How can't you write a good review about a $9.99 portable AM/FM radio? I wanted a small radio that I could hang from my bedpost to listen to music at night without having to get up and turn a radio off across the room.
When I was very young, I used to have this stuffed raccoon that had an AM radio in it's stomach. I'd lie in my bed at night playing with that radio, quietly listening and giggling to Dr Demento.
In this digital age, sometimes I think there's something wrong with me for liking the tinny mono sound of AM radio. My only disappointment is that I didn't realize that there's not so much music on AM radio anymore. It's all talk radio & sports. All is good, and now I can play with this radio late at night, listening quietly as I did in the past.
At $9.99, it's a bargain.
Good radio for little money........2007-12-11
This radio is very compact and convenient to use and transport. The reception can vary depending on location and position, but sounds good when a strong signal is obtained. I would have liked the AM to be stronger, but the FM seems good. It may be better in different areas. I live by an airport and have always wondered if I am receiving interference. The AA batteries seem to last a good amount of time, although I haven't used a set yet. All in all a good radio for little money, and everyone should have portable radio, at least for emergencies.

I've owned many radios in my time and this is one of the nicest I've owned since I was a kid. It has a clear sound, excellent reception even here in the city, and for the price, it can't be beat. I recommend having this wonderful little radio as part of your emergency kit, and it would make a very nice stocking stuffer.

This is a very good little radio, that comes with a belt clip. Good reception with attached lead antenna only, digital tuning is a plus; speaker is excellent for a pocket radio. Good quality sound. - - Unlike the pill radio ( see my other review) which is a piece of junk.
Replacement for Automobile radio.......2007-12-15
The rather expensive radio in my rather old car recently died so I needed a replacement radio. Seeking a simple appproach (no installation hassle) I decided to try a Sangean DT-210V. I attached it to my sunvisor with mini-bungee cords and run it in speaker mode only -- the antenna wire is taped to the top of the windshield.
Performance is fairly good -- I typically listen to several weak FM stations in my area and they generally come in loud and clear. Occasionally at night I'll hear some very weak interference that sounds like aircraft radio signals but this happens fairly rarely.
All in all I'm satisfied with the radio and would recommend it to others. Next, I'm going to try it on my motorcycle

Has excellent reception and large LCD readout. Only thing is the TV band only goes up to channel 13 so I can't get the football games on higher band channels they are on. Other than that excellent product and delivery was quick. Thanks Amazon!

Bought the 210V looking specifically for a pocket radio with good AM reception as I am an AM DXer (long distance reception) and I'd heard that this was pretty sensitive on AM. It is impressive - 9/10 khz selectable tuning so trans-oceanic DX is a possibility from the coasts. Took it with me on a trip to the Louisville area, and was amazed. Good reception from as far away as Denver(KOA), NYC (WABC, WCBS, etc), Minneapolis (WCCO) using the internal ferrite bar. Set next to a loop such as a Terk or Select-a-tenna, reception is even better. From here in Idaho, WCCO, WBAP, and other big 50 kilowatters are regulars using only the internal ferrite bar.
I don't spend much time on FM, other than listening to out local NPR station, but it sounds good, very good in fact. The bass boost feature really brings out the FM. Nice.
This radio definitely exceeded my expectations regarding its AM capabilities. Highly recommended.

This radio has good reception while walking down the street. I live in a city with radio stations close by and they do not interfere with reception. I have used it in the lobby of my apartment building and it still has good reception. Even-thou the ear phones do not look like much they perform well. The manufacture sends some foam pieces with the radio, these go over the ear phones.

I bought this because I did not want to ride my road bike in silence in the night during the winter months. It's nice to have the company of talk radio. It fits perfectly into the front pocket of my Topeak Handy Phone Pack Plus ($20 on Amazon) which mounts to my stem. I like the fact that the channel buttons are near the top, as well as the volume. It makes it easy to operate during a ride. I don't like using ear buds, so the speaker, though small, is good enough and audible during rides. The reception is very good. During commercials, I hit the channel button to one of my top 20 favorite channels. I do have to plug in the antenna on top, and wrap it around my phone pack. Butfor me, this unit is about perfect. I did not give it 5 stars because for a portable radio, I think it is a bit pricey.

