TV.......2007-12-26
Although it took my husband 2 days to install it the result was great. I love it! Picture & sound are very good.
Sent mine back to Amazon........2007-12-13
Even if mine had worked properly (it didn't) I probably would have still sent it back.
1) Video from the latest iPod models will not display on the LCD screen.
2) The unit protrudes too far from the cabinet if you leave room for the cable connection. My cabinets are standard 12 inches deep and the TV protrudes more than two inches. If your cabinets are deeper this won't be a problem for you.
3) Cheap plastic look and feel. For almost $400 it should be sturdier.
Mine was also defective - one of the speakers didn't work. However, it's very easy to return to Amazon so I would give Amazon 5 stars for customer service.
Be aware of Apple's change.......2007-12-07
The DCD778 has performed adequately. The most important thing you should know is that the dock in this unit is NOT compatible with the new 3G iPod Nano (w/video) or new iPod Classic (also w/video). Apple apparently has changed the output port configuration and video will not be passed to the LCD screen of this unit. Apple's solution is to purchase a $50 cable and pump in the video into the composite and audio ports on the back. Not a very elegant solution.
Installation was mostly problem free although the template could have been more descriptive (just assume the outline of the unit is accurate, and align such that it will stick out as much as you desire from the cabinet per this outline) and my cabinet extends 0.75" below the attachment surface, so I ultimately didn't need any spacers - unfortunately I guessed it did and had to essentially install it twice. They could have easily told you that spacers are not required unless the cabinet front extends more than 0.75" below the attachment surface. You would think they would have you measure this distance and then either set the spacers accordingly or not use them at all as in my case.
I found the user guide is pretty accurate and well written - had no problem programming over the air both analog (NTSC) and digital (ATSC) channels. Appreciate the easy way you can skip channels after the programming because it will find channels outside your viewing area, that will be mostly snow - but can easily be marked to skip them. The video is adequate but it's not high def, and other reviewers comments about it's quality are pretty accurate. Not really their fault, but would have scored the unit one star higher had an iPod nano 3G had worked and would have given it 5 stars if the video had been better.
And to the person who couldn't find the DVD player I understand perfectly. It wasn't until I put it into DVD mode and hit the eject button that it became apparent that it was well hidden behind the display - which drops down. And to the person who complained about the red push, the unit does have picture adjustments for brightness, contrast, tint, and color using the remote. I found a decent picture with all the setting about mid range.
a worthy replacement ............2007-11-02
Bought this little Philips TV as a replacement for a 19 yr old GE Spacemaker 5" color tv. While that old one was good, it finally just died. The DCD778 was one of the few undercabinet models still available, and Amazon's price and guarantee was the best deal. Screen size of 8.5" is a big improvement, and picture clarity is at least as good as the prior TV (which was good for such a little screen). We do occasionally see some of the interference bands one other reviewer saw so heavily, but that does appear to be caused by an electromagnetic field from the FiOS converter box. Mounting the convertor box 15" away under the next cabinet reduced the interference such that it is not annoying, and mounting them both under the cabinets minimized the loss of space underneath or on the kitchen countertop. The swivel screen feature is just as good as the lazy susan bearing mounting I built for the prior TV, and eliminated the problems I had with the input coax cable hanging up on things as the TV swiveled. It's been operating for a month, and all indications are that it was worth the money.
so far so good.......2007-10-01
so far I am satisfied, the item was easy to install under the cabinet, have a good TV signal and audio is what I expected. the DVD eject system is a little slow ejecting, but I can leave with it. I still believe i picked the best one out all the others I researched.
Amazon.com Product Description
Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 32LV67 has both a DVD player and a 32-inch screen, you won't have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design.
The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 32LV67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 37 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.
Full-Featured DVD Player
The 32LV67 includes an integrated, slot-loading DVD player. It has upconverting technology that improves the standard picture definition of regular DVDs to match the 1366 x 768 (720p HDTV) display resolution of the 32LV67.
Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It is also capable of these connections:
- HDMI inputs: 3
- ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
- PC monitor input: 1 (VGA 15 Pin D-Sub)
- RF input: 1 rear
- A/V inputs: 2 (rear and side)
- Optical audio output: 1
Audio
The SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set.
Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.
SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The cabinet includes stereo speakers, but the TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.
Other Features
Channel browser shows you thumb-nail images of the last five channels you've watched at the touch of a button. You can also see previews of your preset Favorite Channels along the bottom of the screen.

