Get Idea, poor product marketing and development.......2007-12-26
Pro: Great Industrial design, useful combination of picture frame and clock, good set of features. Con: no slide show mode when viewing with clock, Poor clock/picture screen layout and sensitivity to low lighting, no AM radio frequency.
I agree with what others have said concerning this product. I purchased this product for my wife for Christmas because she needed a new alarm clock and she's quite the sentimental type.
This is a great idea that Philips sales and exec. team came up with, but being in product management myself, I can imagine that poor product marketing doomed this product. I'll bet that there was no user testing or focus study groups for this product, or if there was, they we're asking the right questions, or testing it in the right conditions (did anyone every have potential users try to sleep in a dark room with it.)
My biggest problem with it, and reason that I will return it, is that you can not slideshow mode the pictures when showing the clock. This is absurd since it is a pretty cool clock and a good digital photo frame but can not be both - "one hand not knowing what the other is doing." I also agree with another reviewer that they could have made better use of the 7 inch screen when showing the clock and photo. The interface designer was more interested with making the photo look like a 35mm slide than thinking about all the wasted space it takes up on the screen not to mention the excessive white space giving off too much light at night. I disagree with what other reviewers have said about no built-in memory; if your going to use this as a picture frame, most users will purchase a 1 to 4Gig SD card for it - and in this implementation, Philips did it right.
Philips, if you're listening, don't deep-six this product line because of poor sales or returns, but rather from a poor implementation by your product development and management team - You still have a chance to make a winner with a follow-on to this product, or a significant Software upgrade.
This is NOT an MP3 Alarm Clock.......2007-12-26
This device is a snazzy digital picture frame with some excellent features, but DO NOT BE FOOLED. It is NOT an MP3 alarm clock. It has alarm clock features to wake you up to the FM tuner (no AM) or to some pre-set sounds (mostly nature soothers). The packaging is somewhat misleading, and the store I found it in placed it with the alarm clocks and implied that it could wake you to any MP3 or WMA file placed onto an SD card. It is NOT the case.
That being said, when viewed as a digital picture frame, the device is quite nice. It has both a slideshow feature and a clock feature which will show you the date and time while it displays photos singly or in a loop. It has nice speakers for playing MP3s with or without a photo slideshow, and allegedly it can handle DIVX and MP4 videos (I have not made it work with one yet). The unit is stylish and far more at home on a work desk or well-kept home than most digital picture frames. Be aware, however, that to use some functions the files must ALL be kept on the root directory of the memory card and that it does not support MP3 playlists.
Overall, a nice addition to the digital picture frame arena, but be careful an overzealous salesperson does not mislead you about its true capabilities.
It does eveything with almost no regrets.......2007-12-21
to answer a few other reviews right off the bat the default image is only the first picture until you go into clock mode and change it then go back to the other modes.
I bought this for my father for Christmas as he was looking a for a desktop radio and we liked the idea that it was a photo frame as well as he is proud of his farm and family and displays pictures throughout his office.
I am currently testing the device to make sure it's perfect for his gift and I don't see the problems others are seeing unless they just missed the feature.
it dims for night use if you hold the snooze bar, it rotates pictures using the arrow buttons
IN FACT my only complaint is you cant use the USB stick input and the SD card at the same time. and internal memory would be nice, but if you bundle the 1GB SD amazon offers it works well.
the picture is slightly pixelated and flickery, but bright and plenty visible. it's not a perfect picture frame, nor a perfect alarm clock although it offers many features for both. but it is the only combination of the two that I would buy.
For the right price it's a good unit.......2007-12-18
I got this unit for about $49 with free shipping, and at that price point it is worth it. It is NOT worth it for the $100+ the MSRP is stated as.
The LCD has poor resolution (although all text is anti-aliased which helps slightly), and fairly limited viewing angles.
The volume control is not electronic, nor tied to a source, with some sources such as the sleep relaxation music, being substantially louder than say the MP3 and DiVX playback.
The firmware update did resolve not only the date issue, but also added expanded filename viewing, and a few other cosmetic tweaks.
Despite what the manual says, I cannot get an MPEG4 video file to play. DiVX files appear to play without any issues - though one cannot shut off the playback time or playback remaining display.
