A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 32-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. I got this TV around Thanksgiving 2007 for a really^2 good deal.
I'm very satisfied w/ the product; extremely good picture quality, no dead pixels. I also like grand look of this TV - piano black panel, SRS sounds real, up-converted DVD looks stunning, plenty of custom settings available, though default settings produce great picture quality, Stable Sound works well for cable TV, but I turn it off if I'm gonna watch a DVD.
I purchased this based on the technical specifications, Amazon customer reviews and Consumer Report - this TV is one of the 2007 best LCD. I tried to look at the TV at local retailers, but among all LCDs turned on, this TV was turned off ??? I ordered it anyway. Then, b4 the TV arrived, I got the chance to see the TV side by side with Sony. I don't see the difference. Since the panel is piano-black, I can see if the TV produces "real" black or not. Yes, the TV is capable of displaying black quite well. Night scenes are great. Watching 300 (Spartans) on this TV is GREAT!!!
This TV has 14-bit digital video processor, and I believe, it outputs 10 bits. What it means is you get more levels/combinations of colors. For example, you will see the orange as orange, not red or yellow. Contrast Ratio? It's got enough to see those night scenes in 300 movie clearly. Blacks are real blacks, not grayish black.
Sound - simply great! those virtual surround sound actually works, of course if you sit in front of the TV. 3D sound effects are also great.
Size- yes, this TV is a bit bulkier than its competitors. But it's more loaded, technically.
Resolution - 720p is enough for a 32" LCD TV because you will not see the difference between 1080p and 720p on a 32" TV from a 6-9 feet distance. But if you gonna go for more than 37", consider 1080p.
I compared technical specifications of different TVs in this price range and size. To me, this Toshiba TV seems to be more technically sophisticated. Compared to XBR4, they both have similar video processing power but XBR4 offer 120Hz which is good for sport-fan. Unless you are willing to pay twice, you might wanna get the REGZA.
Overall, this TV is of very high value. You get more the bucks.
Horrible Shipping!.......2007-12-26
I ordered my tv on December 12 and was supposed to receive it on December 20. Needless to say, the tv never came. I called Eagle time and time again and they have given me nothing but the run around and not once have they returned any of my calls. The tv was supposed to be a Christmas present but thanks to Eagle that never happened. I will be calling Amazon to get another tv or a refund tomorrow. And this will be the third time that I have called them.

Fantastic TV. Only complaint is that there is only one coaxial input instead of two. Other than that, everything about it is just fine. 3 HDMI inputs are very handy and the picture quality is better than anything else in it's category.

At first I had doubts about this set because the picture seemed washed out and just unacceptable. I decided to wait until I got my new DVR with expanded HD capabilities before I returned it. The installer from the satellite provider explained that my connections were incorrect and set it up correctly. Now, WOW, the picture is incredible in HD and even SD channels look great. This will handle 1080i input even though it was rated at 720p if you use HDMI cable connect. Toshiba makes a great product, this one looks as good as my 52" that cost three times as much! It will take you a while to "tweak" it correctly, but you will be satisfied once you get it right.

This tv is worth the price and is a good tv. It does have a decent picture with basic cable and looks great for a 720p with HD content. It also does pick up a good bit of extra channels such as digital channels and movie channels that you can't get on a normal tv. Its not the best tv but for its price its really great.

The Sharp AQOUS LC-32D62U is great 32 inch set brilliant colors and great contrast ratio. It does have its short comings only one S input and two HDMI inputs and the remote has limited capabilities as far the input selection is concerned -was disappointed with the functionality of the remote . I guess the bigger sets have better inputs and a better tv remote capability .

This flat screen is great and easy to hook up,it works great with satillite. I have it hook to tivo,dvd and vcr and it does a great job.

