We purchased our Vizio 32" HD LCD TV with the extended 5 year warranty from Sears in August 2007. The TV works great and we've had NO complaints. The color and resolution is as good as the higher priced competition. The remote control is easy to navigate and use. It is our bedroom TV and gets used 7 days a week. For the price you cannot beat this product. The extended 5 year warranty gave us peace of mind and was very affordable. I'd recommend Vizio products based on this purchase and I'd consider their larger LCD HD TV's as well.
Second time for repair in 2 years.......2007-11-20
I bought this new from Sam's Club and was thrilled for about three months until the set needed the mother board replaced. Well VIZIO sent a repair person out at no cost as I live in Southern California and the TV was under warranty. However, now that the warranty has expired (perhaps four months ago). the main board overheats and you can only watch the TV for about 30 - 40 minutes at a time until it cools down. Unfortunately, it has no room for anti-freeze. I'm going to call VIZIO and ask how much it is to repair, however my policy has always been never to throw good money after bad. So I guess I'll be dusting off that old tube TV which works just fine and wait till after New Years, or until China invades.

I am going to review this Vizio. It was horrible since day 1. It worked for 30 minutes and the sound went off. Not good. I returned it and bought a different kind.

Do yourself a favor and buy anything BUT A VIZIO. Purchased on 7/13/06 and on 9/27/07 it caught on fire....YES...you are reading this right. IT CAUGHT ON FIRE! Thank goodness my wife and I were both at home and I was able to put the fire out very quickly. Talked with Level 2 Tech Assistance - they had a guy come out....said: yep, looks like the power supply burned up. Vizo was going to ship a power supply Tuesday, a week ago, and they said they would send it overnight. I have yet to see it. Why bother with sending a new power supply, the darn thing is toast anyway. Dumb people! Anyway, please do yourself a favor. If you have just bought one - quick take it back.

Poor quality, poor service.......2006-09-30
I bought a sharp lcd tv from j& r in new york last Jan, after a year and half, when powering on the tv, sometimes works, sometimes not. after unplug in, wait for a while and plug back, worked for a couple months. Send it to service center to checkup, was told that the lcd control board needs to be replaced. when request to get back the replaced lcd control board, was told that sharp does not give back the replaced board, it has to be shipped back, otherwise, you have to pay additional fee to get back the replaced board.. it's rather strange to hear such a lousy policy from any vendor..
But, if you do want to get a sharp, better get a long long warranty..

This T.V automatically shuts down after 5 "errors"..I got it from J&R Music and Computer (N.Y).. According to the service tech,this $3,600.00 T.V arrived broken. It has been in the repair shop longer than in my own home..........

I purchased my system a few months ago and I am very pleased with it. I love how there is a separate unit to house all the cables. I think it is a lot smarter to buy this model as opposed to the one with the HDTV tuner built in. This model is a lot cheaper and Comcast supplied me with a digital cable box with an HDTV tuner built in. I refuse to watch sports unless it is via HDTV. The clarity of this TV is very clean and crisp. I highly recommend it.
Pretty good TV........2005-01-12
I ordered this TV from amazon, and got delivered promptly as per the delivery estimate provided. Entire process is very pleasent and smooth.
Setup is easy, but my DVD player was not able to send digital signals, so I bought LG Electronics HD Receiver/Hi-Format DVD Player (LST3510A), which delivered 720p signal from my DVD, resulted in really sharp picture. I just connected with component video output.
Overall I'm pleased with my purchase.
Very Happy with the Sharp Aquos 32G4U.......2005-01-02
We've had the Aquos TV for a few weeks at this date and are very happy with the picture quality for standard DirecTV, DVD, and PC viewing. We have not upgraded to an HD feed yet, but we were honestly surprised by the improved picture of standard DirecTV versus our previous television (standard CRT).
Pluses:
1) We have found the A/V box design to be great for hiding all the input cables.
2) Sharp offers a couple of different stretch modes to choose from.
3) There are 6 input sources and ability to assign custom names to each.
4) The unit remembers the volume, stretch, and picture settings for each input source. Sounds like a small thing but it is really appreciated by us.
5) The Sharp menus and remote are nicely designed.
6) Speakers sound good for listening to regular content.
7) TV outputs for video capture.
8) Aesthetically pleasing.
9) Vivid pictures!
10) The stand allows the screen to swivel and pivot for optimum positioning. The degrees of rotational are small but effective.
11) Works very well for PC viewing.
12) Placement of the control buttons on top of the panel work nice for us.
Minuses:
1) Only one S-Video input and it is on the front of the A/V box. Won't be an issue after we upgrade our DirecTV receiver but it seems like an oversight not to include one s-Video input on the back of the A/V box.
2) 1080p support is questionable. This may be an issue in the future as true 1080 becomes widely available. Perhaps the A/V box can be upgraded.
3) Expensive. We originally wanted a 37" TV but could not justify the price. However, we were so pleased with all the features mentioned above that we went with the smaller 32" versus other less expensive products.
4) We are not using all input sources, it would be nice if we could disable the unused inputs so they would not appear in the menu.
5) Faint fan noise in the A/V box (this is probably a nit, it's only detectable if TV is muted).
Thanks to all the previous reviewers on this product and other products. The customer feedback really helped us make and informed decision. It can get confusing with all the different display technologies available. Also, some products have known defects that you will only learn about from internet research.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image. This set also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.
The Active Control function uniquely and intelligently optimizes picture quality by measuring and analyzing the incoming signal to automatically adjust picture quality settings. Active Control with Light Sensor uses a sensor to adjust the picture brightness depending on the room light conditions.

HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. Great TV...at first, then...big problems!.......2007-05-04
After 10 months of perfect viewing, this tv developed bugs. First, upon start-up the image would be blk/wht and only cycling the power would return the color. Then 2.5 months later, right when warranty ended, no sound upon start-up, too-bright image, a glitch, then sound comes on but image is blk/wht. After 4 min, the image returns to normal.
Philips tv's have quality issues. Do a search on youtube or google and you'll find many other unhappy Philips consumers.
Great TV couple of irritations.......2006-11-16
I've had this screen for a year. As a European ex-pat currently living in the US, I was looking for something that was multi voltage and multi system (so that I wasn't lumbered with a big PC monitor on my return) and this was the only screen that fit my requirements.
Really pleased with picture quality and functionality. Downsides:
*) AV switching is a bit of a button fest - and not compatible with some multi-remotes (including, ironically the Philips RC9800i)
*) As reported by others, in HD mode, the screen blanks for a couple of seconds when 'overloaded' by a bright signal - this is particularly noticible in CSI when the cameras flash. I've tried different cables to no avail.
*) Not very loud on the HDMI - often find I have to crank it up past 80 for DVDs from an LG LDA-511
The frustrating thing is that all of these are fixable in software - but it doesn't look like there is an easy way to update the firmware.
So, overall, a quality versatile TV let down by a couple of simple flaws.

I bought this last week at Sam's, and am AMAZED at the picture, esp. the HD. After taking back a Vizio piece of crap, this is more like it. I installed it in my basement family room, and it doubles as the computer monitor. My ONLY regret is that they didnt have another one for our bedroom !!!
Good budget model, a couple of flaws.......2006-03-16
I bought this model because it works on US & European voltages and both PAL and NTSC signals which is a feature not many other models have.
The picture is very sharp on HD channels, but does show up the flaws on NTSC channels over my digital cable box (let's face it - there is a huge difference in picture quality between these two broadcasting standards)! I wouldn't recommend this TV for anyone who doesn't have a HD source.
PIP only works with certain inputs but this is no big deal.
PC-VGA input isn't fantastically sharp so also wouldn't recommend this as a primary monitor. Although 1024x768 is the official supported resolution for VGA input I set my PC input to 1366x768@60Hz and it works well.Note that there is some bleed over between HD component input and VGA output - when the VGA cable is plugged in it gave a little picture and sound interference when viewing the HD component source.
Speakers aren't very powerful and sadly not detachable. I use my surround sound amp instead.
The HD component input has a 'bug' which results in the screen going blank for half a second (with an error "unsupported resolution") whenever there's a bright flash on screen in a HD resolution. I bought a HDMI cable and this resolved the problem but this might be an issue if you don't have a HD source with HDMI output.
Overall, though, this is a great TV with excellent picture quality with HD input and a good price. And the multi-voltage support is useful if you might be taking it abroad sometime.
Best LCD in it's price range........2006-03-06
We bought this HDTV at Sam's Club. It had been previously purchased and returned sating it had bad sound. A local TV repair shop tested it out and nothing was found to be wrong. Sam's knocked $300.00 off thier price since it had been opened. I have tested this TV using every connection and found it to be an outstanding unit. I hooked up our Motorola cable top box to the HDMI input on the TV. The cable box (Charter Cable), has a DVI-D output, so I am using a DVI-D to HDMI converter cable. (Bought the cable at Wal-Mart for $43.00) It is a totally digital connection this way. The picture is fantastic even on non-HDTV signals.
I hooked up our DVD player using the Component video inputs and keep the DVD player on progressive scan, again a great picture.
I have not found any negatives except the remote which is small and hard to handle. I think they made it small/thin to go with the LCD thin TV design. My only complaint, which isn't really an issue for most, is that using composite or the HDMI input for the DVD doesn't allow selecting image formats. Some older DVDs use a native 16:9 display and are not widescreen enhanced, hence you get bars all the way around the image, much like a picture frame. However, most DVDs are widescreen enhanced so they fill the entire screen, or most of it. Also, when expanding an image, you would get less detail because it is "stretching" the video to fit the screen. BTW: Most HDTVs are not capable of changing formats when using anything but the RCA/SVHS hook-ups anyway.
I think most everyone would be happy with this HDTV!