The LCD backlighting is controlled both by a big button at the top, and also by software settings that allow the display to dim to it's lowest level at a selected time, and return to bright at a selected time. The dim setting is, for me acceptable so long as I don't have the display pointed directly at me. Turning it slightly to face the room, results in a pleasing nightlight. Contrast and display readability suffer a bit when the display backlighting is turned down.
The radio tuner section does not support RDS or E-O-N for radio stations.
decent.......2007-12-14
A good deal for $50 when Amazon had it, don't buy it for more than 70 or so.

Good Sound, CD Doesn't Work.......2007-12-26
I bought this as a surprise gift for my husband for Christmas 2007. He was so excited he took it out of the box and hung it below the kitchen cabinet right after he opened it. The radio worked great with good sound but it wouldn't play any CD's. Now we have to take it down and return it, and I have holes in my cabinet. Very disappointing.
Music.......2007-11-08
This is a really nice cd / radio player. Ours is in the laundry room. Love the sound and style. Only problem is reception for the radio but that is only every now and then.
Great value and great quality.......2007-10-31
Was searching for a pull-down TV/radio for awhile for my kitchen and couldn't justify the high cost of the TV and thought I'd settled for a radio with TV broadcast. Very happily surprised with the TV broadcast and the radio is great. No interference and I have it next to my microwave and pretty close to the frig. The sound quality is typical awesome Sony and putting a magnet on the remote is ingenious. I'm extremely happy with the price too - $20 lower than BestBuy.
Absolutely love it........2007-10-28
After reading all the reviews I decided to buy the product. It arrived within days, very easy to install, the sound is more then I expected. The design is trimline and looks great under the cabinet. Would highly recommend this product.
Excellent undercabinet radio........2007-10-23
The sound quality is very good for an undercabinet radio. I like the timer feature for the kitchen as well. The keys are easy to understand and the cd player does it's job.

Option packed for the $$$.......2007-12-21
I purchased this receiver to untangle the web of cables that spanned the space between my audio rack and 60" SONY XBR rear projection HDTV. After removing all of my existing cables, I was thinking that I would be able to make HDMI connections between the Cable Box/DVR, Upscaling DVD player, and the receiver, then make one HDMI to DVI connection to the TV. HOWEVER, when that is done, Audio drops out at the receiver level (which seems quirky, but is documented in the manual), so I needed to pick up audio with optical cables. The automated audio setup is really sweet, using the provided microphone and a tripod, and this program picked up two out of phase speaker connections that I had to correct.
Sound is terrific, and we feel like our Home Theater experience has been enhanced by this purchase.
Excellent Product.......2007-12-05
I've had this system for one week now and I can say with confidence that it is one excellent unit. The set-up was easy and the speaker setup was quick and efficient. The system sounds great. I had visitors over and every one of them notice the quality surround sound. The instructions were also easy to read and it clarified a lot of my questions and concerns. I had an old Kenwood receiver, I can definitely state, the performance and sound is overwhelmingly superior.
Sony STR-DG810 6.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver .......2007-12-04
Easy to set up. My only disappointment was with the HDMI out. You can not use an HDMI to DVI conversion cable. You will lose all sound if you do. To take full advantage of the new unit I'll have to wait until I buy a new TV.
Great Amplifier but one huge problem!!.......2007-11-13
This does what it does very well, actually better than very well if one considers the relatively low price. However, what Amazon and Sony don't tell you (except burried in tons of tiny statements) is that IF you use the amplifier's HDMI output to feed signals to your TV, the amplifier will ONLY transmit video signals (from your cable/sat box and DVD) if they come in via the HDMI input. In other words, if your DVD does not have 'HDMI out', and you connect it with the component or yellow video cable, the Sony amplifier will NOT NOT transmit (the tech tern is "up convert") the signal to your TV. For such a connection to work, you will have to connect the amplifier to the TV via normal cable instead of or in addition to HDMI.
Sony STR-DG810 Receiver.......2007-11-11
A great value in consumer electronics. Purchased mine from Amazon for less
than $300 dollars and could not be more pleased. Easy to program however it will be necessary to spend some time with the Instruction Manual in
order to completely familiarize oneself with the myriad capabilities. Mine
arrived with an inoperable input selector however this was corrected under
warrenty by a local authorized repair facility and the support that I
received from both Amazon and Sony was EXCELLENT. All of my components are
connected via HDMI and the 3 input sources that this unit provides are
sufficient. Sound in my opinion is excellent however I'm no audiophile.
