Big Mistake buying this........2007-12-23
I thought I had performed a thorough evaluation of home theater receivers, Onkyo seemed to have great ratings and a good "bang for buck" value. I however got a lemon, and have found out that 30% of the units are bad for HDMI operation.
Google "Onkyo popping". My receiver pops after about 20 minutes of HDMI viewing, and the popping noise is very annoying and begins to increase. I had to buy an expensive fan to help reduce the popping, but this has not stopped the problem. Onkyo told me to reset the unit- and this did not work. The unit is very cool with my special fan, but the popping continues. Onkyo was supposed to call me back (after the 30 minute wait on the phone), but that promise was never kept. My wife wants to kill me because we spent a bunch of money on our home theater and it is not fun to watch with the popping noise.
I have never left a review in my life, but this seems to be the only way to voice my disappointment that Onkyo refuses to even accept that there is a problem, despite the 15 pages of complains.

I was a little nervous about ordering this state of the art receiver since I hadn't upgraded my sound system since 1985 but I felt I had to with the purchase of a 50" HDTV. As it turns out, the manual and remote that comes w/ it is very thorough, making setup easy. The included stickers you attach to the positive side of your speaker cable makes it impossible to hook them up w/ the wrong polarity.. unless you're color-blind. I really liked the auto calibration routine they suggest you run the first time you turn on the receiver and test the speakers. It automatically sets your front, center and rear surround speaker levels based on where you're sitting, using the included microphone. After that, w/ the remote it's easy to pick the right listening mode for each component. Even my wife thinks it's easy to operate, and that's saying something. I attached a DVD/VCR recorder and my cable DVR box to the unit using HDMI cables, then a HDMI cable to the HDTV. That's another reason I chose this unit..for the HDMI capability. HDMI cables carry both the audio and video digital signals in one cable, thus eliminating multiple cables for each. This receiver, after choosing your source, automatically upconverts the digital signal to hi-def, another plus. With all the alphabet audio signals it supports: DOLBY truHD, DTS, XM, Sirius and a bunch of others, you're set for the future. Enjoy.
Not that great........2007-12-21
I bought this along with a Yamaha VR-661. I thought this would be better as it has HDMI 1.3 and the Yamaha didn't. I'm returning it back as the sound quality is just not that great. I have my Martin Logan's hooked up to it and the Yamaha is just soo much better. I'm not so sure about the video but the audio is just much more important to me.

The receiver has matched my expectations providing good sound quality, easy connections and processing via the HDMI links. I'm using it exclusively with digital inputs and driving a 5.1 speaker system.
The remote control also simplifies overall operation by controlling, cable, box, TV, and DVD. I was surprised it supported some of the more specialised operations of other equipment like guide operation and recording modes of the cable hard disc box.
Set up was easy, and the automated speaker balancing worked well.
One minor niggle on the radio receiver is that it does not seem to be possible to get it to remember a mono setting for a particular station setting. That would have been useful for a couple of marginal radio stations that are best listened to in mono to reduce hiss.
Overall I feel this unit gives very good functionality and performance in its price range.

I almost bought the 505 and decided on the 605. I'm soooo happy I did. The HDMI a/v passthroughs, ease of setup, and typical Onkyo sound quality all make this receiver fun to work with. My 605 drives my Polk RM20's and Polk PSW111 subwoofer. Very pleased with the sound. The only issue I have relates to the Onkyo iPod adapter. I wish there was a specific set of inputs for the adapter. I ended up connecting the audio using the tape inputs and ran video directly from the adapter to my TV. This works fine. For the money, this receiver is a great value...

Great Sound.......2007-12-25
Great sound. The automatic speaker set up worked great. Set up with two Infinity Beta 50s biamped and a beta 50 center speaker. rear speakers and sub woofer are Kenwoods from old system (I plan to replace them soon). The Odyssey set up was very accurate, it determines the distance of the speakers from a test sound. I measured the distances and compared it to what it said and it was right on. Even my old rear and subwoofer sound very good with this receiver. Stereo sound with just the two Beta 50s sounds incredible. HDMI switching is great. I have not used it to up convert video signals since I am running HDMI for every thing. Movies in surround sound sound awesome as expected.

