4 out of 5 stars Mele Kalikimaka..Got a 532 H code.......2007-12-11

I was able to get the older 532H model, but I wanted the 537H. I was disappointed that Scientific Atlanta HDTV did not have a code for it. Finally sat down today & did the steps they tell u to do to find a code. It came out to be 0500.
We have TimeWarnerCable here in Hawaii. Big difference now to be able to turn on/off both units, control the volume, mute, & change channels.
Aloha & Mele Kalikimaka.

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price.......2007-11-03

I've owned this set for a couple months now and can say it is a great bargain at $475. The HD picture is incredible and the picture is bright and crisp. The downsides come from the grey to dark contrast and the remote. When you view dark movies like the Matrix it is really hard to see the contrast but when you see dark contrast in HD it is less noticable. The remote is the biggest problem with the set... I suggest you get another. It lags and you have to press it twice to get it to respond. It was remarkable that such a nice TV couldn't come with a decent remote. For the money I paid it was a steal to other sets on the market. Olivia is a new brand but it makes good TVs.

5 out of 5 stars Best bang for your buck!!!.......2007-09-18

I can say with out a doubt that you will not find a better TV in this price range, so stop looking! I've owned this TV for about 10 months and have had zero problems. When viewing HD channels through my Comcast HD box the picture looks amazing. Both of my brother in-laws have more expensive LCDs (Panasonic and LG), but the Olevia is the hands down winner.

Although the picture is great and I've had a trouble-free past with this TV there are a few things that I wish were different. It would be nice if there was a remote code for Olevia so I would only have to use my Comcast remote instead of both of them. (There is a new comcast remote that lists Olevia codes, but none of them work on this TV.) A/V hookups on the front or side of the of the TV would be a nice improvement. Since I have the TV mounted on the wall it's difficult to temporarily hook something up, like a video camera. Additional A/V hookups would be another advantage, but can easily be solved by getting an A/V switch which will expand your inputs. I bought one for about $30 from Radio Shack, which provides me with 4 additional inputs. This also solved the problem with the lack of easily accessible A/V inputs on the TV. While the sound quality is okay, it's not that great. I've hooked up external speakers, so it's not really that big of a deal. The thickness of the TV is a bit larger than other brands (again not really a big deal).

All of these small gripes really aren't too important and they don't effect the value of this TV. If I had to make another decision now as to what TV to buy I would choose the Olevia, hands down. The overall quality, sleak design and picture quality (which in my opinion are the most important factors) can not be rivaled at this price point. Buy the Olevia! You won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Great TV with one big problem.......2007-09-16

Great TV. Great Price. Great Picture Quality. BUT....if you have comcast NO codes work so the comcast remote will be compatible with the set. So every time you want to turn the TV off, on, or change the source (for DVD's and stuff) you have to get out the other remote

5 out of 5 stars Excellent HDTV Purchase!!!.......2007-08-24

I purchased this item after hours and hours of research online for the best value. This is one excellent television set!! I have the Wii hooked up via component cable running in 480p and it looks way better than standard television. After some tinkering, I ran the computer to the television (DVI to HDMI cable seems to have the best picture, 1:1 mode on TV, set computer resolution to 1360x768) and the image is fantastic. Computer games are displayed with no ghosting or artifacts or distortion. If you are wondering which HDTV to purchase, this is the one, as long as you have a cable box. This unit does not come with a tuner, so you will need a box in order to receive any channels from cable, antenna, or satellite. The only downside to this unit is the manual, which comes on a CD instead of an actual paper manual. I give this unit 5/5 stars.

Syntax Olevia LT32HVE 32" HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV

Product Description

Olevia by Syntax takes LCD TV performance to an newer viewing level for crystal clear viewing at angles up to 178 degrees. A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel is made up of liquid crystal material, which arranges itself to either let light pass through or not. Each pixel contains the three primary colors?red, green and blue. Traditional Liquid Crystal material allows for direct viewing, but at wide viewing angles the image is distorted. TN liquid crystal molecules when switching ?on' and ?off,' tilt out of the viewable plane (see Fig 1- TN Mode). When the display is viewed at an angle, the brightness, contrast and color distorts. With IPS mode, the liquid crystal molecules undergo a switching mode that keeps the molecules within the viewable plane (see Fig 1 - IPS Mode). The result is that light passing through; whether in ?on' or ?off' position is not distorted or altered when viewed in any angle as opposed to TN mode. This is what allows brightness, contrast and color to remain constant especially at wide viewing angles. Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars My Experience - Mixed Bag.......2007-02-28

I bought this tv about 18 months ago and have been very happy with it.

