This product was returned because of the incessant buzz. I could not find an fm frequency that worked well, and the product was hard to use. Frequency change was not intuitive.

The first one I got was out of order and I had to return it. The replacement lasted only 2 months since it broke into pieces. On top of that, the receiver was so weak that every certain miles I had to reset it - while driving. The connector to the ipod is probably the least user-friendly connector I've seen. I bought it because I've had execellent experience with Monster products in the past, but truly, I cannot believe how bad qaulity this product is.

This is the 4th transmitter I have tried and it has the best sound so far. It's very clear and low to no static. I've tried a Belkin, a DLO and a Monster iTrip. I haven't used it long, but so far so good. I'd recommend it.

I bought iCarPlay a few weeks ago after purchasing several other fm transmitters. The Monster is the best yet! I have a Honda Accord and it would not pick up a clear signal from any other transmitter. Then, I bought the Monster. Its signal came in clearly on all three channels. Switching channels is easy with the lighted presets. I am very happy with the product and wish I had not spent $99 on an inferior transmitter.

Defective Unit- Horrible Customer Service.......2007-12-17
When I hooked my 3G Nano up to my car with the 33199, I heard music for 1 sec before it went dead and froze the I-pod. Resetting the I-pod restored it but the same thing continually happened. Tried it in another car...same thing. Calling customer service will take you to some far-away land where people have extreme difficulty comprehending english and are flummoxed if you say anything that is not in one of there 'scripts'. After phoenetically spelling my name,address, e-mail, etc at least 3 times before they had it correct, they are hopefully sending me a new unit....BUT the service rep said THEY NO LONGER MAKE MODEL 33199, AND ARE REPLACING IT WITH MODEL 33411,
so I wouldn't even bother ordering this unit, and my experience with technical service was so frustrating, I will never buy a Kensington product again.

Plug and go ... awesome little gadget. Only issue came up when in New York for a weekend. Fewer radio frequencies to choose from which I suppose happens in all metropolitian areas. Highly recommend for anyone with iPod and car not pre-wired.

It worked wonderfully the 1st day I had it installed. But ever since, I have had problems with interference - I live in Washington DC suburb - hard to find FM freq thats available. I even tried going off the range - 87.9 and 87.7 - but sadly had interference there as well. Gave it to my brother who lives in a small town with not many channels taken!

My car doesn't allow for easy or inexpensive iPod integration and doesn't have a tape deck, so I reluctantly decided to give FM transmitters one more try. I have owned two in the past, and they both were terrible here in Seattle (lots of radio stations, difficult terrain so farther away stations come in and out all the time, interfering with the transmitter).
So my expectations weren't very high, but I can say I've been converted! This thing is awesome, and by plugging it into the power outlet inside my arm rest storage compartment, it is completely unobtrusive. It doesn't seem to hurt reception at all that it is stowed away. Highly recommended, I just bought another one to replace a tape adapter in my other car.

Apparently Monster has some real quality issues, this is my second bad experience with their products. Unit intermittantly stops transmitting, have to unplug to reset. Autoscan......great idea....needs more work. 120 sec to scan and you still have a busy station. Amazon was great on the return policy though, prepaid shipping.

I have tried the old monster cable and wasn't very happy with it as there was a lot of static with it. This auto scan cable allows you to do a search to find the clearest channel. We've had the new cable for about a month and would recommend it to others.

I purchased this product last week because a few people i know have used this and said it is the best fm transmitter for the ipod. 5 minutes after it came in i went to my truck to hook up my ipod, there was nothing. I am not sure why, but the radio station will not appear on the ipod touch screen and will not allow you to know what station you are tuned into to set your radio to. On monster's website ( as of 12/3/07) this is the first product listed on the page for touch accessories. After waiting on hold for over 30 minutes to talk to a tech support rep. from monster, i found out that the page on www.monstercable.com was wrong and that if you have a ipod touch, you should not buy this. Monster agreed to send me the correct one in exchange for this one. The one that is being sent to me is the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus.

I tried to use this at my gym to pick up the fm stations that were tied into their tv system. It picked up the stations, but there was constant static. When will I learn that none of these portable transmitters/receivers will ever work with clarity!

