Customer Reviews:
Wow- everything went wrong except sending fax.......2007-12-23
After about 6 months of VERY light use - we can't print, copy or receive faxes because we constantly get "ink carriage jammed" error message and the scanner software NEVER worked. After several calls, HP Customer Support is still trying to see if it's under warranty. But with so many things NOT working on this ALL-IN-ONE, I can't recommend it at ANY price.
Very dissappointed! Where do you go from here?.......2007-12-22
I bought this product after months of careful consideration. I spent $149 (plus $25 for the USB cord that doesn't com in the box.), and got a piece of junk! The scanner went out after less then a year of very light use. I spent all day on the phone with "tech support" and they finally determined that they needed to send a replacement. Guess what!? They did send a replacement. A REFURBISHED replacement for my NEW product, and it was like pulling teeth to get them to do that! Well surprise, surprise less then a year later the refurbished is now not working either. Every time you print a page it holds on to it and the cartridge cradle bangs back and forth, and shoots error messages out! Therefore I can't align new cartridges because you have to print a page to do that, and after you clear up all the error messages it cancels the alignment. So I get a lot of ruckus for printing a page and it's not aligned so the printing job sucks. I'm sorry to say this piece of junk is not cutting it, and I don't know what to buy next... You'd think 2 months of careful consideration, reading reviews, and talking to actual users would help you make a decision, but this is what I got for doing that. STAY AWAY from HP. Their customer service is NOT!
No Good.......2007-12-22
Ordered this 5610 hoping that because HP labeled it, it would work. Well, no such luck. In 20 years of computing I have had more trouble with printers than any computer. Including HP, Okidata, Canon, Epson, you name em. This particular one sounded to good to be true and it was. It printed, scanned and copied fine, even received a FAX ok, would not transmit one to save your life. Before sending back first one, had phone Co tech check dedicated FAX line, no problem. So, orded a second, as I read on-line that something called the LUL module had been acting up in these models. Second one arrived and exact same problem. So back it goes too. Cannot recommend. If you get one that works consider yourself lucky.
Hp 5610 all in one printer.......2007-12-21
The HP all in one printer is all that it states. Works fantastically easily installed and worth the price.
Great, Reliable Product.......2007-12-20
I've been using this printer for a couple of years now, and it has worked splendidly well. It performs superbly in all its functions. In fact, this model is so good I purchased four of them: for my home, office, my parents' home, and a friend.
Pros:
1) Reliability. I've put my printer to some rough use, but I have not experienced significant problems, other than paper occasionally jamming (although I can't remember the last time it did this).
2) Great software. Unlike other printer/scanner software that gets in your way, this one is very useful, especially if you scan a lot.
3) Great scanner/copier. The automatic feed scanner is, in my opinion, the best feature. With the given software, you can easily scan documents into searchable PDF. And the automatic feeder can usually take a lot more than the advertised 25 pages.
4) Low price.
Cons:
1) This is obviously not a super fast machine in any of its functions. If you print/scan/fax/copy for professional or presentation purposes, then you're looking at the wrong price range.
2) No network capability. You can't hook this computer to a router to share on your home or office network (unless you get a USB-LAN converter for another 100 bucks). This omission can be really annoying and a huge turn-off for some users, but I've grown used to it.
3) Cartridges are expensive and run out fast. See below for how to address this issue.
4) The paper holder can't hold many pages, perhaps 60 pages or so.
Tips:
1) If you want to extend your cartridge life by 2-4 times, change default printing preferences to "FastDraft" and, under Basics>Advanced features, reduce "Ink Volume" to minimum. You will notice a reduction in print quality, but if you're just printing for home/casual use, these changes will save you a ton of ink.
2) Do not scan documents with staples, or any other hard objects. This can permanently damage the glass pane, which may give you lines or streaks on everything you scan.

Customer Reviews:
dead out of the box.......2007-12-24
Looks great, I bit big, but it was dead on arrival. Never got past the internal self check. Had to return the printer before I ever got a chance to use it.
Handy All In One For Home Space.......2007-12-24
I purchased two of these when they were on sale over the holidays. I have one in my office space at home. The scanner is incredible & nice quality as I've scanned both old photos & printed text with it. Has handy features with are user friendly to add to materials after they've been scanned. Anyway, is user friendly, though I haven't tried all of the features YET, BUT what I have tried so far has left me very satisfied.
Best printer for the money.......2007-12-20
Best printer for the money...the only reason it doesn't get 4 stars is because this thing DRINKS ink, and we all know ink jets cartrides are expensive.
Excellent all-in-one. .......2007-12-19
I love this thing. I'm glad I bought it. Does so much, looks nice, doesn't take up that much space. Takes care of all my needs. I run out of ink pretty regularly but I guess that's true with most printers nowadays. Thumbs up.
Working Great.......2007-12-19
The Pixma MP530 quickly connected and operated properly on a PC running Windows, and a Mac running both Vista and Mac OS 10.4.11. It will take some time to see how the ink cartridges hold out, but so far they seem to be doing fine.