I received my receiver yesterday. I bought from Amazon. Got great price and great free shipping - received in 3 days from when I ordered.
The setup and installtion was a walk in the park. I didnt even read the manual - now I have to agree I have lot of experience in dealing with these but still I would say the onscreen setup and menus are very intutive. I changed the name of the game/TV to PS3 etc very easily.
Did the Speaker setup and it was great and easy.
I saw terminator 2 (blu ray) on PS3 and it was just fabulous. I had Yamaha Rx-V2400 earlier and I thought that was amazing. I even thought of not buying this receiver and just buying the DMP-BD10AK because it has 7.1 analog audio (I know I know that was idiotic thought but still) and now I am way happier with the results. Even my novice wife (who had questions about my decision to buy the receiver) also acknowledged the audio looks superb - worth the price.
Apart from the audio now I have one HDMi cable running to my projector (still have the component there) and I can switch the inputs to the receiver without switching the projector input. That was not a issue for me but it will make the theater usage much simpler for my wife and dad.
I do not have any heating issues at all. The receiver has 7" of open space on the top and the back of the entertainent system is also open. I can feel the heat coming out of the box but its getting dissipated very good. I am at advantage here because my system is in the home theater in the basement and the way I have the entertainment system setup - its not visible (remote works via the universal RF transmitter) so I can keep the back side open with wires showing. But that I think is the key to cool operation of this unit. If I keep this unit in any enclosed unit (typical credenza style entertainment center) it will heat up.
The only issue I saw was (as noted by others) there was considerable delay in switching the inputs. But given the price that downside is acceptable to me at least.
Before buying this unit I contemplated buying the TX-SR875 - I am happy I did not spend the extra $550. This unit will pass the 1080p input from any HDMI source (PS3 for me) to the projector/TV. I do not see any other 1080p source in the distant future than the HD-DVD or blu ray players. BTW I dont think any of these will win - it will be standard definition download - in 2-3 years. Remember DVD-Audio/SACD war?? who won - MP3!!! So dont worry I think what ever you buy(blu ray or HD DVD) it is going to go down the drain soon when somebody will provide you will instant movie downloads for $2 per movie!!! Back to SR875 Vs 805 I right now have a 720p projector (1080p is for next year). The PS3 works as the network connector through my wifi connection to it and I can see all the data I have on the 1TB of storage on my main PC. So the only functionality I think I lost was the video upscaling of my non-highdef dish connection. I have never seen the upscaling work to the extent where I can justify paying any money for it. So I think 805 is the way to go!!!!
BTW I noticed that the instruction manual is the same for SR875 and SR805!!! That tells me how different they are..

I had the receiver in for about 2 weeks and I had to send it off for repairs. It never upscaled any image up to 1080p or anything close to it. Additionally, the display didnt work property. I could have all speakers working and only the left and right front speakers were displayed on the receiver.
On a positive note, the help line was in fact very helpful.

The TX-SR805 we purchased with the primary focus of THX certification and zoned outputs arrived sooner than expected, and free shipping. The set up did require reading the instruction manual, but the remote control functions slipped seamlessly into our existing component lash-up. The addition of this unit with the satellite receiver dual Digital Video Recorder and wide screen made the High Definition content even more brilliant. The audio zone control will fit snuggly into the whole house audio speaker arrangement. Great buy, just price and right on time.

Hi Everybody,
When you dee the box coming, it says it's a DVD player and that's what it is.
It's a DVD player which happens to have an integrated amplifiers that includes the speakers and a wireless kit for the rear.
The wireless kit it's an infrared module you install on the DVD player, an external amplifier where you connect an infrared receiver, both rear speakers and then to an AC outlet.
The wireless it's not what i expected but it's ok.
Take the facts and decide acordingly.

Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W Theater System with Wireless Speaker Kit
I am very happy with the sound and video quality of this system. However I bought this to be a true wireless system. It is my own fault for apparently not researching it enough. I figured I would write a review to avoid others making the same mistake I made. For me I assumed that the wireless kit meant that there were no wires going to the 2 rear speakers. This is not the case there is a wireless portion that jumps from your entertainment center to a rear box which you then WIRE your 2 rear speakers to. You then have to have a spot where you can put this box. My wireless speaker kit is sitting in a drawer of my entertainment center because it would have made a larger mess of wires than just hard wiring it. Which is what I did in the end so I should have bought the non-wireless version for less money and been more satisfied. There are definitely rooms that this system would be nice for mine was just not one of them.

