Amazon.com Product Description

The WD-73733 is a mammoth 73-inch DLP (Digital Light Processing) rear-projection HDTV from Mitsubishi that incorporates the latest technologies for an accurate picture that is perfect for a large home theater system.

Giant Performance, Small Footprint
Because the latest Texas Instruments 1080P DLP chip is inside, this television yields the full 1920 x 1080 high-definition resolution with progressive scan, the highest quality HDTV standard today. With a television this size, offering more than two million pixels is important to prevent visible pixelation.

The WD-73733 supports the x.v.Color standard for 80 percent more color than standard HDTV. View larger. View back panel.

Despite the large screen size, the WD-73733 weighs less than 100 pounds and is only 17.5 inches deep. View larger.
The television can display any video signal that is connected to it. When a 1080p signal is the input, it passes through with no down conversion: The 1080p signal is maintained from beginning to end, giving the best picture quality. When a lower resolution is detected, whether it is 720p HD or a DVD, the signal is automatically scaled to display at 1080p, with minimal side effects and a very detailed picture.

The screen is huge and the technologies are many, but the unit itself weighs less than 100 pounds and is only 17.5 inches deep, which means it will fit into many decors.

More Color
The WD-73733 incorporates a slew of new technologies that combine to give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80 percent more color than standard HDTV.

The WD-73733 also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth, versus the previous 8-bit color depth. With Deep Color, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast.

Coupled with this technology is Mitsubishi's exclusive 6-Color Light Engine, which uses six primary colors instead of the traditional three to create more colors. Mitsubishi's Color 4D Noise Reduction, PerfectColor, and PerfectTint yield a wider color palette and the ability to fine tune the set to your exact preferences. The end result is a brighter, smoother, and more realistic picture than ever before.

Connections Galore
You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the WD-73733. It has three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player, HD DVD player, and still have an input left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one front), a front USB connection so you can display up to five-megapixel photographs, and two A/V inputs with S-Video. It has a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output.

The WD-73733 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

What's in the Box
WD-73733 73-inch DLP HDTV, remote control, two AA batteries, owner's guide, quick reference guide, quick connect guide, and product registration card.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars WOW! This TV is Great!.......2007-12-24

I am a previous owner of a Mitsubishi TV. I had a 65" Medallion that I have purchased 5 years ago. This TV still had a great picture even after 5 years of use, but I wanted to upgrade to 1080P HD. The 73" TV is awsome! The picture quality is amazing, and the features are great as well. The menu's and set up are simple also. I highly recommend this tv, it is beautiful!

5 out of 5 stars Biggest and best tv for the price!!!.......2007-12-18

This is a monster tv. I love it. Just expect about 15 feet of rom between you and the tv for optimal, awsome viewing.....

5 out of 5 stars Great large HDTV at great price.......2007-12-14

I just bought this TV and I was very impressed with both delivery (free white glove) and product.

The picture is truly excellent although some tweaking does improve the quality. This model offers six color adjustment as opposed to 3 (RGB) settings on most tv's. The picture is nice and bright, i turned the brightness up slightly from default factory setting while keeping the lamp at 6500k for maximum lifespan.

The physical appearence is very nice. Obviously not as "sexy" as a wall mounted flat screen but substantialy smaller than my previous 65 inch rear projection unit.

I purchased an oppo digital upconverting dvd player which i highly recommend (not all upconverting dvd's are equal). Once again, the up converted DVD's border on broadcast level HDTV signal.

Once again, i highly recommend this TV especially if your looking for a very large screen at an affordable price.

5 out of 5 stars Best of the mid-priced DLP projectors.......2007-12-12

I have owned this set for just a little under two weeks. The first thing I did was grab my Avia disk. After adjusting and calibrating, the set looks even better. i had a hard time choosing between this set and the Sony SXRD sets. In the end, I wanted 73" and I like the contrast and detail with the new 6 segment color wheel.

I've been shopping for a rear projection HDTV for over two years, and this is the one I finally decided was the one.

5 out of 5 stars My review.......2007-12-12

This TV is incredible! My neighbors watch my TV from their house! I cannot think of any cons with this TV. NONE!!! Sure the speakers aren't Bose quality, but they did fine until I upgraded to the surround sound, but hey, who buys one of these and does not upgrade the sound? A deal and a half. I had mine delivered to the door with the stand that is offered with it for $2,704. If that deal can be beat I'll wash my sister in laws Saturn!!! Read my review on the Onkyo surround sound system for more info.

