Samsung's LED color and light engine
The revolutionary new LED system available on Samsung DLP HDTVs offers better color, and energy efficiency.
LED (Light Emitting Diode) for modern color realization
Samsung's new LED light engine replaces the arc lamp & color wheel design of previous DLP HDTVs, and realizes beautiful color. LED will last the life of the TV. Samsung LED DLP TVs eliminate the need to replace the consumable lamps every few years, and thus have less impact on the environment and on one's wallet. Samsung's LED light engine makes possible an Ultra-Wide Color Gamut that exceeds the NTSC defined color space spec for richer color than you've seen before on TV. Samsung DLP HDTVs with an LED engine are more energy efficient than similar sized flat panel displays, and the lack of a moving color whell in the design means they perform with less noise than any previous DLP HDTV design.

Samsung Cinema Smooth light engine
Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine create's images with a smoother, more film-like appearance.
Cinema Smooth Light Engine
Samsung is the worldwide leader in creating light engines that harness DLP HDTV technology from Texas Instruments. Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine brings together the right optics, electronic circuitry and replaceable light source to create a brilliant picture that's more lifelike and much closer to film. Now in its sixth year of evolution, Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine delivers crisp, 1080p High Definition resolution with high contrast and brightness, defined edges and sharp detail.

Next Generation DLP Chips from Texas Instruments
Samsung employs a Texas Instruments DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any other HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on & off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. When combined with Samsung's new Cinema Smooth light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that's closer to film.

Samsung Cinema Smooth light engine
SRS TruSurround offers a surround sound experience from only two speakers.
SRS TruSurround Samsung HDTVs are equipped with the best that technology can offer in sound quality. Even when viewing regular broadcasts, Samsung's two speaker surround sound makes you feel as if the theater has been brought to your living room.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very nice.......2007-12-26

I just bought this tv mainly for HD and Xbox 360. I also bought an HD dvd player.
PROS:
The picture is great. The sound is fine. I read some reviews saying the sound is weak, however I've never raised it above 30% and it's as loud as you'd want in a normal environment. The colors and terrific and watching a HD DVD is incredible. Definetely the best bang for the buck. Wide viewing angles and bright regardless of room conditions (day / night). 1080 P for under 2K, are you kidding!!! ALso= comes wih the led light engine (lasts 20,000 hours, are you kidding!!!
CONS:
It's a bit deeper than I thought, but from almost all viewing angles you can't tell because of the way they created the black frameless look.
If you're lying on the floor, (my tv is on a stand 18" high A.F.F) there's a touch of darker area toward the upper outer edges. However, if you sit up of course the picture is perfect.

ALL IN ALL= just buy it. I'm happy I did.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-12-24

I had this TV for about 1 month. The picture was great and it seemed like a very good TV. Then, it started shutting itself off. Called Samsung, they arranged for a service call, the service guy came over and found that he needed a circuit board, so he ordered it. Another week goes by, the board comes in, the guy comes over again, oops,Samsung sent the wrong board. The guy orders another board, still waiting for that one to come in. This TV has been out of service for more than half the time I've had it. Samsung agreed to extend the warranty, which I suppose is OK,but the TV is just sitting there like a big reminder of failed technology. I'm extremely disappointed that it is taking so long to address this problem.

5 out of 5 stars Great TV, no problems........2007-12-24

We love this TV - simple as that. The picture is beautiful, it looks great in our house, and no technical issues so far. Delivery was good. It's hooked up to a Mac mini via a DVI-HDMI cable running MythTV. I'd definitely buy it again.

3 out of 5 stars poor quaility inspection.......2007-12-24

The purchase of our new 61" LED Samsung rear projection TV went smoothly and the delivery took less time than estimated by a full 7 days. Delivery was efficient and scheduled when it was convenient to us. The TV was in beautiful shape, no dings or dents. Five days later the TV just quite working. I must say that I called Samsung that evening and they promptly put in a work order, gave me the name of the repair company and their phone number. I called the repair company the next day (they hadn't gotten the work order yet) and they were prompt in picking it up and in a week we had it back working. Apparently it had a faulty DMD Module as well as a faulty ballast power supply. Hopefully, this is the last of our problems, but it should not happen to a new TV.