As many of the other reviewers mentioned below. This system does NOT have any additional optical input which means you cannot get 5.1 sound out of your cable box, Xbox or HD receiver.
If however what you are looking for is a great surround sound system suitable for a room of 15x15 or lesss this is a great choice. To clarify a few things that confused me below. ANY XBR series sony will work just fine with this. There is no such thing as an XBRV or XBRS The V and S series TVs from sony are the similar LCDs with different frames and processors. The XBR2 syncs perfectly. But for what it is worth, all that means is you can use a single remote to control your DVD player and TV at the same time.
To add, if you are content with PRO-LOGIC suround sound (simulated surround sound based off of 2 channel stereo inputs) then you CAN use this system to connect to your VCR TV or other device with an analog input. It has this functionality. ALSO. - there is a 1/8" input on the front of the box suitable for playing your ipod. It just will not charge it.
Regarding the DVD player and changer - it is plenty fast - takes about 10 seconds to swap discs. The upscaling to 1080i is great and the sound is fantastic. Our houde literally thunders with deep bass and really immerses you in the film. The DVD player has some other nice features too including the ability to search by scene and time stamp (a bit better than the standard DVD menu. you can also bookmark favorite scenes. The tuner works finee. Not the worlds greatest receiver but perfectly fine for the average user.
So for me, the only downside is the lack of the optical input. It sure would have been nice - 2 would have been even better. MAJOR oversight by Sony, but for the most part, the HD channels and anything broadcast does not have 5.1 ANYWAY. So if you can live with playing your sbox in stereo or using the pro-logic function to utilize all 5 speakers - then this is a great system for the money.
The wireless set ups is easy. Infrared transmitter and receiver are realtively small and easy to mount or set on furniture. The rear spears require their own amplifier so it does require one 120v outlet and yes the rear speakers need to connect to the amp. People that are complaining about this not truly being wireless are out of their minds. Literally, yes it is not COMPLETELY wireless, but in order to achiteve that each speaker woudl require its OWN amp (making it bigger) and they would have to be battery powered (which would suck). So get over it. It's as wireless as technology allows and its great to not have to run wires across the living room to the rear set.
All in all I give it 4 of 5 for the missing optical inputs and the lack of EQ. What do you expect for $350?

Had a Samsung system that decided to stop working and it was wireless. I found this Sony system and was wireless to rear speakers which is what I wanted. It is easy to setup and has HDMI. HDMI is Great for HD. I had it seup in 30 min this included taking out the Samsung system. Setup was easy and was watching dvd in HD with upscale in under 45 min. Would recommend to anyone that does not want to run speaker wires to the rear from the front.

When I received this 100lb. pkg., I was overwhelmed. After unpacking the box, I decided to tackle it one piece at a time. After following directions for qQuick Set-up, I could not believe what I saw and what I heard. Magnificent sound, beautiful music and what surround sound effects for a HD Digital movie on our 92" fixed screen! I've adjusted the sound with the audessey to perfect the surround sound. When we have people over or even when my wife and I look and listen at a movie, it is mind boggling. We always say...it better than going to the movies! We do not need to go to the movies anymore. No need to. What makes it better is that a Home Theater set-up is more personal because you are in your own home and with the Onkyo set-up...WOW! Thanks Onkyo!
Great Sound, but know its HDMI capabilities!.......2007-12-13
Above everything, this system is a great value that is likely to produce far superior sound and be more "future-proof" than anything else in its price range. It's rocking out my living room.
However, please be aware that the HDMI is only a video pass-through. I rated it 4-stars because of the limited HDMI capability. The receiver will not accept the audio input from the HDMI. Because HDMI is the only cable which will carry a 7.1 HD-surround signal digitally - coaxial or optical will only carry the 5.1 (maybe 6.1?) signal - you will need pair the reciever with an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player which decodes the 7.1 audio internally and has 7.1 analog outputs in order to fully utilize the 7.1 surround setup. I have not seen many such disc players, and the ones that are out there are very expensive still.
Most modern computer motherboards have 7.1 analog output, so my plan is to build a HTPC when the HD-DVD and Blu-ray drives are priced more reasonably. (I also hope that a CableCard 2.0 TV tuner is available for homebrew HTPCs by that time, but that is a different issue entirely.)