5 out of 5 stars Must be Back-Engineered Alien Tecnology!.......2007-12-18

I own a Panasonic 26in HDTV,(LCD) A 50in Vizio HDTV (Plasma), a 55in Hatachi Ultravision TV (Rear Projection), Epson Projector (not the 1080p} and a 73in Mitsubishi (Box Model Rear Projection}...Except for the Old Ultravision, these TV have exceptional images...so I thought... until I got This DLP! Where are they getting this Technology? With this Mit you have to hook it up to HD sources to understand how truly unique it really is...It's a 1080p TV but it will upscale 480i,p to the point where you cant tell its not 1080p. However, when you Hook it to a HD satellite DVR Receiver,(or a Cable Company HD Box} a HD or Blu-Ray DVD player and a Stereo System Capable of a HDMI connection..your movie going days are over! The TV has AI thats unbelievable, it recgonizes anything thats hooked to it and gives you options of how you want to set it up...it insantly tells you what channels are 480 or 1080, but the most amazing thing of all is the Picture! No screendoor effect and the resolution and colors are simply unbelievable once you have everything hooked to HD sources and the Colors set right. You have a choice between Natural, Bright and Brillant...Brillant is the Place to be! NFL, Movies and regular TV will never be the same. Plasma, LCD all the others, your days are numbered. Theres no comparsion if the DLP is properly set up...Did I mention PC, PS3 and XBox-360? Hookups a breeze. You aint never Fragged until you Frag in 1080p on a 73in TV!! On the Downside: Price is high but dropping and you cant leave this TV on all day like most people do with their TVs, you'll be shelling out megabucks for a new lamp in a few months. This TV is made for Movies and Sports not Soap Operas and Variety Shows. I wouldn't be surprised if them Big-Head EBE's first glimpse of Earth was on a DLP display similar to this Awesome MIT!!!

4 out of 5 stars Awsome Picture ... But..........2007-12-18

First off, the picture is AWESOME.. The set looks sharp and the Netcommand once setup make life so easy for my wife. There are a few issues. Only 2 Color Temp Settings, Switching from one video input to another takes 10+ seconds as the set tries to figure out the Resolution. Sound out of the TV is only fair at best but most people will have a home theater so not a big issue. WAF (Wife Approval Factor) is off the charts. Several reviewers talked about excessive FAN noise, Not an issue with the unit I got. The only downside is that due to the Massive 73" screen, poor video looks Bad as any artifacts or compression become more noticable . On the plus side, Standard TV (480p) looks alot better then I feared. Not sure about Lamp Life as the set is only 2 weeks old. Construction appears solid dispite the thin borders.

Conclusion: Awesome Picture
Very customizable settings for Color
SO SO Sound
Great Looking Cabnet
Great Price (Approx 2600.00)

5 out of 5 stars Great TV.......2007-12-11

So far so good. I purchased this set 2 weeks ago for $2,900. I have it plugged into a TimeWarner HD Cablebox and a Sony BlueRay HD-DVD player. The set quality with HD is excellent. Very little if any artifacting. Football on CBS HD is incrdible. Hardly notice any bluring during the action. All digital channels are in 720 are very good relative to my Hitachi 52" rear.

It fits perfectly into a cubby built into our family room so I didn't need a flat screen and at 73" it gives a picture you can actually watch from 20 feet away.

Many have complained about fan noise and the lamp going out. I cannot detect the hint of any fan and time will tell as to how the lamp holds up.

The BlueRay is razor sharp.

The one complaint I have is the programming the remote. I'm not sure Mitsubishi could have made this more difficult. The use of the digital IR cable and lining it up to the IR on each device is silly. I've resorted to using my digital cablebox remote as my universal and gave up on the TV remote.

That aside, the picture you get for the dollar is beyond compare.