I'm driving a set of Bose 301's as main with a pair of Infinity SM65's as
surround. Bose VCS-10 center channel and an Advent ASW1200 subwoofer.

Not at all what expected.......2007-12-18
I ordered this frame for my mother-in-law for Christmas. I chose this one because it was USB compatible and had an internal memory. First of all the so called user manual is a trifold pamphlet about a 4" by 12" rectangle that leaves alot of information out. I could find nowhere where it told me how many pictures the frame could hold (I found out by looking on the website)and the only way I can access a slide show of the pictures in the memory is to go to setup, delete files, sort, and finally I can get to a slide show (this information I discovered by trial and error, because the manual doesn't make it clear how to access the memory once the pictures are saved). Once you start this slide show its fine. The clock and calendar work fine, but I haven't tried the alarm. The only way you can play photos using the photo option on the main menu is by inserting a memory stick or card. Unfortunately the slide show keeps stopping after a few pictures, and when I try to accesss them through thumbnail mode it shows no pictures on the stick and shows a blank screen. It has even turned itself off several times when the screen goes black. I also have no idea how to load music and there is no information about this in the manual. I'm waiting for a call back from axion's customer service, but this is definitely too much inconvenience for my mother-in-law, and I'm prepared to stick it back in the box and return it.
Not 640x480, Not 4:3, Squashes Pictures.......2007-12-13
I almost gave this 2 stars instead of 1, as it worked pretty easily out of the box and the clock feature is a good idea, but then I discovered that it has less than half the claimed resolution which seems like a flat-out false claim.
Reasons I am sending it back for a refund: This frame is not 640x480 and is not 4:3 ratio.
The size of the screen is about 8" x 4.1". Not only is that not 4:3, it is not even 16:9.
When you display standard 4:3 photos, they should have a 1.33 ratio. On this frame, they are displayed at about 6.4" x 4.1", which is a ratio of 1.56. That means the photos are squashed and it makes faces look fatter than they really are.
The pixels are quite visible, so I counted in the vertical direction. I counted 24 pixels in about 0.47", which means there are only about 210 pixels in the entire vertical direction. Not nearly the claimed 480.
Mediocre.......2007-12-12
Not so good:
This digital frame is a good size at 9" but at only 640 x 480 resolution, your pictures taken with your 5+ mega pixel camera leave much to be desired. The images from less than 5 feet away are pixelated (boxy). Also, the clear plastic outer frame is a bit cheap and would look better if just left off in my opion.
The remote is also picky when using and you cannot press and hold a button to say fast forward through a song, or change the volume.
Good:
The things this frame does well is it's data reading and image handling. I stuck a SD card in and it brought up a folder view showing all the contents of the card which was nice. The images were displayed quickly and are able to be rotated and flipped any which way using the remote which is handy and the system remembers which way to orient the picture for later.
Overall:
Now that I've used this frame, it seems to be about right for the price. A mediocre screen with some useful features and corner's cut. Would I recommend? No, I think there are better frames at the same price but are smaller.
Great Quality Digital Frame.......2007-11-23
I bought this digital frame for my mom's birthday and she loves it! It has slideshow and plays MP3 songs. The coolest thing is the clock and alarm function. My mom can now replace her alarm clock with this cool digital frame. Perfect gift for any mom!

unimpressed.......2007-12-12
this clock would be ok if you took it with you camping or something but to have on your night stand, it's not the greatest. in order to illuminate the screen, you have to push down the snooze button. it's not even an easy button to push. good luck if you have arthritis in your fingers!
it works ok but next alarm clock i get i'm going to make sure it has an ac adapter as well as battery backup.
i'd keep searching if you want a good alarm clock. there is a reason the price is cheap. the product is too.
Great little alarm clock!.......2007-12-01
I purchased this clock to use every day because our power goes out often, and I needed a battery operated alarm clock. I was very impressed with the fit and feel of the clock when it arrived. I found it easy to set both the alarm and the time, and the backlight works beautifully. The alarm is a 2 stage alarm, starting out at a medium volume and then switching over to a louder volume after about 5 seconds. I've used it for about a week now, and I have no complaints. This is one of the best values I've come across in a long time!