1 out of 5 stars Sony is better with less troubles.......2007-12-23

I went thru 2 of these sets with the blue halo issue and the (((((((()))))))) problem on the screen. Samsung tech support was terrible and denied this was a big problem with these sets. I decided to get the Sony KDS-60A3000. The set looks better and the only problem is a slight geometry issue which was also on the Samsung and is inherent to RPTV's. Get the Sony while you can and avoid this Samsung as it has many problems.

Mitsubishi HC1500 720p DLP Home Theater Projector

Product Description

If you are a high-definition video enthusiast who's looking for a more affordable way to bring a front-screen projection to your home theater or family room, the Mitsubishi HC1500 projector is the right choice for you.

Amazon.com Product Description

Forget the mere 70 inches of even large flat-panel displays, the HC1500 DLP Projector lets you project a high definition image hundreds of inches large. With its quiet operation and huge, beautiful picture, the HC1500 could make your home cinema the envy of all your neighbors.

The HC1500 is just 6.5 pounds and has 1600 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. View larger. View product details.

The HC1500 can project an image up to 275 inches for a true theater experience.
True HD Images
The HC1500 DLP projector projects video in a native 720p format so you get a highly detailed HD picture that looks crisp even at large sizes. It features Texas Instruments BrilliantColor, which utilizes a seven-segment color wheel and an algorithm that enables brighter mid-tones and more realistic color. The HC1500 also offers 1600 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. Depending on the size of your room, you can project the image from 40 inches to 275 inches diagonal. The HC1500 has a lamp life of 3000 hours in low mode and 2000 hours in bright mode.

Pure Connection From Source to Screen
The HC1500 has HDMI 1.2 and component cable connections to ensure a pure input signal from beginning to end. With 10-bit processing, the information is unsullied and the result is a pure image on the screen.

Be advised that this projector (as with most projectors) does not include a tuner; to watch television, you need to provide a television signal, either through an external tuner or a cable box.

Easy Set Up and Quiet Operation
At just 6.5 pounds, the HC1500 is easy to transport and move around in your home theater room, and it has both vertical and horizontal digital keystone correction that makes it easy to mount on the ceiling or place on a table. The HC1500 operates at a quiet 25dBA that won't distract you while you're enjoying movies or television. A 12-volt Trigger jack allows the projector to control a compatible motorized screen. A remote control with backlit buttons is included.

The HC1500 is backed by a 1-year limited parts and labor warranty, and a 90-days lamp warranty.

What's in the Box
HC1500 projector, AC power cable, RGB cable, RS-232C cable, remote unit with battery, light shade cover, quick start card, user's manual, and safety manual.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great for movies!.......2007-12-18

What I like best about this projector is the price. After reading good reviews and comparing prices, I went ahead with the HC1500. Thanks to Projectorreviews.com, Projectorcentral.com, audioholics.com and especially amazon.com. After almost 2 weeks of usage, I can now say that it has exceeded my expectations. No rainbow effects and no aspect ratio issues. It has to be ceiling mounted in order to have a clear view without disturbances from people passing in front. No problems with ceiling mounting though because it's light and small. I used what Amazon recommended, the Atdec ceiling mount.
For me standard DVDs is good enough. I'm using an entry-level Philips home theater system and the surround sound is already stunning. I don't have a dedicated home theater room but I have a big bedroom (about 12' x 26') so converting into one wasn't difficult. I just used an ordinary white cloth as a screen and projected at about 12' to get a 100-inch diagonal picture.
This is a home theater projector and by that term it means that you should turn off the lights to get the best picture (just like in a real movie theater - dark). There should be no light in front of the projector. You can have some ambient light at the back of the projector without affecting the brighness and contrast of the picture. But with this setup, it's a good trade-off compared to more expensive LCD and Plasma tv's.
At first, I was concerned with the life of the bulb. But doing the math, I come to realize that I can change the bulb 5 times and it will still come out cheaper than a 60-inch LCD TV.
If you're looking for a big screen home theater experience, you can't go wrong with front projectors especially this one. And at this price (Amazon has the lowest price anywhere, trust me), it's really a bargain.

