Design
With a total weight of 5.1 ounces and slim measurements of 3.87 x 2.91 x 0.87 inches (WxHxD), the nüvi 350 is just right for the pocket or purse. A bright, 64,000-color display dominates the front of the device and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels means that there's plenty of room for displaying map data and other elements of the device's interface. An SD memory card slot is provided for expansion software, such as a points of interest database, media files and electronic guides (see below). The flip-up antenna includes an MCX-type connector for connecting the unit to an external GPS antenna. Meanwhile, a powerful built-in speaker resides on the back of device. A built-in lithium ion battery will give you for to eight hours of battery life, depending on use. In addition to an AC charger, the unit also ships with a 12-volt power adapter for vehicle charging, as well as a windshield suction cup mount.

Fortunately, Garmin has made it easy to interface with the nüvi 350's 700 megabytes of onboard memory, thanks to "plug-and-play" USB mass storage support. Just plug the device into your computer's USB port and you've got instantaneous access to all the audio books, music, photos, supplemental maps and other data on the nüvi 350's internal and SD card memory.

Navigation
The nüvi 350 is first and foremost a personal GPS device. Wherever you go -- in your car or on foot-- the device offers extremely accurate position data, thanks to a high-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF and WAAS-enabled, 12-satellite reception. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nüvi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control-- making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique "text-to-speech" feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you're viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nüvi 350 is compatible with Garmin's GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route.

As mentioned, the nüvi 350 comes packed with mapping data for North America, but you can can also load up your custom points of interest. Set up proximity alerts for school zones, safety cameras, and more using Garmin's free POI (points of interest) loader program (available from garmin.com).

The device automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way.

Tools for the Journey
Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nüvi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. The built-in "Travel Kit" offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator.

In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language -- right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.

Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest-- places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nüvi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets-- letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nüvi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track.

Intuitive, great audio, accurate map, ghost addresses.......2007-12-27

I just received the GPS after reading some of the excellent reviews. To me, the unit is excellent in every way, except one. I rated the unit 4 stars because the address database does not delete obsolete addresses, so that you may travel to empty buildings and ghost locations where businesses once existed. When testing the unit out in our community, we selected four businesses to see how useful the Find function was; it got two right, but two others, "Waffle House" and "Home Depot", were at locations abandoned over 15 years ago. What really irritated me was that my place of business is listed wrong; the previous business that moved out over 20 years ago appears on the map instead of the actual, current business. It's ghost looms on my map as I travel to work.

We Own it for a year now, and have been using this Nuvi frequently, and I can say now that it's been great, and my wife is not as stressed out when we drive. I keep saying that just by that it paid itself off. No more printing directions, or getting lost. We went on numerous trips to D.C., Boston, Maine, Rhode Island, Illinois, Texas, upstate NY - and it's been very helpful - re-calculates very fast if you've taken a shortcut that you know, and you can safely take scenery routes, or other small roads. We live in NYC, and sometimes only in Manhattan it has issues b/c of the skyscrapers around, but everywhere else it works great. It's a great help if you're flying somewhere and renting a car - you know you don't need to worry about getting online directions. I turned it on on the plane several times and it's cool that you can record the speed and it can stay in the memory (so I have my max speed at 496mph). Spells out street names and turns clearly, but better in American English accents than other selections. Fits comfortably in pockets.

Comparing to TomTom, on Nuvi you can change directions while driving - which is great because you don't have to pull over to do that (as some of my friends had to and can become really annoying). Nuvi is Easy to use, nothing complicated, you don't need instructions to use it, everything is very common sense. I see that it's cheaper now than a year ago.

Highly recommend this one.

LOVE MY NUVI !.......2007-12-27

This product is great!... have only been using it a few weeks now; it's been a godsend when I'm in unfamiliar area. I'm in field sales and I just wish I'd gotten this sooner. I prop it up in the compartment above my radio and it works just fine (so didnt need to put suction cup on glass and be a tip off to would-be thieves that a GPS might be in glove compartment) Recommend it HIGHLY !

A must have for travelers.......2007-12-27

I own a 360 and just bought my wife the 350 for her car. I have not owned any other brand, but the Magellan used by Hertz is terrible. Being in sales I find the Nuvi to be a MUST HAVE when ever I am in another city or need to find a gas station, restaurant, hotel or whatever quickly. I still use it when I am home but find that my old "trial and error" routes are better because the Nuvi only looks at distance from A to B.
I have not subscribed the the Traffic funtion so I cannot comment on that. Lastly, do not be surprised if some new destinations are not yet on the pre-loaded maps that come with the device. Overall, though this has been a fantastic purchase. Also, the Bluetooth function in the 360 is not worth the price so stick with the 350.

