These speakers are just amazing. The bass cranks! Makes my whole room shake with 1 click of the dial on my keyboard (10% power). I bought these for 32$ a month ago. They were so good I bought another one for 50$. They are really worth it. They are cool looking and sound great.

I got this item from J&R and boy, after managing to hook everything together, the sound output that came through it was awesome! One thing I noticed about it though was its inability to fully support synthesized music (the likes of Raindancer, Depeche Mode, Cause & Effect, Red Flag plus many other hard-bass loops) because it easily quit delivering any sound longer than one track. I guess it only plays for Pop music that aren't hard hitters. But, as a whole, I had fun with it.

Overall, these are wonderful speakers. I was quite impressed with the boom-box, which has its own individual knob to control the bass output. I was also impressed with the build quality of the speaker set, which is made out of a hard, sturdy plastic. Even the mesh covers over the speakers look sturdy and well put together. No doubt, these Logitech speakers put my old Creative speakers to shame.
Now why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5, you ask? I did notice a small problem: when I plug my headphones into the headphone jack on the right speaker, the volume knob on the speaker doesn't work. In other words, once I plug in my headphones, even if I turn the volume knob to full blast, the volume stays the same. Instead, I have to control the sound through the volume control in my operating system. Thankfully, that works just fine. Most probably won't even consider this a problem, but I'm picky like that.
In either case, I'm not sure if this was an intentional design on Logitech's, or if I simply got a defective unit. On the other hand, it could just be a problem with Ubuntu Linux, since that's the operating system I'm using. I haven't tested it on Windows or OSX, since I don't use them.
Other than that, though, I have no complaints. And since I got this at a special deal on Amazon - $29.99 - it was well worth the money and I have no regrets.

I bought a new computer and the internal speakers were not what I wanted. So I purchased the logitech speakers for under 40 dollars and what a great buy. The speakers are exactly what I wanted and are great quality. You cant find a better product for a better price. Easy to plug and play, sharp looking, and create a great sound. Probably the best buy for me in 2007.

I am surprised..I have their other products and I was always satisfied with the speakers I have received in the past. However, I received used speakers and the speakers did not work. I believe it was the co. that sold me the unit. I used this unit as batting practice since they would not give me a refund or return them for exchange.

these speakers look amazing and sound clear as a bell, ive heard things in songs ive never heard before with these speakers, but if you want to blast music these speakers are not for you, they start distorting a whole lot when you turn it up

I bought the JBL Creature II after doing a lot of reaserch on the web. The quality of the sound is good and it can get pretty loud for a room. I like it and recommend it. JBL has released two newer models (1 is available in Europe only) with a different design. You may want to check the other models first before buying it.
Price keeps dropping, while performance has improved.......2007-01-20
First of all, disregard older complaints about losing volume settings. The current edition of Creature II (my box says model DW-607) no longer has that problem -- I powered the speakers on and off, and even unplugged them to verify that the last volume setting persisted across power cycles. In addition, specifications have improved slightly from those listed in the product description: freq response is now rated 45Hz-20KHz, satellite power is now 9W each, and subwoofer power is now 27W. While they were over $[...] when first launched, you can now buy a set of Creature IIs for less than $[...].
I think these are a nice set of COMPUTER speakers for the money, but don't get caught up in some other reviewers' enthusiastic marks for sonics. Although the name JBL conjures connotations of home stereo audio bliss, these are definitely computer speakers, not home stereo speakers. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is rated at 10% -- while that is a typical number for inexpensive, powered speakers for computers, a middle of the road home stereo amp comes in at well under 1% THD. In addition, while the power rating seems high, at least compared to your home or car stereo, I've found that I wish I had a bit more headroom in the volume department. Max volume on these speakers is fine when you're sitting right in front of them, but you won't be able to hear them very well from the next room. In addition, I agree with other's complaints that the cross over at 180Hz is a rather rough transition -- it would have been a good idea to add a midrange knob to the existing bass and treble knobs, or to even trade the treble knob for a midrange. The sound is somewhat unnatural in the midrange unless you make some adjustments with an equalizer -- both iTunes and my iPod provide that feature, therefore, that wasn't a deal breaker for me.
All that being said, these are definitely worth the $45 I paid, and a nice step up from the typical speakers that come bundled with computer systems. Just don't expect them to transform your computer into a home stereo system. They sound more like a good boom box.

I was looking for some computer speakers to use temporarily and I took a chance on these. I wouldn't rate them as highly as the other reviewers. Playing one video I heard a high pitch squeal sound, so I plugged in a different set of speakers and no longer heard that sound, so I'm returning them. Maybe I just got a defective set of speakers.

I have a PC but don't get me wrong, I love to accessorize, especially my speakers. When I first bought this 3 piece, I was impressed by its features: 27 Watt subwoofer OF WOOD so it doesn't have distortions, Magnetically shielded sattelites so you don't have to worry about putting it close to your PC. Best of all, it comes with 6 colors, one already on the satellites, five others including yellow, red, green and blue (already on) so you can accessorize accordingly to your iMAC. It has a bass knob on the subwoofer and a volume control on the right satellite.
This stylish system packs a nice 40 Watts, the two satellites together are 13 and the subwoofer is a generous 27. It comes with a nice cord that will look great with your current mac. It's got a input jack you easily hook to any microphone/line source and the AC adapter has a coiling wire that stretches so you can place the subwoofer under your desk, next to a table of wood which is good for the subwoofer to vibrate and shake on. I can feel it on my desk right now, do not underestimate these fancy looking speakers, they kick and has lots of boom!
So far, there's nothing bad, I only dislike the poorer treble quality of the satellites but they're not all that bad-only a little worse compared to my old Creative ones but that's because they were 20 watts, not 13.
If you are looking for a great speaker package to style your mac, go for it, if you have a PC and you are a hardcore gamer/frequent mp3 downloader or just listen to music a lot, I recommend the ACS5x systems. I think you'll find them to your liking with more bass and slightly more treble.
For macs, or the newer ones, to replace your Harmon Kardon speakers is a crime! Don't! Skip on these Altec Lansing ones for now unless you desperately seek deeper, richer bass.