This TV is everything I wanted it to be. I don't mean to sound like a shill, but there are so many reasons I'm happy with this television. I was buying without any experience with the brand, but it has really
It was easy to set up; you just screw in a few bolts with the parts included. The actual television is so modern and stylish. I've so enjoyed just looking at it and admiring the smooth, glossy finish. The actual picture quality is great, though I have to admit I have yet to plug in a 1080p source [there are plenty of other reviews that would confirm that aspect's quality, I'm sure]. Everything is definitely grainier because of showing low resolution sources on a hi-def screen, but I'm absolutely confident that when I get a 360 hooked up later on, it'll be splendid [those HDMI ports are just waiting for love]. The physical screen, by the way, is great; it's TFT, meaning it's more matte than shiny, and thus easier to see with light on it.
The menu was a big deal to me; I'm still enjoying the clean, attractive interface, but the main thing I like so much is how easily some functions work with the remote. Since I'm using sources that aren't hi-def, I like to stretch them out to the edge of the screen. The remote has a button [view mode] to switch through several stretched-out viewing settings, and I've found that really useful. A few other useful features of the remote are being able to customize several "favorite channel" buttons, a button to turn on a backlight behind the remote's buttons, and a button to quickly switch through inputs.
The speakers are really quite excellent for something /included/ in a television; they're good and loud [I've never turned them more than halfway up], though they lack a little bottom end [and with good reason; where the hell would they stick a subwoofer?].
That's all I have to say, really; if anyone has any questions about my experiences with this TV, I'll be willing to try to answer them.
Works as a PC/Mac monitor.......2007-12-10
I bought the Aquos LC32D62U mainly as a Mac laptop external LCD display. Overall I'm quite satisfied. Using a converter cable between the computer's DVI port and the Sharp's HDMI port, the resolution displayed is 1920x1080 on the Sharp. The user has to select an input mode on the Sharp that is "pixel-to-pixel", which basically gives you your computer screen exactly as you see it on your laptop. In MS Word I can display 3 pages side-by-side at 100% document zoom. 12 pt font is readable, but not great. At 125% zoom I can display 2 pages side-by-side, with about 6 inches extra space on the screen on each side, and the 12 pt font is fairly smooth and readable. At 150% document zoom, I have 2 pages side-by-side filling the Sharp screen and the 12 pt font is easy to read. The panel that I received had no dead pixels. Every now and then at startup the computer does not recognize that it is connected to the Sharp as an external display, though I can fix this with some fiddling. The other similar Sharp model that ends in gp1u has a dvi input port, which may help in this situation, though it's not significant problem in my case. Other users may have different results depending on the graphics card and the screen resolutions that are supported.

I love it. Not much of a HDTV geek, so I don't know what, specifically, to tell you. I received mine in good order and on time. It was easy to set up and looks great. I haven't had any issues with it or even any head scratching trying to figure it out. It works and well.

I had to re-order this television after the first order was cancelled due to the item being out of stock. The first order was from a vendor not suppoted by Amazon.com and what a mistake that was. The second order for the Toshiba REGZA 32" LCD/DVD combo was directly from Amazon. The order went through right away and was delivered quickly. I am both satisfied with Amazon and the product.
White Smoke / Very disappointing.......2007-12-23
When I connected the TV to the electric outlet it began to throw large amounts of white smoke with a toxic smell. This is very disappointing as this TV set apparently was high rated.
I buy a lot from amazon and never experienced any problems before.
Now I'm waiting for amazon response in order to return this item and have a refund.
The TV set looks very nice aesthetically, however, this in not very relevant if it doesn't work.
Next time I would stick with the traditional brands.
Leave TOSHIBA for the laptops.
I got just what I wanted........2007-12-21
I bought this TV for hanging on the wall in the bedroom. It is doing its job nicely. My one criticism is that the menu is not intuitive whatsoever. We also recently got a Vizio plasma tv. The set up and menus for that tv were a cinch. I suppose that is my comparison. This Toshiba required some effort to get through the menu. Now that I am learning it, it is okay. Just not intuitive. I like the three level mute function. We are getting a decent standard def picture over our Dish Satellite. The built in DVD player which I opted for cost only $38 more. It is working very well. The shiny black case of the TV is attractive. The sound is just fine.