5 out of 5 stars Love it! Incredible picture and color!.......2007-11-13

I have had this TV for about a month now, and I am still in awe! It's like having your own movie theater at home. The pictures on regular stations do sometimes seem a little pixil-ated, but the HD stations and Bluray movies are just incredible. I read some negative reviews about the fans being noisy, but I have never heard them. I also read about problems with the bulb going and having to wait 3-4 months for replacement, so I hope that doesnt become an issue. Overall, though, I think it was worth every penny. They even brought it upstairs, and took all the packaging with them so I didnt even have to unpack it. Everyone that sees it is in awe of the size and picture. My kids bring friends over just to show them.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable picture quality!!!.......2007-10-22

I bought the Mitsubishi 73" in June 2006, had it for a year with AWESOME results. Sold my house and the guy who bought it loved the TV so much that he wanted to buy it with the house. Bought a new house and bought the latest 73" mitsu available (73734), and I've had it now for about 3 months....better than ever. I've had about 5 friends buy the same TV after seeing how awesome this set is. You feel like you're at the game with this awesome tv. I never take the time to write reviews....but this TV is worth it. For under $3k.....best tv for the money.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars BIG Bang For The Buck.......2007-12-27

Have had the 73732 for about six months now. It is a HUGE beautiful picture in hd. Factory settings were actually TOO bright for my m-inlaw. I had to turn down the brightness for her!

As another reviewer said, make sure you will be sitting AT LEAST 10 feet back. 14 ft would be best. If you're only going to be 6 or 8 ft back from the screen, do NOT buy this tv. It's that big!

I'm not real picky about sound, so the built in speakers seem fine to me.

One real problem that comes up occasionally is that the tv shuts off after ten or fifteen minutes of viewing. We thought it was overheating, or something, because it would shut off again after just a few minutes. Over and over. Customer service said to depress the hidden reset button. They said the tv is shutting down due to electrical surge or other unusual signals. Sometimes resetting works. Sometimes I just keeps turning off. We have a line conditioner which we thought would prevent this kind of problem. Fortunately it only happens a couple times a month. The rest of the time we've found the tv to be well worth the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars We are LOVING this television!.......2007-09-22

We were really not using the living room of our house much. I was in my office where I have a 32 inch LCD, my wife in the kitchen with a 25 LCD, and never the two shall meet...

TWEETER went out of business in our area and had everything on sale CHEAP, and there was the Mitsubishi 73' sitting there staring at us.

We now are in the living room together EVERY NIGHT. We are either watching DVDs or HD TV. Every time we watch I turn to my wife and say, "This is incredible!" We are watching favorite DVDs that I never got to see on a big screen and it is like going to the original showing at a movie theatre. We have watched John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, Harry Potter and Jack Sparrow, and they ALL look fantastic!

I am looking at a Blu Ray player now, but will wait to see what else comes out in the next couple of months.

So far, we are blown away by this TV and we sit close to it, about eight to ten feet and it is GREAT!

You MUST get the stand that comes with it. It just looks super. You will also want a better sound system to hook up to it.

I am adding this later: I purchased the Sony PS3 game machine because it also has a fantastic Blu Ray DVD player included.. the picture is outstanding. I am amazed. I review the PS3 80 gig on its page.

5 out of 5 stars Great TV.......2007-07-14

Had this TV for about 30 days now and remain impressed with the quality. One word of warning... I had a credenza I planned on using that had close dimensions to the matching stand that is $449.00. After recieving the TV it was clear you really do need the matching stand to fit the TV properly. I ordered it locally from a Mitsubishi dealer for $295.00. Also when I bought this TV it was $2799.00... it has gone up and down from $2799.00 to $3499.00 over the past month. I have no idea why it keeps going up and down. Again, the picture is great and setup is very easy. I have it hooked to HD Cable and a PS3 ... the Blu Ray PS3 movie screen play is stunning. I dont think you can go wrong with this TV.

1 out of 5 stars Lamp went out on 4th day of ownership; terrible warranty.......2007-06-25

On the fourth day of owning this TV, the lamp went out completely!! After talking to consumer relations, we found out that even though they will send you a replacement lamp, you (the customer) is responsible for replacing the lamp; they do not send out their service people to do it even while under warranty. Furthermore, after calling in to open a case, they give you a confirmation number and you have to write this number on your receipt (proof of purchase) and fax it to them before they will send the part out. What a HASSLE, not to mention the poor quality of the TV's lamp to go out on the FOURTH day of ownership.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable picture and quality - 73" Mitsubishi.......2007-06-24

Honestly, the most amazing picture I've ever seen. It's obviously a little on the "heavy side", but once you get it set up it's a fantastic TV. The quality is fantastic. Would highly recommend this product.

