The Value of LCD TVs

Toshiba's Surround Sound feature uses advanced audio processing to mimic the all-encompasing sound of satellite speakers. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

A Very Nice Unit - Great Picture.......2007-12-25
We initially bought this for our camper, and loved it because it packed a DVD player and a HD off air receiver all into one package. It worked great and when camping season was done, we brought it home. We used a small antenna and were able to get several over-the-air HD channels immediately. Our seasonal neighbors at our campground are still erecting giant antennas, and we plunked a small one down with infinitely better picture quality. The HD over-the-air picture is so clear it's hard to believe.
At home, it has performed flawlessly too. It did great connected to Cable, and the picture quality is outstanding. For a multi-purpose unit I have had no disappointments.
Great Little TV.......2007-12-05
This little TV does a lot. It has so many adjustments and different things it can do, it was overwhelming for the first week or so. The operating manual was a little confusing for my level of understanding. Fortunately, my wife and I figured out we could use the "reset" option to get everything working again after exploring and trying many of the adjustments. We were even able to play a CD with jpg photos of our grand kids! We had no issue with the volume as I have read about in other reviews. Maybe turning on the "stable sound" option made the difference. One of the nice features is this little TV's ability to tune in all the "old analog" TV stations (cable and antenna), but also all the "old analog" cable channels and new HDTV channels. It receives virtually all TV stations available. I suppose that's why it is a little slow to surf from channel to channel. The DVD player is really nice for such a small TV. The picture is sharp and clear and does not glare at us the way our big rear projection TV does. The viewing angle is great too. Like other buyers, I had this little TV up and running out of the box very quickly. We use it in our kitchen and it is just right for our counter top. It is light weight and thin. One of the reasons we selected this TV over other brands is the screen size is just right (it does not have a big frame with stereo speakers sticking out on the sides). We've used the TV for several weeks now and have found it to be just right for our application. We made several setup adjustments and no longer find it necessary to do anything but use it now.

We don't make a habit of commenting on my purchases. With this item, we need to change the practice. This set is absolutely exceptional. Beautiful distinct picture. After going through an 11 inch Panasonic, and a 15 inch Magnavox, for the home office, we purchased this one. Definitely a keeper and, if we find a reason to adorn another room with a wall-mounted small set, this will be the one. We're thrilled.

I read all the reviews here, and some elsewhere before deciding to buy this LCD TV. It seemed people either loved it or hated it, so I was a bit nervous buying it. I love it. I bought this TV for my home office.
On the plus side, it hangs well on the wall, and is light weight. I had no trouble setting it up. The sound for me has been great with TV and DVD.
It attached to the vesa wall mount with ease. The picture with DVDs is awesome!
On the minus side, I would like to see the picture clearer with my satellite feed, but to be fair, there is an entire setup menu for getting a clearer picture that I haven't gone through yet because, for right now, it's just fine for me.
I would have no trouble recommending this TV. For it's size, it's a really nice TV.

Sylvania 15" HDTV.......2007-12-23
My wife purchased this TV for a limited space in the kitchen. To receive HDTV we have to rent a box from the cable company. The rental box is too large to fit into the remaining space in the kitchen, so when the switch-over to the new TV transmission takes place, this set will be obsolete.
In The Repair Shop.......2007-12-10
I bought this "Sylvania LD-155sl8 15" LCD HDTV with Built-In-DVD Player" on 9/10/07 and it arrived at my home on 9/13/07.
I had it for 48 days and it stopped working, no picture, no sound, nothing.
On 10/31/07, I shipped the Television ($40.00 shipping costs) to the nearest authorized "FUNAI" service center for repairs and it arrived to them on 11/1/07.
The service center diagnosed the problem, a "Main PC Board" and the Service Center placed an order for the replacement part with FUNAI on 11/6/07.
Today, I am still without the Television.
I watched it for 48 days and the Television has been in the Service Center for 40 days waiting for a replacement part.
I contacted the Corporate Office for help and nothing but, a bunch of excuses!
I will not buy another FUNAI product, based on their lack of urgency to delivery parts to the Service Center.

This is a perfect tv for my kitchen. The sound quality is fine, size is perfect, picture is excellent. DVD is a handy feature, and although I've only used it once, it seems to work well. I'm thinking of getting another of these for a different room.

Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
Response Time refers specifically to LCD monitor and refers to the amount of time it takes for a liquid crystal cell to from active (black) to inactive (white) and back against to active (black). It's measured in milliseconds (ms), and the lower the number the faster the response time--translating to a smoother picture with fewer pixilated or ghosted artifacts.