Great LCD for a good price.......2007-12-19
This LCD TV is about as good as you can do for the price. Toshiba is a top notch brand that rivals Sony for best LCDs. It has a great picture from the internal digital tuner (over-the-air brodcast w/ rabbit ears) and from a satellite feed. HD broadcasts are superb. The DVD player is pretty standard and the side mount makes it difficult to install the TV in a cabinet, etc. but with an articulating wall mount, that is not an issue. The menus are not as intuitive as others but are adequate for fine tuning. Gripes about the settings not staying put are unfounded - read your manual!

Great TV.......2007-12-26
This is a great TV. The picture is very nice and clear. I just wish I would have gotten the bigger one! The price was right too, compared to others I've looked at. It was shipped (FREE) right to my house in 5 days. I did not have the delivery man set it up although he offered. All in all I was very pleased with this purchase. (I also bought the Playstation3 and an HDMI cable, and what a difference the cable made when watching blu-ray discs and playing games.)

I absolutely LOVE this tv. I just purchased it a couple weeks ago and this was after months of searching for the right tv. The picture on it is amazing and it have good sound quality. The tv itself is very aesthetically pleasing and from a girls perspective very cute. It shipped right away and I had it less than a week afer I purchased it. I'm overall very happy with my purchase.
Sharp's 6ms Refresh Rate Makes A Big Difference........2007-10-29
In my opinion, the Sharp LC-32D43U and LC-32D42U provide the best overall value for the money, when compared to comparably priced 720p native resolution LCD TVs.
I have owned the Sharp LC-32D42U for 4 months now and I couldn't be happier. The Sharp LC-32D42U and LC-32D43U 720p TVs are identical, with these exceptions: The 42U has a low-gloss frame with a silver base while the 43U has a high-gloss screen frame with a black base. (The 42U is a lower cost warehouse version and the 43U is a higher cost department store version.)
One downside to these Sharp TVs is that they reportedly do not do well deinterlacing or recognizing 3:2 pulldown when fed 1080i signals. However, when fed their native 720p signals, these TVs perform beautifully. Some reviews also mention subpar standard-definition 480i video processing (I rarely watch analog TV or VHS); fewer picture adjustments than many LCDs (this has not presented a problem for me); inability to change aspect ratios with HDMI sources (this won't bother purists who appreciate a movie director's intended aspect ratio). When fed a 720p signal from a cable or satellite box, HD reception looks great. (Sharp also recommends that the 720p output setting be used with Blu-Ray and HD players.) I have not experimented with the computer input, but most people report being satisfied with it.
In spite of its faults, the main attraction of these two Sharp LCDs is that they produce outstanding picture quality with 720p input: Deep blacks, vivid contrast, accurate colors and a very fast 6ms refresh rate which makes a big difference during fast motion scenes. When viewed next to comparably priced Sony, Samsung and Toshiba LCDs with 8ms refresh rates during fast panning and other fast motion scenes, the clarity of the Sharp TVs is vastly superior. This fast refresh rate is also the reason that many gamers prefer the Sharp TVs.
Unlike several other LCD brands, all of the Sharp digital processing (automatic brightness, enhanced picture contrast, black level expansion and digital noise reduction) can be disabled. The LC-32D42U can be found in the $700 range, making it a much better buy than its higher priced fraternal twin, the LC-32D43U. Also, the industry trend toward low-gloss LCD screen frames (such as the one found on the LC-32D42U) makes good sense, because black matte screen frames do not reflect room light or show dust and fingerprints.
Admittedly, the Sharp TVs do not have the greatest sound. However, the Sharp TVs can be configured to variable stereo audio output (simultaneously muting the TV's internal speakers) and the volume level of external self powered speakers (I am using an Altec Lansing 3-piece computer speaker system) can be controlled with the Sharp remote. Wireless headphones can also be used, with full volume control from the remote and the TV also has an optical output which can be used to direct digital sound to a surround sound receiver.
Great LCD for the money.......2007-10-24
For the money this is a really good LCD. The picture quality is fantastic, but I have to agree with several other reviewers who noted the sound quality of the speakers is pretty disappointing. I had to hookup a pair of external speakers the same afternoon I bought the television. Even with the volume turned up high these speakers just don't deliver much sound. The other thing worth mentioning is that the base of the set doesn't swivel, so if you were hoping to rotate the screen forget it. Setup was easy, and the television weighs next to nothing (I'm guessing 25 lbs or so) compared to our old 27" CRT!