I have and HTPC hooked up via VGA-in and had no trouble with the setup (losing a few pixels at 1368 x 768). I use an ATI X700 Pro graphics card. I've gotten it to work with dvi as well, but strange red tones show up when I go above 1280x720.

I have a high def cable box plugged into the DVI in - outputing 1080i. It works perfectly except that when you turn the box off without unplugging it, it gives an HDCP error - don't know if that is a Syntax or TimeWarner problem

I have a Nintendo wii hooked up via component cables - at 480p - looks great

So, it is definitely a versatile tv - the picture is great - no dead pixels or color issues at all. The remote is a bit pitiful but it does the job once you get used to its odd logic (the right button on the remote is enter instead of the center button).

I should note that about a month before my warranty expired the power supply for the tv blew and the unit stopped working. Syntax was really great about immediately shipping a replacement and sending return shipping labels to me, but it did make me nervous. What if it had happened a month later?

So, there it is. It's a great tv with a word of caution from my personal experience. Take it as a single anecdote and be aware that it is a new name on the market (though I think the solid customer service is a direct result of this). In the end you get what you pay for. I don't regret this purchase at all.

4 out of 5 stars good TV for the money .......2007-01-24

I saw this TV at Circuit City and was able to compare it to other TVs before I purchased it. The picture is good - it didn't blow me away - but it is good, especially for the price. I thought the sound was fine. You should really get a home theater system to get the full effect of HDTV anyway. Word of advice - purchase it from Circuit City and get the Advantage protection plan. Even if one pixel goes out, they will replace the entire TV, unlike Syntax Olevia who requires at least six pixels to go out before replacing it. Their protection plan is MUCH better than the manufacturer's (they will even come work on it in your home) - AND you can return the TV if you're not satisfied, unlike big screen purchases from Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Worried, but works........2006-12-09

Just thought I'd share a couple thoughts on this TV.

I've had this television for about 4 months. It has worked well to this point, but there are several things that are disappointing.

What is great about this TV is the DVI input. My computer looks pretty decent on it, though it isn't great for web surfing or anything unless you sit right in front of it. Gaming is fantastic if your video card can handle the resolution needed for the TV (1280x768,1024x768,or 1024x720). I couldn't get the 1366x768 to work on my computer.

The analog connections look horrible. Don't expect to use them. This TV is really for HD only.

The speakers make a subtle hissing noise when you have the volume above zero. It's miserable unless you have the volume loud enough to block it out. Overall, the speakers are terrible and should never be used.

In essence, I would recommend this TV as an overkill computer monitor. I wouldn't route any sound through it, nor would I watch anything analog. It really has to be high definition to be acceptable.

I'm a college student who decided to sell my 20" Dell 2001FP and buy this thing. It really was a mistake because I ended up never playing games on it, and it's miserable for typing papers and the like. If you plan on using this strictly as a TV, make sure you have high def cable or high def satellite and a stereo system to use for the sound.

There is only one dead pixel on the screen and I hardly ever notice it, but it is near the middle.

Finally, what worries me most is that many other people have had their set die on them after a year or so. I really wouldn't be surprised if it happened to me. You get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 stars Worst TV in the world is Syntex Olevia.......2006-12-01

I purchased this TV 18 months before and today it went off.
Suddenly picture became very light and nothing is visible on it, still
sound it coming. this is really very bad purchase in my life I would
never recommend any body to buy this TV even on lowest price. Company is
giving one year warranty and this TV is only made for 1 year.
I will request every buyer do not purchase this TV after all its your
wish if you want to west your money.

1 out of 5 stars Have to hit power twice.......2006-09-28

I have owned this TV for over a year and it drives me nuts! I have my cable box to pass through the signal to the TV so some channels are standard definition and some are 720p or 1080i. It takes a few seconds for the TV to switch between these resolutions which is annoying. My major problem with the unit is the fact that every time I turn it on I get no picture. I have to turn it back off again and wait a few seconds then turn it back on. The pictuer looks good in HD and the price was right but I just can't justify that with the incredible frustration I have with the power problem.

