Product Description
AudioSource Amp 100 is a power amplifier that is versatile enough to be used to drive speakers with different impedance ratings in stereo mode. Ot also allows bridging the 2 separate internal amp circuits for higher power sound to one channel. Though designed for home use, the bridge-application makes this suitable for use in bars and restaurants, where stereo channeling might not be considered, but high quality output is definitely an issue. Unswitched 400 Watts Power Outlet Bridgeable Outlets Rubber Vibration-Damping Feet AudioSource 1-Year Warranty Unit Dimensions - 2.9 x 16.5 x 9.25
Amazon.com Product Description
A favorite of audiophiles everywhere, the AudioSource Amp 100 two-channel power amplifier is built to deliver powerful music, pure and simple, with few extra controls to get in the way. Listeners can use the Amp 100 as an independent stereo amp (50 watts x 2 into 8 ohms) when used with a preamp, as a second zone amplifier in multi-room applications, or as a rear-channel amplifier in a 6.1- and 7.1-channel system. Combine the Amp 100 with an additional monoblock amp (the Amp 100 delivers 150 watts RMS of bridged power) and a preamp and listeners can independently drive two front left/right speakers or two rear speakers, further clarifying each channel to create dynamic, high-end sound. To connect additional components to the amp, use the included stereo inputs with automatic priority override (for connecting to a source such as a receiver, CD player, or preamplifier) or the auxiliary output for creating a multi-amp setup.
The amp boasts a precise frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and total harmonic distortion of 0.02 percent. Additional features include A, B, or A+B speaker selector switches, front-panel mounted volume and balance knobs, and five-way binding posts that work with both bare wire and banana plugs. Plus, at 16.5 by 2.9 by 9.25 inches (W x H x D), the device should fit comfortably in most rack mount or home entertainment setups. All AudioSource amps are backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Customer Reviews:
Very reliable, good quality product.......2007-12-26
The Amp 100 provides good amplification and is extremely simple to operate, it took me two minutes to plug everything in and get started. I would have liked bass and treble control knobs but you can regulate that from the source anyway.
NOTE: to all those complaining about the auto-off feature that turns the amplifier off whenever no signal is detected, it can be turned off via the switch in the back. Idiots.
functional amplifier.......2007-12-22
Simple yet functional. No unneeded bells and whistles. Great to connect on one end to a USB-DAC which is in turn plugged into your Mac or PC, and on the other end to external large speakers. The sound produced meets and beats any high-end sound card output.
very impressed.......2007-12-05
Based on the reviews I read here on Amazon, I felt confident that this was the no-frills, inexpensive amplifier I wanted to power my speakers. We use an older Mac Powerbook for internet radio and all music that we want to access is on my external hard drive...this amp was easy to connect right out of the box and sounds like a million bucks. It has lots of power which easily fills up our fairly small home.
Kudos to Amazon...I ordered it last Sunday, went for the free shipping, and true to the confirmation email I received, it showed up 2 days later. For $90, my prayers have been very answered...i got an affordable amplifier that has no frills to fuss with and does the job.
Audio is always cutting out.......2007-12-02
This would be a fine product except for the fact that it has this mechanism to cut sound output when the sound level falls below a certain threshold. There is a switch to turn off this "feature" but it doesn't work. The result is that the sound always cuts off when your music volume gets low. It's extremely irritating when you're trying to listen to the soft parts of songs or when you don't want to blast the output. I want control my volume via remote, buy I have to manually adjust the volume knob instead and when I don't feel like cajoling the amp, I just let the music periodically cut out but get irritated every time it does. I would not recommend this product as a result of this problem.
A great amp to use with iTunes and power backyard speakers.......2007-11-29
I used this to power a pair of outdoor Bose speakers on my back deck and it works well. Runs cool; I have the AudioSource Amp installed in a closed kitchen cabinet with no heat problems.
My music source is an Apple AirPort Express with Air Tunes (M9470LL/A) connected to the amp through an headphone jack splitter. All my music is stored on an XP PC in iTunes and streamed wirelessly to the Air Tunes box. I have the AirPort Express sound jack connected to two amplifier inputs; 1-a cheap $16 powered PC speaker set (has subwoofer) for listening in the kitchen (sounds great!), and 2 - this AudioSource amplifier. Music quality is good through the AudioSource Amp. I wish it had a bass boost but I think that is a problem with my Bose speakers.
A great value.

Snap, Crackle, Pop, Smoke!.......2007-12-26
My husband researched the home theater receiver he wanted for several weeks and decided on this brand/model. It took him 2 days to set up, it worked for 2 and 1/2 days and died in a shower of sparks and smoke. Needless to say, back it is going. Now he is looking for something more reliable.
outstanding,but..........2007-12-23
Outstanding overall, but if one connects all video components with a single HDMI cable to the TV, then there are no individual adjustment for each source! This is a deficiency that needed to be addressed since each video source needs individual corrections to contrast, tint, etc
Lit up like a spakler, smoked, and died!.......2007-12-22
Ive got 10 low to high end recivers in my house serving as whole house audio and entertainment for varios living rooms and the master bedroom. This was my first onkyo, my existing and previous recivers have been yamaha, sony, harmon-karden, and JVC, and not one has ever broken and some are creeping up on being 10 years old.