Viewing angle is wonderful--if you were worried about LCD viewing angles, it won't be an issue with this TV.
Sound quality is not superior, especially for this price range, but acceptable.
IF you are like me and had not subscribed to HD services, but want an HDTV to alleviate having to upgrade in the future, you will be disappointed in the picture quality for standard definition programming (unless you already have a big screen TV and have gotten used to the degraded quality on bigger screens. The picture on my 13" RCA TV blows this one out of the water in regards to standard def viewing).
I've upgraded to HD programming, and the HD pic quality is great.
In researching for HDTV's (including using the Consumer Reports website to which I subscribe), I kept reading about how standard def viewing was still great on these TV's. Not sure what comparisons are being used, but if you are upgrading from a small set, don't expect sharp quality on these TV's out of the box without HD programming.
This TV was purchased on amazon.com through the seller "Electronics Expo"--shipping was fast and item was well packaged.

What a great television. All of the reviews, including those located on Amazon and one by Consumer Reports, indicated this is a great TV for the price, and I have to agree. Although a 768 resolution, at 32" this is not an issue. HD is great, but I am really amazing at the quality of the SD programs. I've only had it a couple of days, but absolutely nothing negative to say at this point.
Ordered from Amazon but shipped from Electronics Expo -- TV arrived one day earlier than scheduled (serveral earlier than that indicated when I ordered). Arrived via UPS. Package in perfect condition. No issues with the seller, shipper, or the TV. And at a cost of $788 including shipping, a very good value!
A Good Purchase.......2007-12-01
Having done a lot of research and originally looking at the cheaper Toshiba Regza, a couple of Sony Bravias, and the Aquoses from Sharp, I was happy to settle on this one. Now, having the TV for 4 weeks, I cannot be happier. My complain for the Toshiba was that the image was not that great. Sure, it had better images than the Bravia M series (the entry Sony LCD) and the non-Aquos Sharp (there was a reason that Sharp did not want to put their Aquos name on their budget TV), but that is not speaking much. Now about the Sharps I was looking at (43U and 62U series). The 43U is ugly. Even my girlfriend thought it looked "cheap" when she saw it at a local Bestbuy. But one good thing is that Sharp has good image quality (especially the 62U) not awesome response time. But the sound is so bad on the 43U that you MUST get a speaker, which I thought was counterintuitive since you are spending so much on the TV. The 62U is great, just expensive. The Sony is expensive (excluding the M series). The best bang for the buck for me was the Panasonic. It had the fastest response time (6 seconds), fastest refresh rate (120 compared to 60), GREAT picture, and really good sound. My friends thought I had a n external speaker when we watched DVD at my place the other day. And not to mention the great Panasonic quality. (Consumer Report found that Panasonic had the least malfunction rate and this particular TV scored the highest in their most recent review of LCD TVs.)
Note: this TV is NOT perfect. There are only 2 HDMI and one component inputs for you A/V fans (in comparison, the Toshiba had 3 HDMI and 2 components) and there is NO PC input, but they were not enough to turn me away. (For your reference, I have never used a 32 TV as a computer monitor and do not plan on doing that for the foreseeable future). Oh, there is NO "game mode," but I have never experienced a lag when playing my Wii and PS2.)

I'm very happy with this television but I'm very unhappy with Amazon. After receiving my tv I received a bill for $125 from the shipping company Amazon used to deliever the product and I am in the middle of working with Eagle USA to resolve it. Next, the screws used to mount the tv to the wall were missing and Amazon told me I had to get them directly from Panasonic or return the entire tv so they could send me a new one with the screw included.

