Palm products are unreliable now.......2007-12-21
I kept my first Palm for about 5 - 6 years. No problems. I just wanted a simple tool for keeping track of appointments and contacts and a few notes. Has worked well for me for many years. When my old device finally died I went back to Palm for a replacement. No question.
I got a Z22. It lasted almost a year. I was surprised it failed so soon. I decided maybe I should spend a little more money the next time and got a Tungsten E2. This lasted about 5 months, just 2 months past the short 90 day warranty. The E2 had some problems in the last month. I had to reset the date several times and the charge seemed to suddenly disapear. Easy enough to fix. Then it just went blank and could not be revived. It was not as reliable as the others devices. In the end, it failed and repair is uneconomical.
In addition, I note that Palm support is pretty poor these days. There are language problems and a general lack of reasonable discourse with support personnel. The exchange makes me imagine I am trying to talk to a machine. That is not a conversation.
I give up. No more Palm. Palm was a good company with good products. In fact, sadly I may go back to a paper calendar and printing out my contact list. I fear most of the PDA devices have become less and less reliable and support more and more spotty.
Warrantees are short, expensive, and difficult to use.

The list of things that went wrong since I bought this product is long:
1) As I followed the directions in the manual to install the software on my computer, all of my backup (from my old palm) was erased! Yep, all of it gone! No warning. The manual said it would automatically be transferred. Nope! It's gone. When we called Palm customer service, we were told we were supposed to rename folders before installing but that was not listed in the manual!
2)As I plugged my old palm back in to try to make a new back up, the system froze it. It killed my old palm!
3)It took my husband about 2 hours on the phone, to go through the installation process. Turns out the installation software CD was defective and we had to go through a special online download.
4)I finally start using my palm, knowing that I'll have to reenter whatever information I can retrieve (from my cellphones, etc...) manually. After just half an hour of working with it, I get a fatal alert message,while trying to add a note to a task.
That was the final draw. I returned it and will be looking for something else.
A few other things. Why does the upgraded version of the PALM software not have features that were available in the previous versions of PALM?
the calculator does not work the same.
Don't get me started with Graffiti 2!
And to add a note to a specific event that is recurring, you can't just go to details/add note (that will add the note to all of the events!), you have to go to menu, add note. Why would they change something like this?
Very unhappy with PALM. Very unhappy!
PS: I had been using a basic Zire for the past few years without a glitch, my display suddenly started fading which is why I was looking at a replacement.
Tungsten E2 Handheld.......2007-12-19
When I purchased the handheld, I knew nothing about them, however as I played around with the device, I found that it is a very useful, compact device. The information it contains is very helpful.
Unfortunately, I purchased a pre-owned unit and did not receive any information with it, but there is a wealth of information on the 'net to help with the use of this unit. I'm looking forward to hours of enjoyment as I obtain the necessary accessories for the unit.

I have owned the E2 for over a year now and I have not had a single problem with it. I use it for the calender, memos, notes, contacts, and as a bookreader.
In July, 2007 I purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. I installed the original software that came with the E2(not Vista compatable at that time) and after checking compatability mode was able to still use the software. However, now Palm has a compatable version of the software on their website and I'm using that with no problems.
The battery is fair and depends on how much you use the device. If it's used alot then the battery will have to charged more often then if you only use it once or twice a day. The display is bright and easy to see.
I also have the wi-fi card and have had no problems using that either, as long as I am within range of a signal. I was using bluetooth to sync before I got a new computer but I can't now. However, that is not a palm issue that is an issue with the manufacture of the bluetooth dongle I have.
Overall, I would recommend this product to others.

This is an excellent product. It is the perfect solution to the component problem after you purchase a plasma TV. The TV is all compact against the wall and then there is the cable box and DVD player and all and the problem of where to put them. I researched for about a month before I finally decided on this product and I was in great anticipation that it would give me the neat and sleek look that I wanted. This product was the perfect solution and I am so very pleased with the product. All the horrible wires were concealed and it looks great against the wall under the TV. It is a well made product and the instructions were easy for the install. This is an excellent product!!!! 7 stars out of five.
It works to hold your stuff, but..........2007-12-20
The gray cord cover is plastic and has a cheap look to it. I painted mine to suit the wall on which it was hung, which turned out very nice. The mount itself is sturdy, and works well. Some of the instructions are a pain, as with the shelf bumper (between shelf and glass) the illustration and instructions were incomprehensible as the parts I had looked nothing like what the instructions described. The problem I have now is that I can't hide all the wires because the thing just isn't accommodating to more than one or two units, which I have 4 including the video output switch to the projector.
So it's nice, nicer if you paint it, and if you don't have too many units to cover wires to.