Don't Leave Home Without It!.......2007-12-20
This is an absolute must-have for those who cannot be without their iPods and music while on the go. Perfect for the beach, a hotel room or visiting friends & relatives who aren't (and may never be) part of the iPod generation. I researched endlessly before purchasing my Altec/Lansing home system instead of the Bose (price, treble/bass functions, etc). With that major purchase out of the way, I still needed something that was highly portable but offered great sound output and had a generous battery life. I found it in this product. What a perfect companion piece. I take it easily from the office, back to home and then out with me again whenever the need dictates. Perfect, built-in carrying case. The only (and I mean only) issue I had was with the battery compartment cover. One of the prongs broke off when I was putting in a new set of batteries after receiving the item. Quite delicate. But, no worries. I slapped a piece of white duct tape on it and voila, it sits perfectly on a level surface and I can't see the tape. Other than that - this is a winner, hands-down.

I was so impressed after hearing the quality of these small speakers that I ordered a second one for my daughter-in-law's small dvd player that needs sound enhancement for some dvd movies when playing. It is well worth the money, that's for sure!
Good Travel Speakers.......2007-12-08
This products work good for travel. It is small and compact and the case keep the speakers safe from bumps. I use it with a SanDisk player but it will work with any player with a mini plug input. The 3 d sound helps. The only con is if you have music with deep base. You may need to modify your base to not overload the speakers and distort the sound. Of course this is expected with speakers of this type and size. Overall a very good product to listen to your tunes in a hotel room while traveling.

Best little ipod speaker.......2007-12-02
I bought this for my husband because sometimes his ipod is safer not hanging on his hip. I had tried another little one and it was awful but the reviews said this was a hit so I took a chance. I can plug it into my USB wall adapter (whatever it's called) that Apple makes, but the batteries have been good for almost two months now. It also folds up compact and protected and easy to carry around. I'm not good at the review thing, but I would highly recommend this product. I would buy one again if I needed another.

This system has excellent sound quality and for amazons reduced price is a bargain. I looked at many other home theater systems at best buy and circuit city and this system has the best sound out of all the systems that I looked at. The only problem that I have with it is that I feel there can be a little more volume, that's why I only rated it 4 stars.

This is a great system. So easy and versatile to use. Set-up was very easy as long as you read the instructions. I love the fact that the rear speakers are wireless (You would never know they are). You don't even have to use the stands for the speakers. I have them mounted to the wall and they look like they had always been there. My wife hates the fact that it takes a little longer to switch disks around. It is well worth it though.

I have been waiting for 6-9 months for prices to drop.
They finally did. $499.00 at Amazon. I purchased mine at the Sony Outlet store. Assembly of the speakers took a little time but once complete
the system filled my room with sound. I have 55" WEGA HD Sony TV and COX
DVR. I hooked up the DVR with optical audio to the Sony system.
All worked very well and the sound is amazing. Try Saving private Ryan
in surround sound. It is outstanding. I have tried DVD, HDTV, and CDs and all sounded great. One big surprise is SACD. This is a dying or dead technology and it is a shame. Try a SACD audio disk and the sound is absolutely incredible. All and all a great system. The loading of the DVD is slow. It has a 5 CD holder and they are stacked so like an elevator it has to go up and down as you change disks. This takes a little time but worth the wait. Surround sound adds so much to a HDTV. At $499.00 this is a great value. If you get this system a great place to buy SACDs is Amazon.com.

PROS: Excellent System appearance wise. Sound Ratings on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 10. Lives up to the Sony name by delivering excellent sound, and the features that go with it.
CONS: Hookup can be somewhat confusing and instructions for hookup could be structured better. Explanations for proper hookup does not go into enough detail for using correct cables, and/or which setup should be used. Hookup for AM and FM radio very cheaply made which causes pause for the Sony name, by not being what is expected by the Sony brand.

I purchased this unit in September 2007. I was debating between this one ($589 on sale on Amazon, $721 regular price) and the Sony DAV-IS10, which is the ultra compact unit with speakers the size of golf balls and a price of $645 on Amazon.
I ended up picking this unit because it has the wireless rear speakers so I could reduce the clutter. Also, the speakers matched my Panasonic Silver colored 42" plasma. The speakers remind me of Bang and Olufsen speakers and are very loud. The set also comes with shorter stands to use on a desktop. I opted for the taller stands. I like that they have a stand built in so you can rearrange them around the room when you want.
Right after I bought this unit, Sony came out with the DAV-IS10 with white speakers instead of black. That's very cool -- however, there is no wireless on that unit so the speaker wire would still be going up the walls and to the back of the room. I saw the IS10 in the Sony Store and the head unit is very cool -- it has touch sensitive play controls on the top that are illuminated. Also, the remote on that unit feels more expensive.
All in all, I'm very happy with the set. You might want to also checkout Sony's new model that matches the blu-ray players. It goes for a lower price of $499. Amazon has a bookshelf version and Sonystyle has a version with floorstands that looks pretty cool. The benefit of the blu-ray matched system is that it has more hd inputs so you can work with your hd cable and hd player. My building has a non-hd cable installed so I'm just going with that. The unit I bought only has 1 hdmi input and one optical digital in. For the price, you are getting a great system.
This is my second Sony surround system on floor stands. The other unit I purchased in 2001 for $800 and is still going strong for my bedroom. This system I placed in the living room.