Great TV for great price!.......2007-11-30
I bought this TV for amazing price of $500 (really nice sale :) ). For this price, I am very satisfied with the quality product I got. Image is nice and crisp. Especially HD programming - it is just awesome. The only minus I find is that the TV lacks VGA connector. If you have older computer (e.g. it does not provide DVI connector), you have to use S-VHS connection... However, for this price, I can live with that!
JVC throws down the HD gauntlet.......2007-09-10
Allow me to preface my review by saying that before buying my LCD TV I did extensive research in forums, discussion groups, and websites with user reviews like Amazon. I would have loved to have bought a Samsung or Sony, but they were out of my price range. I didn't want to cheap out with an Olevia, Septre, Element, or other "off brand." After reading more user reviews than I could handle, I finally started going to local stores to actually "see" the TVs in action.
That's when I found this JVC 32".
Its picture quality was comparable to the Samsung's and Sony's but for hundrids less.
This TV displays rich blacks with very little gray washout. No ghosting trails to speak of, and sweet bright color.
You may want to adjust the brightness because the default setting was a little dark for my tastes.
The menu allows you a very good degree of control over the picture, though I wish I had more control over the Gama instead of several gamma presets. No biggie though.
The thing I love most about the TV is the digital tuner. All new HDTV's have a digital tuner, so maybe this is nothing special, but I LOVE it.
I don't have cable, but through the antenna on my roof I get a TON of digital channels in really clear quality. To see and HD broadcast pulled out of the air from one of the major stations is just INCREDIBLE.
One thing that may annoy some is the TV's "boot-up" time. When you turn the unit on, its a good 10 seconds before you get a TV or DVD picture. Not a biggie for me though.
One time the unit did "freeze" on me and was non responsive to remote or button commands. I unplugged it, waited for 5 seconds, plugged it back in, and it was fine. That does scare me though as I've only have the unit for 1 month.
This unit makes my Xbox 360 games look Awesome (no motion blur issues), and my DVD's look great, though I now want an HD DVD player, since I've had a taste of true HD (Yum!).
The sound is really good for such small (hidden) speakers, and the unit has an audio out to send a signal to my surround system.
No VGA or DVI port, but I hook my computer up via an DVI to HDMI cable (bought here on Amazon for less than $10) and the picture is hugely awesome!
Why only four stars and not five? Well, the 1 "freeze" really scared me though nothing like that has happened since, no VGA input, & boot-up time issue. This unit is GREAT but not Perfect.
I really do recommend this TV for anyone who wants a high quality picture from a name brand, but can't afford to fork out a Grand for a TV.

I have had this TV for about a month and it can be compared to the best. The TV was easy to setup, very light weight, and with the HD service it can't be any better. Because of the price value I am considering buying a second TV.

Looked at this on display and was not impressed IN 3 DIFFERENT STORES. Read the reviews and bought one anyway at a great price. What can I say "the displays at stores are worthless" make your own judgement on this item. This TV rocks and is good as my Sony and Sharp LCDs and maybe better.
Best TV I've ever owned!.......2007-08-03
I've been putting off buying an HDTV for months now, mainly because of money. But recently I had enough so I decided to purchase this one. I looked at so many different flat-panels and the one thing that bugged me the most is that some of them have the grainy pictures. This tv however is crystal clear, and the contrast ratio is superb! I use it mainly for gaming with my Xbox 360 and I must say the sound and picture quality is excellent. One thing that kinda bummed me was that there was no VGA port on the back to hook my laptop up to. But that is easily settled with a DVI to HDMI cable which costs less than $20. The mounting stand provided has 6 rubber feet and is very stable, and allows you to swivel the tv about 15 degrees to the right or left. The different array of inputs was also impressive. With, 2 component/composite inputs, 2 HDMI inputs, and a composite and s-video and usb inputs on the side, you can hook up a lot of electronics to this tv! Another minor issue was that there was no composite R/L audio outputs to hook it up to my stereo. It only has a digital audio output so you need a digital audio reciever. Overall however I must say that tv has exceeded my expectations and is one of the best investments I've ever made.