I hooked this onkyo up as carefully as I've done dozens of times before with others, bannana connectors, correct polarity, etc. It ran fine for about 4 or 5 hours in many modes, including true HD with a blue ray and regular audio with the ipod dock, then suddenly... sparks, popping noises, and smoke came like the 4th of july. Needless to say its dead. This happend a few hours ago, so not sure yet what customer service on this $1200 pile of 60lb dead metal and wire is going to be yet.
I know at a minnimum I'm going to have to wrap it up and send it back which is going to be the biggest waste of time ever and a pain in the neck.
Before the death of this monster it's performance was quite good, but did not seem to warrant the price tag. The 4 HDMI connections was my primary reason for going with this unit, however even that had a major downside for me. My non high def channels from my typical motorolla cable box could only be displayed in a zoom mode through the reciever. Know this isn't an issue for some, but personally if the picture is 4:3, thats how I want to see it. It drives me nuts to watch a stretched widescreen version of a square picture. When I want to see this type of effect I can go to the ground round and look at myself in the funny mirror, I don't need it forced upon me through my tv.
This reciever was several hundred dollars more than what I've spent in the past on competing products. Frankly nothing really stood out for me with this unit... speaker setup with the microphone takes forever, and forced 2 or 7 listening positions, 2 worked great for where I was setting up. I would be annoyed though if I had 3 spots and had to come up with seven, plus that would probably take a whole hour. Frankly the sound was better out of the box before I wasted 15 minutes with the 2 position automatic microphone setup.
Sound is good, but this mostly has to do with your speakers in my opinion. I had 3 or 4 grand worth of high end new stuff hooked up to this thing for pushing movie and music sounds. I could hook those speakers up to a $100 sony reciever and they would still sound great.
I'm convinced that the reciever industy is heavily gimmiked like most industries are. Audiophiles will curse me, but I just can't seem to distinguish the difference between recivers which employ the same base technologies. This makes me wonder why I paid $1200 dollars for something that I could have basically gotten in a $400 sony. What was I thinking, I could be watching TV tonight instead of writing an amazon review.
I'm not supprised by the death of this unit, I saw another reviewer complain of the exact same issue with an Onkyo reciever here on Amazon, I should have listened to that person. In my oppinion you should go with the most affordable reciever which includes the technology (ture hd, hdmi ports [sony has 3 at $400], etc.) you require and spend the money you save on better speakers or put it towards a family vacation.
I hope people reading this do not assume I'm biased because mine blew up, I'm sure its a relative rarity and does not represent the typical quality of Onkyo products. In my experience, owning exclusive niche equipment such as this comes at the expense of reliability. Manufacturers profit greatly from these almost valueless upgrade products they offer. There is always a group of foolish individuals such as myself who is lured into paying high dolloars to fufill that psychological need for the latest and greatest.
FYI: If your an audiophile and don't need to impress people with your sound system, try a good 100+ pair of closed ear headphones instead of this $1200 Onkyo heat sink.
Onkyo is THE receiver........2007-12-03
Having installed around 15 home cinemas for myself and friends over the last 16 years,I was delighted by the extensive functions of the Onkyo. The move to HDMI is mastered ,with easy connections, and the sound quality is TOP.Also the video upconversion is so good that you will hesitate to replace your DVD`s by high def.The universal remote is so good that it has replaced my Logitech. My Onkyo handles -with fantastic quality-LP`s, iPod, Cd`s, Satellite,DVd`s, Blue Ray, XM radio...What more can you ask !Its 7x140 watts comfortably drive my Definitive Technology 300 watt speakers.Only 2 criticisms: manual sound optimisation is better than the automated option, and why does zone 2 not accept digital inputs ?Great product
Sonc bliss..........2007-11-05
I've recently replaced my Onkyo TX-NR900 with the new TX-SR875. The only thing I had to give up was the internet connection, but I didn't use it in my old device, since the software is pretty lame and I primarily use a Mac (iTunes).
The sound quality is absolutely phenomenal and really adds dimension to all of my music. Not necessarily leagues beyond the unit it replaces, but i am truly impressed with how well Blu-Ray movies sound when listening to uncompressed audio. The Audyssey speaker setup worked well. I had to make a tone adjustment to add a bit of extra bass, but no other speaker parameters had to be adjusted after letting Audyssey work its magic.
On the downside, be sure to have a solid place to install the equipment with plenty of airflow. The device is about 55-60 pounds and produces plenty of heat when in operation. I also noticed that if I am listening to music over HDMI via my PS3, the sound will stop if I turn off the TV. The TV is also connected to the Onkyo, so I imagine some sort of DRM is causing this behavior. It wouldn't be so bad if you could get the PS3 to show a solid black screen. These minor issues are nothing when compared to the aural enjoyment provided by this well-made receiver.

