dvd player broke after a few uses- got stuck and had to pry open with a knife, now, less than a year later, dvd player still only works occasionally

I bought this TV for my kids and they love it! I finally have a little peace! The remote is a little difficult for them to use but that's easily fixed with a universal that is a little less complicated. My only real complaint is that three times now we've managed to "hit a button" on the remote that causes the picture to go black and white and the only way we can fix it is to turn off the TV, which is a pain if you're in the middle of a movie. Other than that it's one of the best products we've bought so far, I finally got my living room and sanity back!

I have been pretty dissappointed with this TV/DVD combo. The fifth time it was used the DVD player stopped working. We couldn't get it into DVD mode and so the player wouldn't open. And, unfortunately, it had to be shipped to Texas to be fixed. And, the shipping was a LOT. I could have purchased a regular new DVD player for the cost. I don't recommend purchasing this product.
Cute, but..........2006-04-23
I originally purchased this TV for my kids more than a year ago and it is great. My kids love how it looks and the picture quality is great. The only problem I have with it is that the parental controls don't work. The TV won't take the code printed in the instruction manual so I can't program it to only play movies rated for children. I returned the TV for a new one, but the new TV does the same thing. It's not just me- I've had many friends and relatives follow the instructions and try to input the code to no avail. Aside from this, the TV is great.

I bought this tv about 2 years ago and it was a good deal...for a while. But just a few days ago, I noticed that the tube's color is off in some places. At first I thought it got hit by lightning, which has happened to me before. But then I called the Emerson people and apparently this is very common w/their tvs! Not only that, but they refuse to do anything about it even though they admit that it's not my fault and why? Because I don't have the original store receipt. I'm sorry but do they really think their customers keep their original store receipts that long? What would do they do if a customer called about a product they've had for 10 years? Not to mention that they don't need such a thing anyway to verify that it is indeed an Emerson product - it says Emerson right on the tv for heaven's sake! I'm pretty disgusted w/this company and I won't be doing business w/them again.

My last TV,a similar Symphonic TV/VCR combo was purchased back in 1995 at Bradlees dept store,it has acted up as of recent years,but only the past few weeks had the picture tube started to fail.Searching around,I could not find one locally to replace it,so I had to do the internet mail order thing.The new Emerson is almost a carbon copy of the 11 year old Symphonic.They have moved the input jacks to the front but otherwise its the same case and everything.One thing I dont like is the sound.There is only one speaker working and its on the left side.The sound is very muffled and you have to crank it up to 40+ to hear the sound with any volume at all.The old set was loud at 10.There is no troubleshooting in their manual or website regarding sound output.So I think this will last 11 years? I doubt it.I miss my old Symphonic already......

I use-to have a Emerson TV/VCR combo and it use-to ack so retorted. Let me explain the problems.
1. Sometimes when you put the tape in it automatically cutes to TV off by itself.
2. It won't let you stop and rewind or fast foward it so it can go faster.
3. The tape gets stuck in it and won't let you eject.
So I had enough I just threw the whole thing in the trash and bought a new RCA TV/DVD combo at Wal-Mart cause I never hear about those messing up like I hear about the VCRs from other people.

This TV delivers a perfect picture and a pristine sound. The dvd works very well, and I have not had any problems whatsoever.
The only thing is that I have a Dish Network remote, and for some reason, the remote does not have the code for this tv. You cannot power on and off without the proprietary Emerson remote control.
But this is a small thing. Excellent quality for an excellent price!

I read the reviews for this after buying this tv for my son at Christmas and really hoped that I wouldn't have any problems. We have enjoyed the tv. Only DVD's are watched on it, no regular tv at all so it has not been overused by any means. We have been having problems with it since Saturday with the audio going in and out. I hope the next tv won't be a dud!!! It cost too much to only work 3 months. I'm disappointed....but hopeful for the next.

DO NOT BUY!!! I'm getting ready to return the second unit I've gotten from Wal-Mart, BOTH of which have had the exact same problem. In less than one month's time, the TV loses all audio output. Picture still works fine (Hence the title of this review...), but nothing from the speakers, nothing from the headphone jack, just absolute silence is all you get. Seems to be some sort of manufacturer error, but nothing about it on Emerson's (the manufacturer's) or Nicktronics' (The distributor's) site. This is an inferior product.

We got this TV as a baby shower gift, and it was awesome for a while. We hooked a DVD player to it and I was able to watch movies while on bedrest. Then the remote stopped working, and the only way to switch input from cable to video is through the remote.
We bought a Universal and after we finally found the code, the buttons on the universal didn't correspond to the right features on the TV so the universal was useless as well. I can't find a replacement remote anywhere and I haven't been able to get through to Emerson about getting another one.
