This boom box cannot have batteries in it when it is plugged-in to an electrical unit. It says this explicitly in the user guide that comes with it. So that means, you have to take the batteries out if you want to plug it into the wall. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. It also didn't come with an adaptor for the new smaller Nano. It just comes with an adaptor for the old Nano - but there's no way to know this when you try and put your new Nano in, it just doesn't fit and you don't know why. The unit is very heavy after you put in the 8 C size batteries. I'm returning it and getting a Logitec unit instead. Bummer that Amazon is making me pay for the shipping to return it because they say the reason for return is my fault. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known what I know now.

This is a solid, compact ipod "boombox"(15" w, 7" high, 4" deep)for desk top, shelf, or picnics. Runs on batteries or AC. Comes with built in dock, and easy to use adapters to accommodate any model ipod. Charges ipod when using AC. Has a wireless remote. Most importantly, the sound is terrific! We listened to about 10 similar devices in the $130 to $200 range. We tried opera, country, heavy metal, reggae, jazz tunes on each, to check out how they handle different sounds. This is the one we bought. We're completely satisfied.

My husband bought this for me for my birthday as a surprise and he couldn't have bought anything more perfect. I just wanted something simple that I could take to the kitchen, garage, garden, etc. to listen to my music. All the others I saw had an alarm clock or radio, which is fine, but not what I was looking for.
You know how it is with your iPod. After buying it, you then have 437 accessories to go with it and I didn't want to add any more complications. I wanted something that played my music well, pure and simple. And that is what the iThunder does. It really has like only 3 switches - on, off, volume. There's a remote that fits in the back of the iThunder that actually has more features than the $50 iPod remote. Plus it charges your iPod. It comes with adjusters so your iPod slips right in. It's perfect if what you want is to carry your music to other rooms so you can hear your tunes and your kids at the same time.
And it's pink! I know, it sounds girly and shallow, but I love the color - everything. It's the best accessory I've gotten for my iPod and this is coming from someone who bought 4 different cases because I'm so picky!

My daughter chose this based on the color, but after readings some reviews and checking it out at a local store, it looked good enough to try. It sounds great with good bass at low volume levels and the remote is intuitive and works well. Nice pop-up handle to carry it around, and your expensive and fragile iPod slips into a well protected socket (not sticking up like many models).
You can use batteries and take it along, or AC of course. It has some weight, like a comparable sized boom box, because it takes some decent sized speakers and magnets with an adequate power supply to give good bass at a reasoable price.
No probelms so far, after two weeks of use.

Great speakers by a great company.......2007-03-13
I've owned a pair of TP112's for nearly two years now and can't complain. The sound quality is excellent and hooking up and breaking down the system is very simple. I use these for home listening along with a pair of their bigger brother, TP212, and I'm still waiting for my roof to blow off. Even without matching the RMS these speakers kick out major sound. I'm soon going to purchase some amps and individually power each of these speakers to reach their full potential. I do agree, though, with the other review that the bass can be a bit much and the tweeter can give a little crack here and there, but it's not enough to really be a problem.

I felt compelled to review the MTX TP112 because it is
such a good product for the price. I'm pushing my pair
with a NAD 2200 amp bridged to produce 400 watts RMS and
1200 watts peak with 6 dB headroom. My pair of TP112 wired in series for 16 Ohm handles the power well. Of course, I can't turn the volume knob more than between 1/3 and 1/2 or the tweeters start to complain. Below that the sound is clean and bass is excellent, although a little boomy and falls off quick below 40 Hz. These are no Cerwin Vegas but they are good enough for DJ work. They need quality power to sound right. Build quality is excellent. Knocking on the cabinet doesn't produce any rattles. I opened mine up to take a look at the crossover and was surprised to find monster inductors, capacitors and resistors to handle power. Good job, MTX! I've played a few parties with these and besides needing more bass than the two combined twelves can dish out, I've had no problems. I've abused these things for the three months that I've had them and they haven't fallen apart. I plan on getting another pair to hook up to the NAD. A much better 8 Ohm load should really get the party started.

I was looking for a small portable sound system for my iPod to take on business trips. The MTX looks nice, glossy black like my iPod, and it holds the iPod securely. The sound is acceptable but a bit boomy and shouty. The bass isn't very deep but what do you expect from a box so small? Right now it actually sounds best tilted back, with the front in the air. The bass output is reduced but it isn't as flabby, and the overall balance is better. I'm hearing some pretty good midrange detail so I hope the speaker cones will break in and sound even better over time. I'd like to apply some real EQ to improve the sound -- unfortunately all you can do is use the iPod's unhelpful pre-selections. I was thinking of jerryrigging a portable system for the absolute best sound, but it would have been a mess in my suitcase and looked to the TSA like a bomb. The MTX delivers decent sound in a neat, attractive package.

