Terrific Little Speaker with Clear, Strong Sound.......2007-09-07
After reading several dozen consumer reviews describing laptop speakers I puchased this one. You simply plug it into your laptop, or USB hub, swivel the gooseneck to position the speaker where you want, and you've got an excellent speaker that fits in a small laptop utility bag.
The only complaint I have is that there is no quick volume control; once you've plugged it into your USB port, it overrides the laptop's volume control "knob". You have to open the volume icon in your Control Panel every time you want to adjust the speaker volume, which can be too slow when you're being blasted by a loud video.
This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the volume modulation in the speaker itself, just that there seems to be a wide volume range across items I view--YouTube, email messages with videos from friends, etc.
If this speaker had a volume control knob it would be perfect!
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DELL LAPTOPS.......2007-09-02
After several weeks of light, mid-volume use, the speaker stopped working on my Dell Latitude D500 and I began receiving error messages noting a "device malfunction". After trading emails with J-Lab customer service, I was instructed to return the speaker by mail (at my expense) for a refund. The refund I received was 80% of the original purchase price because, according to J-Lab, the device was still "working" upon receipt. The representative handling the return acknowledged that there has, in fact, been a history of compatibility issues with Dell laptops-- in other words, a "working" speaker may not always operate correctly when connected to a Dell laptop. Is trying this speaker on your Dell worth the risk of paying two sets of shipping charges, losing 20% of the purchase price, and spending time emailing representatives and repacking/mailing the device? If not, maybe it's worth considering alternatives.
Are we listening to the same speakers?.......2007-08-08
We bought this speaker for our Gateway M505 Media Laptop on a recent trip. The M505 has reasonable speakers for a laptop, but their volume level isn't quite strong enough for us to be happy--we'd always find ourselves straining to hear dialogue from movies.
From reading the reviews I honestly thought this would solve our problem in a nifty self-contained USB-powered fashion.
For us it didn't.
We found the speakers to be nearly identical to the M505 speakers, and while the B-Flex did give us the tiniest improvement in volume, it wasn't enough to really give us adequate volume, or the "big sound" many reviewers have mentioned. Also, there is no way a speaker the size of these can give the kind of frequency response any level of audiophile would be happy with.
So, who should try out this speaker? If you have standard tinny sounding laptop speakers (the almost nonexistent kind), these will be a big improvement. Also you will like the fact that it is USB powered so no batteries, no cords are needed.
However, having said that, I really think the bottom line is, to get truly better sound, you need to use a powered speaker. I think some of the JBL's may be the way to go.
For cost of these guys, unless you catch them on sale, my advice is to keep looking. We had to return ours. (Thanks to Amazon a really fair & generous return policy).
Definite improvement over stock, and extremely portable.......2007-07-08
My boyfriend bought me this speaker. It is plug-and-play. On my computer, often movies are not loud enough for some reason and with this speaker it's as loud as we could possibly want. Also I can blast my music throughout the house from my laptop - before I could not because it sounded horrible at high volumes.
I'm not much of a sound expert, but I think it sounds pretty good.
Flexible, Mobile & Fierceful .......2007-05-13
Love this laptop speakers!! My laptop speakers suck so much that this little guy just gives me the wonderful sound my laptop deserves!! I highly recommend it!!

Average sound.......2007-03-22
Unless your laptop's soundcard is not working, or your speakers are barely hearable I wouldn't recommend this. Odds are your laptop does as much as these speakers.
It is well built, looks resistant and it does a decent job. Do not expect very good quality.
Like it so much bought it for a friend........2007-03-08
I like the sound of mine so much I bought one fo my friend for his birthday. It's not super loud but you can listen to music from your mac, with good quality. Just plug it into your USB port. My friend loves his too. He uses his all the time. Great for travel.
Works perfectly........2007-01-30
Speakers quit working on my laptop and needed something decent and easy - and this is better than that. Good quality considering size and price.
Lots of power in a small package.......2007-01-19
I really thought the reviews for this item were probably a little over-blown, but the speakers have proven me wrong. As someone who primarily uses their laptop on the go, I have been looking for a set of small, easily transportable, decent sounding speakers. These fit into all three categories. I am pleasantly surprised by the fullness of the sound that they put out. If you're strictly an audiophile, you'd be better off investing in a good set of Bose headphones, but if you need something to quickly and efficeintly plug and play so other people can hear what is on your laptop, then you won't find a better buy for your money.
Cool!.......2007-01-13
It was a gift to my daughter and she was thrilled! We were all amazed at
the "out of the box" design and think that the folks at JLab need to expand and create a whole lot of new "out of the box" stuff to make life
easier and more efficient! And, the speaker sounds GREAT!

Lacks features, but surprisingly good sound for price.......2007-11-26
I got this on Black Friday and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised with the sound provided by this extremely portable set of speakers. I just needed something to use when I'm alone at the office and doing after-hours work and I've come to find out these are perfect for such an application.
They fold up nicely if you need to transport them and even crank out decent volume and sound quality for such a small package. I actually own a $50 set at home that comes with a remote and a true docking capability but sounds far inferior to this set of speakers.
They really should have included an adapter, however, and there's no way to charge your ipod using this set as you can't actually "dock" it but actually only plug it in with a standard 1/8" plug through the included cord. But if battery life is good enough, this may not even be an issue.
nice for the price. .......2007-11-09
This is a nice little set of speakers for under $20. They sound fairly nice for speakers as small as they are. I was just basically looking for something that is easily portable and easy to travel with. I think ive found it here.