I purchased this product for my daughter. She saved for over a year and paid for it herself. After a lot of research and searching for the right price; we found this item. The picture quality is great, the sound is great and the fact that there is a built in dvd player was a plus. My daughter and I are really pleased and the price was a great deal. Beware Buyers, this product is no longer sold as pictured. It arrived swiftly from Amazon's sub contractor, in this case Electronics Express; but although the box featured the correct model ID #, the photo on the front was way different from that shown online by Amazon. I tracked this down w/both Electronics Express and Sylvania; apparently the model design has changed and the old one is no longer available. It's the first problem I've ever had w/Amazon, which I've otherwise enjoyed a 100% happy relationship with over the years. Oh and P.S., my refund was handled swiftly and efficiently. I rated the product 1 star just to get the review published (no stars; no publish).
Good TV --- until it died prematurely.......2007-10-19
Except for the sound being slightly weak, this was initially a good TV for the money. Warranty is 6 months parts and labor, 12 months parts only. Mine quit working in month 7, repair labor was estimated at $130 so I decided to junk it. This set is manufactured by the Korean corporation Funai, which apparently owns the Sylvania, Emerson, and Symphonic brand names.

Excellent "portable" TV/DVD.......2005-12-28
Okay, it isn't really that portable, as in "airplane-friendly portable" - it IS a bit large. But if you want a smaller, "MORE portable" TV/DVD as a second set in the house, this baby really cannot be beat. The model I have has an excellent display, true scan LCD. And, it is TOUGH, to boot - it actually fell off an 18" high table onto a brick floor with absolutely no damage save a scratch on the end. Mostly luck, I suppose, but also built-in durability. Too bad about the battery, if true...

I originally bought this as a gift thinking it would be great to have a small LCD TV for my husband's desk and a portable DVD player for traveling. Problem is they no longer make the "optional battery pack" as advertized so it really isn't portable. You could get a better quality LCD TV for a lot less then this unit which doesn't do as Toshiba claims
Great Picture and Very Portable.......2004-12-21
I find this unit is well built and it has an excellent picture with a good quality signal source in. While a tad heavy relative to what you would guess while looking at it, I transport it easily in a 15"H x 3"W x 18"L padded portfolio laptop-styled carry bag and use it mostly on my boat. I have had no trouble playing any DVD's in it and they too present a very fine picture. I suspect another reviwer who complains got a bad sample or lacks a decent antenna system or signal source in. I don't have his problems and have compared the picture directly and favorably to my high quality large Sony TV picture with a satillite signal into each and adjusting distance for each. A very nice unit.

- Very heavy. I expected it to be somewhat heavy given the screen size, but it's quite a bit bigger than I expected. Much bigger and heavier than my 3 year old notebook
- Won't play DVD-R's. Despite what it says, I tried 5 different movies recorded on DVD-R's and none of them worked. They all work on all 4 DVD players I have in my house, but none of them work on the this thing.
- Brightness bars at the top and bottom of the screen are very apparent in low light conditions. The overall screen brightness is great, but it's overpowering at the top and bottom of the screen. Adjustmenst fix it somewhat, but it's impossible to get rid of completely.
- When the disc is spinning up at startup it sounds like a muffled lawn mower. Very loud. During play it's not noticeable though.
Final notes:
Screen size and sound is great. It's not a very portable device though due to it's weight and clunkiness. My biggest gripe and the reason I won't keep it is the picture quality. It's poor at best and not even close to what a DVD sourced picture should be. If you want a big screen and a device that will connect to anything (tons of I/O ports) at the cost of portability and picture quality this is for you. It however, is not for me.

This set is also DivX Home Theater Certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats that have been burned onto a CD, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4.
Audio
The 15DLV76 features front stereo speakers and a headphones port for private listening. For home theater audio hookups, the unit provides coaxial Dolby Digital and dts surround sound output. The 15DLV76 also plays MP3 and WMA files recorded to compatible disc media.

Picture quality is ok, nothing spectacular. DVD features and usability is pretty substandard; less features than a fischer price toy. The real let-down with this lcd is the audio. The speakers are just horrendous. The sound quality is poor, and doesnt carry very well. What made me laugh at this unit was the included digital audio out. 15" LCD...with a digital audio out and no rca stereo jacks. There is a headpone minijack, although its cheap and easily introduces static into whatever it is feeding. All in all, a pretty poorly designed and executed product. When you look at the price in relation to the features, and add to this the poor audio and average video performance...it isnt any wonder why there are no Toshiba products in my home. Cheap hardware for an exorberant price.

Seems ok. Volume is a little low for me, but the picture is nice. We only got it to watch videos for work and some do it yourself videos. We think only bored or stupid people watch TV.