I bought this boom box thinking that it will sound almost like the hi-fi, just because the brand (mtx) and how god are their car speakers and subwoofers. But I'm a little disappointed, it sounds god, but when you put in high volume the speakers sounds with distortion. The bass is to strong, you must equalize your ipod to bass reducer or treble booster.
Conclusion: don't buy it if you want excellent sound quality, if you want that buy a hi-hi (I already did it) if you don't care about it and don't want to spend that kind of money I think is the best choice.

I am very pleased with this product. It delivers good sound for the price. I did not listen and compare to the Bose or Apple speaker systems as those were entirely out of my price range. The sound quality is very good at a high volume although at the highest volume the bass will distort a bit. It has to be very very loud to distort. The simple design, back protection for the ipod, and retractable handle make it a secure portable unit.

MTX 10 Inch Subwoofer
This product is a 10-inch MTX dual coil subwoofer, which has a 200-watt RMS. On the new style MTX road thunder subwoofers there is a black carbon fiber-look with a bright red color on the subwoofers cone. It has a dual coil instead of a single coil, which makes it more durable and able to give the owner that extra sound that they are looking for.
I have owned and listened to over twenty different brands of subwoofers, such as Polk Audio, Pioneer, Bazooka, Audiobahn, Sony Xplode, and Kenwood. Of all those different brands of subwoofers, none compares to the MTX. Not only do they sound great but they are made as if they are bulletproof. My MTX has been put through a lot and they still sound like they are brand new.
I have used two different amplifiers with my MTX. The first amplifier I used was a cheap fifty-dollar 200-watt Optimus amplifier. I did not like that amplifier because it did not give my subwoofers full power. I next purchased a 250-watt MTX amplifier and I loved it. The amplifier is 4-channels with maximum 250 watts. My two 10-inch MTX with my 250-watt MTX amplifier sounds just like my friend's two 12-inch Bazooka's with a 300-watt Bazooka amplifier. People have told me they could not tell the difference between my 10-inch and his 12-inch.
I looked at the exact same subwoofer in Best Buy and at Circuit City. At either store each subwoofer would have cost me $79.99. I really did not want to pay that much so I started looking around and pricing out different brands, but I knew that I really wanted the MTX. I looked on Ebay, and other audio sites on the Internet. Finding the exact subwoofers I wanted on Amazon.com was just a fluke. I am so glad I did because the price on Amazon.com was more then fifty percent cheaper. I did not hesitate and bought them that day. I received them the next day by overnight mail. I have had them now for about four months and have absolutely no complaints. I will not hesitate to buy more car audio equipment on Amazon.com.
I recommend the MTX 10-inch dual coil subwoofer, 200-watt RMS, to anyone who enjoys music and loves the extra sound quality from your car stereo. I also recommend doing business with Amazon.com because it was easy and stress free, and I have absolutely no complaints about the product.

Bought the unit 25 months ago at a good price and have been satisfied with the sound quality. Just one month after the warranty expired the unit began smoking and fried. Luckily I was home before a fire started, but the power swith didn't cut it off, had to pull the plug. E-Mailed the manufacturer to see if there was a known defect in the amp or if there was a recall but have gotten no response. As I said, unit was cheap for the sound it put out, but is it worth burning down your house?

After looking for a decent priced 12" subwoofer, I found this one.
Some people, complain about the sound this... the frequency that... the design here and there.
People: If you want more and better, then pay $400 and up.
Bottom line: This sub has a great sound and decent features for a great price.
Even more, there is nothing else in the market, for the price, with this quality of sound and features, period.
It is a winner in my book.

I'm happy with the purchase. It adds a lot to the lower end and my wife says she can hear it on the second floor (it's in a 700 sq. foot basement). It's got good adjustments (volume, phase)and an auto-on switch so you don't need to touch it once it's setup. I used the THX optimizer from my Toy Story DVD to adjust the volume and am very satisfied.
One concern is that there is a minor buzz, but this goes away when I disconnect the cable from my Sony DB830 receiver so I'm not going to blame the sub for that. You can't turn this *all* the way up as it becomes muddy (a little distorted) but it's more than enough for a Home Theater system. I have it set at about 50% volume and it's perfect.
