Product Description
Stop fumbling with remotes when using your home-theater set-up. Philips Pronto TSU3500 simplifies it all. The compact upright shape is easy to pick up and comfortable to hold with one hand. The unit also has convenient hardware keys for channel up/down and volume up/down. These keys feature 3D markings to make it possible to ?feel' your finger is on the right key without looking. A battery charger is included to ensure the unit is allways ready for use. An extensive code library is built-in, and the device can ?learn' codes from the original remote control units supplied with the AV equipment. Codes can also be downloaded from the Internet when incorporated in pcf files. One Pronto unit eliminates a table full of remote controls, and adds a personal touch to the system. Online support

Good but with issues.......2007-12-25
I'm on my second Pronto. The first one lasted about 5 years and just died one day. I've had the 2nd now for about 4 years and, until recently, worked great.
A long time ago I used to be a computer programmer and I quickly figured out how to write code for the pronto. Doing basic things isn't too complicated, but to really use the bells and whistles you need to devote some time to learning. One bright note is the software that you run on your PC is pretty easy to use and there's a good simulator so you can see what things look like before you upload to your Pronto.
Back to my current Pronto. They're built pretty well BUT the other day it fell off of the coffee table onto a tile floor face down. No, the screen didn't break, but now the row of buttons below the screen no longer work. Since I had these programmed to switch between various functions, the unit is pretty much useless.
So now the big decision. Get another Pronto (if you do the math, these things are costing me about $90 a year) or be a lemming and get the Logitech Harmony (for less than half the money). Decisions...decisions..decisions.
Bottom line - plan on investing hours and hours to learn the programming for this device - but it's worth the effort. Also, never ever drop it!
A little more effort to program, but well worth it!.......2007-11-23
I've tried a LOT of universal remotes and keep coming back to the Pronto. Yes, the programming CAN be a little more complicated, but that's half the beauty of this product. Other remotes (like the Logitech Harmony) are hard-programmed with the keys and functions. Pronto allows to to define your own layout and cross-link devices (e.g. volume in DVD mode controls the television).
Phillips support the worst.......2007-10-23
They don't answer their 800 number. They don't respond to e-mail inquiries. And they have no service available in that small town called CHICAGO??? Will never buy another Phillips product as long as I live. Get a Logitech Harmony instead.
Steven's word.......2007-10-17
I love it !!! I had the orignal Pronto for at least 5 years and I would have never parted with it , but I dropped it. The new Pronto took alittle time to learn and has more manual buttons , then pure touchscreen buttons. Overall I recommend the Pronto for anyone that has more than 3 remotes for their home theater.
Nice Remote.......2007-09-04
Remote works well. I spilled beer on the last one so I had to replace it. Best thing about the internet is that you can get anything at half the price than a retailer. I am happy with purchase.
By the way, hire a professional to program it. Don't waste your time on trying.

Actual TSU7000 owner.......2005-08-23
I cant speak to the complaints about Philips previous versions and customer service policies, as my pronto TSU7000 has yet to break. Overall i can see why people may have some issues with this remote, its not a simple push button universal remote...the touch screen can require recalibration (like on PDAs) and the pc software is robust (hence some learning time) to truly customize this remote anyway u want it for a wide variety of tasks.
In fact, the more uses you have programmed for it, the more you will appreciate it. If you just want a universal remote to control one basic entertainment area...then it is overkill..although it will look nice.
If you are looking to replace all your remotes...of any kind..in any room....then this is the best i have seen out there in this price range. Also, be sure to get latest firmware and software updates...they do make a difference in crashes and usability.
Pronto Pro TSU6000.......2005-08-03
I gave this unit a 2 star rating because it actually is very cool and works as advertised. Two practical problems. Touch screen is frequently "touchy", it doesn't want to respond without several attempts. Problem #2: I could NEVER get the VCR to turn off properly. It keeps turning ON when I shutdown (I am a programmer so I know how to use the functions). These issues alone would only be cause for a 4 star rating. The real problem is after two years of limited use (it's only used on my $50,000 home theater) it just stopped working one day (screen on, but no touch controls). Philips had me install a new driver (which cost $41 for a RS232 to USB converter cable since their supplied cable is not USB and all my PC's no longer have RS232 ports). The unit would not accept a new driver and would no longer even turn on. So, Philips "solution" to this was an exchange program...for $471 + tax and shipping they will send a refurbished unit. I can buy a brand new unit of the newer model for $600. This is NOT good customer service after only two years of limited use. What if your PC locked up and the vendor's solution is to buy a used one for nearly the cost of new? Bad Philips. Bad!
I am going to rate philips pronto's in general.......2005-03-27
I had the 2000. It's going in the garbage today. When I first got it 2 yrs ago, there was a defect and philips gave me a replacement, but a refurbished one. I argued to no avail with them. Two years later, this refurbished almost caused a fire. I smelled something melting just before going to bed, it was the pronto in the charger. My friend also had two of them break under normal uasage. They are pooly built and I don't think a company should replace a one week old unit with a used one.
From a usage note. I found the lack of a tactile input a little hard to use.
I would hope the new units are 'fire proofed' but I doubt the company policy has changed. I won't be buying any philips products.