This little radio has exceeded my expectations. The controls are very intuitive and laid out logically. The switches, materials, fit and finish are of high quality. The display is easy to read. I live in a big city but my favorite FM station has a wimpy transmitter and a strong adjacent station. This radio does a nice job of rejecting the adjacent signal. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

I wanted a small portable radio to keep me entertained without weighing me down. I was surprised that this is not something you can buy locally anymore -- all the radios I found in retail stores were headphone only or had CD players which made them anything but small. One store had a Sony on a hang card that was so old, it only tuned to 1600 KHz -- the AM band was extended to 1700 KHz at least 10 years ago.
I found this little radio on Amazon, read the reviews, and figured for $10 it was worth taking a chance.
This radio is a solid performer on FM, it has good sensitivity, and even works well next to my computer -- many FM radios are useless in that situation.
The speaker delivers a surprisingly full sound for its size. It is powered by 2-AA cells with a claimed battery life of 95 hours on FM and 125 hours on AM.
The radio is a bit bigger than it appears in the photos but still fits comfortably in a pocket. The wrist strap is a nice feature.
Monophonic radios often have a headphone jack that will drive both ears of a stereo headset (in mono, of course). The connector on this radio is pure monophonic, that is if you plug in your stereo headset, the sound will come out of just the left channel.
The telescoping antenna does not completely retract into the radio case. Instead it retracts to about 4 inches, then it pivots at the attachment point until it is flush with the length of the set.
AM sensitivity is poor and the FM dial calibration is quite a bit off. This is probably the result of an internal mis-adjustment. I'll open it up this weekend and tweak the AM alignment (don't try it unless you know what you're doing!)

Great Little Radio.......2007-09-21
Was looking for something I could sneak onto the golfcourse to check on my baseball games in the middle of the fairway/etc. This is great for taking with you out in the yard where your cord won't reach and so you don't have to turn up your other radio/stereo so loud. Listening to Click & ClackCarGuys-on a Sunday morning while gardening in the back40 is great! The sound of a baseball or football game on a cool Fall day is like heaven. Tunes in stations great, sound is better than you'd expect! Hard to find a better deal. My other outside radio is a Tivoli which is great for richer sound-but not so portable. Dig it!
Wish it worked right.......2007-09-19
It worked well for a month then the volume/on/off dial went bad. I started to bang it against a steel bar to get it to turn on. I give it praise to hold up well against the banging it has received.
Been about 4 months since I got it and it still works but it is getting worse with the volume control and static.
Too bad. It could of been a great radio.
I ordered the Sony - hope it is better.

The radio recieves good reception when indoors. The battery life for this product was about average considering it only took 2 AA batteries to run.. The volume at high levels becomes distorted, but you have to keep in mind it only has one speaker, and is not meant to simulate a rock concert.. Overall it's a solid radio..

Well, I didn't pay very much for this, and I didn't get very much. The uber-cheap headphones stopped working after a week or two. The reception is ok at best, even when outside. The radio can't seem to handle to cold weather very well and shuts off after about 15 minutes in the cold. Would recommend you spend more money and get something with more quality.

This product is small enough to fit in my shirt pocket and powerful enough to hear over the crowds' yells. This also goes for other plces I have used this radio. Great Cheap Radio.......2007-09-16
This is obviously not going to give you great fidelity or longevity. I use it to run (in St. Louis) and have found excellent reception. The key to me is its small size. I love this radio and have bought 3. Sure, they've broken after about a year of use, probably due to salt in the electronics, but I keep going back because I'm not going to pay $50 for something I'll probably break in a similar fashion.

This is OK. Reception is fine. I had to get volume-in-line earbuds because #1 the earbuds that come with the unit are really not very good and #2 the volume is adjusted via click button, so it's either blaring or not loud enough. Not bad for the price when you consider the features.

For an inexpensive item, it does what it is supposed to do. I particularly ordered it because of the neck strap and it works. However I had to substitute a different pair of ear phones as I couldn't get the included ones in my ear, too big.