The product has performed very well for my needs. It occassionally is off on very small or unpaved roads but on paved roads it is remarkably accurate. The size and mount have been perfect for my Subaru where the base attaches to the storage space in my mid upper dashboard. This allows for rapid removal and no sign shows of having such a device which presumably deters theft. The mp3 player is very mediocre and my family refuses to let me play it. Perhaps that relates to my musical selection. Service has been very good as I had a challenge loading topographical maps and they walked me through the process.

As comfortable as it is functional

The Wii Remote is equally comfortable in right and left hands and houses just the right number of buttons for gaming- not so many that new players will get confused, but enough so that Wii games don't feel constrained. On the face of the remote are the D (or "plus") pad, a large "A" button which is used for major on-screen actions, and two small options buttons. Between the game buttons are a plus and minus buttons (which often act as "forwards" and "back"), as well as a "Home" button to engage the Wii home screen to change settings or check remote battery levels. On the back side of the controller is a trigger-like "B" button, perfect for timing releases of a bowling roll in Wii Sports.

Thankfully, battery life is excellent with the two included AA batteries, just as with the previous generation of Nintendo wireless controllers.

Immersive intelligence

Along the bottom of the Wii Remote, four blue LED lights indicate which player position the remote is currently set to. The controller automatically connects to the Wii console via Bluetooth wireless technology. Below the LEDs, an expansion port lets you connect a number of devices including the Nunchuck and Classic controllers for Virtual Console gaming (Virtual Console games and controller accessories sold separately). Other features of the Wii Remote include adjustable rumble force-feedback and a reinforced wrist strap to ensure safe use. A speaker inside the remote gives the player feedback about the strength of swings or the accuracy of their moves- such as realistic tennis noises as the "racket" connects with the ball in Wii Sports. If you've never seen the Nintendo Wii Controller/Remote you may be confused. It looks exactly like a remote you probably have for your TV or DVD player.The Wii remote features advanced technology including tilt recognition and the ability for the game to see where you point it. It has 12 buttons although many arn't commonly used. It fits very nicely in your hands and it can also be rotated to be used like the Classic Nintendo controller we've all used in the past. It takes 2 AA batteries which last around 30 hours. Overall I really think the Nintendo Wii Remote is a great controller. Although it may seem odd, it fits great in your hands and works very well. It also has a strap so it does not fall out of your hand. There is honestly nothing I can say bad about the Wii Remote because it works great!

Obviously a remote is essential. I recomment getting it used, I managed to find a two-pack for $30. Otherwise buy Wii-Play for $10 more with the wii-mote and you have some funny mini-games to play with. The cow racing on Wii-Play is hilarious.

This camera rocks. This camera does just as well as the sd900. The only difference if the higher megapixel on the sd900. The sd800 has a tougher shell. I recommend this camera.

SD800 IS: a Great Point and shoot camera.......2007-12-26

This camera is great. It is an easy to use "point and shoot" camera. It works right out of the box and the various settings are more than adequate for any quick, on the go shooting; day or night, indoors or out.

Nearly everyone I know has some form of small digital camera of equal or higher resolution. Their pictures rarely look as sharp and clear as mine. I constantly get compliments on how nice the pictures I take look, 99% of that is the camera.

The controls and interface are very intuitive. The battery lasts for an impressively long time and with a 2GB SD card I get 596 pictures at the highest quality setting.

I typically shoot on the "manual" setting to adjust the ISO, white balance, exposure and focus. The "auto" mode works nicely as well.

Whether you buy an SD800 IS or some other small digital camera I would recommend a Canon over anything else out there.

The purpose of my review is not for this product itself, but for Amazon's stellar customer service. I just felt it necessary to post a testimony. I'm just an average online consumer who occasionally orders products online. I have no affiliation with Amazon; nor do I know anyone who works for them. I have enough experience with online shopping to see differences in customer service.

With Amazon, I've ordered products ranging from books, electronics, small appliances, and "other". I've never had a problem with security with my credit card. And all the products that I've ordered from Amazon, whether direct from them, or, was forwarded to an associate of theirs, arrived on my doorstep on time or rather, more typically, ahead of the estimated delivery dates INCLUDING DURING THE MAD RUSH OF THE HOLIDAYS!

For the products that I have ordered through Amazon, I have also experienced the value (cost savings). I can state that fact because I have performed in-depth research on the products that I have purchased before I hit the "OK" button.

After I order my items, Amazon emails "status" notifications. I can also log in and check the status of my order anytime that I want.