5 out of 5 stars Best projector in it's price range........2007-12-15

The Mitsubishi HC1500 perforned better than any other projector under $1000 that we tried, It does not have an iris for lens shift which means that where we want to place the unit is limited by the screen size we want achive. However this projector is small and light enough that finding an inexpensive universal mount was not difficult. Even in less than ideal conditions (ours is in the living room on the main floor with vertical blinds on the windows that let in a lot of ambiet light and odd shaped glares) the HC1500 delivers vivid color, natural skin tones and artifact free motion comprable to much more expensive projectors. I did find that this unit's ability to upscale a lower resolution image (480i or 1080i) was not the best; it produced some jittery lines and had trouble keeping up with high action scenes. Since we have ours connected to an upconverting DVD player (you could also use a HD player to produce a higher quality signal) the problem is completely resolved. Bottom line, even with a mount, the screen and two cables we have an 80" 720p HD image with crisp blacks and smooth action for our home theater system all for under a grand.

5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking, fantastic, wonderful.......2007-12-10

For the last few years, I've been laboring along with a nice Onkyo surround sound system, but only an antiquated (read: really nice five years ago) 27" CRT TV for a display. The effect was okay, but I've long been lusting after an HD solution. And based on flexibility and price, I decided on a projector.

I had narrowed my list down to the two 720p projectors available for less than $1,000 - the Optoma HD70 and the Mitsubishi HD1000U - and wound up deciding on the HD1000U because it appeared to be brighter and have better color, as well as (let's face it, this is the most important factor) looking a little cooler.

Well, the HC1500 replaced the HD1000U, and I received it as a surprise gift this past weekend.

So, what's the verdict? Well, let's step back for a moment.

Since I was caught unprepared, this was my setup:
- my basement was not light-controlled - there was light coming in through the windows, and always a light on in the room
- the projector was throwing onto a ragged old 4:3 projector screen (wrong aspect ratio)
- the projector was elevated by sitting haphazardly on its own box, the front propped up by a DVD case (which horribly keystoned the picture)
- since I don't yet have HD programming, or an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player, all I played was standard definition content - primarily standard DVDs from a circa-2002 DVD player and original XBOX games.

You would expect that in this situation, with the projector shown in the worst possible light (literally), that it would perform in a disappointing fashion. You would be wrong.

Standard DVDs looked *fantastic.* Even inches away from the screen, the picture looks good - you can see pixels, but nowhere close to the degree I expected. At only a few feet from the screen, the picture looked incredibly crisp and vibrant.

Back at the recommended viewing distance, the picture was unreal. Bright, beautiful, fantastic. I hesitate to say this, because this opinion might still be driven by adrenaline, but I actually think it looks better than a movie theater, without the faded colors that you typically see at most theaters.

I've looked at projectors at places like Fry's and Best Buy (to say nothing of sports bars) and always been disappointed by how faded the picture looks. But even in my non-light controlled basement, with a lamp or two on, the picture looked sharp, rich and incredibly saturated.

A standard-definition game on my original XBOX looks awesome too. Even Halo 1, which came out - what? - a milennium ago, looks breathtaking. I was only projecting a 77" screen (much smaller than the 106" I want to move to) but even so it was incredibly immersive. It was enough to trigger my wife's motion sickness, but both in Halo and in racing games, I felt completely sucked into the picture. I can't imagine what it would look like with an XBOX 360 or a PS3.