Only useful for DVD playback.......2007-09-07
This DVD system does not have an aux input, so the speakers can not be used for anything else, unless you have a receiver to directly connect to the 5 speakers. So, I boudght a receiver, but I am not sure the subwoofer works right by itself (in the DVD setup, the subwoofer would receive and redirect all the channels from the DVD). As an entry-level model, it is thus not very useful: who wants to buy a separate receiver, which would cost as much as the whole entry-level system? Just look for a DVD home theater system with aux input if you like to use speakers.
Product Description
Part of the overall concept of HDTV is an amazing improvement in sound. HDTV broadcasts and many commercial DVD discs are Dolby-Digital encoded todeliver surround sound. 5 speakers work to distribute sound to front left and right, from center, rear left and right. Then a subwoofer adds the sonic depth you'd experience in a movie theater. That provides you with a true home-theater experience. This system delivers 450 watts total power output and has a built-in DVD player that plays multiple format discs including DVD+-R/RW and CD. There's also an AM/FM radio. The DVD player and Radio are housed in a slimline receiver console that's only 2" high and 17" wide. With component and composite connectivity, you can connect this with your widescreen TV for a sweet suite of wonder in your home. That's why this COBY DVD-937 system is a must-have for you. Coby DVD-937 5.1 Channel DVD Player/Receiver Home Theater Speaker System For the price of this product I feel its hard to beat.I hooked it up and everything was just fine.Had a couple of small questions and called coby customer service, questions were answered in a few minutes. So far works great...
DO NOT BUY!!!.......2007-05-28
This is the absolute worst electronic product that I have ever bought. The remote constantly sends the wrong signal to the system. I will press the root menu button the stop signal is sent, or if I press the next or previous chapter the setup menu comes up. More and more DVDs that I try and play with this system do not register and they work fine with my other DVD systems that I have. There are also lots of programming glitches that prevent proper use of the system. They were lucky that I had already passed the 90 day warranty. It is strange that all these problems started about 100 days into the use of the product. Customer Support just ignored my problems since I was past the warranty.
Amazon.com Product Description
Power up your home theater with the Denon AVR-687 surround sound receiver, which offers seven discrete amplifier channels (75 watts apiece, for 525 watts of total power). This includes for the surround back channel speakers to give you more clearly defined sound localization at the rear for 6.1-channel surround sources such as DTS-ES Discrete 6.1/Matrix 6.1/NEO:6 and Dolby Digital EX. The power amp circuits have been designed to reproduce exceptionally high sound quality with a wide frequency response from 10 Hz to 100 kHz. Denon's multi-room entertainment system feature lets you select different audio sources for listening in different rooms, and the AVR-687 offers two zones.
The AVR-687 is XM Radio ready (optional XM tuner required) and offers XM-HD surround sound. It's also compatible with Denon's ASD-1R control dock for iPods. It features a 56-station AM/FM/XM random preset memory tuning. For video connections, this receiver offers three sets of component video inputs that maintain a flat response up to 100 MHz to ensure sharp video quality, as well as three sets of S-Video switching and a front composite video input. It also offers a video up/down conversion function (composite to/from S-Video; composite to S-Video/component).
With Denon's Auto Setup feature, you can confirm speaker phase, assess the size of all your speakers, measure speaker-to-listener distances, and balance speaker levels. With the included DM-S205 microphone placed in your favorite listening position, Auto Setup uses a test tone generator and proprietary programming to precisely balance speaker levels and fine-tune the delay settings for each speaker. The result is optimized system performance for your specific home theater room.
You can customize the performance of this receiver to suit your home theater and enhance operating ease. Adjustments are easy to make via a dialog format on the fluorescent display on the front panel, and these customized settings are then stored, for each source input and surround mode, in a personal memory setting. Put yourself in the middle of your favorite concert hall and music environments with Denon's DSP acoustic environment simulation modes, which include jazz club, rock arena, video game, virtual surround, and mono movie. Other features include:
- Surround playback formats: DTS 96/24 decoding for DVD video; DTS-ES 6.1 and Matrix 6.1; DTS NEO:6; Dolby Digital EX; Dolby Pro Logic IIx; Neural Surround
- Denon's 7 Channel Stereo mode transforms 2-channel sources (such as CD, tape, stereo radio) into surround sound, free of delay effects and unnatural artifacts, from all 7 speakers.
- 8-channel external inputs
- Variable subwoofer crossover switching (40/60/80/90/100/110/120/150/200/250 Hz)
- Night mode
- Glow key remote control
- Power transformer for high power, twin drive rectifier, and large aluminum extruded heatsink
Cinema Equalizer
The sound from movie sources recorded in Dolby Digital, DTS, or other formats emphasizes high-frequency range due to a theater's front speakers being placed behind the movie screen. If this sound is reproduced in the home theater without correction, the high-frequency range is too strong. This Denon receiver's Cinema Equalizer feature corrects these high-frequency components so that the sound is clearer and easier to listen to when using Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Digital EX and DTS surround modes.