Only once, I needed to return an item to Amazon at no fault of theirs; I had ordered the wrong item. I returned the item unopened, completely in the same condition as they had sent it to me, and then ordered the item that I really wanted. Amazon credited my account within 3 business days of receipt of my returned item. And, I was delighted they credited me back the cost that I paid out of my pocket for shipping the item back to them. There was a minor hiccup with the return where initially Amazon thought that I had used one of their prepaid labels to ship the item to them. When I emailed them explaining the mixup, within 24 hours, they emailed me a formal apology and adjusted my account.

I realize that each circumstance is looked at by Amazon, as they do have return policies in place. And perhaps as you read my testimony you are muttering something different. I can only account for my experience with them.

If you are in doubt of ordering anything online through Amazon, you can be sure that they are stellar in customer service. In my experience of dealing with various online and various in-store customer service, I honestly thought this particular Amazon "return" experience was going to be a nightmare. They made it so easy. Amazon should be an icon and an example for other companies on what customer service is about.

perfect travel photos.......2007-12-22

I'm an architect, so naturally I take lots of photos of buildings when traveling. The slightly wider angle made a noticable difference, because now I can take great photos of buildings from right across the street. The colors are also great and I find myself printing straight from the camera output instead of spending a lot of time in photoshop. The scene modes give great results, especially the indoor and night snapshot modes. My dog's eyes usually turn out great with this camera's flash on indoor mode, instead of turning green.

Good Value.......2007-12-27

This is my first GPS navigation product so I don't have anything to compare it with. With that in mind I have found it to work well for my needs. So far I have been using it for addresses that I am familiar with. It takes me on some routes that I wouldn't normally take. It will calculate a new route as soon as you don't take the original route. I've only used it once when I did not know exactly where I was going. Got me there without a problem.
I'm going to enjoy using it, knowing it didn't cost an arm and leg to purchase.

Magellan 3100 GPS Simple easy to use right out of the box. No need for lengthy instructions, if you can't figure out how to use this out of the box perhaps you shouldn't be driving!

Only wish Magellan would have included a in house charger and a protective carry case.

It works pretty good. The part I do not like is that at the Magellan site they do not have a way for updating free maps to it. It looks like you have to buy a sd card with maps on it then load them in and I thought the price was rather expensive. It could use more points of interest loaded in it. I was in Branson MO recently and the road we were on had been rerouted so there was no exit to rt65 at that point but it showed on Magellan map that it was still there.

I bought the wireless ps3 controller for my husband. The price was too good to be the genuine product. A bit reluctantant in making the purchase, but we did anyway. The wireless controller was the real deal. It works great. My husband will be purchasing another one.

This is the best deal I've ever had on line, this controler for the PS3 is $49.99 anywhere i checked, I got it at AMAZON for only $19.99, and it was delivered in my mail box within a few days. This is a new controler and works great!

Sixaxis controller is good.......2007-12-25

The controller is very light weight and has a built in lithium ion battery, which is good for me since I have to replace the batteries in my xbox360 and wii controllers. On the other hand, I do miss the fact there is no rumble feature, and the motion sensing seems to have little or no purpose for the ps3. All in all I have enjoyed the controller so far and would recommend them especially if you can find them on amazon for $20 a piece like I have.

This is the best controller out for the ps3. Dont bother spending a little less money on other controllers cause this is the best and worth the money. Until Dualshock3 comes out in the spring then this will just be a lower class controller.

A great no frills portable GPS! Garmin's base model combines inovation and simplicity.
It's like having a phone book and a map of the United States right at your fingertips!
With a price of $170, it's hard to beat. If I was going to buy another one I would shell out the extra $50 for the 4.3" screen, it's a lot easier to see.
If you're looking for a simple navigation system that anyone (even grandma and grandpa) can use.....trust Garmin!

A great GPS for the price. Bought two of these for less than other models. Does the job and can clearly hear the directions. The visual is as clear and easy to use, right out of the box.

More than shortest route required.......2007-12-26

I have one thing to add to the other reviews on the Garmin 200. Despite generally competent performance it tends to be VERY STUPID in picking certain routes. Apparently it goes for the shortest route without giving any weight or consideration to the nature of the roads themselves. Thus, going from Blacksburg, VA, to Roanoke, VA, it selects a narrow torturous
state road, which one drives at one's peril, especially at night, instead
of the fast, safe and efficient US 460 - Interstate 81 route which any informed person would take. I have been reluctant to put it on my wife's
vehicle for this reason.

Buyer beware!.......2007-12-25

I just received this product today. I ordered it in new condition but I believe it was used. The product came from the amazon returns center and when I opened the box, none of the pieces were wrapped in plastic. The main unit itself is a little scratched. I will probably return this...buyer beware.