Amazon.com Product Description

Time to update your old-technology CRT TV? Zoom into the future with the 32-in ch Olevia LT32HVX flat-panel LCD TV, which is HDTV-ready. It incorporates the latest v ideo processing technology--Syntax's iDEA--as well as the enhanced iDIVA virtual surro und sound processing. More than just a high-quality TV, the set's PC inputs also make it equally suitable for home offices. It offers a black cabinet with speakers integrat ed in each side and a removable table-top stand; it's wall-mountable with an optional kit (VESA-compatible--100 x 200). It features a built-in, 181-channel NTSC tuner and c an receive high-definition (ATSC) broadcasts from an optional HD receiver.

This LCD TV provides a 1280 x 720-pixel native resolution for a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio for optimal letterbox movie watching and compatibility with 1080i/720p/480p/480 i video formats. It also offers an extra-wide 170-degree viewing angle, fast 12ms (mil lisecond) response time, 700 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and 7 50:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to dis play subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The LT32HVS performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for wat ching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 fra mes-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated ; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant informati on to display a frame-accurate picture. A 3D comb filter further enhances resolution b y removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of c olor along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a charact er's striped T-shirt). It provides PIP and split screen functionality between two diff erent video sources. Other convenience features include selectable aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9), channel return, favorite channel, closed captioning, clock/alarm, sleep timer, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 20-watt stereo audio system (two 10-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. The iDIVA virtual surround sound provides you with several easily adjusta ble settings that simulate an array of audio environments. It offers the following con nection options:

Syntax's iDEA Technology (Innovative Digitally Enhanced Architecture) delivers an exceptional solution to digital display complexities commonly associated with color, contrast, sharpness, motion, noise and audio lip-sync. iDEA's suite of built-in and user-selectable video/audio features delivers precise colors, sharp resolutions and audio synchronization through its advanced Digital Sound Processor (DSP).

5 out of 5 stars My husband loves this TV.......2007-12-07

I am not a techie whatsoever and so I can't speak about many aspects of this TV. However, I can say that it delivers a clear picture and is quite attractive on my wall. My husband loves this TV.

1 out of 5 stars Now I owned a $800 piece of junk!.......2006-12-06

I agree that Olevia is pretty good LCD for the price when it works. But I want to warned you about their quality. (A lot of people has quality issue with olevia, read other people's command)

I had a similar LCD TV from Olevia since June 2005. A week ago the screen when black but there still audio from the set so I know it's not the cable. I turned it off then back on. I got a brief blue screen, then the screen when black again.

I called the Tech support, and found out that I'll probably need a new LCD which going to cost me ~$500 because the warranty had ran out.

I spend ~$800 for the set and it worked for a year and a half, I don't think it's a good value, do you?

So before you waste your money on the set, asked yourself if it's a good value if it breaks in a little more than a year!

This is a new brand, so at the time when I bought the set, there's not report of how long the TV will last, knowing what I know now, I would spend a little more and get a different brand. Now I owned a $800 piece of junk!

4 out of 5 stars Awsome LCD for price (No HDMI).......2006-11-22

This LCD TV is very good for what you pay, you wont regret it if you purchase one. I've had mine for over 6months and have not had a single problem. I did not give it a 5 star because of the lack of HDMI connection. It does 1080i/720p/480.

Cons - 1- No HDMI connection
2- Speakers on TV don't go that loud
(should not be a problem with a sourround sound system)
3- Remote control is ok (looks cheap)

Besides those cons, the TV is great and you should not be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELENT, AND THE PRICE IS IRRESISTIBLE...........2006-08-15

FORGET THE RECONIZED BRANDED TVS AND ITS EXPENSIVE PRICE. THIS LCD HAVE A VERY CLEAR IMAGE, EXCELENT NOISE REDUCTION FEATURES, VIVID COLORS AND WELL BALANCED BLACK CONTRAST. THE ONLY BAD IS THE CHEAPER REMOTE CONTROL, BUT FORGET THAT, THE IMPORTANT HERE IS THE PICTURE QUALITY. I RECOMEND THIS TV FOR EVERY ONE.

4 out of 5 stars Good deal.......2006-08-11

Excellent product for the price. The image is very good, the sound is ok and satisfy all my needs.
I recommend it if you want a good LCD but don't want to spend a lot of money on Sony's...

The 1,366 x 768 (WXGA) LT32HV is even upgradeable to full-fledged HDTV status: you can replace its NTSC tuner module with an ATSC/DTV-capable tuner at a future date, improving the TV's already-excellent use of space.