What's in the Box
Receiver, power cord, remote control (with batteries), DM-S205 Auto Setup microphone, printed operating instructions

Welcome to the Minor leagues.......2007-08-24
I bought this on Amazon for 40% less than C City, & I feel like that I stole it. I have this hooked to Sat & DVD, it is only used for TV. The room is 30' x 23' & I have not had it over 0; it is way loud. I was a little concerned since it was rated 75w, but @ 6ohms it is rated 110w.
This is my first experience with this level of equipment, so the manual was confusing & redundant; plus when you made some adjustments it automatically undid other adjustments that you had made. With some inputs you are adjusting speaker volume [which I understood], but the inputs that I used [optical]. The only adjustment is in feet. I did figure out less feet = less volume. I did all my adjustments from the Receiver [it seemed much easier]. The auto-setup mic in my case was useless. One feature that I do like is you can cut it off on the receiver & it uses no electricity. I did get it balanced perfect, excelent sound; & unbelievable price.
Great Receiver...Terrible Manual/Remote.......2007-03-04
Let me preface by saying the sound and capabilities of this receiver are best of the bunch for this price point. Not only are there multiple inputs and outputs for every video source, but excellent quality conversions as well. The sound definition and reproduction is fabulous as well. Read the tech specs and brag sheets from Denon for all the info...it's all true.
The main criticism I have is the Owner's Manual and System Setup. I am a tech geek. I love this stuff. But I have never found a manual so poorly written or organized. Instructions on setup are incomplete. Directions concerning how to access certain menus don't work if one switch on the remote is in the wrong position (this switch is never referenced in the directions, by the way...happy hunting). Seemingly simple actions, such as selecting Zone 2 speakers On, are convuluted. There is a Zone 2 button on the front of the actual unit. Seems easy, yes? Just press it. But pressing it does nothing unless you navigate (without much help from the manual) to section 2 of System Setup and scroll to the Preamp section. From there, choose between Zone 2, Surround, Speaker Set A or B. Apparently the Zone 2 Preamp (a separate preamp from the main) also powers a second set of surround speakers used in a 7.1 configuration OR a set of Zone 2 speakers for use in a secondary location. That's great...that's fine. But why would you put a Zone 2 button on the face of the unit AND a Preamp setup in the 4th level of a System Setup Menu? It's redundant. Worse yet, the button on the face of the unit doesn't even work properly if the System Setup Menu isn't configured properly. Clearly, if I want that set of speakers to be used as Zone 2, shouldn't I just press "Zone 2." If I want them as Surround, couldn't I just press it again to de-select? Why not make the button on the face "Zone 2/Surround" and be done with it?
This is just one example of an overly complicated receiver. Here's another seemingly simple item. The volume control increases in increments of 0.5 db per volume touch on the remote. This is pratically imperceptible and with a range of -80db to 16db, you can quickly get frustrated hammering away at your remote like a video game controller. Alternatively, if you press and hold the volume button on a remote, the volume increases too fast and overshoots. Why not make this control interval adjustable? If you're going to preset a volume control at 0.5 db per touch (which is ridiculous), why not allow the user to customize the interval?
Bottom line: The hardware and performance of this unit is great. But the engineers that designed it are not. And the individuals who wrote the owner's manual and designed the remote must have been playing a practical joke. Did they not product test these items? For ease of use alone, I would seriously consider an Onkyo or Harmon Kardon before buying this unit.
A great entry level Denon!.......2006-12-27
Denon always has great sound, so I'm not going to waste time talking about that. I'm going to try to concentrate on some very minor things that I lost when upgrading from my JVC. So if you don't like nitpicking, then hurry out and buy this unit! If interested, read on to see if these little things matter to you, too.
New features that I love, and why I upgraded:
3 Component video inputs. This was actually hard to find, as many new receivers have only 2, or have HDMI instead.
Multi-source, multi-zone. I've always had yard speakers but never multi-source.
Video up-conversion. That means that I can just leave the TV on component video all the time without pushing tons of buttons to control the TV's input source. Much easier to plug a camcorder on rare occasions.
Independent Video/Audio select. This wasn't really rant/raved about in the specs, but I think it is very cool because you can listen to some audio while having say, a news scroll going in the background on video. Also, it turns out it is incredibly important for me, since I don't have enough video inputs (see below) for my VCR and media center together, so I have to do some fancy wiring to capture old footage from camcorders and VCR's into MPEG2.
Now, here are my gripes:
First, I've always had JVC receivers, but they stopped making receivers with enough inputs for me. So I had to switch brands. I've always loved JVC for what I think is a good mix of advanced features but user friendly enough for the wife or visitors. Well, this new Denon bad boy is tough for even me to navigate until I get used to it, and I haven't even tried to demo how to use it to my wife yet. I understand they are less expensive, but I don't like switches on the remote. Rather I prefer the device selection by button, with some indicator (glowing or LCD display) to show what is currently selected. Also, it is still difficult to figure out when the buttons on the back are active or not for each source. This will take some getting used to but I haven't figured out the pattern yet. Oh yeah, speaking of the back, it is very difficult to open unless I've got a long thumbnail!