Amazon.com Product Description
Control up to eight home theater components from a single easy-to-use remote with this universal touch-screen model. Unlike many universal remotes, which tend to include only static buttons that don't match up with your DVD player or satellite receiver, the PM8TSMD flexibly complements your components with a programmable LCD touch screen and the ability to learn commands from your existing remotes. Users can program up to 300 functions on the touch-screen pad, which offers two customizable screens per device, including functions for TVs, VCRs, DVD players, digital cable boxes, satellite receivers, audio receivers, CD players, and even laser disc players. The unit also includes a set of pre-defined buttons that offer such advanced satellite and DVD commands as subtitle, repeat, and chapter scan, along with picture-in-picture and closed captioning. The remote's extensive code library includes a code search mode that enables quick setup and programming. To use the learning option, users need to merely line up their existing remotes on a coffee table, and then point the PM8TSMD at each remote consecutively from a distance of 2 inches. The PM8TSMD will absorb the commands and let you assign specific LCD buttons to each.
In addition to offering a host of custom controls, the PM8TSMD is also easy to read, with luminescent blue backlighting that highlights the command buttons. The backlighting automatically activates in low-light conditions. The remote also comes with battery and code saver functions.

It's pretty.... and almost useless........2005-12-11
It's true what the other reviewer said about the shocking complete lack of support for this product on the Philips AND Magnavox websites. It's as if almost every remote they make - even the current ones - don't exist (except of course for the $1,000+ "controllers" for people who have more money than sense. When a consumer electronics firm fails to even ACKNOWLEDGE certain of its products, or they abandoned product support before you even buy it, that's a major indication that the product mostly likely stinks, and furthermore - you're on your own. By the way, this is basically how Philips supports the TiVo boxes it makes - NOT AT ALL.
Mitsubishi does this too - their website doesn't even acknowledge the 'top of the line' TVs from '99 and '00 costing $3,000. Did they expect them all to be junked by now?
Before you make a major purchase, look at the company's website to see how well they support past products (with manuals, service memos, parts, etc.).
Wish I had known.......2005-10-11
How awful this remote was brefore I purchased it. Philips dosen't even carry any support at their website!
You get what you pay for.......2005-09-28
As another review mentions... no MACROS!
The LCD buttons don't really work.
I do love the learning feature, I was able to program it to handle my iPod remote control! Battery life is good, might not be be for everyone.
dont buy unless real cheap.......2005-08-23
I bought this for $20 on sale. I got it to work with everything but my sony receiver. If you plan on actually using the LCD screens programmable buttons at all this is not for you. It'll take you up to 15 min. for the remote to pick up the other
remotes signal, just to have the remote accidentlly clear everything you programed into it. ( I did it a bunch of times and I'm quite good with electronics.) If you just want the remotes LCD screen for bragging rights and plan on only using the standard buttons; this remotes for you, If not don't buy it.
Hard to use and lacking in features.......2005-03-04
This remote works, but the LCD screen is hard to use, you don't get the same feedback from it as you do from "real" keys.
It also cannot do macros, which is a handy feature on most of the One for all remotes.
The learning functionality is good, but limited to only certain keys.
The assigning and reassigning of keys is inflexible when compared to the One for all remotes.
I ended up returning this remote and getting a One For All URC8811 for less money and a lot more flexibility and features.