A stunningly attractive black-and-charcoal bezel frames the LT32HVB's high-quality flat-panel screen. Super-IPS (super-in-plane-switching) technology heightens color saturation, broadens viewing angles, sharpens images, boosts response time, and minimizes the visible color shift and distortion from any angle, resulting in exceptional, 178-degree viewing angles (for excellent picture quality from any seat in the room), a vivid 1,200:1 contrast ratio, and an incredible 8 ms response time (a still-impressive 12 ms for the LT20S) for seamless, ghost-free, full-motion images with even the most demanding video games and action films. The TV also boasts an impressive brightness rating of 800 cd/m2.

The LT20S offers 800 x 600 native resolution for EDTV (enhanced-definition viewing) with progressive-scan DVD players, satellite receivers, DTV set-top boxes, and other sources. It's also compatible with analog PC signals up to 1,024 x 768 (at 75 Hz). The set's standard 4:3 aspect ratio matches the dimension of most TV programs and most existing computer monitors. The 20-inch set offers a 500:1 contrast ratio and 500 cd/m2 brightness, alongside 170/130-degree (horizontal/vertical) viewing angles.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios. The LT32HV's thin profile--just 4.6 inches (a mere 3.5 inches for the LT20S)--makes it easy to attach either set to a wall using optional VESA-standard mounting kits (model WM-15D for both sets).

The 32-inch LT32HVB performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.

The LT32HVB's 3D Y/C digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

The set has connections to spare, sporting a pair of HD-capable component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i), analog and digital PC inputs (15-pin D-Sub VGA and DVI-I with HDCP), and 3 each S-video and composite-video inputs. When connected to a PC using the analog input (monitor cable supplied), the TV functions as a high-quality multimedia display with the ability to simultaneously show TV or DVD movies on half the screen while letting you surf the Internet and access e-mail or PC documents on the other half. Dual built-in NTSC TV tuners permit split-screen, multi-image tiling, and picture-in-picture (PIP) viewing.

A pair of speakers driven by 15 watts each (3 watts x 2 in the LT20S) deliver high-quality sound. Want to enhance the sound from your movies and TV programs? Feed the LT32HVB's dedicated subwoofer output to a stand-alone powered subwoofer to enjoy additional punch and an further degree of realism from your movies and music.

Other features of the LT32HVB include a built-in alarm clock, a sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, auto dialogue tone correction, auto volume leveling (minimizing drastic swings in listening level between program and commercial), simulated surround sound, favorite channel, last-channel recall, closed captioning, and a multilingual menu accommodating English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

What's in the Box
LT32HVB: TV, remote control, remote batteries, 1 VGA monitor cable, 1 composite-video/stereo analog audio AV cable, an AC power cord, warranty information, and a user's manual; LT20S: TV, remote control, remote batteries, an AC power cord, and a user's manual with warranty information.

1 out of 5 stars Careful of any special offers from this company.......2005-06-08

I bought a TV from them that had a $300.00 rebate. Six months later I have not received my rebate. They claim I did not meet the terms of the rebate even though I have proof of filing on time. I have filed a complaint with the FTC about these guys. Despicable tactics. The rebate has a section called "Terms and conditions." Beware: on another part of the form they have other terms which are not labeled as such. Luckily for me I complied with all the terms. This is just a tactic to hurt the consumer. I don't know if other vendors are doing the same but I certainly would be careful with these guys.

Regarding, the LCD TV itself. It is okay. Certainly not the highest quality. I see all kinds of artifacts when there is motion (duh it is a TV) especially if the motion is a little fast paced ... as in a sport. Not something I would ever buy again given my experience with the rebate and the quality of the product.

5 out of 5 stars Outrageous deal, excellent TV!.......2005-06-05

Best price performance ratio I've ever seen, not to mention I will also get a free 20" by mail! If you don't call that outrageous, I don't know what is. Picture is solid, very sharp and bright. Now it does blur a bit when I watched football, but did not bother me much. Only the nitpickers will get bothered, and those nitpickers should buy another unit that is priced twice as much (and without a free 20") anyway. Sound is great too! I don't feel I will replace the built-in speakers for some time as they handle sounds pretty well.