Very Satisfied.......2007-12-26
I had to re-order this television after the first order was cancelled due to the item being out of stock. The first order was from a vendor not suppoted by Amazon.com and what a mistake that was. The second order for the Toshiba REGZA 32" LCD/DVD combo was directly from Amazon. The order went through right away and was delivered quickly. I am both satisfied with Amazon and the product.
White Smoke / Very disappointing.......2007-12-23
When I connected the TV to the electric outlet it began to throw large amounts of white smoke with a toxic smell. This is very disappointing as this TV set apparently was high rated.
I buy a lot from amazon and never experienced any problems before.
Now I'm waiting for amazon response in order to return this item and have a refund.
The TV set looks very nice aesthetically, however, this in not very relevant if it doesn't work.
Next time I would stick with the traditional brands.
Leave TOSHIBA for the laptops.
I got just what I wanted........2007-12-21
I bought this TV for hanging on the wall in the bedroom. It is doing its job nicely. My one criticism is that the menu is not intuitive whatsoever. We also recently got a Vizio plasma tv. The set up and menus for that tv were a cinch. I suppose that is my comparison. This Toshiba required some effort to get through the menu. Now that I am learning it, it is okay. Just not intuitive. I like the three level mute function. We are getting a decent standard def picture over our Dish Satellite. The built in DVD player which I opted for cost only $38 more. It is working very well. The shiny black case of the TV is attractive. The sound is just fine.
Great product.......2007-12-21
I love my new Toshiba television! Great picture and the built-in DVD player is a cinch to use. Delivery was fast and the delivery men got it all set up for me just hours before the cableman arrived for hookup. The entire experience was one of the best I have had with any purchase...and the price was the lowest I have seen anywhere. A definite 5-star purchase.
Great LCD for a good price.......2007-12-19
This LCD TV is about as good as you can do for the price. Toshiba is a top notch brand that rivals Sony for best LCDs. It has a great picture from the internal digital tuner (over-the-air brodcast w/ rabbit ears) and from a satellite feed. HD broadcasts are superb. The DVD player is pretty standard and the side mount makes it difficult to install the TV in a cabinet, etc. but with an articulating wall mount, that is not an issue. The menus are not as intuitive as others but are adequate for fine tuning. Gripes about the settings not staying put are unfounded - read your manual!

Just OK as 2nd TV.......2007-12-07
I purchased this LCD to replace an old 27" CRT. Unfortunately, I already miss the old tube. The set is probably fine if you hook it up to a cable or sat box. My issue has been with using it connected directly to cable with no box. The ATSC ( Analog ) tuner in the set is grainy and Channel flipping is slow ( blank screen while it switches channels and re-locks ). Worst of all, there is only a single RF jack. If I want HDTV, I have to go terrestrial or rent a cable box from Comcast for $10/month. I was going to buy an antenna switch to be able to switch from ATSC-Cable to HDTV-Terrestrial, but as far as I can figure, the TV must be configured for either "Cable" or "TV" (Terrestrial) and switching between the two takes minutes to scan and reprogram all of the stations. To be honest, the HDTV tuner works great with a small terrestrial antenna - I just wish I could have both HDTV terrestrial and my analog ATSC cable channels. What I'm settling for is grainy, analog ATSC cable 4:3 for everything. So much for the widescreen!

great sound, clear & beautiful picture, & perfect size for the bedroom...
i got the hd hooked up & now i watch tv in bedroom all the time, expecially