If you have quality glass, like the Canon L series, then you need quality filters. the B+W are made from ground optical glass, not a piece of plain glass like as you see in the tiffen and hoyas filters (even the expensive ones are still cheap grade glass). Only B+W and Heliopan put the time and $$ into making filters that are designed to be used with your quality lenses and not distort and reduce the optical quality of them. I have a Heliopan as well, and I prefer the B+W a little bit more as its a brass ring and not aluminum and thus does not bind up as easy, and thats important when you want to change filters quickly! If you use a cheap filter on a pro grade lens, you are wasting your money, on the lens and the filter as the filter just hurt your image quality, and thus you lowered the quality of your lens! In filters, like lenses, you get what you pay for!!!
I shoot in all kinda of weather conditions, from sunny and warm, to windy and cold or snowy, and I have never had any major issues with any of my B+W filters acting up! I prefer the MRC, but even their entry level one is ground glass, so you still get a great quality filter at that price point.
You need a UV filter on all your lenses, as it helps to protect your front element, as I have seen many lenses saved when bumped or dropped by the UV filter. If you are outdoors shooting or around kids or food at all, you have to have a UV filter no matter what! The B+W does not degrade your optical quality from a quality pro-series lens, like a Canon L Series, where a lower grade window glass filter would, like all the Tiffen, Hoys, etc. Even the Canon filters are not ground glass, and thus why I dont use them! Just be aware if you are using good filters, you can't blame a bad image or blurry shot on the glass or filter then, you will have to own up to actually taking a bad picture every once and a while... :)

This is a 77mm filter. Obviously you paid good money for your lens, so why get a $20 lens with cheap window glass that will just degrade your pictures? Sure, any filter will protect your lens from dust and scratches, but why not get one that actually reduces haze and helps your images?
I would say that this particular filter is great, but it should be the cheapest you should go when buying a UV filter for a nice lens (and most 77mm lenses are pretty nice). Some people would say that this one is not good enough, but I have 2 of them for different 77mm lenses, and they work great.
I learned the hard way though. I bought a canon 50mm prime lens and figured the best thing to get would be a canon UV haze filter. Bad idea. I got so many strange light reflections at night and if anything, it just made my pictures less clear. I ended up removing that piece of junk and my picture quality suddenly improved. Since then, I will only buy quality filters from names like B&W and Hoya. Bottom line with optical products - you get what you pay for. So why put a $30 filter on a $800-$2000 lens? You might as well not use a filter at all - and get better results.

I felt I had to write these comments after reading all of the other reviews on this company's filters. Having been a working photographer for more years than I care to remember, my main reason for settling on B+W filters was/is their optical correction capabilities, as well as the "obvious to the touch" construction quality.
The brass rings never bind (often a problem with aluminium rings), so you'll never find yourself struggling & cursing while trying to remove it! Smooth as silk.
The primary function of any UV filter is to counteract the presence of haze, something mostly noticeable over long distance. Therefore, the only true benefit comes when shooting scenic panoramas with wide lenses, or the exact opposite; long telephoto work. In fact, telephoto/long zoom lenses are the ones that seem to benefit the most, be it with either film or digital. Don't get suckered into this "Designed for Digital" sales-pitch either. Some of my filters are years old, and function perfectly well on newer digital cameras. Even B+W themselves are guilty of this by having the nerve to place the very same type of filter in a silver ( brushed aluminium?) ring in lieu of the usual black one, stick the word DIGITAL on it, AND charge extra for it! Cheeky!
Many people I've met over the years have made the mistake of buying cheap, almost useless filters for high quality lenses, and for all the good they do, they might as well be shooting through a window pane! If you're going to buy a high quality optic, then do your research on filters, too. They are an absolutely essential part of the optical train. Among photographers, it's always been a bone of contention!
I personally haven't come across any other filters (apart from Heliopan: apparently both fall under the corporate umbrella of Schneider Optiks anyway) that can cut through murky haze quite as effectively as B+W's. I'm no optical engineer, so I have no idea how the company has gone about it, I only know that it works extremely well. Crisp, well-defined images in situations where lesser lights may likely have failed.
In what is now going to seem like a contradiction, not all B+W filters are capable of this high level of correction. You'll notice that they often come in two, and sometimes three different labelings at vastly different prices, (something that some unscrupulous dealers have been known to take advantage of!) so watch what you're buying.
If it's going to be just a protection filter (no real advantage in B+W here), or used primarily for Macro work, then the plain or Single-coated ones will suffice. However, if your intention is to do landscapes, or a lot of Tele work, then the Multi-coated version is essential. Just look for the "#010 UV-Haze MRC (2C)" on the inner front of the ring.
You may have also noticed that B+W manufacture slim-mount filters (more costly) especially for wide-angle lenses. A point worth noting is that this particular type of filter has a wider-than-usual front, so comes supplied with its own slip-on Schneider lens cap (in this case, 95mm, on a 77mm filter), meaning that you cannot use the original one supplied with the lens. The only real drawback is the rather fiddly fitting of the filter if you're using a lens hood (advisable) as it must be attached AFTER fitting the hood. Not easy, I can tell you!
To be honest, I don't see any great advantage in these w/a versions unless you're using a full-frame sensored model (or a film body) with an extremely wide-angle lens. The standard models do not vignette at a 17mm setting on my digital bodies (1.3x/EFL 22mm), or on an EOS-1V, but I can't speak for anything wider.
One note here for anyone with a large aperture, drop-in filter type lens.... B+W MRC filters in both 48mm & 52mm will slip in perfectly, unlike some others. The difference to the eye may be purely a figment of my imagination, but I still feel it is noticeable!
If you're also in the market for a Circular Polarizer, and you don't mind spending twice the usual price, then look no further than B+W's Kaesemann MRC model. It knocks the socks off anything out there by a mile!