1st one melted, 2nd works great.......2007-09-16
See title........1st unit's battery compartment, smoked and melted at contact points, YIKES. Notified vendor and they RUSHED a replacement to me. Works great. Fantastic sound for a ridiculously cheap price. Yes, your iPod/MP3 player is running on its own battery , big deal, whadcha want for $4-$6???????
Does The Job.......2007-08-14
Sometimes the iPod's headphones/earbuds just won't do (especially if you are sharing the music with others).
Compared to other iPod accessories, the Digilife Fold-Up Compact Speakers are very cheap. But the quality is a little better than what you'd expect. Depending on the environment, the sound is good -- like a small portable radio. It's easy to pack, and adds much to the car or the hotel room or the campsite!
...I'm listening to them at work right now. The speakers are fabulous!.......2007-07-10
As I bobbed my head along to the rich, clear, and loud beats from these speakers, I decided it's only fair to write a review for them.
They sound just as good as my HP entertainment laptop speakers, as they deliver almost the same volume as my laptop. The other thing I like about the digilife speakers is that they have low distortion; you don't get the tinny/scratchy noise unless you turn the volume all the way up.
These speakers are so portable, I can fit them into my purse so that I can use them whenever a good music opportunity may arise.
There are two things I do not like about the speakers, however. First, it doesn't come with an AC adapter. That would come in handy when my AAA batteries die. Nonetheless, the battery life on the speakers seems to be quite good. Second, the speakers have a little blue light on top near the power button. The light stays lit when the the speaker power is on, and it's annoying to see the blue light shining if I'm in a dark room.
Despite these minor flaws, if you're trying to decide if these speakers are too cheaply-priced to waste your time buying them, let me just say: buy them! For the price, they are certainly well worth it.
***A tip to get the best sound from the speakers is to turn the volume on your iPod all the way up, and then adjust the speaker volume to whatever you prefer.
Its amazing speaker for the price!.......2007-06-09
I love it too... I bought 25 speakers, and I didnt think that for 1.44$ I will take that speakers... I love the sound, the color all of this speaker... its very confortable and fashion
firewire cable users beware.......2007-05-31
My friend owns a set of these and it is true, they sound great. The beef I have with them is that they only work with USB ipods. I know I am a dying breed, but my iPod only works with a firewire cable, thus I am not able to use these speakers. Good thing they were so cheap, I ended up giving them to a friend with no real regrets. Just wish I'd known ahead of time.

++ PROS ++
+ Lightweight, weighs less than a pound !
+ Foldable, can be easily packed in a backpack or purse, even a large 3 ring binder can hold them
+ Battery powered, decent battery time, we get at least 12 - 16 hours of usage off 4 Duracell AAA's
-- CONS --
- The AAA batteries will drain even if you don't turn it on, we went on vacation for a week and inserted a fresh set of batteries before we left. When we came back the sound started fading then they drained in less than 30 minutes !!
- The power switch, when in the Off position an orange section of paint strip is exposed, red and orange normally means "ON" but not in this device.
- Bass is really distorted, but what do you expect from speakers so small, treble is decent and has to be maxed out before it starts to sound tingy.
I wanted a set of iPod speakers which didn't require AC power, like these because they have decent output for something the size of a medium size cucumber. Use them all the time, you can tell when the batteries are getting low because the sound sounds notably distorted, almost like a weak radio frequency.
I'd buy them again if I had to replace it.

Good sound for what it is.......2007-12-26
I was concerned that such an inexpensive product would deliver poor sound. In fact we used it to play Christmas music over a four room lower section of the house, and it did well. It's not a Bose, of course. It runs off of AA batteries or a plug. When you have it plugged in, it automatically stops using the batteries. It uses the earphone jack for audio output, so I think it shoud work with any MP3 player. It's a very high value for a low cost.
Fantastic sound for cheap small travel speaker.......2007-08-26
This speaker set folds up in to a rectangle cubeish thing. folding itself up protects the speakers...smart and simple.
Uses the headphone input from your ipod or ANY other audio source including headphone out from your PC or some other mp3 player.
Uses 4 AAA batts or INCLUDED AC adapter.
The sound is very good for a pair of speakers this small it will fill a small hotel room with sound.
I bought 2 sets and a Y audio splitter which gives you a nice powerfull audio system for less than $15.
This is almost the same product as Pro Power digital ipod speakers except those exchange the AC Adaptor for a USB power adaptor, so you can power your speakers with the USB power on your laptop.

It works well enough, but ..........2007-04-05
I bought these as a gift for my hubby. Its a good unit and better than one would expect for the price -- there are some very expensive units out there that don't sound as good. The set-up has good sound quality (a personal perceptual thing) and it looks cool. However, the volume and balance controls are minute & obscurely. They revert to lowest setting when the unit is turned off and then back on. It comes with jacks for both the Sansa & the Pod; but the cradle one puts the player in is large enough for the larger mp3 players, but for the smaller ones it is almost useless -- you have to lay it sorta on its side and it is not stable. It should include a smaller cradle. While none of these things make this a bad set-up, it is not the best choice for my guy it required a that my 61 yr old husband. make adjustments to its use. He likes things sorta "plug & play." That is, he turns it on and it works the way he thinks it should -- no learning curve wanted. This is not a pretty thing to watch or be caught up in.
