This TV is very good for the price. Specs include: 8ms repsonse time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, ATSC/NTSC tuner, built in DVD player, HDMI in, and others listed in the description.
Features aside, this TV delivers a solid picture. I put it in my roughly 100 sqft. apartment bedroom and it is much larger than the 13" tube TV it replaced. With only a 2-d comb filter, picture sometimes looks a little washed out, but not too too badly. Plus, the 2-d comb filter is only used on the composite-in and NTSC cable in, nothing else. Motion blurring is non-existent at best, and only a mild nuisance at worst. I was watching a Futurama DVD and when the ship flies by at the start of the intro, it gets a little blurry but not so bad that it is a large distraction.
Preset picture modes are good, and the menu gives you quite a bit of wiggle room for fine tuning the picture, given the price of the TV. The menu also has an audio adjustment feature but this does hardly anything to effect the sound. The speakers are only passable. I recommend using the audio out function as it will give you so much more.
progressive scan DVD player itself is a nice compact slot-loading unit with good controls and a decent picture. The remote is easy to use and has a decent range which is good because this TV is NOT compatible with universal remotes (as far as I know anyway).
In short, this is a good solid TV with nice features for a low price. If you are good at shopping around you may be able to get one of these for the same price as a new xbox 360 premium which, might I add, comes in very clearly and crisply through the HDMI in. It's not going to be a "wonderful change the world amazingly superb ridiculous" TV but it is good enough to warrant the price for frugalists.

I've had this tv for a few months now and I can honestly say that I am even happier with it now than I was before.
First off, the speakers are much nicer than previously indicated. This was because of my mistake. The basic treble and bass EQ of the TV was way off and the surround sound simulator makes things even more complicated. However, after some fine tuning I got some really good lows out of the speakers and some good punch. It can't replace home theatre and I still recommend audio out if you have better speakers (I have a Philips 2.1 set-up) but otherwise they work a lot better than before.
Control over individual red, green, and blue color temperatures are really cool. This is something that isn't offered on a lot of sets but it is a blast to fiddle around with.
Black levels are deeper than expected, seems much better than the indicated 1000:1 contrast ratio but only on YPbPr, HDMI, and DVD. For any signal coming in at 480i it is only so-so.
If I have one complaint about this TV now it is that it gets very very hot. This is one set which should be well ventilated. My parents own a Panasonic 42" plasma, and this tv can get hotter than the plasma after only being on about 30 minutes.
Still, it is extremely reliable and gets a 5 for 5 for exceeding standards both in size and price.
Great value and function.......2007-07-03
I got three of these to run slide shows continuously for display and they've been great. I like the side loading DVD player because it keeps it under 4" thick. The only disadvantage I see is that you have to have the remote to use DVD menus. The button controls on the unit are limited and basically only for the TV functions. Overall it's a great value for the size and functionality for the price!

This TV is exactly what we were looking for. The built-in DVD player is a big plus. We wanted to be able to play our in-house DVD movies on this unit, and I was concerned how, and if, they would play. After reading good reviews elsewhere, I ordered it, and have been very satisfied. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

We just got it last week and it came in on time and in good condition. Since it came all the way across the states I was alittle worried. The TV picture is good and the DVD works. It was easy to hook up. I have not yet got the Dish Network remote to run the TV. Hope I can figure it out. I just have to turn it on with one remote and change the channels with the other. The price was real good from Amazon.
I would recomend it.

Failed on VHS Play.......2004-04-28
The picture is great, the sound is great BUT the very first VHS tape I played shut down the entire system. It is now going to the shop AND I get to PAY to have it picked up and delivered ! Toshiba is adamant that this 80+ pound is a portable for me. Customer service knows to say I'm sorry, but are unwilling and unable to change the no-pay-for-pickup warranty terms. I'll update this review post the repair. So far, it's nice but too expensive if it keeps breaking. Buy with caution.