Another small gripe is the "dB" volume indication, rather than all positively offset from zero. I've had other components like this before, but it is still weird. Also regarding the volume, it steps very small with a single press, but then advanced too quickly when held down. Last gripe on volume: With my JVC, it remembered the last volume level for each source when you switch back to it. This is VERY handy since not all sources have the same input level. So with the Denon, sometimes you switch sources and get blasted with sound.
One more thing that many people won't care about, but I certainly do. Normally when you plug headphones into a receiver (or most devices), the speakers are muted. With my JVC, you could leave the headphone jack plugged in all the time and you just switch the speakers on/off, while having headphones + speakers active. This was great because I have a wireless base station that can be picked up upstairs by my wireless speaker in the shower, or I like to listen on wireless headphones when everyone is asleep. I don't have to plug/unplug headphone jacks all the time. Well, as I expected, this is a rare, unheralded feature that I lost when upgrading to this Denon.
I also wish there were just one more rear video input source. I have DVD, Cable, and a Meda Center PC connected, which doesn't leave an opening for my old S-Video VCR, which I occasionally need. Now if I need it, I have to do a little rewiring, and then wire it back. And why isn't there an S-video input in the front for video, rather than just composite? It is cool this upconverts to component at the output, but I'll still lose a little quality when hooking up my camcorder.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great unit, and I was very pleased to find a Denon that met nearly all my needs without breaking my bank.

Form, Fit & Function in a Nice Package.......2007-01-16
Having recently upgraded my home theatre system I needed a multi-channel audio video receiver that would supply multiple input control and functionality in a relatively compact space. I wanted a receiver that would provide HDMI switching and be capable of powering large, wide range speakers. The JVC turned out to be ideal on both counts due to it's low profile yet ample power reserve allowing easy placement in my rather limited widescreen tv support shelf.
Although my HDMI DVD player interfaced beautifully, my cable service provided DVR didn't like the JVC's HDMI input and refused to pass hi-def material through the receiver. This necessitated using the DVR's and receiver's component outputs and inputs respectively. A call to my cable provider confirmed the DVR box's bad behavior and I was told I would have to wait for the providor's next upgrade. The good news is that I wasn't able to discern any significant loss of detail in hi-def material on a 1080P capable 73" widescreen DLP tv by using the component video and optical audio outputs. Your results may differ.
One feature of the JVC that I found particularly useful was it's built-in wireless USB audio streaming function. Installing the provided small antenna on the receiver and plugging in the transmitter to my desktop computer located in a different room was a snap. Now I can easily stream high quality music (uncompressed) and internet radio stations from my computer through my home theatre audio system. One caveat to be aware of is that like wireless internet, the provided USB wireless transmitter is affected by 2.4GHz home telephone systems and, believe it or not, some microwave ovens. If you have a 5.8GHz phone system you'll be fine. Wish I could say the same about the microwave.
While relatively easy to install, the JVC setup procedure requires considerable review of the comprehensive manual. I found that I had to jump around the instruction manual quite a bit before I was able to use the receiver effectively. The on screen guides are easy to follow although one has to drill through multiple menues.
The provided remote control works very well and features a retractable cover that allows one to access less used functions easily while simultaneously keeping the device uncluttered. The instructions on how to add additional external devices were very straightforward and worked flawlessly.
If you're in the market for an excellent sounding HDMI capable multi-channel AV receiver with reasonable funtionality and a relatively small footprint than I encourage you to consider this JVC receiver.
Great but be aware of wireless interference.......2007-01-06
The price, features, performance here is top notch. Everyone is having issues with HDMI connections right now so don't let that stop you, it is a problem for everyone and there is a learning curve.
The sound from the receiver is very good and the class D amp does run hot, they all do. This one is pumping out 150W per channel so the left side of the unit gets very hot. You will not want to put in in an enclosed audio cabinet without an additonal fan in the cabinet.
The usb wireless connection is a lot of fun and the sound quality is excellent as long as no other devices that interfere are running while it is in use. For me, my 5.8ghz cordless phone and microwave cause interference when they are in use. You can hold down the button for 3 seconds on the usb transmitter to try and change wireless channels but this did not help when the devices I mentioned were in use. I have not tried the corded connection.
Overall this is the best deal around for an AV receiver with a good amp and all the current tech features you could need.
Go else where if you want reliability!!!.......2006-12-01
I received this stereo on 11/29/06 as promised. I really liked the sound from my computer. A wonderful idea!!!! I just wish other manufactures would follow suit.
