Good sounding speakers will handle 22 watts RMS and 50 watt peaks easily. These have a very decent "punch" for full range speakers.
Pair these with "blue series" 3way or 4way front speakers with a brand name AM/FM CD receiver and you will have a good sounding system for the budget minded.

i installed these into the lift gate of my cherokee and wired them to an amplifier, over all the sound quality isnt bad but would probably work better wired directly to the head unit since less power is put through the speakers. overall not too bad though

Panasonic achieves this by positioning the surround's rolled edge inside and below the outer periphery of the cone. The extended cone design widens the effective diaphragm area by 18 percent, resulting in better low-range efficiency, while also blocking the spurious edge radiation that typically causes distortion.
Internally, the speaker is equipped with a 1.38-inch titanium dome tweeter, dual 0.62-inch supertweeters, and a 6-by-9-inch polypropylene injection cone woofer. The driver combination addresses the entire frequency range with vivid clarity, so you needn't suffer through flat mids or weak highs that strain to be heard over the engine. Plus, the polypropylene cone material offers a sophisticated appearance matched only by its refined performance.
The speaker's hybrid diaphragm, meanwhile, is made of polymer and aramid--the same material used in bulletproof vests. In addition, the diaphragm is rugged enough to resist the harsh rattling and jostling associated with most cars.
A speaker's damper needs to be strong and resilient to tease out the wide dynamic range of digital sources, and the CJ-DA6943 excels in this area as well. The damper is made of polyamide fiber, which guarantees lively and accurate results, while its high-performance suspension maintains tight control during rapid transient changes. The damper also faithfully tracks the rising edge of difficult-to-handle waveforms.
Other features include 320 watts of peak input power and a frequency response of 25 Hz to 50 kHz. As with all Panasonic vehicle speakers, the CJ-DA6943 is backed by a one-year warranty.