I have just talked to Onkyo Tech Support rep Erik:
It's not enough to have HDMI connection in order to get Dolby Digital 5.1 sound from DVD player. Receiver requires to have Coaxial or Optical connection set, otherwise it plays only PLII 2.1. This quite diminishes the value of HDMI connectors in this system, and raises question on credibility of Onkyo advertised specifications in general.

First of all I would like to say that the shipping and packaging on this system was awesome and everything was in perfect shape. As for the system it is also a great buy and sounds great in my home. It took a little getting used to the on screen display and getting it sat for the HDMI but when it all comes together is an awesome system. This thing rocks

I bought this Onkyo Home theater in a box system and boy isn't it good! Lots of input points so you can virtually connect everything you have and more without needing to ever switch wires. The quality of the sound is great + it does up converting of S-vdo, component input, analog av input to HDMI which is good for people having HDTV (which I dont have at the moment). Another cool thing is that it transfers both audio and video along the same HDMI output cable! Great if you own a PS3. Thumbs up from me!

To put it simply, I bought more system than I needed in this case. Granted, now that it's installed, I am thrilled with the sound quality and features this system promised...and delivered.
However, for a guy who has gotten used to everything working out of the box once it's all plugged in right, this was a frustrating experience. I KNOW it says to read through the manual "thoroughly" before trying to turn the bloody thing on, but who does that? As it turns out, once you plug the INCLUDED DVD player and TV into the receiver via the INCLUDED HDMI cable, insert a DVD, change the input to DVD on the receiver, and press PLAY...nothing happens. Well, the DVD spun up, and said it was playing, but...no sound, no picture. I thought HDMI was supposed to make this simple. However, as the manual plainly states, you have to use let the receiver know you want to actually USE HDMI via a setting (which is defaulted to OFF) even if it's the only thing plugged in, even if it comes packaged to use HDMI out of the box. No "plug and play" here. Then, after reading the manual "thoroughly" I still had a two hour tinker session ahead of me to get sound working from my satellite receiver. It was an obscure setting buried in a sub-menu of the receiver, but I finally found it and got it working.
This is NOT a theater-in-a-box system designed for those who want as little agony from setting up a surround system as possible. With 7.1, you're already looking at devoting an afternoon to running and hiding wire all over your living room, but with this, plan on spending your night getting the settings to a point where it will all just function properly. It's like the AV version of installing Linux. It's great once you're done, but God help you if you run into any problems along the way.

The Cables To Go 40324 3-Play Component Video Digital Audio Selector gave new life to my high definition system. I had run out of component inputs on my HD TV, and TOSlink audio inputs on my audio amplifier.
This switch supports 3 component video devices and their TOSlink audio. Signal quality of both the video and the audio is excellent. The switch handled 15 foot cables without any problems.
I was able to teach the infrared remote control commands to my home theater master remote, and set up macro commands in the home theater remote. That arrangement provides one button switching to any video device in the system.
The lack of support for coaxial digital audio means this switch is not for everyone. But it does its intended job well.

The selector works flawlessly. I have an HD-DVD, XBOX 360, and Wii running through it with no sound or video quality loss.
The remote is not the best, but if you have a remote with a learning function, you can program it for the AV selector.

Great product, clean, small, fits in well doesn't stick out. Doesn't add any noticible picture issues. Codes already in Logitech Harmony software (that's more of a plus for the harmony software) either way very nice. Everything I run through this is at 1080i, again no picture issues at all. Would reccomend for anyone who got into HD too early and doesn't have HDMI and doesn't want to buy a new TV yet.
good, but be careful re mixing digital and analog.......2007-12-08
If you have a mix of analog and digital audio, this unit doesn't help. fir instance, I bought the unit to solve the following issue. I wanted to route the following audio sources into my iPod HiFi speaker:
1. optical from my dvd player
2. analog from my tv player (it has no optical out)
3. optical from my airport express
The Apple HiFi has one input that is of the type that will take either an optical or analog input (but not both at the same time).
So, because the Impact Switcher doesn't convert audio from digital to analog (or vice versa), you must match the output from the Impact unit to your speaker or it won't work.
so, for me - because my idiotic, not that old TV has no optical out - it means that in order to get sound out of it, I have to degrade all of my signals in order to run the TV through the Impact and into the Apple Hi Fi. In other words, my dvd player and airport express have to send analog signals to the Impact.