By the way, I bought this as a recommendation from my 3 friends. I suggest you buy one today, as the word is spreading like fire and Amazon may run out of stock anytime soon. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Olevia 32 inch LCD.......2005-06-01

Beautiful picture, sound and brightness but unable to watch fast paced sports. Significant blur on HDTV when watching basketball players moving quickly, particular with lateral movement, enough to give you a headache. Also noted blur on bottom of moving trailer. I returned the unit and bought the 32 inch Sharp which was significantly better despite supposedly slower response time. Uncertain whether this was a flaw in this particular unit but unwilling to return and try another. Also could not connect to HDMI(cable message stated could not utilize since unit did not have HDCP). Not a problem with Sharp unit (which was significantly more expensive)

5 out of 5 stars No problems other than with remote codes.......2007-12-24

I ordered this Olevia six weeks ago. It arrived in excellent shape through Amazon and in an amazingly short period. It's a handsome set and fits right in with our den.
Setup wasn't a problem except for the remote--it refuses to accept any other component codes, although I've used the online manual. (By the way, if you have any other components plugged into it such as a DVD player, just hit the 'Source' button until you get a picture. I ended up asking a friend about it because I couldn't figure it out myself. Also, you need to WAIT a couple of seconds for the picture to show up.)
Other than that, my wife and I are very happy with it. It's got a sharp, clear picture and good sound. When we watch an HD broadcast, it feels like you're sitting RIGHT THERE. NFL football is something else--free seats at the game!
All in all, a very worthwhile purchase. We got it during a special 2-day promotion on Amazon, and it ended up being $500 including shipping and tax. If you have the patience, wait it out for another few weeks and the price will probably fall again into that range.

5 out of 5 stars Olevia 532H 32" LCD HD TV.......2007-12-23

After researching 32" hd lcd tv's for quite awhile, this product was the one we settled upon. There were a few reservations we had because of other reviews. First of all, the price couldn't be beat ! After receiving and using the Olevia 532H, we are more than satisfied. Bright, beautiful picture....sound qualiy is excellent, it was NOT hard to set up (others had complained about the manual being on CD only). We would DEFINITELY buy another Olevia product. Shipping time from Target through Amazon.com was minimal. Overall a great purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Recieved was diffrent than I ordered (Its Better).......2007-12-04

I ordered this TV Olivia 532H-b12 on Nov 30th and received it today.
This was bought for a den. Well Imagine my surprise after unpacking,
This is the new 532H-B13.

It has two hdmi inputs rather than one, two of everything actually..

Picture is great Hd is great No Problems with set up, remote is good. lit, Functional.

A great deal.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good TV!!.......2007-12-03

I bought this TV from Amazon/Target (cheaper through Amazon due to lower shipping cost) and setup was a breeze. I have comcast cable basic so I use this TV without a cable box. I get more channels due to the digital tuner than with an analog set. I really think this is an AWESOME set! More plug ins than you can use and the digital picture is terrific. I used this 32" set to replace a tube type 27". That seem to work out pretty nicely but if your replacing a larger set than 27" best to go with a 37" LCD TV. The audio was difficult to get right. I ended up using the "Soft" mode with nearly all the treble and bass turned up. Other than that this is truly one heck of a great set for the money.

4 out of 5 stars This TV is a great upgrage from a 26" tube.......2007-11-29

I read many reviews about this TV online. The consensus seems to be that it's a wonderful TV for the money, IF your not looking for high-end quality and IF you don't get a set that is broken or damaged from the factory. Also, people seem to have problems with its sound quality, initial setup and slow input changes.

My unit shipped from Amazon/Target and arrived rather quickly. It arrived in perfect condition. The initial setup was a breeze, because it did not come setup for demonstration purposes as some reviews had said. The initial setup menu asked me if I wanted to set it up for demo or in-home use, and I simply selected in-home and then stepped through a few more options.

The picture is good. As most reviewers have said: you're getting what you pay for. It's not a superb quality picture. I personally think the sound is great. I've never had the privilege of using a sound system, always relying on the TV speakers; and this TV has fine sound. I keep the volume at about 1/8 the total level, and it is plenty loud. Perhaps if I had a big room or something I'd have to turn it up too high; and maybe it would buzz or something. And I'm sure these speakers wouldn't fill a big room with sound either. But that's just my guess.

CONS: It does take quite a few seconds to switch between inputs, but that's not a big deal. Also, for me it takes even longer (about 8-10 seconds) to switch between an SD channel and an HD channel. This could be my cable box (Comcast), but I've talked with coworkers who have Comcast and they don't report the same thing.

