Customer Reviews:
The one remote I use most.......2006-10-01
It doesn't have all the buttons to control all features of various componants. But it does have the main ones we normally use most.
Controls volume, mute, channel, previous channel, ok, input, sleep, info along with the usual vcr/media controls like play pause, etc..
I purchased it mainly because it is backlit and controls 4 devices. So far I am using it with three and all three work just fine. All the buttons do not lite up though. It skips the 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9 number buttons. Not a real big deal since you can still see the other numbers from the backlit buttons.
It is smaller than my other remotes and frankly, easier to use. A very good layout.
This was shipped to me from Beach Audio and they came across as VERY straight, honest and wanting to know if everything is ok judging by a the emails they sent me after my order, during shipment and once it was delivered.
I wish all online companies were as concerned about customer service as Beach Audio.
No, I do not work there.

Customer Reviews:
a really great remote.......2007-10-09
GE Universal Remote Control 84918 new I purchased one on October 8, 2007.
I had a problem at first like the first reviewer did. There are two sets of instructions for direct code entry. One says to hold down the setup button (wrong). The other says to hold down the Code Search Button (bingo). It worked perfectly as described in the manual with the Code Search Button. This was the easiest remote I have ever programmed and it is extremely flexible and has a MUTE key (only universal remote I have had with a Mute key). The TV button must be used for TV but the other 5 buttons can be used for any device. I had a TV, 2 VCR, 1 DVD and a TV/VCR combo programmed all in about 5 minutes and almost all of the function worked on my devices. In addition, it is a convenient size, very light weight, takes 2 AAA batteries and has a switch to back light the keys. I love it and strongly recommend it.
didn't work.......2007-08-27
purchased this GE Universal Remote Control 84918 new. 2nd step of programming was suppose to leave a red light on. Red light did not stay on. Had to return remote. It did not work.

Amazon.com Product Description
The RCA RCU810 is an innovative, backlit remote that can control up to eight devices including televisions, VCRs, satellite receivers, cable boxes, audio receivers, DVD players, and CD players. The remote's LCD screen displays a menu that steps users through setup and operation. By using the macro keys, users can program a series of keystrokes under one button. The learning keys easily transfer functions from the previous remote, eliminating the need to completely reprogram.
Customer Reviews:
Works Great!!.......2005-01-14
I purchased one of these about 3 months ago and have experienced none of the problems such as clock resetting as mentioned by some of the other reviewers.RCA may have improved the design (Mine is a 810B) or possibly the reviewer was using standard batteries instead of alkalines.
I really love the macro functions. Since I have a home theater system it was always a pain turning everything on and off one at a time. Now I just hit one button. I also programmed a macro to switch the tv and satellite receiver to high definition mode and back. This was great for my wife who always had some difficulty in accomplishing this.
The only fault I have found is the learning function in a couple of instances required two or three tries before it worked but it did learn most commands on the first try.
I think this is a great buy for the money.
Very disappointed with this.......2004-01-01
I liked the layout of this remote, and with the learning capabilities, I figured that this would be ideal. However, I couldn't get it to "learn" a single command. It kept showing the ERROR sign. When I programmed my CD player with the only code that would work, only one function of that worked...and that was the wrong key! Needless to say, it got returned.
Suits my needs, but needs improvement.......2003-06-13
I have an large home theater setup, and I hate the idea of sorting through 6 different remotes to preform a single function. The RCA RCU810 really did combine all of my remotes into one. There was not a single function it couldn't handle.
Despite what other reviews have indicated, this remote CAN handle another components functions while in a different mode. For example, I set the remote's volume up/down keys to control the receiver's volume no matter what mode it's in. So even if I'm in TV or DVD mode, pressing the volume button will always control the volume on the receiver. This keeps the button-pressing to a minimum.
This remote is not without its flaws, however. As others have stated, the backlight is a nice feature, but the button to turn it on is hard to find in the dark. Plus, it makes a slight humming noise when its on. Another annoyance is that the DVD/VCR controls; ffwd, pause, stop, etc. are placed at the very bottom of the remote. This makes it very awkward to press these buttons, especially with one hand.
Another problem which seems to be a common among everyone is the clock resetting. This is a very common occurance on mine. I've given up on setting the clock because it resets itself at least 1-2 times a week. Thankfully, you don't lose any of your programmed functions when this happens. If it did, I would've returned it right away. I think the problem is directly related to the use of the backlight function. Poor circuitry perhaps?
Finally, some more macro buttons would have been nice. I can think of a million uses for this feature if there were more. This remote only give you 3, which isn't enough.
Overall though, I'm satified with this product. It does what it says, and all my other remotes are now in a cabinet.
Works, with quirks.......2002-11-27
The downers:
1) Backlight button is hard to find in the dark and doesn't stay lit long enough to find the obscure button you are looking for
2) VCR buttons are way down at the bottom. With TiVo this is awkward since they are the most frequently used buttons and gives me a bit of a thumb cramp.
3) Only preprogrammed for the Phillips TiVo, not the Sony version
4) Learning capability is limited to about 20 buttons, which may seem like a lot, but not enough if the codebook is missing one of your remotes.
5) The bug: When backlight is on, sometimes the remote forgets what time it is (resets to 12:00), switches to TV mode and turns off the backlight. I gave up on using backlight mode.
6) (2 year update) The most frequently used buttons require intense pressure to activate. As a TiVo user, This means FF/Play are almost useless. As of this update, I'm in the market for a new remote, and I've lowered my rating.
The uppers:
1) Comfortable to hold, nice form factor and weight.
2) Good battery life. I've had it for a year and never replaced the batteries.
3) Primary buttons (volume, channel, arrows, select) are easy to identify by their finger-feel
4) Nearly all functional keys are capable of learning (The clear key can't learn... it cancels the learning function)
5) Taking out the batteries does not erase the programmed functions (For those of you paying attention, I put back the same batteries I took out).
6) (2.5 year update) Has a JP-1 interface (requires solder).
Very unstable.......2002-10-13
The first one I bought four days ago kept resetting itself to 12:00 (like another customer reported) and goes into TV mode whenever it likes (just like the other customer said). I took it back and got a new one which started to do the very same thing after less than a day. I am taking it back and getting a different brand. I have wasted three days already. This is a [poo] remote control. I am warning you. Don't waste your time with this product!