I purchased this little device to see how well the iPod would perform when broadcast into a radio. In all honestly, I bought the Kensington just for a cheap experiment. I travel in remote ski areas and radio (except for the paid XM, etc.) is out of the question. I brought a second car from Chicago to Colorado for the season and used this little device instead of my normal XM... Wow - I was pleasantly surprised.
I have no complaint at all. It did exactly what I wanted - no frils, played all the way from and to. Had to change the station twice in 1100 miles. It has proven to be a great buy and I have no intention of replacing it with a more expensive unit. Guess I feel that if it works this well - why fix it with one that may not! I did not have to stand on my head, place it on the roof or any thing bizzare. I plugged it into the iPOd, selected a station, laid it on the center console and listened to MY music the entire trip.
DEfinitely buy one - it has been just fine understanding I expected very little and got something that works. It has been more than adequate.

Not as good as the other Griffins I've purchased..........2007-12-15
I got this receiver so I could listen to my iPod in my car, because I had had great experiences with the Griffins that I had purchased for my iPod mini. This one, quite frankly, sucks. It's not like I live in LA, where the radio station can be interupted easily. I live in Utah! Hello? You have to turn the volume way up on the nano BEFORE you attach it to the Griffin to be able to hear even a little bit, and the loud hum you have to hear in order to listen to your music isn't even worth it. I finally just trashed mine because it was so frustrating.

I bought the Itrip because of the reputation Griffin has. I am simply disappointed with this product. The range is extremely short & is sometimes filled with static. I would not recommend this product to anyone, especially at a cost more than $15. Griffin definetly dropped the ball on this product. Next time I won't be purchasing a Griffin product.
Bigger than what I expected, but works well.......2007-08-10
This is actually my third iTrip that I have purchased (each for different iPods). I have always been very impressed with the two previous iTrips that I've used. The biggest surprise for this time was that I had expected the iTrip Nano to be a small, tube shaped devise that attached to the bottom of my Nano. To my surprise (and in contrast to the photos shown) the iTrip Nano actually is about the same size as my 2G Nano iPod and slides in up behind the device. At first I was a bit annoyed with the much larger than expected size, but after reading some reviews on the smaller FM transmitters, I changed my mind on the iTrip Nano,. Despite it's larger than expected size (which means I have to take my iPod out of its case every time I want to use the iTrip), the FM tuning strength is excellent. Ultimately, it is the sound quality that is the most important factor, not the overall size.

It look beauriful and fashionable on the ipod. But it takes time to get it to work correctly. The way you adjust the channels is a little bit confusing and not really intuitionistic. But people with normal IQ can figure it out at last. It's also a problem to figure out where to put it. In my car, it works the best on top of the control panel and below it. I put it in the box in front of the transmission stick. If you listen carefully, there's till a little bit of noise, but it's not disturbing. You can barely hear it when the music is playing. At last, it worth it.

Horrible to start, but well worth it!.......2007-12-25
Could not get my iPod to recognize it. Spent hours and hours trying to rest my iPod, reset the Tune Stick, then reset it all again. The DLO instructions are very weak. The DLO customer service is a joke... couldn't get a hold of anyone there. Got so frustrated almost returned the stupid thing.... but then, just before I was about to give up, I gave it one last try and.... IT WORKED!!!! And I've been a happy camper since! The steering wheel remote holder is genius! I really like this product because it has the pin out for the car power charger on the bottom, so I just plug in my charger to the outlet and it recharges my iPod, while maintaining power to the Tune Stick (not necessary, but convenient because the set up eats battery life) at the same time while I'm wheeling down the road groovin to my tunes! Final comment: It is definately worth the money... and the initial frustration. Have patience and you'll be very please!!

I got the Tune Stick over other FM transmitters for the iPod as it is the only one that I could find with a pass through port. This allows for charging the iPod while it is being used - definitely a cool thing to have. It has definitely changed (for the better) my office environment and my commute. The remote and the cradle for the steering wheel are all good as others have probably said, however, we ALL know that the iPod battery lasts NOT nearly as long as advertising would have us believe. So, the pass through connection for the docking port is a must for a day in the office or the long weekend or vacation drive up the coast. The transmission quality has been great although in the big cities (I like to avoid them anyway), it can take a little time to find a clear channel.
Clever product, with flaws.......2007-09-29
This unit is cleverly designed, and functions adequately...some of the time. Interference from power lines and radio signal relays regularly disrupt "broadcasts" from one's iPod to the FM station selected. As one travels, other stations can routinely be heard, replacing the programming on one's iPod. It's pretty annoying, and frequently renders the listening experience genuinely unpleasant.