I stayed up until 12:30 last night playing big-screen Halo, and I'm itchy to go home and mess around with the projector again tonight. I haven't felt that way about something like this for a long, long time.

Even with the projector sitting on its box about a foot away, I couldn't hear the fan over the sound of the movies or the games. I expected something much louder, but I'm sure that suspended from the ceiling it will be almost unnoticeable even during quiet scenes.

Given all this, I can't wait until I can actually use the projector in a way that shows it to its advantage - a new screen, a ceiling mount, HD programming, no keystoning. One potential downside might be installation trickiness - getting the cables where they need to go across the ceiling without looking too ugly, for example.

Moving from a 13" TV/VCR combo to a 27" TV with DVD and surround sound was revolutionary for me five years ago - a complete revamp of how I watched TV. Tivo did the same for me two years ago. This has the potential to be a bigger step forward than either of those.

I recognize the fact that this might be as much a review of modern projector technology as it is of this specific Mitsubishi. Perhaps it's simply because I'm new to the world of projectors, and would have been blown away by any projector, but I'm really struggling to describe how great this is. I was ready to spend $800 on one of these, but even so it is leaps and bounds better than I thought it would be. It is brighter, sharper, and quieter than I thought was possible.

I honestly don't know what you'd get from a more expensive projector, or from a much more expensive plasma or LCD flat-screen TV. What's the point?

4 out of 5 stars great color, not as sharp as others.......2007-12-10

This is my second HD compatible DLP projector, my first was the Olympus V-1, which being the size of a large paperback, served double duty as a backup projector for office type work. The Mitsubishi 1500 was picked from looking the the ProjectorReview (sic) website, which basically lushed over its predecessor the Mitshubishi 1000, and the review is worth reading to find out how to tune this beasty.

First off it has a stunning, colorful picture, makes the Olympus almost seem black and white in comparison. However the tradeoff is it is not as razor sharp via the HDMI as the old projector was (no DVI input unfortunately so you have to live with the internal HDMI scaling issues.) I am driving this with an OPPO upscaling DVD player and for example lines of type in the credits that were clearly legible on the Olympus, are less so on the Mitsubishi.

The Mitsubishi had no problems when fed with 480p, 540P, or 720p via the HDMI input (the resultant picture was scaled to the projectors native 720p) but had picture jitter when I drove it with 1080i. I tried to route the OPPO signal via the VGA input using a DVI/VGA adapter but it wouldn't sync with it.

However, when I hooked it up to a 1080i output from a Mac laptop with the same adapter, running HDTV of an NFL game, the results were simply stunning. I display this on a nine foot screen and there was no noticeable lag even at this size. So if you have a DVI native product maybe try going via VGA and bypassing the HDMI input here.

In summary for DVD viewing I would give it a 4, but for HDTV a 5.

Pros: brilliant picture, even on low power
extremely quiet, you almost have to strain to hear it when playing movies

Cons: others have commented on its poor handling of native 4:3 material, I only use it for HD so its not a problem for me; the menus are very complicated and you will only want to adjust them once and hope it remembers; picture not as sharp via HDMI as it could be; output angle of this projector is high so since we keep it at table level I have to really tip it up on its hind legs to hit the correct viewing angle

5 out of 5 stars One year warranty?.......2007-12-07

I just got this projector and completely blows away my old Epson Powerlite S1+ in terms of brightness and picture quality. The best term I can apply to it is "Light cannon".

You must be very careful if you are ceiling mounting it. I mounted mine where my old Epson was and the limited zoom barely gave me the large sized picture I was used to. Otherwise I would have had to move my mount and the accompanying wiring back a few feet.

Everywhere the warranty is listed as one year. But the documentation on the side of the projector box lists the HD1000 at one year and the HC series (which I would think the HC1500 is part of) at two years.