Out the box, my HDMI worked flawlessly. However, when I hooked up my DVD player, I got sound but no picture. When I hooked up my VCR, the same thing happened. I called JVC tech support and the first tier could not help me so I was told the second tier support would call me back in 2 hours. After 3 hours of waiting, I called JVC again. I was told by one representative that the hook up would need to be all HDMI or all composite or component this is totally different from the manual. It clearly states that this receiver will up convert all signals to HDMI.
I changed everything over and did get the DVD player to work. Actually, it was just a pass through and no switching took place. I then tried and tried in vain to get the VCR to show video; but no such luck.
I called JVC again; I was finally told that I might have something wrong with the switching and the unit would need to be repaired. (This has been a large problem for this particular model) I then said that this is a brand new system and I should not need to get it repaired. Well, I relented and asked where the nearest shop was for a repair; I was then told there were none near and the unit would need to be sent to the manufacturer for repair.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS REVIEW; I WOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR RELIABILITY.
Amazon stands behind what they sell; and I could not be happier with their customer service. Unit goes back tomorrow.
Now, I am thinking about the Onkyo TX-SR674.
Nice stereo!.......2006-11-14
The USB plug is excelent. I hook up my lap top and have 2 weeks of non stop music. The sound is very good, just wish they would change there speaker terminals from the too close together screw type to any thing else!
The HDMI plug makes a world of diffrance with the amount of cords you need, just one!
Great receiver and GREAT JVC SUPPORT!.......2006-11-03
I received this receiver a couple days ago and had many problems with setup. I wanted this device for a couple of reasons, mainly because it includeded HDMI switching but also because my 42" LCD hangs on the wall and my components are about 35 feet away and I didn't want to run cables for every component to the TV. I wanted 1 HDMI cable to run from this device to the TV and 1 set of speaker wire. All other components I wanted to plug into this receiver.
At first attempt, I got video but no sound through the cable box, my DVD had sound but no video and my wireless PC Link worked flawlessly within 5 minutes of setup. I spent nearly 4 hours attempting everything I could think of, but failed to get it to work.
The next night, I decided to call JVC. A tech answered the phone on the second ring! She spent about 30 minutes on the phone with me trying to get it worked out but couldn't so she transferred me to the next level of support. He helped me immensely and in 20 minutes I was up and running perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PRO'S:
Single point of communication between components and TV.
W/the included wireless transmitter, you can stream music from any PC or laptop and it will play through your speakers.
Many on screen configurable options.
Remote controls all of my components.
Sound is excellent.
Many input options.
Sleek looking.
CONS:
Difficult initial setup - my cable box had to be connected via component cables to the receivers VCR component in jacks. Who could guess that? There is another port labeled "DBS" - that seems like a more logical place.
Can ONLY connect 2 High Def devices at a time (1 component + 1 HDMI, etc).
A couple other reviewers here stated that you cannot play sound through your TV when connected to this receiver. Well, it's a receiver...it's not made to utilize your TV's speakers, that would be useless. However, if your TV has detachable speakers, you can just add speaker wire to them and connect them to the receiver and everything will work fine.

Customer Reviews:
Great receiver for the price.......2007-11-13
Let's face it. At this price range a receiver is a receiver is a receiver. It just depends on which brand you are familiar with. They all have the same inputs and outputs and watts per channel.
What they don't have is wireless transmitting of your mp3's on your laptop to the receiver. This is really, really cool. It works very nicely from up to 20 feet away. That's 80ish gigs of music available to your receiver without a DVD or CD player! You keep your music on an mp3 player? Connect it to your laptop/desktop and transmit it to the JVC receiver! You listen to streaming audio on Rhapsody/or other? Transmit it to your great sounding stereo! With today's mp3 rage, how can you not want this capability?
Setup requires really, really reading the owners manual to get your components and speakers playing nicely. (USB setup is a snap). But when complete, it's as good as any in this price range.
Hey JVC, If I could do all the setup on my laptop and download it to the receiver, I would be in heaven...to many damn buttons!...hint, hint!
Don, Harrisburg PA
pure garbage.......2006-12-21
If you have ever had a surround receiver you will find this one disappointing. The surface temp of the receiver runs in excess of 120 degress. Weak sound to back speakers. Insane setup features. The owners manual gave me a headache. The decoder does a poor job of seperation!
AWESOME, but ugh.......2006-01-10
Great features, awesome sound, even with their "virtual surround back" feature when not having the back surround(s) installed.
Now my issues i had with it: If you know how to hook up a surround system, I suggest skipping the beginners crap found pages 1-18 or so. At 17 or 18 they have the set up procedures for the menus... read this. It took me an hour how to figure out how to get my dvd video input set to component, instead of composite or s-video, which is what it initially sets it as. The upconversion function is automatic, no need to pay mind to that. Next: heed any warnings for the wireless function. Mine was working for 5 minutes, then something I did screwed up the connection between the transmitter and the receiver. Just allow it to install its ops onto your PC, (not even a minute), and its great. Whenever its plugged in, the PC automatically switches audio out to the USB. MAC: just plug and play (of course... I love OSX!!), switch outputs though in the preferences the first time, and youre golden.