Granted it is just a simple filter but this filter helps protect my very expensive Canon L series glass and because it is multi coated it helps with reflective glare and haze that would otherwise ruin some very special memories. If you are not going to buy this particular filter, definately buy a multi coated filter. Why spend big bucks on quality glass and not take advantage of everything that expensive lens offers by going cheap on its protection, it is a no brainer in my mind.

Lenses are expensive. This filter isn't let the dust get on the cheap part not the expansive one.
I know that that this filter is supposed to remove UV, but I don't think I have ever lost a photo due to UV. Plus photoshot can fix color casts anyway.

B+W UV-Haze 1X MRC filter.......2007-12-25
Purchased the 58mm version of this to protect the lens on a Cannon S5 IS (I am of the old school of protecting lenses). The construction is as solid as a rock and the filter element is crystal clear. I went with the B&W because of the brass outer ring. This filter will mate to an aluminum Lensmate adapter (highly recommended). Aluminum to aluminum can seize. Aluminum to plastic will bind (under certain conditions) but brass does not have that interactive problem under normal (non-maritime) conditions. Therefore, this filter can buffer between the Lensmate adapter and anything I want to screw into the female threads of this filter. Brass and B+W are a good thing (so Martha would say).

I bought this filter for my Canon 50mm f/1.4. The 50mm lens consistently gives me my top images so I wanted a good quality filter for it. My main goal here is protection of my lens, but at the same time I wanted something that didn't degrade my images. I usually get lower quality filters but this time decided to splurg for the expensive one.
My first impression was that this thing actually has some weight to it. It feels like you're actually getting something. When you pick it up, you can really notice a difference in lower quality filters (I usually bought Hoya or something from Best Buy in the past). This is well built.
Second impression is that this filter is *crystal* clear. My other filters are not as noticeably clear as this.
Now, when I have taken photos with this, I have still gotten the nice crisp clear shots I normally got with my 50mm. So it's protecting the lens and keeping my shots clear--exactly what I want from it. You may get exactly the same with a cheaper filter, I didn't try anything else. All I can tell you is that this filter delivered.
Also, I don't think I saw it listed in the specs, but this is the MRC model (meaning Pro grade).

Great quality in B+W and no complaints with this filter. It is lubricated so you can turn it and the oil made it onto on of my cleaning cloths. I guess this would happen with any circ. polarizer. Slight vingetting on wide angle (10mm-17mm) lenses. Get the slim one if it will bother you.