5 out of 5 stars awesome picture.......2007-12-26

after much research and shopping around i ordered the samsung from amazon. i was a little hesitant, but went ahead and did it. what a total pleasure! recieved the tv right on time from eagle and the delivery guy was super helpful, friendly, very professional! the tv was in excellent condition and really easy to get everything hooked up and running. took me like 5 minutes max.

the picture is simply stunning to say the least! i love it and would recommend anyone looking fro a large screen tv to purchase this unit.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-12-26

I purchased this product from Amazon on 11/25/07. Very nervous about making a purchase like this over the internet, but the savings were too good to pass up. It came within 5 days, Eagle delivered it exactly when they said, and took away the trash. I've read all the reviews about halos, and bending, and black spots, etc. Maybe I'm missing it, but the picture is absolutely amazing. I have a 37" Panasonic plasma, and the picture on this is every bit as good. I've hooked it up through my home entertainment system, so sound is not an issue. I would highly recommend this TV to anyone who is interested, and I was especially impressed with Amazon. They've found a new regular cutomer in me.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome Picture.......2007-12-26

I was a little leary about buying a big ticket item online. However, the delivery service Amazon uses was very good. The TV settings out of the box were ok but with a little tweaking you can get an amazing picture. Sporting events and gaming are freaking unreal! You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Great tv.......2007-12-26

Great picture and size for the price.

It's all confusing about dlp, plasma, etc. but
I think I did well by buying this tv.

I saved about $200 from Best Buy. -They matched
Amazon but were still going to charge sales tax
and delivery- A total of approx. $200.

So on this tv- no tax, shipping, delivery, and setup charges.

And... the delivery team was punctual, professional, and had
my tv setup in about 10-15 minutes at most. They followed
a check list of items that had to work before they walked
out the door.

Amazon had the best price and I was impressed with all aspects
of this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional HDTV!.......2007-12-25

I've had this TV for 30 days. Total delivered price from Amazon was $1674.99! That price was several hundred dollars lower than Best Buy, Sears, Circuit City or Ultimate Electronics. Delivery time was 7 days. Delivery personnel were on time & brought unit in, unboxed it, placed it where I wanted it and turned it on to make sure it powered up. At 70 lbs, unit was light enough to easily move by two people. They left the empty shipping box for me to dispose of. This Samsung has excellent picture quality. No blurring at corners in fast motion scenes like other units I checked out. I like the idea that LED light should last 10+ years. While not as bright as the comparable $3450 Samsung 58" plasma HDTV, it's bright enough for good daylight viewing with the window shades next to the TV partially down. I also have a smaller Samsung LCD flat screen HTDV and I think this unit has a slightly brighter pricture than the LCD TV. On the very picky side, the power off-on sound the TV makes is a bit loud and annoying. I'd definately buy this HDTV again!

5 out of 5 stars 1080p- Amazing!.......2007-12-27

Got this last night and the set up and delivery were quick and relatively painless. Stunning picture..PBS special on Glacier Bay Alaska was our 1st viewing and it was "jaw dropping". From 7 ft away, this looks better than in a movie theater. Coupled with Dolby Digital surround sound and it was awesome! I was afraid of the delivery horror stories, but mine went very well. Even turned off, this TV looks sleek and incredible! Watched some MTV thing with awards for old rock bands...watched Genesis perform live and in surround...amazed at the pic. quality. 1080p rules! And...the price dropped over $80 since the purchase, which Amazon has refunded (up to 30 days post purchase...so keep your eyes peeled on the price after you buy!).

