Case of too small for my PDA.......2007-05-07
I purchased this item for my PALM PDA. What a waste of money. My Palm Tungsten would not fit. Probably my fault for throwing away the packaging before actually trying it out. I bought a new tungsten and the case, but the case arrived first. I opened the package and tossed the container. After all, both items I bought were from Palm. That was my first mistake. Now I'm stuck with a case I cannot use.

My view of the aluminun hard case for the LiveDrive.......2007-02-16
I bought this item for my wife. She had the following to say: My LiveDrive came with a leather case that was the pits, because it fit too tight, and would make the LiveDrive turn on, just sliding it into the case. I opted for the aluminum case. I had a hard time opening it until I discovered that I needed to apply sideways pressure against the door, before lifting up on it. As long as I remember to do that, it solved the problem. It is very sturdy and I love it! I don't worry about the LiveDrive being damaged in my purse. I'm not as afraid that I will drop it. The door on the front is a little flimsy, but holds up. If they could improve the door, it would get a 5 star rating from me!

Looks like metal box, right-WRONG. It's a cardboard box with plastic imitation metel glued on the outside. Three aluminum rails on the inside. Go ahead and buy it so you can WATCH your expensive cd collection fall all over the airport floor when it breaks apart and HEAR the people laugh.

Poor manufacturing quality.......2007-07-06
It works fine, EXCEPT... a) the manufacturer's QA is bad, and b) the unit's design is lacking. I wish I'd spent a little more and got a better one.
The 1st unit wouldn't work on arrival. Apparently glue from assembly had gotten into the power switch and locked it in place, tho there was no visual evidence to that. The unit wouldn't power up even tho the power switch was locked in the 'on' position. The switch just wouldn't budge. TigerDirect's response was excellent, but still, it cost me $6 extra to return it.
The 2nd unit powered up, but couldn't be closed because epoxy glue had run half way across the PC board, down a bracket and pooled in one of the two screw holes that secure the "workings" to the "can". I had to drill and tap the glue out of the screw hole (OR pay another $6 for another return.)
Concerning design:
a) The power and activity indicators should be located on the front of the unit. There's a combo power/activity light on the back end... so, you have to turn it around to see what it's doing (OR position it where you have to look at the cables ALL the time.)
b) This unit is NOT of the "tool-less" design. It requires a screwdriver to open or close it and I have several cheap drives I want to swap in & out. Arghh!!!

Works fine, brand new. Gets pretty warm if left on too long and is not sitting up in the stand. Otherwise, I have not had a problem with it.

This case is exceptionally solid and well built. Considering many generic soft sided laptop cases are now arounf $50, this is also a steal. Inside is nicely padded for laptops.
Note that the inner capacity dimensions don't include padding for some reason, so subtract about .25" to .5" from the given values.
