The Amp 100 provides good amplification and is extremely simple to operate, it took me two minutes to plug everything in and get started. I would have liked bass and treble control knobs but you can regulate that from the source anyway.
NOTE: to all those complaining about the auto-off feature that turns the amplifier off whenever no signal is detected, it can be turned off via the switch in the back. Idiots.

Simple yet functional. No unneeded bells and whistles. Great to connect on one end to a USB-DAC which is in turn plugged into your Mac or PC, and on the other end to external large speakers. The sound produced meets and beats any high-end sound card output.

Based on the reviews I read here on Amazon, I felt confident that this was the no-frills, inexpensive amplifier I wanted to power my speakers. We use an older Mac Powerbook for internet radio and all music that we want to access is on my external hard drive...this amp was easy to connect right out of the box and sounds like a million bucks. It has lots of power which easily fills up our fairly small home.
Kudos to Amazon...I ordered it last Sunday, went for the free shipping, and true to the confirmation email I received, it showed up 2 days later. For $90, my prayers have been very answered...i got an affordable amplifier that has no frills to fuss with and does the job.
Audio is always cutting out.......2007-12-02
This would be a fine product except for the fact that it has this mechanism to cut sound output when the sound level falls below a certain threshold. There is a switch to turn off this "feature" but it doesn't work. The result is that the sound always cuts off when your music volume gets low. It's extremely irritating when you're trying to listen to the soft parts of songs or when you don't want to blast the output. I want control my volume via remote, buy I have to manually adjust the volume knob instead and when I don't feel like cajoling the amp, I just let the music periodically cut out but get irritated every time it does. I would not recommend this product as a result of this problem.
A great amp to use with iTunes and power backyard speakers.......2007-11-29
I used this to power a pair of outdoor Bose speakers on my back deck and it works well. Runs cool; I have the AudioSource Amp installed in a closed kitchen cabinet with no heat problems.
My music source is an Apple AirPort Express with Air Tunes (M9470LL/A) connected to the amp through an headphone jack splitter. All my music is stored on an XP PC in iTunes and streamed wirelessly to the Air Tunes box. I have the AirPort Express sound jack connected to two amplifier inputs; 1-a cheap $16 powered PC speaker set (has subwoofer) for listening in the kitchen (sounds great!), and 2 - this AudioSource amplifier. Music quality is good through the AudioSource Amp. I wish it had a bass boost but I think that is a problem with my Bose speakers.

You can rig the amp to power up when it senses an audio signal or through the use of a 12-volt trigger (standard to automation systems). The receiver uses Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), which ensures signal accuracy even with high-resolution sources such as DVD-Audio and SACD. I mean sound is good but there is no volume control on the front, and when it closes itself down to save power, it is forever unless you turn it off and on again.
I'd say it's OK if you are looking for a simple amplifier for home use.