My cable box's universal remote doesn't work with this TV, though it does have Olevia codes. I've read that universal remotes have been hit-and-miss with this brand of TV, but that you can find some that will work.

I am also using this TV as my computer monitor. This is my biggest disappointment. I have a 19" LDC computer monitor at work and I have quite a bit of work space on the screen. I thought for sure I'd have a TON of room to work on this TV, and this was a poor assumption on my part. The TV's max resolution is 1360x768, which is kind of wide, but not super wide, and is not very tall at all. My 19" monitor at work has much more vertical work room. I think if I'd paid attention to the specs a bit more closely I would've known what to expect in that department and it wouldn't have been such a shock.

Over all, I'm happy. This TV was really inexpensive for what it offers. If you're coming from a non-HD capable tube-TV, especially if it's a smaller size than this one, it's a good upgrade. But I'll definitely be looking to upgrade even from this TV in probably 3-4 years. I really don't need anything bigger, but I'll be looking for better quality one day (when I can afford it).

4 out of 5 stars Great HDTV for the price!.......2007-12-24

I purchased this tv the other day and really like it alot. The picture is nice and the sound is good too. If you subscribe to an HDTV package with your cable or satellite service you'll be amazed at how clear and crisp the picture is. The only negative thing is the initial setup can be alittle tricky for newcomers to figure out. I already have 2 Olevia's so it wasn't hard for me. Because Olevia is kinda a new brand, you'll probably have to use 2 remote controls. I use my Olevia to turn it on and off and the volume button. I use the Direct TV remote for everything else. It's not really a big deal though. If you want a good HDTV, and don't want to spend the big bucks for the name brands that you've heard of, I definitely would get an Olevia. I've now got 3 of them and love them!

3 out of 5 stars Great picture while it lasted.......2007-11-04

I purchased this TV for use primarily for use with a PS3 and was mostly pleased. Nice picture, intuitive displays, effective remote, nice input availability, etc.

Unfortunately, after a few months it began to smoke and let out a strong smell of burning plastic. Fortunately, it was still within the allowed return period. I am not sure whether or not Olevia brand televisions frequently require repair so early, but personally would not risk buying another Olevia TV without an extended warranty.

4 out of 5 stars Great TV for the money.......2007-09-01

This is my first HDTV, i bought it to replace my 27" CRT tv. I've owned the TV for a week now. The TV is almost perfect, but I have a couple of issues with it. A lot of people have been complaining about the speakers, I think they are alright, not the best but they do the job. Setting up was a little hard to do, it honestly took me like 3 hours to get it set up and plugged in correctly. The manual is only on a CDROM that is included with the TV, there is no paper manual. Also, I wish the TV had a few more inputs, it really just has the bare minimum. Changing through the different inputs is a little annoying because you cant move up and down at will, you have to go through all the inputs to get to the one you want.

What took me so long to set up was testing out the different input settings to see what gave me the best image. This is my final setting: Time Warner Cable through HDMI; Xbox 360 through component; Gamecube through composite; DVD player through S-video. You really have to mess around with all settings for all your components AND the tv to get the best picture possible. You cant just plug it in and expect to get the best picture right away. The HD channels look amazing, the regular channels look alright. 360 looks out of this world, DVD player looks pretty good, Gamecube is alright, looked a lot better on my old 27" TV.

I give the TV a 4 out of 5 because it was a little hard to set up and the speakers aren't the best, and the remote is pretty flimsy. Also, Time Warner's remote wont recognize the codes for the TV, so I have to use both remotes. Still, pretty good TV overall.

4 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, entry level LCD with good picture quality.......2007-08-19

If you're considering this tv, you're probably like me; you've looked for months, obsessed about price, performance, and in the end, unwilling to spend $1000 for a a better known brand. To complicate matters, I don't even have high def cable, so the real gains in upgrading from my 27 inch Sony CRT were always in question.

I won't bore you with too many details, but I found that the picture quality was on par with many of the higher priced alternatives. In fact, I saw no difference between a couple of higher end products and this one.

That's the good news. The downside is that the sound is inferior. It sounds weak, "tinny" and is in sharp contrast to the picture. I have tried a work around, hooking up my 2.1 speaker (sub woofer + 2 speakers) and it does sound better, though I'm still not happy with it.