5 out of 5 stars New DLP and Loving it!.......2007-12-27

This Samsung LED DLP is fantastic. In no time it was up and running. HDMI input is a breeze and also using it as a 50" computer monitor via the DB15 input. Almost instant on with the LED light engine. No warming up. Setup is intuitive and not even necessary, but fun to tweak in some features. Picture quality is great. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Superb!.......2007-12-24

We spent quite a bit of time researching and reading all the reviews before making our final selection for a new TV. We are VERY HAPPY with our decision to buy this model as well as the price and service we received from Amazon. The picture quality is superb, the sound quality is fine and the TV itself is pretty and sleek. The gentlemen who delivered the TV were polite, careful and helpful; truly white glove service. Highly recommend buying this model from Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent product and service.......2007-12-24

I could not be happier in my purchase of this Samsung TV from Amazon. First, the price was great. No shipping charge made it even better.

Eagle delivered my TV one full week early with a call 20 minutes in advance to allow me to get home to meet the delivery truck. The driver single-handedly brought my TV in, unboxed it, and set it up for me. Then made sure it worked.

The picture quality is phenomenal!

As I said, I could not be happier!

Merry Christmas!

5 out of 5 stars Great TV, Great Value, with some minor flaws.......2007-12-24

I purchased this TV at Fry's (in person) in SoCal for about $1300, and for me, this TV is an excellent value. So while the TV at Fry's was cheaper than Amazon, with Amazon, you don't pay tax, and sometimes you get free shipping. Either way, it's a great value. For a comparable LCD of this size, you would pay easily $2,000+.

The picture is great for HD images - in fact, beautiful. However, SD images via digital cable (connected via HDMI) are sometimes a little pixellated. I also have it hooked up via component vid cables to my OLD XBOX (non 360) and progressive scan DVD player. Both have pretty great video on this TV. Since I spent the money to get such a great image quality, I figured that it's worth it to buy a next-gen HD player, so I purchased an HD DVD player (for about $230) on Amazon that came with 10 HD DVDs. If you don't have something capable of playing 1080p on this television, you're missing out! With a machine like this, you will definitely see the difference.

I also liked the fact that this TV has an LED light source, which hypothetically means that you should not have to change the bulb in the projector. Since it's a new use of the tech, I did go ahead and buy an extended warranty, just in case...

A few minor issues, some that others have mentioned:
1) I suffered at first from the dreaded "blue-halo" effect, which basically is a blue-ish area of light that becomes visible in dark areas of high-contrast scenes, around the lower center of the screen. This seems to be caused my a ring around the lens of the projector that should be black, but is reflective silver in some TVs. I called for service and it was fixed within minutes.
2) Viewing angle is limited, which sucks if you have a large number of people gathered around it. Just make sure that you're in the center and can see the screen. Screw your friends.
3) There is a "hot" or bright spot in the middle of the screen and I can notice that the center is a little brighter than the edges. Most of the time, I can ignore this.

Otherwise, this is a terrific television, which can really give you a truly cinematic experience in your home - at an extremely affordable price.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars performe more than i expected.......2007-11-24

it is not a perfect projector but good enough for playing games and watching movies (not HD movie)at least for me.

I use it directly to a white wall and it performes really well. Everything is good and worthy its price.

4 out of 5 stars Value for money.......2007-11-20

(Would have given a 4.5 rating if available - was a pretty good hit with friends)
Pros:
1. The cheapest one in its range with 100$ Viewsonic rebate (442$ with tax in costco online for a limited time as of Nov 2007, priced a bit less then here at the moment)
2. Excellent display, colors, clarity - am using it in my bedroom on a white wall - 70" display and 12 ft throw as a DVD, VCR and TV screen player - SVGA resolution good enough at this distance!
3. Very easy setup
4. Has good selection of video input ports (SVid, serial, video in) that allows convenient combinations (refer pt 2)
5. HD compatible

Cons:
1. No zoom
2. No speakers
3. Not XGA resolution (though SVGA suffices and satisfies my purpose)
4. Switching channels or changing input shows a slight glitch tho' not intolerable

5 out of 5 stars Performs very well within expectations.......2007-11-12

This Viewsonic projector is a real winner at this cost. Within it's limitations, no zoom capability, it has excellent color, clarity and brightness for the image. I can readily compare it to units twice it's cost and it stands up very well. I am using it extensively for PowerPoint presentations and it is a super performer. As an inexpensive projector to keep on hand in the office or car for speaking presentations it lives up to my expectations and more.