You'll enjoy a breathtaking viewing experience from any video source with the amazingly large and bright 73-inch Mitsubishi WD-73727 1080p digital light projection (DLP) television. Because 1080p provides twice the resolution of the high definition 720p or 1080i displays found in most HDTVs today, you'll get more vivid pictures--no matter the scene or content. Featuring a simple, clean design with a compact cabinet (at just 21.5 inches deep), the WD-73727 will fit into virtually any home theater furnishings without crowding the surroundings. It includes a wide variety of digital inputs (including two HDMI, three component, and two Firewire ports). It's also digital cable ready with the integrated CableCARD slot and incorporates TV Guide's On Screen program guide for easy viewing of what's on today and seven days into the future.

It delivers stunningly bright and detailed images thanks to MitsubishiÕs proprietary 1080p DLP chip and the high-speed Plush1080p video processor (with a 6-segment, 10,800 RPM color wheel and a 150-watt lamp), which upconverts 1080i signals to 1080p producing four times the resolution of traditional line doublers. It also offers Mitsubishi's DeepField imager, which dynamically optimizes brightness and contrast within every scene, as well as the SharpEdge feature for clean, focused edges between objects and scene backgrounds (see more about Mitsubishi's exclusive set of video-enhancing technologies below).

The WD-73727 has a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, and compatibility with 480i/480p/720p/1080i video sources. It pumps out audio via its integrated 20-watt speaker system (10 watts per two channels) and also offers Mitsubishi's Level Sound Dynamics Limiter features, which evens out the sound of programs--even during loud commercial breaks. It also includes a multi-format memory card reader, enabling you to display still photo slideshows and play digital music files (MP3 and WMA).

Other convenience features include color temperature controls, full-screen image freeze, two tuner picture-in-picture (PIP), split screen, six 4:3 aspect ratio and two 16:9 aspect ratio picture formats, channel labeling, V-Chip parental controls, and a sleep timer. This set features the following video and audio connections:

The IEEE 1394 (also known as Firewire or i.Link) multimedia connection enables simple, low-cost, high-bandwidth real-time audio, video and data networking between a Mitsubishi TV and other consumer electronics products such as camcorders and DVHS VCRs. With IEEE 1394 compatible products and systems, users can record SD or HD digital video over a plug-and-play A/V network.

Proprietary Mitsubishi Features
This television includes several exclusive Mitsubishi technologies that enhance its picture as well as ease of use.

Tech Talk
A microdisplay television (also called DLP) typically offers a large screen with a cabinet that's deeper than standard LCD and plasma screens, but far more compact than old-school cathode-ray television (CRTs). This rear-projection TV projects red, green, and blue light that's filtered through a pixel-filled microchip color wheel and directed onto a digital micromirror device (DMD), a chip with millions of hinged, microscopic mirrors attached, which switches on and off up to 5,000 times a second. The reflected light is directed through a lens and onto a screen, creating an image. Unlike rear-projection CRT sets, all microdisplays can get quite bright without losing detail, so they're perfectly watchable in brightly lit rooms.

HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

1 out of 5 stars Ultimate pleasure gone sour.......2007-09-15

We purchased our Mitsubishi WD-73727 a little over a year ago and couldn't have been happier with the purchase. Fantastic picture- like being at the movies all the time. Then in June of this year (2007)we noticed a halo effect creeping into the shadows of all the programs we were watching. We called for service under the warranty and were assured that the problem would be quickly taken care of. Three service calls and many calls to Mitsubishi later have left us with an unwatchable tv (the picture changes color and jumps all over the screen now) and a lot of broken promises from Mitsubishi. The service company blames Mits for not sending the needed parts and Mits just out and out lies to get us off the phone. We have since learned that there are a great many people with the very same problem as us, all with the same treatment from Mitsubishi. The store where we purchased the set is now dropping the whole line out of customer dissatisfaction and we here in mid-September have an uncertain prognosis for our $5000.00 purchase. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great television - Great Service.......2007-01-20

I could not be more pleased with my purchase of a 73" Mitsubishi DLP television. The delivery was on schedule and the television was in perfect condition. The picture is outstanding.