Not good at all..........2007-12-12
On a completely dead frequency I heard more static than music. Then I'd make a left turn and it would sound great... until I turned again. Very disappointing. I bought this to replace the iRiver AFT100. The iRiver worked much better than the Transdock until it broke. I'm done with these FM Transmitters I think. Either they don't work or they're not built to last.

I was so hopeful that the Transdock would be the ipod transmitter of my dreams. Will work with my Nano now and work with my new iPod Touch when I get one AND charge my cell phone - what could be better?
Not this thing. I've had a Belkin for some time and that one was good, held a frequency well, well made, etc. But it only worked with the Nano.
This one with it's multiple articulating arms seems like a good idea if you want to install a squeek in your car and if you don't want it to transmit well. Additionally, it would turn off and on exactly once every minute. I contacted DLO customer support and clearly worded the problem. I asked if this is the way it works or do I have a defective unit. After no less than 10 'go rounds' of them asking me the same questions I had answered in my original email, they finally said I should return it for a new one.

Strong signal.......2007-08-26
The TransDock fulfilled my expectation regarding signal strength. My previous transmitter was extremely hissy, so this is what I was looking for. The structure is a bit flimsy, mostly due to the fact that the 12V connector where the dock is inserted is not usually made for this purpose, and the weight of the iPod/Dock combination makes the connector arm shake. This may also depend on the car that you're driving. However the iPod has not fallen off the dock at any time.
Great Sound, Poor Quality.......2007-07-18
I have tried 6 different FM transmitters for my iPod. The TransDock was the one that gave the best sound. However, I have had to return the two because they broke, literally broke into two pieces ripping the wires out of the product. The first time I thought I was asking too much of the articulated arm, the second time I did not use the articulated arm and the product still broke - that day. Very disappointing. Of the products I have tried the one I have been using is a $19.00 little bitty thing from iSound (If you live in an Urban area you might not like the iSound product due to the limited frequencies).
Not Bad For a FM Transmitter but Same Old Thing.......2007-07-09
Most people know about these things by now but if not do not buy this for the looks alone. You need to consider the type of vehicle this is for. If you need to use the extension bar for your cigarette lighter then you should look elsewhere. It is noisy and bulky and seems to be putting a strain on my power source. I mean noisy by squeaky when I drive. I am returning this and going the hardwire route. I will no longer put up with this FM transmitter fad. Many car audio places have ipod solutions for many vehicles so you get a true ipod digital experience without this FM modulator stuff.
Bottom line do not get this if you have a truck and need to use the extension bar.

I bought it and once used during the trip to Grand Canyon.
The power inverter is OK but noise, however the transmitter function is really bad. The signal by the transmitter was so weak, it was only functional when we was Grand Canyon without any interference by public radio. After trip, the transmitter function stoped to working any more.
Loud fan and buzz in FM transmitter.......2007-09-24
Purchased the item September 7th 2007.
Put it in my 2007 Chevy Silverado for an FM transmitter for my Dell Axim X30.
Had a $15 cheap no-name fm transmitter from CompUSA that worked OK, but fell apart.
First thing I noticed was the loud fan. Sounds like an old noisy CPU fan. Doesn't seem to have any temperature sensing since it fires up right away and stays at full power. Rotated it to redirect the sound, but ended up getting an extension and sticking it in my console. I can still hear it over the HVAC fan and road noise (stereo off).
Next I tried the FM transmitter and found that it was clipping badly. I am running the Replay Gain Handler (No clipping) Plugin for Pocket Player (which fixed my clipping problems in the past) and fiddled with the gain to minimize the clipping. In the end, minimizing the gain and lowering the volume seemed to fix the clipping issue which lead to the next problem.
With or without content being sent the transmitter adds a low hum to the sound. This is not present on standard radio stations and wasn't as loud on my old cheap-o transmitter. Between the low volume/gain on my Axim and keeping the stereo volume low to avoid the hum, it can be frustrating.
Last issue... The USB plug was installed crooked. I had to twist the white wedge to get the plug in. It moved with a snap... so I don't have a lot of confidence in its longevity. It does work though.
Haven't tried the inverter.
Hope this helps other purchasers.

