Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.
JLab Audio.......2007-06-08
The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Great sound quality for such a tiny package.......2007-11-05
I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.
A Great iPod Speaker........2007-08-08
It is tiny, compact (no wiggley parts to break off) it runs on batteries as well as AC and I am completely delighted with it.JLab Audio MBBG1 Miniblaster Portable Speaker for iPod Nano (Gen 1) - Black
STOP THINKING AND BUY IT.......2007-07-28
Best bang for the buck...i read all the reviews. just buy it. you can't beat $15 shipped. it gets the job done.
Excellent Company.......2007-06-11
My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Pretty Decent Sound.......2007-12-27
For the money, portability and sound, these speakers are pretty decent....there is of course no earthing shattering bass but for a small place or desk top, the sound quality is fine. I have this on the microwave in the kitchen and often take it up to the bath when I soak in the jacuzzi. The "surround" sound option does make the music a letter deeper.
Great all around. not issues........2007-12-26
I chose this one after listening to many at the Apple store. This one had the best and most full sounds by far. It holds a charge for a long while and can last a weekend of camping without charging. I used it in the car when my FM transmitter was giving me issues. When plugged in, it charges the ipod so it's one less plug to take when traveling. this unit has become like my second set of headphones. always with me.
Nice Sound, had a problem, Logitech gave me a solution.......2007-12-24
Hello I purchased this item about 4 months ago and gave it to my wife for her birthday. About 10 days ago they stopped working and I was going nuts. Luckily the motorola rzor charger fits so I was able to charge it and so I figured it was the power adaptor that was broken. I went to Logitech's web page (at he time their online system was not working) so I called them and ordered a replacement for $10 + $5.95 which is very reasonable. I am waiting for the plug but I'm very happy that I was able to get my replacement for a very reasonable price. About the speakers they are very nice, not too loud, but enough, the sound is very good and the rechargeable batteries are a nice add on
Logitech Speakers for I-POD.......2007-12-24
This is an awesome product! I purchased one in MAY 07 - sound is great, you can charge your I-POD while listening to music, and unplug it and carry it where ever you want to go. Excellent product - highly recommended. My sister also purchased this as a Christmas present for my neice this year.
Warning... These Speakers DO NOT Work With Any Nano Sold Today!.......2007-12-17
These speakers produce fairly decent sound, but they DO NOT work with any I-Pod Nano being sold today. They are great for the old Nano, but not the new (3rd generation) Nano. None of the current adapters that accompany these speakers work. Some might suggest that you can use the thin plate, but that is a terrible solution for two reasons:
1) The thin plate doesn't provide support to the back of the Nano. In other words, there's space between the front of the plate and the back of the Nano. What this means is that you'd be flexing the connector a little bit every time you fiddled with the Nano controls when it's docked. The Nano just kind of hangs out there in mid-air on the tinny little connector at the bottom. Eventually it would break off.
2) It's almost impossible to get the new 3rd Generation Nano OUT of the dock because the new Nano sits all the way down into the slot - unlike the taller older Nanos. There's simply no way to get a grip on it to pull it out. You can't grip the sides of the Nano, because there's not enough space to get your fingers in there. The ONLY way to get it out is to stick your finger BEHIND the Nano (and to do that you must REALLY flex the connector). So the thin adapter plate DOES NOT work. No way - no how. I tried.
I contacted Logitech tech support via their forum. Someone else had already posted about this issue. He got bogus information, posted back, and was ignored. So I posted a follow-up. Their tech support person said he'd check, and that it might take a couple days... that was weeks ago and there has been complete silence since then. So beware of anything Logitech says on this issue. They appear to be trying to leave the impression that these speakers work with the Nanos being sold today. Trust me... they don't.
Bottom line... these speakers are NOT compatible with the new 3rd generation Nano (the only Nano being sold today). I was very surprised to see that these speakers are listed on Apple's site as being compatible with the third generation Nanos. They aren't.

Bodacious!.......2007-03-08
A little more than a year ago, I purchased an iPod nano to allay boredom while abusing myself on the cross trainer and weight machines at the gym. There usually wasn't much on the one ceiling-mounted TV screen, a situation exacerbated by a distinct lack of lightly oiled, hard-bodied Babes to keep the mind occupied. Since then, management has installed five new, widescreen monitors usually set to ESPN, CNN, Fox, the Food Channel, and the local Insipid Chatter News. However, the likes of Demi Moore are still absent. In any case, since the iPod is still useful there, I thought it might also lighten the mood at work by blocking out the screams coming from the room next door. But, the ear buds cord being likely to get tangled in the sharp and pointy tools of my profession, I decided a set of mini speakers was de rigueur.