Buyer Beware.......2007-10-03
I can't actually review this item, since I haven't seen it in over a month. It was DOA. I did not read the return policy from the vendor before I ordered it. If I had, I would have realized that their policy is essentially "we can send you anything and you have to take it".
A leaflet in the box gives you the contact number for Toshiba customer service. My TV has sat for over a month at the Toshiba authorized repairman, waiting for a part that has yet to arrive. Yesterday I was told that Toshiba has now decided to send me a replacement unit. That should add an additional week or two to the wait.
I have successfully bought electronics on-line for over a decade. This is by far, the worst experience I have ever had. Lessons learned: 1. read the return policy from the vendor actually selling the item (that is to say, don't expect Amazon to look out for you); 2. Toshiba TV's get a lot of good reviews, but I would give their customer service a 1-star rating; 3. Read and know your credit card dispute policy; 4. Buy your TV at the local department store or mom & pop -- yes you'll pay a little more, but if the TV doesn't work, you'll probably have a replacement the next day. As opposed to taking my route, which equates to numerous, combative phone conversations with strangers, stretched out over a month.
Off-angle view looking up is TERRIBLE!.......2007-10-03
UPDATE: Returned this TV and bought a Toshiba Regza 26" LCD TV/DVD combination (26LV67)...MUCH BETTER!
The Regza has good viewing at all off-angles (including looking up) and has an upconverting DVD player (the 23HLV87 does not). Paid only 'bout $150 more for the Regza 26" and got a better picture & upconverting DVD player-well worth the difference in my book!
ORIGINAL REVIEW
This isn't a bad TV, but be forewarned-the off-angle viewing when looking UP is terrible (looks like a photographic negative). I checked off-angle viewing from the sides in a showroom, but didn't think `bout lying in the floor to check the view looking up! I mistakenly assumed if it looked good from the sides, it would look the same from all angles-it doesn't!
I put this TV in my home office directly above my computer monitor, sitting on a corner unit. The 23HLV87 I had tilted it's max (5 degrees) and still had a couple of mouse pads to get more forward tilt and it still looks terrible looking up. The Regza doesn't tilt forward on it's stand as the 23HLV87 does, but it looks great when looking up even with no forward tilt.
After my experience with this TV, playing around in the showrooms it appears many LCDs smaller than 26" suffer the same (upward) off-angle viewing problem as this Toshiba. Apparently many manufacturers are putting newer/better LCDs in their 26" units.
Toshiba 23HLV87 23" LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player .......2007-10-02
Replacement TV for bedroom after storm damaged several items in house. TV was purchased because of inexpensive cost, now I know why. Very noisey DVD player when first turned on. Channel flicking has a delay between switching before screen pops back on and I still can't figure out the channel return button on the remote (return to previous channel)if there even is one. Picture is OK but what is with this switching channels and the pictures all using different formats? The FCC has made things more complicated than ever out of watching TV. HDTV may make the picture better but it needs to work on making things uncomplicated for the average user.

Customer Reviews:
Great HDTV, with DivX DVD to boot!.......2007-12-11
Beautifully designed, this TV is a great buy! This set is HD ready, with the HD tuner built in. Off-air HD digital reception is fantanstic. We have the TV in our dinette, so not hooked up to our cable in the den. I cannot comment on how the reception would be on digital cable. However, I can say our off-air is great. We have four stations broadcasting 16:9 HD, and another 14 broadcasting digital 4:3, with several analog broadcasts thrown in, so lots of choices. Colors are saturated, details crisp.
The DVD player is slick. At first, when you unpack the TV, you think you've gotten the wrong unit without the DVD player. Low and behold, though, the DVD slit to receive the disk is disguised in the front of the thin stand. Way cool. Unbelievable movies, and DivX to boot! Remote control is easily navigated.
Sound is good with adjustable EQ. We leave the EQ on movie, as this is more robust, even for voice. EQ settings are presets that cannot be adjusted, which could be a notch down for some, but should not be major because the sound quality (in this size TV) is very satisfying out of the box. Numerous inputs will allow many types of devices to input into the TV, if needed, including your computer. The one minor letdown was that the sound out is digital only. So, if you wanted to enhance the sound, like for movies and games, and all you've got on your stereo system are RCA-type aux inputs, such as with many shelftop stereos and iPod-type sound systems, you're out of luck. However, if you have digital input for sound on your sound system, then the sound quality will be pure digital, so I'm sure will be great on your system.
We've only had the set a few weeks, so cannot comment on durability or quality of the build. Hopefully, if we have problems, Philips will be good about service. We've never had a problem before.
In any case, your own eyes and ears, as well as your purposes for purchase and use, will be the final decision, of course. However, you ought to give this unit serious consideration. We are now planted in our dinette, preferring to watch this little beauty rather than the big screen in the den!
Small Room TV.......2007-11-30
This TV is an excellant product, easy to set up and use. Very good for the small den we have it in.