I just bought this unit, tried it out over the weekend...so far so good. I read the other review that said it died after a month, i'll have to see. It sounds like the may have blown the fuse, they did send a spare with it, and also you can pick them up online here or at many harware stores. Hard to say what happened. Anyway, It works great with my mp3 player and DVD player, and the brodcast is good, but i do wish it was a full fm range and not just 15 stations. I do have another transmitter, and when i got into larger cities, I used the whole range. But, for the versitility, you can't match this unit. It's universal for anything player, Ipods, zune, gigabeat,zen because it is a plug in, it has USB charge as well, is even has a lighter adapter for another device as well. Look around, you'll be back to get this one.

It looked good, and worked well. However, when I put this device into a cigar jack, it made a noise. Thus, I gave up using this device while I am driving.

Does what it is intended for.......2007-08-25
Has been a good product to use. Many hours of use. Only drawback has been certain times there is alot of static from the engine and the car is a 2006. Also [and this might be because I don't have a good frequency chossen] the music sounds like a fading radio station. Still very happy with it for the price and my general use.

ive got both the universal version and the ipod version of the belkin tunecast II, they are the same except the color. i got the cta unit about 3 months ago, it has better range indoors than the tunecast, also better clarity.doesnt work that well in a car(have yet to find one that does),the 2 aaa batteries last about 15 hours of continuous play, rechargeable nimh batteries run about 6-8 hours.if you want to listen to your mp3 player indoors, this is alot less expensive than belkin,has better range,and costs alot less.

Cheap and nasty with slide around instructions ( cheap stick on paper instr. ) Could not get it to work at all even playing with the units equaliser type adjusters. When a engineer friend of mine tried he got a signal with a lot of static and a 2 foot range. I wish I had looked around more for a decent unit that WORKS.
PS: Blue light is very nice.

Cheap, shoddy plastic. Turned on once, got only static and hiss. Turned on a 2nd time - nothing. The thing "worked" for less than 3 minutes.
Item's worth LESS than you'd pay for it w/ the shipping fees. And it's rather hard to return. Keep looking.

Channels they provide have some broadcasting in my area and the sound sounds like a weak muffled FM station. And night you can just not think about. wish i read the reviews before I got this one. KEEP YOUR MONEY. berdell Chicago.

Does what it is supposed to!.......2007-12-26
This transmitter does a fine job for what it is supposed to do. The only drawback is that it does not come with an ac adapter. Two AAA batteries will usually last a few days which I feel is good. I have only had to try one frequency and that has been fine with only minor and sporadic interference. Overall, I am pleased with this product.

iLuv is relatively small and thin. Easy to carry around, will fit almost anywhere. Uses standard 3.5mm stereo audio connector. It is in no way iPod specific. I guess it has "i" in the name because every cool device these days has "i" in the name. You can use iLuv with anything. Laptops, MP3 players, Walkmans, CD players, anything standard. And with iPod too. Of course, if your device has non-standard connector (most mobile phones for example) you are out of luck.
It uses AAA batteries, which is not really a good thing. However, given that device is too thin for AA batteries, I'm not going to hold it against it. BTW, may I suggest rechargeables to everybody who bitches about price of AAA batteries. There is a 3V connector on it, so you don't need batteries if you have 12V to 3V adapter for car. I just got iLuv today, so can't really comment on battery life. It's been turned on for the whole afternoon with used batteries (that I pulled out of my old FM transmitter), and it still works.
It covers the full FM frequency range in 0.1 MHz increments. You can set it to virtually any unused FM slot. As far as I can tell, it stays at the dialed frequency and doesn't "pollute" reception of nearby stations (translated, your neighbors will not hate you). However, the range is very limited. You probably want to keep it no more than 10 feet or so from the antenna of your radio. If you are looking into buying it for use in car, this is not a problem. Tested. I placed it at the worst position in car, furthers away from antenna, and the sound quality was still good. If you want to transmit to the room on the other end of a house, you'll be very disappointed. It simply doesn't have enough juice for that.
There's some audible white noise when there's no input signal, but not any worse than some other devices I had in my hands. Don't expect miracles from something in this price range. If you'll be using it in a car (use most folks are buying this devices for), don't worry about it at all. Even if you have very quiet car, you won't notice this at all. On the other hand, if you are audio perfectionist, you'll probably have to spend much more money for something better.
Conclusion. iLuv is no worse then what I read in reviews for most other FM transmitters. It is way better then my old Radio Shack branded one.