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Portwood.......2006-11-10

The TV arrived on time in great shape and work perfectly. Very satisfied.

4 out of 5 stars DLP - not the best.......2006-09-15

The marketplace is just filled with high-def tv choices nowdays and each choice has its ups and downs. Being a DLP means this set will be affected by the rainbow effect. Still, a really good initial setup should minimize that. I'm impressed by the wide variety of color adjustments this set boasts...rather than simply hue and tint you get individual color adjustments which should make for a very natural display when set up properly. As far as accepting or not accepting 1080p inputs is concerned it's a non-issue right now since the Toshiba HD-DVD decks only put out 1080i and the Samsung Blu-Ray decks downcovert from 1080p to 1080i and then upconvert back to 1080p before sending the signal out...so neither of those devices sends a native 1080p signal out, anyway! Perhaps in a couple of years that will become a real issue, but for now it just isn't. If that is the only thing stopping you from buying this set, REALLY the only thing, then you should probably buy it. It is going to upconvert whatever signal it receives to 1080p and you will see as good a picture from your hi-def dvd player as with any other set on the market since all 1080p is, at present, upconverted.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent video image, but not small.......2006-07-19

This 73" TV has excellent video image. I wasn't able to get any 1080p source material showing on this since I didn't have any, but 1080i and 720p looked absolutely delicious. 73" is really too big (and the set is heavy) for most living rooms, but if you have a dedicated home theater with enough distance from the couch to the wall, this is just fabulous. I'm not a sports fan but I have to admit watching sports on this is quite an exciting experience. I like movies and TV shows, and those with plenty of action sequences are done justice on this set. The price is right for such a gigantic TV, too.

I haven't looked into the HDMI issue a couple other people brought up. I'm putting off getting any next-gen hi-def DVD player until the format war settles.

5 out of 5 stars An impressive TV.......2007-07-02

This TV arrived three weeks ago as a replacement for their earlier model, the 73828, which went south on me after a year,12 days after the warranty expired. To Mitsubishi's credit, they eventually replaced that TV with this 831 after several failed attempts at repair failed.

This TV is working perfectly so far and the picture it provides is wonderfully clear. The colors are vivid and true and do not waver. Since I have integrated the set into my existing 5.1 surroundsound system, I can't comment on the audio it puts out since I don't use it.

A word on Mitsubishi. Since my old set was technically out of warranty, I suppose they could have refused assistance, but they elected to "take care" of me. There was no charge for the attempts to repair, and the brand-new 831 was delivered and installed free of charge.

I think it's safe to say I'll stay with that company as long as they make TVs.

5 out of 5 stars Blew me away!.......2007-06-27

I replaced my old 65" Pioneer Elite with this product. I was stunned by the quality and clarity of the HD programming on this set. I've seen HD in the stores, but this seemed more vibrant and sharper, probably due to the lighting.

First, my big problem has been tying in all my components into one remote. With this sets NetCommand system, it works great. I can use the Mitsubishi remote to operate my Tivo HD, THX AV receiver, Toshiba HD drive. The NetCommand system uses infrared sensors/emitters that you place near your components. It was relatively simple to set up and I had everything working in about 10 minutes. My only complaint was that when I would turn off the TV, my DVD player would come on (if it was off and not being used). I just turned off the DVD power on/off functions in the NetCommand setup and it worked fine. Different DVD players might have different results.

My friends and neighbors have been blown away as well. We invited some friends over to go to dinner but when they saw the set, we ended up ordering pizza in and watching an HD movie.

Mitsubishi recommends a certain stand with this product that I found to be too short for my components. I used the MB-73GB stand instead which isn't a perfect fit but looks fine and gives me several more inches in height on the shelves for the components.

      Overall, a great purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Mitsubishi's Best Large Rear Projection.......2007-03-21

Mitsubishi's factory hype would, somewhat surprisingly, seem to be quite accurate. The only downside (besides price of course) is the narrow viewing angle endemic to this technology. For us, this is no problem, as we have a long, narrow, living room with this set placed at one of the smaller sides. We, and visitors to our home, feel that it is like seeing a movie on a large screen. Even standard definition content looks better than it ever did on our old tube set (a 36 inch Sony XBR. Quite good for its day).