I noted in one review that the tray came out when turn on,this also happened to me then it began to skip. When I pressed the open button nothing happened although it showed up on the led then I tried to shut it off and I had to press the button three times. it has been out for repair twice I now have the same problems. When I called customer service I felt that they gave me the run around. In all as I said never again will I buy a jvc product.

Defective Unit.......2007-10-10
When I received this unit, I opened to drawer and put in some CDs. Well the drawer would not close. I got disgusted and stopped trying to close the unit. I could not return the unit with damaging the drawer. I decided to call the manufacturer and get the name of an authorized repair shop in my area. I took the unit to that shop. I got the unit back a few days ago and it has been working fine.
After I took the unit to the repair shop, I e-mailed the company and relayed the above information and expressed that I was unhappy. I would have returned the unit if the drawer closed, but it would not close. Also, I can appreciate that I purchased this unit from a Retailer, it is the manufacturer's issue that the unit was defective. Anyway, long story short I got back an e-mail that I felt was very rude and unprofessional. Well this went from bad to worst, and after a few exchanges of e-mails, I ended up sending an e-mail replete with obscenities. I was pissed, not at the defective unit at this point, but at the horrible response from the company. Anyway, I eventually got an e-mail from another person at the company that was apologetic for the behavior of the employee that was sending me the rude and unprofessional e-mails.

I am satisfied with my new Onkyo receiver, it eats up all inputs and gives one HDMI output. My TV is now hanging with only one cable. Sound distribution is good but the only complain is I have to go about 60 volume level when I watch a movie. Over all it is good bet for the price I paid.
Great Receiver for the money.......2007-12-10
I did a lot of research before purchasing this receiver, but having great success with Onkyo receivers in the past, it was more of which model to buy. I considered this, and getting last years 674 model at a closeout price. While the 674 had an extra HDMI port, what really sold me on this one was the HD sound capability which leads me to believe I will be able to use this one for a couple of years. It's biggest benefit over my old receiver is the ability to plug multiple items into the receiver and use the HDMI upconverting to transfer the signal to the TV without having to switch TV inputs. I have it hooked up with 5.1 surround and used the Audessey to calibrate the speakers and the sound is really great. It works great with my "old" HDTV as well as my HD Tivo and it is a great upgrade over my old Onkyo from 7 years ago. I would definitely recommend this receiver to my friends

I'm diggin this receiver. When you first power it up theres no sound until you run the Speaker config. You can have any amount of speakers 2 through 7 with or without sub. You park a mic.(included) at your seating position. The unit test fires each speaker & determines how many are connected and how far. I was stunned to see the distance for each speaker displayed on screen was right on. Then unit adjusts the output level to each speaker based on your seating position. Nice feature. Surround Sound choices are endless it seems. Movie, Acoustic, Orchestra & on & on. Plenty of connection options. HDMI, Component, Composite, Optical & so on. I use it primarily for audio. Haven't tried the Video featues yet. My understanding is if your video source is HD it just passes it through but it will upconvert signals such as standard DVD and TV. The current Flat Panel HD TV's and DVD players have upconvert features already themselves so it may not be necessary to have them in your receiver. In any case you can connect all your components into receiver and have one feed into TV. Plenty of switching options. I think this is a very nice unit in a reasonable price range. Very pleased with it.
Powerful system.......2007-11-22
This receiver is a powerful system. Excellent connection capability with HDMI and the setup was very easy. System does get warm so make sure you have adequate ventilation. But I love the fact that now when I click on DVD on the receiver it automatically switches my T.V over and immediately picks up the signal from the dvd player. I have an Oppo and it links up immediately.
Great system to purchase if your in the arena for a new receiver.

The most complete receiver on the the market at that price. Others don't even come close in terms of value, performance,and features. Oh did I mention the 2 HDMI 1.3a ports and 90 Watts per channel. This receiver is also future proof, it will decode the next generation audio format such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD found in today's blue ray and HD DVD players. This should be best product of the year I highly recommend this receiver.