All in all, a decent tv, especially picture, though the sound will always irritate me. The real rating should be between 3 and 4.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful TV for the money.......2007-12-14

I bought this Tv for my college dorm and I couldn't be happier. I got mine for around $450. The picture on this tv is excellent. The clear QAM tuner means you can get unencrypted HD channels which is important for me because I can't have a cable box at college and yet i still get all the big football games and network shows in HD. I often use this as a secondary monitor for my laptop when I am gaming. Games look noticeably better on the 1365x768 res of the TV than they do on the higher 1680x1050 res of my tihnkpad t61. The colors are much richer and pixels are more defined. This tv also has plenty of inputs however in the future you may need a hdmi switcher because it only has 1 input.

Some of my friends have the equivalent TV's from the budget companies like vizio and westinghouse and often paid more than I did and my picture is unanimously voted better. Highly Recommended!! The best tv you can get for the money.

4 out of 5 stars A great tv for a hi def beginner.......2007-08-09

My first lcd tv, this has been a great buy. It was highly recommended in Consumer Reports for it's quality and (lack of) price. I do believe it has a QAM tuner because as soon as I connected my non-digital cable, I was picking up hd local channels in 1080i.

Speaking of which, you can really notice the difference in HD and SD when watching the local news. It seems like the news anchors and title bars (at bottom of screen) are broadcasted in HD, but some of the "man on the street" broadcast signals are SD. When they switch over there is a definite difference.

The only reason I rate this 4 stars is due to a single HDMI input. It'd be nice to have 2 so that when I get a digital set-top box, I could switch between the it and dvd more easily. Granted, I bought a HTIB (Onkyo) that has two HDMI in and one out, but most people can't be expected to do the same.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Way to Get Into High Definition Viewing.......2007-08-01

I picked this TV up in April 2007 and viewed it in 480p ("enhanced definition") by upconverting my DirecTV signal through my Panasonic DMR ES-10 DVD recorder. Viewed straight on, the picture was pleasing and sharp, and the colors vivid. From an angle, the picture became fuzzy but I was impressed enough to keep the TV and make the leap into the world of flat screen TV.

Two days ago, I had DirecTV's high def DVR installed and connected it to the TV with spectacular results. The colors and clarity on Miami CSI blew me away, and when watching baseball you can see every drop of sweat, every pore, and even the faces in the crowd are distinct. With the new high def receiver/DVR (which receives local digital and standard definition broadcasts as well), all signals look great, even standard def, from ALL viewing angles. That's key, because the quantity of high def programming is still somewhat limited to selected sports, local news and many prime time shows and movies. In fact, the standard def and digital broadcasts look far better than on my brother's high def SONY flat screen and the high def looks just as good.

For an apartment, bedroom or office, this TV simply can't be beat at this price. My only reservations are the average sound (which can be output to a powered 2.1/5.1 system if you need to add bass) and limited inputs (1 HDMI, 1 component, 1 component/VGA). I have my laptop hooked into the VGA input, and its great to see my digital photos leap to life on the 32" screen. I also recommend that you take the time to learn how to manipulate the aspect ratios on the TV as well as the use of formatting/native/non-native resolution settings that are part of your cable or satellite receiver. Making slight adjustments will ensure the best possible picture, but if you're not into such tinkering the "out of the box" picture is excellent in its own right. The on-screen menus do take some getting used to, but if you are basically comfortable with technology and video equipment, you'll pick it up fast enough. Overall, an amazing value and a great entry point TV for any high-res TV fan. At this price, it makes a lot of sense to go for it!

5 out of 5 stars Olevia 232V - 32" LCD TV - AWESOME!!!.......2007-05-20

First I would like to say that I totally back up the first reviewer as far as the make and model of this TV is concerned. It is not the crappy version that you see here on Amazon. I also would not have purchased this one for the price. The version that they have looks like an oversized regular model TV. Nothing I would spend more than $200.00 for. The 232V model I have has two speakers - one on each side. Now let's get to my personal review.

I purchased this TV about two or so weeks ago and I'm extremely pleased. Even though this unit does not carry the so-called brand name, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS SILENT KILLER! The colors & picture are absolutely stunning. My DVD player comes through with great clarity. WOW! No problems with the volume. I use this with the minimum volume settings and it still appears loud (without the home theater system on). I wanted to test the volume by increasing it, only to hurt my eardrums halfway through. The speakers work great. I also have a SONY Theater System attached to this baby so you know I'm riding high in the clouds. My son is jealous and now he wants this TV. I paid about $550.00 at Circuit City when they were running a sale. You can't go wrong. This TV could hang up there with the other 32" costing hundreds more.

