I am the owner of a 2nd generation iPod Nano. For Christmas I asked my wife for an mp3 player upgrade to my current 4GB nano. I received a Zune (2nd Gen. 80GB); this device went back the very next day because the stores were closed on Christmas day (problem: you can't play back on your computer from the Zune). I exchanged the Zune for this 80GB iPod Classic. After nearly slamming it against the wall, I decided that it's going back today. The MAJOR problem is the clickwheel. This thing's sensitivity is seriously flawed. Example: Try playing a game that comes loaded onto the device, here you will see a prime example. It doesn't have the sensitivity of older iPods and as I get increasingly more frustrated (I try it softly, harder, hardest...), what ends up happening is that eventually you'll press down too hard and exit whatever mode you're in. This happens everywhere: as you're browsing music files, images, etc... What really frustrates me about the issue is that Steve Jobs has sold more of these devices than the combined sales of bread on Earth and there are so many personnel employed at Apple that one would assume this issue would be detected and addressed especially when it probably costs $3.00 to manufacture and it sells for almost $300.00!
Please see other reviews of this "Classic" and you will see many other customers complaining of the same issue. I'm done with mp3 players until these (Zune & iPod) issues get solved and until they create a way of replacing the lithium battery without having to send the device back to the manufacturer (and risking getting the thing all scratched up or beat up).

This is a great product! With 80 gigs we can download movies, lots of songs and tv shows all on the ipod at the same time. Makes a long trip seem to move faster! Earbuds are comfortable; screen is big. We highly recommend!

The best part is this iPod has been compatible with my Bose SoundDock from my 20GB classic. I like that there was no need to buy new one for this one. And the storage amount is incredible. Also, has been great for traveling with my 7 year son on the plane, where he watched shows we download from iTunes.

The i-pod is so cool, it is better than I thought it would be. My order was not received in the specified time. I contacted Amazon and they sent me a replacement because the original was never delivered. I got it in time for Christmas.

The iPod Classic has had TOO MANY one star reviews by people who don't even own the iPod or had shipping problems. DON'T listen to those! The click wheel is a little less sensitive than the previous 5th gen iPod video, but is still very usable (the only problem is that iPod cases with click wheel covers won't work). But it is still an amazing product. The cover flow works good and the only doubles I have are albums with more than one artist (which does bug me a little.) I love the split screen effect and all the new interface. If you want a nice MP3 player that's easy to use and has all the bells and whisels, plus can hold your entire music collection and still have over half of the space left... you will like the new iPod Classic! I will update if I have anymore problems.

I got my IPOD for Christmas 2 years ago. How cool is it to be able to upload your CD collection .. up to 7500 songs on the 30GB.. onto ONE little IPOD!!?? And never have to mess with CDs and CD cases again!

The only drawback so far after 2 years of use- You can't see the touch-wheel in low light or in the dark. It would be helpful if the buttons had a backlight! Oh and yes it scratches easily, so I think it should come with a case or protective skin instead of having to go buy one!

Ipods are great when they are working. 30 GB was more memory than I'd ever need to take my whole music collection with me and an occasional movie. On the downside, it is was not very customizable, but that was really minor. The major problem I had with it was that it only lasted a year. That is really horrible. I don't know if it's the battery or the hardrive, but either way it's not worth the money to get it repaired.
I'd hope the new Ipods last longer.

At first I hated iPod (something to do with my first one literally blowing up) But I gave it another chance, and to my surprise, it's been working great. I give the actual product 5 stars, but I loathe iTunes, seeing as how I had to delete all my music from it since I ran out of memory on my HD. Luckily you're able to set it to manual sync, meaning your iPod won't automatically sync the content currently on your iTunes account, or in my case LACK of content. It's inevitable, but I'm gonna have to eventually upload all my albums again. A simple "load content from iPod to iTunes" feature would do wonders for me.

In its own right, the Creative Zen Vision:M is a very capable digital audio player, video player, photo viewer, FM radio, and more. Indeed, one could go on and on about how it has the right specifications to make it a constant companion for entertainment on the go. The really big news about this device, though, is that it's the first device to boast complete compatibility with Amazon Unbox, the new digital video and music download service from Amazon.com.

