The Sonos CC100 Charging Cradle is specially designed to hold your Sonos Controller CR100, and it also doubles as a charger. Mount this cradle on a wall (custom-fit bracket, anchors and screws are included) or place it on a table. Either way, when the Controller is resting in the cradle, you'll know it is safe, secure, and charging -- you can even continue to use your Controller as it regains power.
Note: The CC100 does not come with an AC adapter. It is designed for use with the AC adapter that is included with the CR100.

All this does is hold the Sonos controller you already have and feed it electricity from the Sonos charger you already have. It's "worth" the price for the convenience, because not having one is inconvenient (more on that below), but there's no way that this convenience should have a $50 price tag. It's a classic case of charging your customers what they're willing to pay, not what something cost to produce, which is good business but just smacks of greediness when the rest of the Sonos system is so high class.
I thought I'd just get by without the charging cradle, but:
- the socket on the controller where you have to plug in the charging wire is hidden behind a little flap of rubber which is finicky about opening; it's more work to charge the Sonos controller, without the cradle, than any other rechargeable thingy I have (iPod, cell phone, etc). So, the cradle is more necessary for the Sonos than these other devices, in my opinion.
- if you leave the controller unplugged from the charger for too long (not sure exactly how long, more than a few hours, less than a day) then it goes into a low-power standby mode to save the battery, and it takes a long time to wake up from standby.
So the upshot is if you have the cradle, the controller behaves beautifully -- set it in the cradle when you're not using it, and it's always charged and instantly ready for use. If you don't have the cradle, you're stuck carefully prying the rubber port cover out of the way and plugging in the charger, and if you're ever too lazy to do this, you'll have to wait for the controller to wake up the next time you use it. The cradle saves me 30 seconds multiple times a day, so it's worth it, but I'm still annoyed I had to expend this much money and analysis over something so simple.

They dont even include a AC transformer for 50.00 This should be included with the bundles.. This scars an other wise near perfect product.
Just as Promised.......2007-03-19
If you already own a Sonos player you are well aware how excellent the product is. This Charging cradle is just as promised, nothing more, nothing less. The controller is just as sleek as the units and it just a plug in and use. Still a bit expensive for a cradle but sits by the bedside beautifully and allowing you to view what is playing.
Overpriced, but you can't get it anywhere else.......2006-12-13
This charging cradle works as it should for the Sonos Controller, but it is very overpriced, considering that all you get are two pieces of plastic. An adapter is not even included, as you use the adapter that came with the controller. A functional product, but worth perhaps 1/10 of the price. Good news is that it comes for free with the ZP80 bundle here on Amazon and for free with both ZP80 and ZP100 bundles direct from Sonos.

The CR100 works in tandem with both of the Sonos ZonePlayers -- the ZonePlayer ZP100 or ZonePlayer ZP80 -- to control digital music throughout your home. Browsing and Queuing
Browse your digital music collection by artist, album, genre, track, name, composer, or even playlist. The Screen and Controls
The high-resolution, 3.5-inch LCD color screen makes everything on the screen bright and easy-to-see, including full-color album artwork, if available. Sonos designed the CR100 with a backlit screen and buttons, which makes it easy to operate in low-light conditions. The Controller's button layout is intuitive and provides complete music management and control. I have been running a Sonos system for almost two years and I am still amazed by it. I looked at lots of alternatives (Pragmatic in-wall amps, slingboxes, etc etc) and while these are not cheap, there is nothing comparable. I run eight zones mostly off the Sonos wireless links (one zone has to be networked directly to the computer running the hard drive with the music) and it works great. I have not tried Rhapsody on it yet, but I bet that's pretty cool.
Works well, could be better.......2007-02-05
This remote works well and does a lot. I have 3 boxes and 2 remotes, and they all work together quite well - a pretty amazing feat, I think. You can play songs off your hard drive, off rhapsody, can make and retrieve play lists, etc. The remote is a bit large, but when you figure its basically a small computer and which establishes a wireless connection to the other Sonos boxes, you can understand that it must hard to cram all that hardware in a smaller package - this also explains the price.
On the negative side, the remote does take 10 - 20 secs to boot up, which can be annoying. Also, about once a week you have to reboot the controller, which is easy enough (hold down two buttons on the controller), but also annoying. Finally, I wish there were an easier way to search for artists on rhapsody, which I do all the time.
Overall, its a nice piece of hardware in a nice system.
Sonos CR 100.......2007-01-22
The price of the contoller is my only concern. The unit does it's job very well, and allows fine tuning of all SONOS function in all zones. I couldn't ask for more. I can't think of anything that is lacking. Yet, the price, at nearly $400 for the controller alone is more than a bit steep. You pretty much have to have the docking station to keep the unit charged in a convenient way, so why not bundle the controller and docking station together?
If this unit were priced at $150 it would be a good deal. I figure that the SONOS folks know how essential the remote is for the convenience of the overall system, and have priced to gouge, as you have to have at least one controller to get the most from your system. I am very happy with SONOS overall, but feel a bit gouged on the controller.
Bottom line: buy what you need and cry all the way to control of your system.
Poorly Designed Remote.......2006-12-13
For an otherwise flawless system, the Sonos Controller is very poorly made. The product is large, bulky, awkward, and a bit heavy, but without the "substantial and well-constructed" feeling that heavier items should provide. While the large screen is a plus, the scroll wheel is almost painful to use. Compared to the iPod's scroll wheel, the Sonos wheel almost seems like a couple of vertical and horizontal motional detectors packaged as a circle. The unit often freezes, and only guesswork with random key strokes or a lengthy wait will cure the problem. Battery life is average, and expect to keep it docked (or plugged in) when not in use. I do not recommend this product, especially for its ridiculously high price, but it seems that there is no choice if you want the Sonos system.
The Sonos Zoneplayer system, as evident in my reviews of the ZP100 and ZP80 bundles, is excellent.