Overall I was pleased with it while the wireless worked. I ended up exchanging it as it was essentially defective, but rest assured, Ive found myself my home theater hub.
The other review mentioned heat issues. Yeah it got friggin hot, but a friend of mine just installed a couple of comp cooling fans in his ent. center, they work like a freakin charm. If youre afraid of overheating issues, $50-60 CompUSA for 2 fans and a power thing (not to mention hardware [screws], hole-saw, drill, and confidence not to screw up the back of the ent. center.
Great buy.
Ventilate.......2005-09-16
This is a great receiver...but watch out, it needs to be well ventilated. Mine blew up after 31 days in an admittedly poorly ventilated entertainment center. The main problem is that the exhaust vents on the receiver are on the sides and it is a pretty wide peice of equipment so there is not a lot of room to breath in your average enclosed entertainment center. I'm also still waiting for the thing to be repaired because apparently JVC has no parts and everything is on back-order (its been 31 days since I dropped it off for repair).
I have since installed 4 exhaust fans in my entertainment center to prevent any overheating from occuring in the future. I followed the instructions on a website that amazon seems to refuse to print here so search google for "receiver cooling fans" and it is the site titled "cooling fans"
Two things to note.
1) You probably want more than 2 fans if you have a tight squeeze in your entertainment center.
2) You need to purchase a power supply tester ($10) to power the power supply without plugging it into a motherboard.
You won't be disappointed with the power and ease of use from this receiver if you keep it in good repair. It has all of the settings I ever wanted. It converts S-video and composite video signals to component if you have a component cable running out to your TV. The USB wireless tool is really cool as well. I have my computer set up with itunes on the other side of the room and I can play all of my music on my surround system without any wires running between the two.
Overall, I was very pleased with this thing while it was working...the ventilation is probably a good idea with any high powered receiver.

Amazon.com Product Description
Surround speakers don't amount to much without a quality receiver, and this JVC 7.1-channel model plays the role perfectly. Equipped with a full complement of surround decoders, including Dolby Digital EX, DTS (ES, Neo:6, and 96/24), and Dolby Pro Logic (II and IIx)--the receiver breathes life into home theater audio, delivering spectacularly crisp, explosive sound for both movies and music. The decoded formats are complemented by JVC's digital audio processor (DAP), which creates dynamic audio soundstages that mimic the acoustics of the most popular live venues. Among the multichannel DAP selections are Theater, Hall, Dance Club, Live Club, and Pavilion.
Internally, the receiver is equipped with a hybrid feedback digital amplifier (version III) and a DSP digital equalizer. The amp runs at 770 watts of total power (110 watts x 7 in surround mode, 110 watts x 2 in stereo mode), which should satisfy all but the largest listening environments. To create an even wider sound field, the receiver offers a virtual surround back function that simulates the effect of a rear surround speaker even if you don't own one. And if you're not quite ready to upgrade to full surround but want to keep your options open, you can employ the receiver's 3D Phonic virtual surround function, which simulates the dynamic realism of full surround sound through your system's pair of stereo speakers.
Busy listeners will appreciate the RX-D206B's AV Compu Link function, which facilitates simple one-touch coordination between your JVC audio and video components. Simply pop a DVD into your JVC DVD player and the RX-D206B automatically activates the receiver and TV while switching them to the proper modes. Meanwhile, people who live in large households will delight in the 3-D Headphone feature, which creates an out-of-the-box surround effect through any ordinary pair of stereo headphones (not included). The receiver even lets you stream audio directly from your computer using its USB PC link, which works with both PCs and Macs.
The RX-D206B isn't just for music and movie fans, as it also offers a Game mode that's designed to enhance the gaming experience. The game mode offers four different settings--RPG (role-playing game), sport, action, and night--each of which creates a customize sound field for the genre type.
Components connect to the unit through its comprehensive series of inputs and outputs, including three digital audio inputs (two optical, one coaxial), four analog audio inputs, and two analog audio outputs. The RX-D206B also acts as an audio/video switcher, with two component video inputs and one output, three S-video inputs and three outputs, and three composite inputs and three outputs.
The RX-D206B is backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Excellent Product.......2007-01-09
Slim design, excellent sound and very easy to use. This was an upgrade from a previous JVC reciever that I had and this one was designed the same way that my previous one was. Once set up everything runs through the device so that you change the setting on the reciever from Cable to DVD and the picture on the TV changes. Also it is about the least expensive 7.1 reciever that I have found and easy backwards compatibility with 5.1 that I still use. All in all this is an excellent product that is worth the price.