Good solid value -- one major ergonmic flaw.......2007-11-30
It's a solid buy at eight bucks.
My only irritation is the alarm "on off" button is clustered on a multi-purpose slider switch.
The alarm "on off" deserves its own, big button, since its a feature you use every night and every morning. Indeed, this is how most alarm clocks do it -- a big dedicate "on off" that you can visually confirm is set correctly.
Why bury them most common task on a multi function button? It's easy to mis-set when you're groggy and that can be a real bummer if that makes you miss an early morning meeting.
Wakes me up!.......2007-11-10
Good sturdy alarm clock. A little louder than I'm used to but that's a good thing.
Everything I Wanted.......2007-11-04
This product was exactly what I was looking for to replace a similar clock. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything like this. I have a tiny nightstand and don't want to bother with electrical cords. Also, I"m nearsighted and this clock has big numerals that even I can read (when I hit the snooze button, it lights up the dial). I also like that the dial stays dark the rest of the time.

Sony ICF-M1000 Table Top Radio
The cabinet design is four- or five-star superb. But unless you would like to hold the powercord antenna in a narrowly fixed position to get even alocal FM station, this radio would be essentially useless.
Great product!.......2007-12-17
Excellent radio! While it may lack to pedigree of radios such as the Tivoli Model One, or a Boston Acoustics table top radio, the Sony ICF-M1000 performs well, delivering good sound and good FM reception. It's too bad Sony has apparently discontinued this radio. It's not often these days you can find a quality piece of electronics that doesn't attempt to do a million different things at once. The Sony ICF-M1000 is an AM/FM radio. That's it, and that's all it needs to be.
sony radio excells.......2007-11-15
I live in a remote location where radio reception is difficult..This radio provides surprisingly good reception (and sound) and is far superior to a Cambridge radio previously purchased which provided very poor reception (even though it cost much more than the Sony). I am so impressed with this Sony radio that I have purchased two more(especially as the discounted price is so low). m
Simply Beautiful with a Great Sound.......2007-11-03
Listening to my local FM jazz & reggae station, the depth of sound is amazing! A finely engineered product. I agree with another reviewer that this radio performs well, without being cluttered with alarm clock, cd player, extra speaker, etc. It does have plenty of input/output plugs, however, if you do want to extend the system (stereo headphone out, aux-in, line-out, external FM antenna connector). Sometimes less is more. Too bad Sony discontinued it (but glad for the price-reduction!)
Outstanding.......2007-10-18
I wanted a small, tabletop radio to listen to Yankee games and NPR, and my clock radio had crummy reception. I was stuck between those ultra cheap (and god-awful looking) CD player/boomboxes and the extravagantly priced Tivoli sets (over 100 bucks for a radio? I really can't afford that.) So, I was thrilled when I saw that this simple, sophisticated Sony model was on clearance on Amazon for 50 bucks (about a third of the original price.)
It looks great, and the reception is amazing. The sound quality is clear and crisp. This is, by far, the best tabletop radio you'll find for 50 bucks. 5 stars.

Perfect.......2007-09-30
This is a plug in clock with a battery backup (which is not entirely clear from the description). It is very small (definitely fits in the palm of your hand) but has a very clear LCD. I like that you can customize the color for the display but I found the basic blue shown in the picture works the best. It is perfect as a second clock for the other side of the bed--presuming there are two people.
Time in one small package.......2006-06-16
Ok maybe it was in the fine print or something but this alarm clock is TINY! I didn't realize it would be so small. It can pretty much fit in te palm of my hand.

Sharp SPC364 Atomic LCD alarm Clock .......2007-12-03
I am an atomic clock "fan" and this purchase is the latest of several atomic clock purchases. I purchased four of this particular item..two for me and two for a son in Calif. This is a compact ..easy-to-use item and becauwe of its nature, does not require re-setting when one does much traveling across the country.