5 out of 5 stars PJ503D DLP Projector.......2007-11-06

I bought this projector because I needed one quickly for my daughter's birthday and for general family use. I didn't have time to research all the details of the myriad projectors that are out there. It arrived in time for the birthday and I showed a movie out doors. It was GREAT!. I really like this unit! It is bright,1500 lumens, even with a quarter moon and stray light from inside the house. It is simple to use and it is pretty quiet. It is a great projector for the price. (I was also in time for a $100 rebate so that made the whole thing a great value.) I am not a heavy user, so this projector is perfect. Viewsonic is a pretty good name in the consumer electronics industry. I don't think there is a better value out there.

5 out of 5 stars ViewSonic Projector an excellent choice.......2007-11-01

I'm very well-pleased with this projector. It was easy to set up, works as advertised, and the price was pleasantly affordable!

Very good product. Good value for money.
Everything delivered on time and in perfect conditions, as agreed at the moment of the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Great for the price.......2007-12-12

Projectors are moving so fast today that it imo is not worth buying a pj over $2000. The Optoma HD70 at $1000 is an excellent deal.

After a quick calibration the picture looks vivid and natural. Excellent black levels, great flesh tones...simply beautiful. I'm running about 80" from 10' away and I've been enjoying it a great deal.

It's not loud, even though it's literally 3' from my ears. It's easy to use, easy to set up...there's not much more I want.

The only thing I wish it did have was lens shift, but it's hard to find that in a DLP pj under $3000.

A comparable projector is the Mitsubishi HC1500

5 out of 5 stars Still blown away.......2007-11-12

I've had my HD70 about 3 months now, and I'm still blown away. I work as a projectionist in a movie theatre and I've been playing with Video Projectors for a long time and bringing them home to test. I also show 16mm and Super 8 films in my living room and nothing until now ever came close to the look of real film. I have mine mounted on the ceiling, but I do have very high old Victorian Ceilings, so the off set was not a big deal, plus the mount I bought adjusts very easily. I use about 7ft of my 9ft wide pull down screen so the full 16.9 image is about 7 x 5 feet. (I never cared for that silly salesman diagonal inches crap). Even with the bulb setting in economy and all the fancy AI Image stuff turned off, this projector just blows me away. Some one mentioned not being able to find the right screws to mount this projector, I just took the Manuel to the local True Value Hardware store and asked the guy if he had these screws. He walked over to a big wall full of fasteners and gave me exactly what I needed and told me to come back if they didn't fit. Something to be said for supporting your local Mom & Pop stores when ever you can. I also bought an HD tuner and an upscaling DVD player. Over the Air HD looks fantastic. I watched most of the World Series in Hi Def this year. I can't imagine what 1080p looks like. Oh and yes, the beginning of Star Wars III is the closest we can get to the pure digital signal on regular DVD so far, and it is amazing on this projector. It's a great sequence to show off your machinery. One thing I might mention... when you blow up an image this big, you are going to see the imperfections of lesser resolutions. For instance, Broadcast HD is still working out the bugs, and so you will hear changes in Volume and see changes in Resolution you won't see on regular TV because they are still working out the bugs. It's not your Projector or your sound system, it's the Broadcast, and I'm talking about NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and PBS etc. You'll also notice the resolution changes much more on this huge image compared to a regular HDTV. It's just so much bigger, you're going to see it. We took my machine over to another film buffs home and tried it on his 12ft wide screen and it looked a little dim, but we forgot we still had the bulb set on economy. A 7ft wide screen is still really big for the average living room and it looks terrific at that size. Oh, one more thing I noticed, speaking of Star Wars. I was looking at the DVD of Return of the Jedi and it looked really fake and dated, but the others, New Hope and Empire didn't, so I don't know what George did wrong there, but all the filmed matte shots looked obvious and had black seams around them. Very noticeable on the big screen. I look forward to seeing my favorite films on HD or Blue Ray someday, but I'll wait until one of them dies before I go nuts. I have walls of Beta Tapes and nothing to play them on as it is...