Design Let's get things out in the open. The Apple iPod is the 800-pound gorilla when it comes to the digital media player business and, unavoidably, every other device is measured against it. In most respects, the Vision:M matches up pretty well, and there are few things you may even like better. Length and width dimensions are exactly the same at 4.1 and 2.4 inches respectively. When it comes to girth, though, the iPod has the Vision:M beat; the Vision:M is .7 inches thick, while the iPod measures .4 inches. The Vision:M is slightly heavier, too. These details aside, the Vision:M feels comfortable, yet sturdy, in the hand, with curved surfaces in all the right places.
Creative takes a somewhat different approach with the Vision:M's controls, answering the iPod's Click Wheel with a vertical touch pad--which allows you to scroll up and down menus and control volume--plus four buttons that offer navigation through the user interface. The contextual menu button on the bottom right is a welcome addition, allowing you to make quick settings changes and view information about media files on the fly--functions that are more cumbersome on an iPod. Creative could have made the buttons a bit more sensitive--they require a firm press that gives an overall feeling of clunkiness to an otherwise well-designed user interface. Another annoyance is the touch pad's over-sensitivity; it's easy to make selections unintentionally, sending you on a wild ride through the user interface.
The Vision:M's screen, which measures 2.5 inches diagonally, offers sharp details, vibrant color, and excellent response with little or no video ghosting during high-action sequences. The 320 x 240 resolution is to be expected from a device this size, and although it's small, you'll likely have no trouble enjoying video while you're sitting on the subway or a flight, or in the back-seat of a car. Our only nitpick was the screen's less than stellar viewing angle, especially when compared side-by-side with a video iPod. While this can be good for maintaining privacy, the narrow viewing angle also means that friends beside you will struggle to see anything other than a black screen.
Music, Videos, Photos, and More The Vision:M's music organization scheme is standard fare; you can browse playlists, artists, tracks, albums, and genres. Equalizer settings are robust, with a nice range of automatic settings, plus a custom equalizer that's easy to control. The music library's "DJ" function is a nice touch, allowing you to listen to your most popular tracks. It can also pull up the tunes you listen to least frequently--in case you've got some forgotten tunes lying around on the Vision:M's 30 GB hard drive. Sound quality is everything you'd expect from a top shelf digital audio player, and DRM'd Windows Media files played without a hitch. The device fully supports a whole range of "PlaysForSure" download and subscription services, such as Napster and Yahoo Music. Creative also ships a CD-ripping and music transfer application called MediaSource with the Vision:M.
Playback of Windows Media DRM'd video files (WMV9) was also hassle-free. Purchased videos delivered crisp colors and detail, with no frame drops. Video playback consumes a lot of power, bringing Creative's claim of four hours of video playback into serious doubt. Expect under three hours when watching videos continuously. Thankfully, if you need to come back to your video later the Vision:M's software remembers the timecode of where you left off--unless you power the device down between viewing sessions. In addition to protected and unprotected WMV files, the Vision:M can play MPEG 1/2/4, Motion-JPEG, DivX 4 and 5, and XviD formats, making it a very flexible device with respect to encoding options.
The Vision:M can also store thousands of photos, letting you browse through them or set up a slideshow. The device's TV-out option comes in handy here, as you can present slideshows on a TV or projector. Videos can be displayed this way, too. An FM radio with easy preset tuning functions and great signal reception, plus a voice recorder feature, round out the extra media features. There's also a handy application on the Vision:M that formats a portion of the drive for use as USB 2.0 mass storage, letting you set aside up to 16 GB for data storage.
Connectivity and Synchronization A Creative Sync Adapter ships in the box with the Vision:M, making it a snap to connect the device to a USB 2.0-capable PC. With the connection made, Windows XP recognized the device right off the bat and Windows Media Player immediately asked us if we wanted to load the PC's music onto the Vision:M. Music management and synchronization has come a long way on the PC, and the experience of organizing and transferring music to and from the Vision:M was, barring a few curious click-through boxes, pretty seamless. The Vision:M also supports synchronization of your Outlook contacts, calendar, and tasks, in case you want to use it as a personal organizer of sorts.
Amazon Unbox Integration To be truly successful, the Vision:M has to be more than a great media device, it has to integrate with Amazon Unbox and make the process feel like second nature. Although the Vision:M was tested using a beta version of Amazon Unbox, things are looking good already. Amazon Unbox and the Vision:M go together like peas in a pod, making the process of purchasing, downloading, and enjoying content on the go a real cinch. The Amazon Unbox Video Player, which queues, downloads, organizes, and plays your purchased movies and TV shows, recognized the Vision:M right off the bat. An icon for the Vision:M appears in the devices panel of the application, and you can immediately begin transferring downloaded content to the device. Once you're all loaded up, the Vision:M offers a great way to bring Amazon Unbox entertainment along for the ride.

I have owned two, first shut down after 2 or so months, had it replaced because of serious problems in the hard drive, and misplaced my second around here somewhere. Considered getting a third, but I'm quickly reminded of my frustrations with the first Vision:M. I know it's too much of an investment again on my end for a device that may or may not be working in the next 3 months. Easy to navigate (dummy-proof Windows format), with tons of space, great clarity, colors and all the works...if it decides to work when you're ready to use it. Look elsewhere for all these features BUT with a more stable hard drive.

I love my Creative Zen. Controls are easy to use. Software is very user friendly and battery life is great. I have an iPhone and I think sound quality of CZ is better than iPhone. May be iPod have better sound quality. The only downside is the size. It's much bulkier than iPod so it is not that convinient carrying in jeans pocket especially while traveling. But you get used to it.

Music is such a huge part of our lives. No wonder Ipod has such a large sales base and following. But I am not a follower...I was looking for an alternative to the Ipods and the Zunes. My son had a Creative player for several years before it died tragically in a glass of water on his desk (don't ask). When it came time to replace it, he only wanted another one. Then my husband wanted one. Then I bought one. And this Christmas, my oldest is getting one for a present. We all have the same one- and all like it tremendously. It takes a bit of time to get used to all the features and to even find them. But once you are up and running you will enjoy hours and hours of music, videos, pictures.... You won't go wrong buying this one. Even if it isn't one of the more well known.

Just got one of these and was very impressed. Not as small as some of the new players, but small enough to do the job and go anywhere. Size is about the same as a deck of cards.
Software which comes with it is a bit tough to get used to. I like iTunes better. But so far, so good. Pretty easy to add stuff to the player.
Video looks great.
If I had to do it again, I'd get an iPod, but this is a solid machine with great sound and video.

I got my IPOD for Christmas 2 years ago. How cool is it to be able to upload your CD collection .. up to 7500 songs on the 30GB.. onto ONE little IPOD!!?? And never have to mess with CDs and CD cases again!
Frees up your shelves at home (no more CD library!!), and makes long commutes to work in the car much more enjoyable!
I have an IPOD dock that is hooked up to my home stereo as well.
