tv and movies with 560Ws of power!!
However I do wish the main unit was a bit smaller, Its gives the impression that it's a powerful system. I had to take it out of its Box and put it in my car lol.
Overall I love love this system!!!! Its well worth its price. + Sony is a great company and their products last a long time. My sister had a Sony stero for a good 6 or 7 years. BUY THIS STEREO
PS- To Eric Muss-Barnes , I LUV THE LIGHT SHOW lol Adds a nice touch to it. hmm Lights on the speakers would be kool......
Can't beat the quality and the price.......2006-09-12
I looked at a lot of other stereo systems befor I bought this one, and I must say that I am very glad that I desided this isthe one to buy, it is great. This stereo has all of the features that I wanted, and not a bad style either, if you want a good stereo at not a bad price this sony is for you!.

Good micro system with one flaw........2007-12-01
Great looking system and it sounds great too. The DVD player doesn't work at all. Even with new DVD's they skip every 20 seconds. I loved the sound and the look, but I had to return it because of the DVD player. I would give the amp and speakers 5 stars and the DVD player 1 star.
Buy it if you can find it!.......2007-05-09
I bought this system because it was almost the only bookshelf system I could find that actually fit on a bookshelf. I thought for $99 the sound would be just so-so at best, but it sounded OK in the store, so I took it home.
Wow! At home I was blown away by the sound: clear, crisp vocals, full, rich bass. Seriously, it sounds almost as good as my $2000 main stereo system.
A few minor quibbles:
- As a part-time sound tech, I like to fiddle with the bass and treble controls. There aren't any. There are 4 preset EQs: Classic, Jazz, Pop, and Rock. There's no information on what these settings actually do, but Classic seems to be a flat EQ, and the other three have varying levels of bass boost. There is also "Dynamic Bass Boost", which is totally worthless, giving a distorted, boomy sound.
- My remote works for CD functions, but not for radio functions.
Anyway, I can't believe it's possible to get this good sound so cheaply. And it looks nice on the shelf!
You can get this at other places for $99.00. Search on google........2007-03-29
This item is overpriced here. Search online and you will find it cheaper at BestBu for $99.00.