Battery seems to last forever!.......2007-11-09
I bought this clock about 2 years ago and have never had to replace the battery yet! It works OK for me as an alarm..it is not very loud but that works for me. Since I have used the alarm function since I bought it not having the instructions have not been an issue but i can see how it could be difficult to learn without them. The biggest drawback is the very dim backlit but I have learned to live with it. This year it did not revert back to CST from DST. I finally pushed the reset button and it reset it self with in 2 minutes with the correct date and time. I don.t think Sharp makes this clock or any clock for that matter, because when you go the the company web site there are no clocks listed anywhere in products or support. I think they just license the name for these products and that is what makes it so hard to find manuals when they are lost. I think Amazon was very nice for scanning the manual and posting in the image section for this product.
night time clock-usable at other times.......2007-10-13
It is a bit early but the first indications are that this is just what i was looking for. The display could be a bit bigger but in the dark in the middle of the night, the curvature is manageable and the display last for just long enough.
One positive that will probably not go away was the ease of start up with this clock.
Wish I still had the receipt.......2007-09-18
I second all the negative things people have written here, with a few of my own to add. The snooze alarm, when I remember to make sure it's on (seriously -- you have to SET a snooze function???), only goes off twice, then the alarm (a very quiet one at that) is off for good. Fortunately for us, we have two very small children who wake us up before 7 each and every morning. Otherwise, my husband would be later for work than he already is. The beeping with EVERY function is so annoying, and even though we can't manage to set the stupid thing without instructions (thank you to the person who posted them -- our kids managed to hide and/or destroy them), our kids manage to screw up the clock several times a week (usually changing time zones or putting it in 24-hour mode, though this morning they somehow froze it, but changing the battery fixed that). The background lighting works but you can read the display only if you're looking down at it, and if you're lying down at night you're probably level with it or looking UP at it, so it's unreadable until you point it down (hardly intuitive when you're barely awake). What I DO like, though, is that it's small/lightweight, so when I remember, I can move it out of the kids' reach. I also like that it's attractive and accurate, but I'd like to think there are MANY other clocks out there that can say the same thing. I can't believe Sharp is still making this after at least two years of the same flaws (judging by the reviews on here). Skip this clock and buy something better. I still may take it back to Wal-Mart and see if I can exchange it for something worth my hard-earned $10...
Keeps accurate time, looks good, but very hard to adjust.......2007-03-11
I was given this clock by someone who didn't want it any more. It definitely keeps accurate time. It looks good and doesn't take up much space in my office, where I have it on my desk near my computer monitor.
I don't ever use this clock as an alarm clock, so I can't comment on that particular feature.
I'd give this clock a rating of 4 or 5 except for the one problem that several people have commented on: This clock is without a doubt very difficult to set and adjust. Don't believe me? Can't see how anyone should have trouble setting a clock? Have a look at the reviews where the authors have written how to adjust some setting. Someone else posted images here at Amazon of the instructions that come with the clock. Search the web for keywords like [spc364 sharp clock adjust] and see how many people are trying to find out how to adjust some setting on this clock.
Believe me, when you have all these people trying to find out how to adjust one setting or another on a clock, this should tell you that the user interface design for this clock is poor.
(I happen to get periodic practice adjusting my clock's settings, since every few months my granddaughter plays with the clock by pressing all the buttons on the back ;^)

Customer Reviews:
BIG BLUE with outdoor temperature.......2007-10-26
Has exactly what i needed, big digits, but not too brigh and outdoor temperature. I also liked the fact that the clock set itself once I plugged it in.
Nice and pretty clock.......2007-09-11
Easy to understand menu, once plug in then press and hold the time zone button for 5 second then press either + or - key to choose your time zone and the time and date will set automatic.
The clock has a beauty lighter blue-violet back-light that stay on all time and is auto-dimmer, the digit is about 2 inches in darker color make the display easy to read in all angle, The temperature sensor is only around 1-2 degree difference on my, it's not a big deal, The only draw back is the alarm set and sound, it start as beep sound then gradually go faster and faster make it sound like a bell, but the volume is low(lower then my microwave reminder sound), and have to press the alarm set button 3 times to active the alarm every time, I do not use it as an alarm clock, so it doesn't matter to me, I put it in the office to replace the other one use battery operated and without back light, the nap timer is useful though. has a memory function in case of power outage and could use 3AAA back up battery for alarm.
The clock is around 4Lx6Hx8W", the display size is about 3x5". It is pretty though.