5 out of 5 stars Calibrates to outstanding picture.......2007-11-10

I previously owned an Optoma H31 and was extremely happy with it to the point that I just didn't need to gawk at the plasmas and LCD widescreen TV's at Bestbuy anymore. I was hoping for a modest upgrade with the HD70 since it cost me about the same to sell my H31 and upgrade as it does to simply buy a new bulb for it.

When I first hooked up and viewed the HD70 on a white screen, I was impressed with the 1280x720 picture. It made my computer feed perfectly viewable and pleasant to look at. With the H31 I had to view the screen in 480p to get a sharp and readable display. But this kind of resolution makes the icons huge and very little can fit on the screen. HD through Vista Media Center looks much better as well.

What really makes this projector outstanding is when you pair it with a nice upconverting DVD player (I can't speak for HD players, I don't have one). I have the Oppo 970-HD. I set the output to 720p upconversion. Then, you need to spend a little bit of time calibrating the signal. You don't HAVE to buy Avia. For now, what I did was go on a forum online where users post their own settings. I did this and then fine-tuned. One thing that really brings out the oustanding potential of this projector is to turn the color down so that the picture (especially the fleshtones) look natural, not overly sunburned. Then, I turned up the Brilliant Color to a brightness that wasn't too unnatural looking. Sharpness is at max as well.

The results are outstanding if you are patient after some minor calibrating!! I can only imagine what professional calibration would look like!

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME.......2007-11-08

I love it. I have it in a basement in which all windows face north, so there is very little ambient light. I do not know how it would do in a lit-up room, but in the darkness, it is just plain awesome. My wife loves it, too. I have a 92" pull-down wide-screen with no fancy things like gain (whatever that is) and it works fine.

4 out of 5 stars Great TV.......2007-12-26

The TV is very nice and has spoiled me already. I don't like the intensity not being as bright as an LCD, however, losing the screen lag offered by LCD's is a great tradeoff. It would be nice if the viewing angle were a little better, but it's acceptable. I've had this TV for a few weeks and I can say that I would buy this TV again if I were purchasing right now.

1 out of 5 stars Samsung DUD - NOT Recommended: Support Sucks.......2007-12-25

We purchased this TV through Amazon for the in-laws and the in-laws have had nothing but T R O U B L E. The TV spontaneously reboots approximately once every 1.5 hours. The error code in the bottom right hand corner of the screen do not match anything in the product manual. Samsung tech support punts us to Amazon. Amazon tech support punts us to Samsung. WTF? Calls are probably routed to Samsung & Amazon of India.

Tried using the online tech support feature for Samsung. There is no apparent way to input the serial number for the product information portion of their repair request form. We can't even manually submit a repair request!

We are so dissatisfied with Samsung and Amazon that we are boycotting both companies. I invite anyone having issues with either company to join our boycott.

Yours Truly,

A Very Dissatisfied Family in Texas.

4 out of 5 stars I love this Samsung.......2007-12-10

I purchased this television from Best Buy. I had been on the fence for so long regarding which television to buy (DLP, LCD, Plasma...etc.) for almost three years. I figured for the value per screen inches, this DLP television was the winner. The picture quality is superb, and I don't have a bad thing to say about this television. The television sits on the stoop above the fireplace. The TV dims just a little bit, but that isn't its fault. This would have happened to any other TV that I bought. Just have a little patience when setting the TV to your preference. The owner's manual is great and provides direction on how to replace the lamp when it eventually dies. Did I mention that this TV is great? BUY THIS TV!!