Let's be honest, the speaker in this thing sounds terrible. It's so shrill and scratchy that AM stations sound hissy and off-frequency, and FM sounds like a toy. Maybe it sounds better through headphones but if you're going to listen to it that way then you might as well get a DT-110 which is a great headphone-only radio.
On top of the bad sound, the plastic case on this one looks really cheap.
On the positive side, it has a sensitive tuner and good features. I especially liked the alarm clock feature. If only Sangean could have made this one sound as good as their SG-622 it would have been a keeper but I can't stand to listen to it so it's going back.
The Best Portable Radio Ever.......2007-09-02
I bought one of these little radios after having several others, including the Grundig. In short, this thing is terrific. It has presets like a car stereo, locks onto signals well, is easy to use, has its own little ear buds and uses batteries sparingly. In fact, I use rechargeable batteries and even those last a good, long time.
This is the happiest I've been with a radio ever. The features, interface and performance are all terrific. Now I do listen to talk radio predominantly, so that's what my performance testing is based on.
one solid hunk o' cheese.......2007-06-26
My radio needs are mostly limited to travel, where I'm away from podcasts, Sirius, TV, and regular radio, and I like to put on the news and maybe fall asleep to whatever. Occasionally I like to listen to a ball game or something. Maybe take it to the beach or camping. So casual needs mostly, but enough to want something reliable with appropriate features. Portability is necessary, but I don't need to use it as a full-time walkman.
Seeing as the iPod has no radio, and even others don't have AM, I've bought a couple of portable radios over the years trying to find something that fit my needs. Some little COBY pos, a couple of small, but not too powerful, SONY models, and even an analog little thingy. Anyway, after the last one I "saved up a little" and bought this one. I was on the verge of getting one of the smaller SANGEAN radios, but this one seemed to have all the right features, and I was willing to live with the bigger size.
PROS
1. digital tuner, powerful AM/FM reception. TV reception, too
2. 10 presets per channel/30 total
3. built-in FM antenna (the smaller Sangean require you to plug-in a wire or the headphones)
4. "seek" feature for scanning frequencies
5. 90-minute auto shut-ff (optional), clock, alarm.
6. Solid build, pretty good sound from the speaker. Certainly good enough for a game or beach tunes. Stands on it's own. Battery cover slides and pivots, for a tight closed position and remains attached so it won't get lost.
7. Normal 1/8 inch Headphone-jack. Could also be used for output to separate speakers. When going thru headphones FM can be switched between stereo and mono for better sound/reception.
8. Simple interface, easy to operate, even in the dark.
MEHS
1. nice leatherette case. will probably lose it, radio doesn't need it really.
2. included, attached, retractable headphones. I guess this is better than HAVING to bring your own, but they might stop working someday, or the spring mechanism might get jammed... not that there's been any indication of this as of yet. Really, they don't sound bad and will be good in a pinch, On the other hand, they probably add (a little extra) bulk and as far as ear-buds go, aren't that confortable.
3. back light - the "light" button turns on a green bulb on the far left that barely lights the whole display. better than nuthin' tho
4. No AC adapter. Not sure I need it, would be nice, probably lose it. The batteries last a loooong time and AA's are cheaper and better than AAA's.
CONS
1. size. A little bigger than a Zune, reminds me of my original plam-pilot. Very portable - definitely fits in your hand, and you could use it walking around or jogging in a pinch, but it might be little awkward at the gym. An acceptable price to pay for a good speaker, AA batteries and whatever else makes this go.
2. price. Kinda steep, but I don't think I'll be buying another radio for a while.

I LOVE the attached headphones. They are actually super-convenient, and let me leave my good headphones attached to my iPod. The quick-rewind button is pretty cool.

Excellent performance for the price. Good sound and excellent reception on AM and FM. Two AA batteries seem to last forever. Excellent travel radio; easy to use and easy to pack. I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.

Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.

Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.

The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Near perfect portable radio.......2007-12-10
I own two other Sangean portables and one Sony Sports radio. This one is the best. It's perfect for your shirt or coat top pocket. Preset tuned stations are buttons on the top of the radio making them easy to get to. The size and display is perfect for pocket size. Sound quality, AM/FM, have not been compromised from previous larger models (which is somewhat remarkable for AM reception since AM reception requires as large as possible built in "bar" antenna). A single AAA battery lasts forever. I don't use the bass boost, too strong for my tastes or my favorite earplugs. Standard earplugs are just "OK".

I live in Madison, WI and can pick up a few Chicago AM stations with this unit. So I'm pretty happy with the reception. However, the built-in antenna is sensitive to how the unit faces. In other words, for long range stations, it works best if you keep the unit facing the direction of the broadcast. That's not ideal if you are using it for running. Also, the unit lacks a belt clip, which again would be nice for running.

Good - Small size, light weight, sound quality and battery life.
Average - tuner sensitivity and selection leave much to be desired.
Overall I like this radio, but I don't know that the increased price vs a comparable Sony are justified.

I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.

My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.