Don't buy this one, you'll be disappointed.......2006-12-12
This is the worst decision I've made in purchasing consumer electronics. It is not worth the money. The quality is quite ppor and the hype about persormance is just that - HYPE. I should have returned it but for the moment it is in my garage under an inch of dust.
one star as a coffee warmer.......2006-12-05
On top of the case of the JVC RX-D206B is a white sticker printed in red with the message
"Caution: To protect from risk of fire or electrical shock don't put any objects on top/sides, don't block them, and do keep proper ventilation." The case for this receiver/amplifier became too hot to touch, and since it was my intention to install this device in a cabinet for a bedroom music system, I felt it presented too much risk even with ventilation fans installed. I had bought the device for its low profile, but perhaps that is its inherent problem. In any case I either received a defective item or it suffers from a defective design. Therefore I have returned it to the seller and purchased a stereo amplifier as a replacement.
Love the simplicity.......2006-10-26
I bought this receiver for two reasons: one, I already had a JVC television and I like my components to match; and two, simplicity. So many receivers out there have a ridiculous number of features that I just don't want. I consider myself to be pretty tech-savvy, but I also put a high value on clean design. This receiver has 7.1 channels, but I would have been even happier if it only had 5.1 and was $20 cheaper. I bought some Polk sub/satellite speakers to go along with it, and everything sounds great.

Customer Reviews:
I love this sound!.......2007-07-21
First off, I bought this mainly for music listening, but I will be using it for movies also.
I always had personal a problem with digital receivers...they had clarity but lacked warmth and a powerful sound. Let me tell you, this has everything I like in a sound... digital clarity, no distortion, but yet it does not sacrifice warmth and presence- better described as a powerful sound.
To be straight forward, the sound quality for this is awsome!!!
My set up with this is my computer, using FLAC files because I am an audiophile, through usb. The price is amazing for what I got! This unit sounds better than a Sony ES receiver that I listened to at a store that cost over $1000.00.
I am so glad I bought this. Furthermore, I cant believe I got a such a good deal at the price it goes for. Take it from a picky person for audio, this unit gets the job done far beyond the call of duty.
Yay JVC!
Advantages
-JVCs Hybrid Feedback technology!
-Digital Clarity
-Strong Highs
-Strong and tight base
-Sound has warmth and power to it...does not sound like a typical sterile digital source that lacks fullness.
-Price and value...what a steal for what your getting!
-USB Connection
Cons
- Wish USB was in the back.
- Wish the appearance was as fancy as it's previous model, the jvc rx f10.
Everything Works...mostly, kinda.......2007-06-09
I've had my RX-D201S continuously powered on for the last six months, and it still works. The unit does get very warm. The USB connection has worked great from day one, and that is why I bought this unit. A paid $168.00 (shipping included), and I thought it was a good price, since a good USB sound card will cost that much itself.
The only problem I've had is that a small amount of noise (clicks & pops) is generated over the USB connection. The noise only occurs when playing 44.1khz audio (most all CD & Mp3-not music video or movies) through USB. This could be a fault with the unit or my laptop. I'd like to ask JVC customer support about it, but JVC does not seem to offer customer support, as none of my emails were answered.
Bottom Line: You won't mistake this unit for one that costs $300+
Speaker wire connectors are cheap.......2007-03-13
I was looking at the entire series of JVC receivers, the 205, 211, 302, 411 and 702. I almost got a 211 but I noticed the speaker wire connectors on the back are the cheap push in clamps. Those tend to break off bits of
wire and cause short circuits. The 702 uses the good screw down connectors. The 402 uses half of each! I strongly suggest you go to [...], click on support, enter the model number and download the owners manual before buying. The description on Amazon only scratches the surface. Otherwise these look like good electronics although I would get a lower end model since they will all shortly be obsolete.
I love digital amp receivers!.......2007-02-08
I originally bought the 401 but exchanged it for the 205 as the 401 was much too complicated for my purposes. I also found that the HDMIs on the 401 are for convience (fewer cables) and does not make any noticable improvements over component connects. When I up-grade to HD-DVD I can still run an HDMI into my LCD-HDTV with a digital audio out to the 205. The 205 does not have all the extra features of the 401 but it performs just as well. I use the 205 for surround in my bedroom driving 7 JBL sats and sub. It doesn't seem to have quite the power of my living room Panny XR55 (driving big athenas and sunfire sub) but it still does the job remarkably well. I do think it's more attractive than the panny, more compact and costs less. It gets warm but so did the 401. The remote is small but I had planned to buy a Harmony universal anyway so it was a non issue.
Superb sound quality, excellent feature set.......2007-01-28
I am using the unit for audio applications, not home theater (which I may try later). The receiver drives my Klipsch speakers providing a sound that is very distinct and yet without sharp edges. All members of my critical-eared family love the sound. The direction connection via USB works wonderfully with my Digital Juke Box (MediaMonkey). This important feature is not available in most competitive products. In fact, I was so happy with this product that within two weeks I bought a second one for another room.
I like the surround sound generated through DSP for 2 channel stereo recordings. The product has a ton of features. It takes some time to read the manual but it is mostly clear. There are so many different environments in which this product may be used that setting it up properly will take more than 5 minutes. But the large number of setup options (a good thing) makes this unavoidable. The setup procedure is implemented fairly well.
The value one receives for this modestly priced product is incredible. JVC has done a great job.