I purchased this amplifier about 1 year ago to bi-amp my Polk Monitor 60's along with my Onkyo TX-SR504 which produces 75 watts RMS per channel which I believe to be about 100 watts RMS per channel. This amplifier is QUITE a bit louder then my Onkyo receiver in terms of power and sounding clear. When I'm not watching movies and I'm playing my receiver for music I truly play it very very loud and the Onkyo M-282 seemed to be a good bit louder then my receiver. It will get hot but not more then a receiver after using it for a while and I find the Onkyo to be a superb buy. The price is right and the specs are real and are not over-rated like quite a bit of manufacturers these days. The specs with Onkyo are either exact or a little bit underrated in my opinion and for the price, this amplifier is such a great deal. I have been a fan of Onkyo for quite some time now and this M-282 only redefined my love for the brand!
outstanding 2-channel amp.......2007-09-19
I bought this 2-channel amplifier to drive a pair of in-ceiling speakers in another room. For my application, this amp is perfection. I'm certainly glad I didn't buy the similarly-priced but much-less-powered unit from Audio Research.
The output power is phenomenal - noticeably stronger than the 150w per channel output spec from my Sony ES reciever. Either Yamaha is being conservative or Sony is misleading. The sound quality is very clear, low noise, and free of distortion even at loud passages. Frankly I'm stunned at the performance for this low a price point.
This unit is beautifully finished, and looks at home with the rest of my components. It's actually smaller than I expected as well. The front of the unit has a hard power switch, and a standby/on indicator that is red on standby (soft power off) and orange when on.
The rear of the unit has a 2-channel RCA input, a 2-channel RCA output (passthrough), one set of speaker connectors (accepts banana-type and wire), a 12v trigger input, and the power cord input. There is an input level adjustment (essentially a volume control) but in my application, I found it best to set this at maximum volume and let my in-wall volume control adjust the level. There is also a switch to control auto-power settings: disabled (power is controlled by the front switch), audio (front switch remains on, unit changes from standby to on when audio signal is detected), and 12v (external 12v trigger). There is quite a long delay from power-on to on, and in my setup, I chose the OFF mode - where I turn the unit on from the front when I want to use it. The supplied power cord is quite hefty and probably overkill.
Note that unlike several other reviews here, my unit did not get very hot - certainly far from the heat generated by my Sony ES receiver. Nor did I experience a 60Hz hum when the unit entered standby.
Finally, although some reviews say this unit has been discontinued, it still appears on the official Onkyo web site, and availability seems good. So I would say it's not discontinued.
In summary, this is the "perfect" 2-channel audio amp - highly recommended without reservation. And an unbelievable value for near-audiophile performance.

Great for the money I paid.......2007-06-10
I didn't expect this to hold up to my old Zeus Amp that lasted me 18 years. They used to make the best stuff back then. It almost does. It pushes my 2 pro 15" Rockford's ok. This is a great amp for the price. The Zeus was well over $1000 if I remember right. This was well under $200. My lights don't go dim when I turn it up anymore, but I still have most of the volume. The quality of sound is not quite as good. I didn't think I would be able to hear a difference in sub-woofer sound between two amps. I can. No big deal though, I'm not in a competition. Also, the led light sphere on this in nice, but don't expect to be able to see it unless it's in front of you at night. It's NOT bright as indicated in other reviews I've read. It has hardly any reflective capability at all. Anyway, This amp will push all but the most inefficient speakers out there. I'm happy with this purchase.

This is a great amp. Currently I have it hooked up to my 2 12" Kicker Subs and I still have power left over. I am thinking about purchasing another one to power two more 12" Kickers.

I love this amp. It's a very clean amp. It looks cool and sound excellent. I'm using this amp to power two 12 inch subs. Tne Plasma Sphere look really cool day or night.
Although, it doesn't mention this in the manual; This amp seems to have a soft-turn on or anti-thump feature. I really like that feature. I hate it; when you turn on your stereo and hear this annoying thump noise every time you turn on your stereo. I don't have to worry about that. This is a great amp. I would definitely recommend it.

i'v used this amp with my Dual 12" subs for a coupple months. although i dont like the subs the amp pushes the 1100 watt subs great, and it dosent drain my battery. this is a good way to go for a cheep hi watt amp

well let's just start by saying that this amp kicks the subwoofers like tyson , it deliver a clean bass all the way down to 30 hz. it's not a 1200 watts rms amp like it says on the box maybe 200 watts rms and on bridge 350 rms mono . wich is a good delivery for any amp .it does not get very hot and
until now, one month of use has never reset or failed to me .

Amp overheats when bridged with dual subwoofers.......2007-01-11
I am running dual subwoofers with this amp and it overheats in about 10-20 minutes. The amp burns your hand to the touch after being on for a short while. It begins to clip and finally shuts down due to the heat. It is supposed to have 4ohms when it is bridged and my subs handle 4ohms(as do most dual brand enclosed subwoofers). The sound quality is great, and I would have been very satisfied with the amp if it weren't for that serious overheating problem(which could end up burning the amp out over time).
What I don't understand is why this amp overheats when my old dual amp, which had way less peak handling power(420 peak watts) could handle the subs for over a year (was fried due to the low handling power of the amp and the higher wattage draw of the subs) with the exact same wiring and this amp cannot? If this keeps up I may have to scrap this amplifier and go for a monoblock amplifier instead. due to my experience with this amp, my faith in power acoustik has dropped significantly.