The first thing you notice when the Logitech mm50 comes out of its box is the spiffy, semi-soft, protective case the 12 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 1 1/2" device comes in. The only thing that would make the case better would be a handle, which it doesn't have. It should be noted here that the speakers' remote controller, not much bigger than a pack of Dentyne gum, is constrained in an elastic retaining strap inside the case - something to keep in mind when you first open the packaging and you think the controller is missing.
The single-page of fold-out instructions for use is written in English, French, and Spanish. So, if you're only conversant in Armenian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, or Farsi, you're SOL. In any case, the IFU has six sections: Connecting Your Speakers, Using Your Speakers, Charging Your Speakers, Safety, End-of-Life Battery Disposal Instructions, and Limited Warranty. Presumably, the "end-of-life" bit refers to the battery not the user, and you'll probably toss the dead battery out the car window anyway. And, since nobody but a compulsive will read the safety and warranty sections, that leaves the other three of only real use, all of which are easily understood and include simple schematic drawings. I mean, let's get real, this isn't the Mars Rover here. The four buttons on the top right edge of the unit are Power On/Off, 3D Stereo On/Off, Volume Down, and Volume Up. The power button LED is either blinking blue (AC power active, speakers charging), solid blue (AC power active, speakers charged), solid purple (battery power active), or solid red (battery power active, battery low). The 3D stereo button LED is either unlit (off) or amber (3D stereo active). Pushing the thing on the face of the unit that looks like a button with "Logitech" and its logo depicted on it does not, as near as I can tell, connect you with Customer Service. (More about the 3D stereo feature later, as well as the remote controller.) The docked iPod itself is otherwise operated as usual with its control wheely.
The mm50 comes with two iPod adapters. Because I've fitted my nano with a skin-tight, rubberized protector to keep off the gym sweat and blood, it won't slide into its adapter. Were I to cut the skin off and return the nano to the bare naked state it had when birthed by God (Steve Jobs) at Apple, it would fit nicely. I've either to purchase a more easily removable skin, or, as I'm doing now, set the iPod in the speakers without the adapter and hope I don't snap off the connector by accidentally hitting the set-up with a thrown chair.
A few words about the speakers' volume control, which can linked to the iPod's volume control, or not. In the former mode, pressing the speakers' volume up/down buttons will cause the iPod display to light up and show its volume control bar in action. The advantage of linkage is the visual reference; the disadvantage is that the speakers' volume is limited by the iPod's audio capacity. Unlinked, the speakers' upper volume limit is its own, which is greater, but unseen. With the volume in the linked setting, the sound filled our home's spacious living room and caused the wife to yell, "Idiot! Turn it down!" Unlinked, I imagine I could disturb the neighbors, but have been so far afraid to try. In either mode, however, the sound is (to the extent that I've boosted it) undistorted and crystal sharp. Those privileged few allowed into my inner sanctum at work have already commented on the mm50's clarity; one even thought it a Bose.
There is one feature that seems marginal, but then I'm not an audiophile geek by any stretch of the definition. The 3D Stereo is ostensibly supposed to make a marked difference in the sound. But, to my ears, it doesn't do much except increase the resonance by a barely perceptible amount. And, at 58, it's not due to faulty hearing, either. Despite other failing body parts, I can still hear a cheeseburger hit the griddle at 50 paces.
Lastly, there's the remote control device. On its face are seven buttons: Power On/Off, Pause, Track Forward, Track Back, Volume Up, Volume Down, and 3D Stereo On/Off. It works from at least about 20 feet away; I haven't tried farther. Oddly, there's no mention in the IFU about the type of battery it takes, or where to find and how to open the battery compartment. Discovering it is easy enough; it's on the bottom edge. Opening it takes at least two fingers, one of which must have a nail not gnawed to the quick. Inside you'll find a single CR2025 power cell.
I'm exorbitantly pleased with this speaker unit, and recommend it without reservation.
Note: The mm50 reviewed is in a white finish, though this shouldn't make any performance difference unless there's some guilt-driven, uber-level of political correctness that's escaped my notice. Perhaps there should be a version in a rainbow finish so we can all get along.
