Beware of the firewire cable!.......2007-06-14
I needed a simple firewire card and thought the USB 2.0 was a great perk. The card is an amazing value for all you're getting, so I placed my order 6/4/07. Opted for standard shipping and it arrived 2 days later - can't beat that.
When I hooked it up, the USB ports worked perfectly, but I couldn't recognize the firewire ports. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting and trying to install drivers even though I thought I wouldn't need updated drivers on my XP system.
Finally, I saw the one review on here by FlyersFan about how the firewire cable shipped with the card didn't work. I've never had a problem with using cheap, no-name cables before, so I gave it a 1% chance of working, but I went to Staples and got a Belkin firewire cable. BINGO!!! It worked.
Afterwards, I checked both ports and trying wiggling around the cheapo cable shipped with the card, and in every scenario, the cheapo cable didn't work and the Belkin did. Thank you so much FlyersFan for posting about your need to get a new cable!
Many people have had no complaints with the card and cable, but clearly a significant number of the cables shipped out with this card are fatally defective. I give the package 3 stars because I really like having 2 firewire ports and 3 USB 2.0 ports on one PCI card for less than $20. But please be aware that you may have to run out and buy a separate firewire cable.
Don't Buy.......2007-03-19
There are no instructions as mentioned before but my biggest complaint is that the card would not fit into the slot in the back of the computer. The usb ports and firewire ports were made wider than any standard pci card should be. In order to get it to work I had to squeeze the metal on the top and bottom of each port down until it would fit into the slot. Very frustrating and just wrong, looking at the other reviews though, maybe I just got a fluke card. The usb 2.0 ports work fine once installed and I haven't had a chance to try out the firewire ones.
Problems with cord.......2007-03-13
I installed the card and my computer recognized it just fine. However, the computer wouldn't recognize anything that I plugged in using the firewire cable. So I bought a new cable at Walmart, and sure enough, it worked like a charm.
The whole reason I bought this was because the cable was included. That was a mistake.

I installed these cards on two of my machines under Winxp and had no problems whatsoever. Just plug and play the way things are supposed to be.

Very easy install, and worked right out of the box with no difficulties. Good thing as there are no instructions, but it's intuitive to install.

The cable was fine...but the way Crutchfield chose to ship it was environmentally wrong. They put a tiny cable in a very BIG box that was overfilled with packing peanuts. When packing peanuts are disposed of improperly (which most folks do) they will take the current of air and trash up the envoirnment. Some float out to sea where sea creatures see them and think they are food and eat them, and eventually die. Even if the peanuts are "biodegradable" that doesn't mean they degrade quickly or that they are edible. Too bad Crutchfield chooses products that work well for their business...but don't work well for the rest of the world. I returned the product.

Amazon sent me an email asking me to write a review of this product. Usually I like to have actually used the product before writing a review, but since I haven't received it yet, that is not possible. It has been over 1 month since I ordered this with the Crutchfield storefront at Amazon.com. Amazon's site indicated the product was in stock, but since ordering, it has been placed on back order twice and expected to ship in a few days from now. I just wonder how it could take so long to get a product from manufacturer to end user. I don't know where this is manufactured, or who Crutchfield's supplier is, but needless to say I am not entirely pleased with this whole process... which doesn't really have anything to do with Amazon. I hear DV cable does it's job, but I'll have to wait and see.
JVC 'i-link' .......2005-10-15
Cable is working perfectly. What a joy to be able to transfer video to my computer. I bought tis cable used, but it showes no sign of wear at all. I did however expect it to be a JVC brand with a core filter. Maybe thats what all the braided sheilding is for. Regardless, I havn't gotten any interfearence so I'm happy.