I bet if you put this TV side by side with the other models costing more, you would probably see no difference. I read the reviews on Circuit City's website before I made my final decision and I couldn't be more pleased.

This TV has plenty of hookups in the back of the unit for various devices. There's no shortage here. At the moment, I have two DVD players attached (DVD & Recorder), theater system, and I'm in the process of getting my Direct TV attached next.

I have this unit attached to a swivel wall mount. I was going to write a review about the wall mount, but I do not see it listed on Amazon. The wall mount that they have only has four screws that you would use to attach the unit to the TV mount, mine has six. Since I was going to attach a tv that weighs about 40 pounds, why not get a device what can hold it more firmly. Maybe it's my paronoia, but who wants to come home one day to find their $500.00 unit on the floor in pieces? Be aware, not all wall mounts work with all flat panels. They say universal, but some people have been caught out there big time!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars This is not the Syntax Olevia 232V LCD HDTV.......2007-03-28

First, I must say that I own the Syntax Olevia 232v and the unit that will be shipped from DiscountJungle IS NOT a 232v. The 232v is easily identified by the two vertical speakers on either side of the screen hence the 232"v" model number. I'm not sure what model this is in the picture but I'd be highly upset if I paid for a 232v and received this instead.

With that said, if you are on the fence about purchasing the Olevia 232v you can carefully and calmly step down and run and grab it as you will not be disappointed in any way.

When I first saw the specs and read the reviews I was like yeah right but finally decided to give it a try after speaking with the Circuit City store manager who said I could simply return it if I didn't like.

The colors are very true and bright for an LCD. The blacks and whites are vivid and rival anything by Sony within $1000. The screen is very bright which is manaually adjustable or adjustable via 3 different presets (dark, medium, bright) depending on the lighting in the room.

Even though Olevias american website doesn't mention it this unit DOES have Clear QAM and the network HD stations are amazing once you get your antenna connected and adjusted. By the way, Olevia's asian website does properly list clear QAM in the 232v specifications. I got about 10 HD channels immediately and there looks like there are about 5 or so that my antenna can't reach.

The sound is decent but I bought a Denon HTIB to handle the audio. Altogether with my PS3, Denon HTIB w/DVD player, and PS3 this is a very nice setup. BTW, Resistance "Fall of Man" in 1080i is simply stunning!

5 out of 5 stars Best BANG for your BUCK HDTV out there today!!!.......2007-12-15

I bought this TV one year ago, and it has been so great. The HD picture is amazing for the price. I have never had one problem with it. Turned it on out of the box and enjoyed every minute of HD after that. You cant find a better looking HD picture ANYWHERE for that price.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy-however worrisome.......2007-05-15

I got my 32 inch olevia around halloween 2006 and it has worked perfectly since then, however, I went to turn it on one day and it didnt turn on. I found that it was just turning off the light and not turning on the TV. I fixed the problem myself by just unplugging the TV and plugging it back in, then it worked just as new. Havent had trouble since then(3 months ago) and XBOX 360 High Def is AWESOME!!!!!!! P.S I am actually Richard Rose under a friend's account.

5 out of 5 stars Olevia 32.......2007-05-14

Good TV for the price. Only objection is the blue light on front. Insead of being lit when TV is on it is lit when off. Not so good for sleeping. Very bright.

4 out of 5 stars Great HDTV for 1st Exp........2007-04-24

I got this TV yesterday, and let me say, it is perfect, i got it from circuit city for $550. Was looking at the 27'' Olevia version, but this caught my eye. The picture quality isnt great without an HD subscription, but it is still good. It has everything you need unless youre into more technical TVs.

Menu is fantastic (short and sweet). So far my XBox360 looks like bliss hooked up to it. All i need is a HDMI cable (cablesforless.com) and im set!

One tiny winy little thing is that when it is off the blue LED light lights up the bedroom so i turn it off from the back, but its perfect. I havent had any problems with it like the other reviews here. It comes with a 1yr warranty already so i didnt get a 3yr deal. I say if you've done a lot of research and are on the edge, buy it, if you want excellent picture quality, make sure you have a HD subcription for HD channels!

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY!!!!!.......2007-04-23

It worked for less than three hours then the screen froze. I powered it off then back on it worked for another 15 minutes then the screen froze again. Now when powered on it freezes on one of two screens an all blue screen or the "Olevia" logo screen. This is just in less than three hurs of initial use.