Perfect for Seniors.......2007-12-27
We specifically ordered the Sylvania 37" LCD unit because it has an integrated front loading CD/DVD player. My elderly in-laws (mid 80s) have never been able to master the sequence of remote buttons to get from cable to DVD and back. So the DVD unit we got them several years ago was collecting dust.
Now they can. It is as easy as inserting a DVD or CD. Eject the CD or DVD and it is right back to cable TV. So the folks listened to CDs of Christmas carols this year and watched Broadway shows and old war movies on DVD.
They are also thrilled with the HD picture. It is sharp, bright and has vibrant colors. Overall I give the unit high marks with good quality video and audio. With free shipping we received the unit 3 days after ordering it so we were also very impressed by the merchant's handling of the order.
Beware!.......2007-12-26
Unit lasted exactly 98 days. Unit now completely inactive. Service repair a joke... they need 3 months to handle the repair.
Wow-I like it!!!!.......2007-10-25
We went from a 20 inch eighty lb TV to this 37 inch flat LCD. I tried to research as much as possible to get the most for the money. The HD channels are great and the channels not offered in HD are very acceptable with some actually appearing to be HD quality. Like most products, it took some playing around to adjust the tints, ect...but we are very pleased. We went LCD instead of plasma and hopefully this will last the 20 year expectancy of the LCD over the lower life of the plasma. Fingers are crossed, but we purchased the warranty offered via AMAZON. I am not a techno savy person but the set up was simple. The built in DVD is FANTASTIC. No extra routing of lines and the clutter is reduced. As for the picture, sometimes movement can appear a bit blurry, but I have noticed the same on much more expensive flat screens. Of course, the farther away you are from your set, the better the pix. These big screens were not made to be close to. It's a new TV, but so far, I/we really REALLY like it and feel it was a good purchase.

Not quite right........2007-12-09
We have had this TV for three weeks. It's hooked up to an SD DirecTV signal. It does pretty well with an SD signal, but it tends to try to readjust the picture frequently, even during the same show. It's a little bizarre. They other issue we have is with he DVD player. It seems very slow to recognize any DVD. And then it's slow to forward through chapters and can tend to lock up if you try to forward through chapters too quickly. We bought this TV for under $500 at Best Buy, but even at that price it's going back.
Wonderful TV, overpriced at Amazon.......2007-12-04
I recently purchased this TV for my bedroom. It is a good size without being overwhelming, delivers a crisp and sharp picture, and looks great. Plus I love love love the built in DVD player! My single complaint is that it takes an awfully long time to turn on after you hit the power button... Small complaint I know, but that's all I can gripe about it!
BTW, Amazon's price seems awfully high... I just paid fivehundred even and shipping from Costco/Sam's Club. This includes an extra 2 year warranty. Much better buy if you ask me.

BEWARE!!!.......2007-12-18
TV is fine. But Magnovox doesn't tell you that you have to buy additional extension screws in order to mount this TV to the wall - even though it says it mounts with a Standard VESA Wall Mount, it only does so if you call then to buy the extension screws. Customer Service treated me horribly when I tried to challenge this as false advertising. So add another $40 for screws and $90 for a wall mount to this...the cheaper TVs start looking better.
Incredible quality for the price.......2007-06-19
The picture quality is equal to or better than much pricier models. The built in DVD player, which plays Divx as well as every kind of disc, (except SACD and DVD-A) makes for a sleek, wall-mountable unit.