We have been looking and evaluating TV/DVD/VCR sets for over a year.
I waited until the price went down as when it first came out it was $599.
I am glad we have it. It does have the very best picture and is also the best looking. This is my first Toshiba.
It is so nice to plug it in and go.
Notice: as with most of the combos, you cannot watch another channel when recording another. You have to watch what is recording or turn it off as it will record when the TV is off.
It will also copy DVD's to tape if the DVD is NOT copy protected.
Good overall unit; lousy remote control.......2004-01-15
I find the 24" size ideal for the bedroom. It does play DVD-R discs as stated in the specifications, but not all media play equally well. Titles burned using the 1x Verbatim media I purchased at Sam's Club play fine so far; however, the HQT 1X-4X DVD-R media I purchased from CDR/DVDR Media(http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia/index.html) hangs and glitches occasionally during playback. I believe the reflectivity of that media is near the lower threshhold of what the unit can read. The Verbatim discs probably have a higher reflectivity index which makes them easier to read. I'll just shop around until I find some 4x media that provides decent reflectivity and isn't too expensive.
Picture quality is quite good; more than adequate for use in my bedroom. My biggest complaint by far is with the remote control. The basic playback controls in the center split all the other buttons into an upper and a lower bank, with row after row of evenly sized and spaced buttons with confusing, unclear labels. The only functions you'll be able to operate by feel are Power, Play, Stop, Rewind and Forward Scan, and Pause. To skip chapters, navigate DVD menus, or even change channels or adjust volume, you'll have to look at the remote. Really one of the worst-designed remotes I've ever used; very frustrating. A couple of other minor complaints include the logic of the unit. For example, you can eject a videotape and the unit remains off, but try to insert a videotape or even eject a DVD and the TV turns itself on. Still, the picture is quite good, the sound is adequate, and even tapes recorded in my S-VHS deck are watchable (if a touch soft and oversaturated). A better remote, smarter logic, and higher quality sound would earn this unit a five-star rating.

The picture quality on this Toshiba is excellent. DVD playback is very impressive. The remote is easy to use and all the controls are easy to figure out. With no wires or connections it is very easy to just plug in and start using the many excellent features on this product.

Much better then a TV/VCR combo.......2006-05-09
i just bought a RCA TV/DVD combo after my VCR/TV combo mess up on me. I heard that TV/DVD combos never mess up. I love this box it shows great color and good surround sounds. It took me a while to get use-to everything like how to do my settings. I had to turn it on DVD mode but not have a DVD in it just to go to TV Display to set how I want my DVDs to show which in fullscreen not widescreen. This TV can get confusion sometimes cause theirs too much you have to do in order to hear both speakers play you have to set it that way.

Good quality - all functions work fine. Manual and remote are fairly easy to figure out. Nice having both DVD and VCR for tapes that are not available on DVD.
Negatives: very heavy, and will not play DVD+R discs!

I ordered this as an extra TV in a spare room. The speaker system is not very good. Very distorted. I am very disappointed with this purchase. I have always liked Toshiba products, but this model is awful. I would not endorse.

My husband and I shopped several stores looking for a 24-27 in TV that had a good quality picture with built in VCR & DVD
(that also played dvd-rw, mp3 etc.). It was to replace an existing Tv and VCR we had in our bedroom. We thought if we could find it all in one for a decent price that would be the simplest and allow us to have it all. But we were also limited by width dimensions for our entertainment center and found this became an issue for some models with speakers built into the sides. After going back and forth comparing picture quality with just TV vs the "All in One combo". We had given up on the idea and estimated we would have to pay a total of about $600 and purchase each unit separately. But then we found this one at Sears on sale for $360, It met all the criteria and seemed to have good picture quality (although it's hard to tell when you see a LCD or plasma screens next to it). Plus it had a bonus of the media card feature even though we weren't sure we would use it as it was new to us. We wrapped up the deal and headed home to see if the TV would pass the test of quality picture and if the dvd player would play all the different types of media without locking up or giving an error message. Amazingly we are thrilled with the picture and the dvd passed all the tests and played every format that we had on dvd. We even tried the media card option and were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed looking at photos on the TV as a slideshow. It had been a long day of shopping and comparing but we are thrilled with our new purchase

I purchased this TV for our bedroom and couldn't be happier with the picture and features. One word of caution however: It's a heavy TV and the manufacturer's packing material is probably not designed for frequent handling through the mail or freight services. The first TV was severely damaged and had to be returned. The second one arrived undamaged but the styrofoam inserts were busted up pretty good.

We purchased this TV at Best Buy.....within two weeks the VCR player quit working....we took it back & got another on exchange.....within a week the VCR player quit working on the exchanged TV.....we are taking it back this weekend and requesting another brand of TV. I don't think we will be purchasing Sylvania products for a while. Once bitten, twice shy....Twice bitten, a lot more smarter.
I hope this review saves you some hassle. I do not recommend this TV.