I've owned 5 different B+W MRC filters and all have been excellent. This filter is no exception. The polarizing capacity is very strong with this filter and it does an excellent job of reducing glare, reducing blue polarized light in the sky, reducing reflection, etc. Build quality is very high and the level of rotating friction feels just right.
The MRC designation is your cue that this filter will not produce ghost images when used on digital SLRs due to an anti-reflectivity coating put on both surfaces of the glass. Hence the large increase in price when the MRC designation is present.
How to make the sky REALLY blue........2006-04-03
Ever wondered how some pictures get that really dark blue sky in them? It's really as easy screwing on a MRC Polarizer filter, and while you're at it you might as well use the B+W.
Polarizer filters increase the saturation as seen by the camera which helps to make the deep colors you see in photo books. Additionally, a Polarizer filter will remove haze from outdoor shots making them sharper AND will cut reflection from water, windows, and foliage - something you can't do yourself afterwards with Photoshop.
Keep in mind that using a filter like this will decrease your light by two stops and that you have to rotate the filter every time you move to ensure you're getting the right effect. Also, you have to use a filter like this only under the right conditions. Most of the time you won't need it but when you do it will make your picture A LOT better.
Since you're attaching a filter to the end of your lens you're introducing the possibility of degrading the final image. While you can use a B+W (or a Heliopan) filter with any lens BEWARE of using the cheap filters you find at your local camera store. If you're taking pictures that are important to you it is absolutely worth the extra money to get a good filter for your lens.

I bought this recently and am using it on my ef 28-135mm lens on my Canon 40d. Fits perfectly and no more worries for my lens. Just to clarify, this is exactly the "MRC" version. just that amazon has a slightly different title as multi coated 2c. I never take out the filter off my camera except when I am using it with flash indoors. The lens flare is noticable when used with flash indoors since there is too much bright light reflection from the walls closeby. (But this is unavoidable with any filter that is out there). B+W UV MRC is regarded as the best by all and I certainly agree with it.

This seems to be a really well-made lens. The only problem is that the ring is so thick that on my camera I get vignetting in the corners of most of my photos. Next time I would definitely choose a lens that's thinner. I'm using a Nikon D200 with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens.
BW filters are great German optics for protection and for UV.......2007-09-26
Whenever I buy a new lens, I get a BW UV MCR filter to go with it. It provides a protective cover for the lense incase something happend to hit the front of the lens. It also keeps dust and any liquid from getting into the front of the actual lense. Also this filter does not affect the color or the quality of your photos.
Also having a flat glass in front of the camera lens make it easier to clean as well. If you are buying an expensive lens and you want to keep the glass in great condition, then I highly recommend it.

A bit pricey but it was well worth it. Installation was easy especially if you already have your TV mounted in the wall studs. Just follow the same studs. This is mounted below a 40" Sony and looks great. The color is a dark wood brown. Not exactly black but you can hardly notice unless you have a spotlight in the area. Anything smaller and the mount may look too big (my opinion). Anyway, it looks great! As far as the WAF (wife acceptance factor) it rates very high! Four stars because of price. If it was a in the $150 price range it would earn 5.

OmniMount MWFS Adjustable 2 Shelf Wall System w/ Cable Management
I spent days reviewing other products before settling on this one even though this was the most expensive. The product arrived the day after I ordered even with the free shipping. Packaging was great and the assembly was fairly intutive. There are no written instructions just pictures. That is my only gripe. The construction of the frame is solid.
There is plenty of room to hide the cables. The overall finish is very good.
I intend to post a picture after I have all the components fully setup on the shelf.
Great LCD wall furniture!.......2007-12-02
I purchased the Moda series wall furniture from Amazon along with an Omnimount tilting wall mount for my Samsung 40 in. LCD. I found that the Moda wall furniture was fairly easy to install, but it is essential that you measure very carefully in order for the top wiring cover to be flush with the bottom of the TV so that the wires don't show. Other than that it was pretty simple to mount the frames, install the shelves, hook up the components and hide the wires behind the wiring covers. It looks like a very professional job and it only took about two or three hours to do everything. There is one issue that is rather annoying. The whole idea of buying the Moda system was so that I could hide the wiring without cutting a lot of holes in the wall. It certainly hides the wiring except where the power cords exit the bottom of the bottom wiring cover. So, I still have some unsightly wires and my surge protector extending below the bottom of the wall furniture. I fixed that by placing a leather bench under the wall furniture, which gives it a nice look but still doesn't completely solve the wiring situation. Other than that, I'm quite happy with the entire set up. I recommend it.

It is sturdy, and I like the way the cables can be hidden behind the panel.
The TV ends up high on the wall, and the mounting instructions were confusing which is why I give it only 4 stars.

This shelf is great and as sturdy as can be. I had to readjust the wires several times and it is a breeze.