16:10 screen format??? .......2007-12-24
I purchased this Magnavox TV/DVD 6 months ago and am pleased with the picture and sound quality. I'm using a roof top antenna and pickup several HD channels and many more digital channels. It's great...except the screen size. It's not 16:9 as HD TV is broadcast, but 16:10. The picture is stretched to 10" high instead of the 9" it should be, so everyone is tall and thin. Magnavox should offer a software upgrade to correct this problem or offer replacement TVs. I would not have bought this TV if I was aware of this design problem.
Get The Newest Model: 19MD357B/37.......2007-12-14
Purchase the newest model "/37" and you'll find vast improvements over previous model. Best quality/components by far for price range for this combo style. Shop around for pricing as this model is being agressively marketed by some "big" retailers this Christmas season.
Magnavox Lemon.......2007-09-05
I too had problems with this TV. It would never play any of my DVD's even new ones. After about 3 months, the picture just suddenly died. I can still get sound but no picture. I would never buy another Magnavox.
An excellent HD set, with the proper setup.......2007-08-10
I actually won this TV during a party about 2 months ago. I was initially wary that the people who bought it probably got it as a bargain deal, but after looking at other sets I decided to stick with this one, and I was glad I did.
At first, I was using a 5 year old 25' coaxial cable to hook up the TV to my cable, and received 74 analog channels, which was what I expected. However, I was out shopping the next day and noticed a coax cable that was "optimized for HD TV's." Again, I was wary of anything that looked high quality but would end up being worse than that cable I had. However, after shelling out 15 bucks for the cable, the effect was immediate on the TV. Every channel was clear, and it now picked up 57 digital channels, including HD versions of ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and about 30 digital music channels.
The best part is that the QUAM and ASTC tuners are so sensitive that the TV picks up On Demand signals from neighboring houses when autoprogrammed at the right time (I am not saying that this will work for everyone, but it is pretty cool.)
The DVD player is of standard quality. Truthfully, if I would have actually bought the TV, I wouldn't have let the DVD player influence my buying decision. That is what standalone DVD players are for, and they would give a higher quality signal anyway with and HDMI cable. I have not had any troubles getting the DVD player to read any DVD's, even a DVDR- that was burned from my computer.
It is true that the ratio appears to be 16:10 instead of 16:9, though there are multiple settings that alleviate the problem. The stretch is unnoticeable at most times, and when it is I change the video settings (This cannot be done on HD channels, however.)
Overall, I give the TV five stars because although there is a slight stretch on HD channels, the TV is of superb quality otherwise. Screen resolution, colors, and sound are all of great or excellent quality. The TV is perfect for a dorm, bedroom, or kitchen. I would not let the DVD player influence your purchasing decision, because the primary purpose of the TV is to be a TV, and it does that job admirably.
DVD Lockup.......2007-07-16
I bought this item and loved the TV part. Unfortunately, the DVD is very poor. Items like zoom and slow motion which are standard on even the cheapest of DVDs are missing from this product. Worst of all, the DVD player locked up after about 20 min when the pause was selected. The DVD continued to randomly lock up. The only cure was to unplug the unit for about 5min. The Magnavox customer service line had no suggestions or software updates.

Customer Reviews:
Great LCD HDTV!!! Great Price.......2007-02-20
I owned this HD LCD for a few days now. I think for the price for this 37" LCD, I got a great, easy to use, easy to set up television. Right out of the box, it took me only 7 minutes to set up and enjoy outstanding HD quality. The built-in DVD player is a great feature and it is not in the way at all or can be seen. It all so have a card slot to veiw your pictures from you digital camera and my X-Box 360 looked outstanding and made my gaming that much better. If you are looking for a LCD try it, you won't be disapointed....