Customer Reviews:
i'm very satisfied.......2007-12-23
I needed an inexpensive small footprint fax machine for light home/office use. I've had this about a month, have used it lightly, it has worked consistently and seems solid. Set up was extremely easy and straightforward. I first got a regular fax machine made by Brother, the model 575, which i liked at first but soon found that the paper frequently jammed, even if i only put a few sheets, and after only about three weeks of very light use, it said it needed a new ribbon. I returned it to Staples and tried to find another model there that would not be too big and would hold more paper, but everything else was way too big for my space. While i was there i saw this HP 4315 and liked the size but it was about $90 and i liked the price of the Brother better. I went home and looked at Amazon reviews and found that the larger fax machines by Brother and others also had reports of frequent paper jams and ribbon changes. I also saw that Amazon had this HP 4315 for $59. I was trying to decide when i found one of these on Craigs List for $45 and figured for that price i could try it out and take a chance. It was in like new condition and i've been very happy with it, much easier for me to set up than the Brother which i needed to call tech support for a little help with, and it definitely has a more solid feel than the Brother did and has had no problems whatsoever, whereas i was not receiving all my faxes with the Brother, though i was never sure if this was due to the fax machine or some other problem, but have received all with the HP. It is a bit bigger footprint than the Brother and i had to find a different space for it, but i have been very glad i got it. The Amazon price is great and if the one i got on Craigs List stopped working, i'd get a new one on Amazon. I don't need the all in one function, we have another HP all in one, flatbed, that prints, copies and scans but doesn't have a fax.
The only thing i don't like is that the display is in monochrome is not lighted so it's too hard to see and if i need to see it i use a flashlight, but my daughter says she can see it ok. I would like it better if it had some kind of back light while in use. This wouldn't stop me from getting another one though.
Perplexing..........2007-12-16
First let me state that my 3 star rating is not based on the machine -- it seems to be an excellent value and time will tell if it holds up -- but on the frustration encountered in receiving the machine. As you will notice, you have to order the cable separately -- and it ships separately. I received the printer but no cable UNTIL DAYS LATER -- so there it sat, of less use than a doorstop. Why on earth HP and Amazon -- two heavyweights of the manufacturing and retail world -- can't provide a complete setup is beyond me. I'm sure the cable (standard USB to connect to computer) is right for 98% of customers, so why not include it? Add the 5 bucks to the cost of the machine, but don't leave us holding a piece of equipment that's useless without a simple cable.
Organize my documents in digital format.......2007-11-22
I purchased this item maily for scanning my documents to organize.
Pros: Work well with omnipage batch manager. Scanning quality is good. Fast starting and scanning for home use. very compact. Easy to clean scanner surface.
Cons: You have to be patient to install software, take long.
Didn't Last Long.......2007-11-20
I liked this printer - while it worked. Its lightweight and easy to use. The one complaint I had with it was that the ink gauge was always off significantly. It would suggest I replace the print cartridge several weeks before it actually ran out of ink.
My main complaint with the printer was that shortly after the warranty ran out the scanner malfunctioned. This prevented using it for scans, copies, and outbound faxes - the only thing I could do was to receive faxes and print. I only use the printer a couple of times per month, so was very disappointed with the short shelf life.
all in one printer, fax, copy, scan, HP office jet 4315.......2007-11-06
Fabulous small machine, beautiful scanning abilities, great colorful copies, haven't faxed yet, but it's a perfect size and closes up to be smaller when not in use!!! A great buy!!

Customer Reviews:
Good Printer Questionable Build Quality.......2007-12-23
After two weeks of very little use the scanner stopped working. Cannon provided outstanding e-mail based tech-support. Unfortunately no fix. They are providing an express warranty exchange. I will be getting a refurbished printer in the next day or two. I hope that this one will hold up better under normal use.
Great printer when it works.......2007-12-17
The like everything about the printer/scanner/fax on the days that it works. The problem is that only works for a while and then it says that there are two ink tanks of the same color installed (which of course is not true). It won't let you print with this error. After trying to reset it in other ways I end up popping out the ink cartridge that it says is a duplicate and reinstalling it. That fixes the error every time...BUT the next error says you've installed a refilled ink cartridge and once again you can't print. Or it can't recognize the cartridge when you put it back in. The only solution I've found is to replace a 3/4 full ink cartridge with a new ink cartridge. That's not cheap, but cheaper than throwing a brand new printer out the window. I should also mention that I've only ever used Canon brand ink cartridges that are brand new. So, the printer is great if you don't have these problems, but are you willing to take that chance?
Perfect home office printer.......2007-12-09
I give this product five stars as a home "does everything" printer. Having said that, I could understand why a high volume office user could rate it much lower. Although I am retired, I am very involved with two national non-profits that causes me to need all the features of this printer. I'm constantly using the printer for copying, scanning and faxing but I do not do high volume printing so I'm not concerned about the cost per page.
The batch scanning feature is alowing me to convert most of my paper files. All-in-all, the printer is a solid, full-featured, machine that should satisfy the needs of anyone whose print volume is in the low to medium volume range. Anyone with high volume needs should take the time to complete an indepth cost/benefit comparison between various printers.
Great printer.......2007-12-04
Print quality is excellent. Scanning works well and reasonably fast. No complaints about the hardware at all. The documentation could be better.
Canon Quality - Of Course.......2007-12-02
Canon has once again outdone themselves in quality, style, performance, and reliability. All of this wrapped into one affordable All-In-One Printer.
The All-In-One MP830 fits the bill in so many ways. I found this machine to be extremely easy and hassle-free to use...
But wait - the best part for me has been "FUN". Yes, I said it. F. U. N.
It has so many bells and whistles, I now print things that I wouldn't have bothered with the old printer for before. Now, with so many features and such clear printing, I have been printing away like crazy.
From the light-up printer cartridges, the automatically opening tray, to the full color screen, it really takes printing to the next level.
Speed is the key for my business. I used to have the MP130 All-In-One, which really did NOT cut it for my small business. The fact that I needed something that was functioning faster, printing quicker, and could handle big jobs, this was the ticket for me. I had a flyer to print out, which required me to switch over to the Laser Jet cartridge, and the couple minutes flew by as it whipped up 100 pages. I couldn't believe my eyes - one page after another.
Talk about precision. I had used the photo paper printing tray option, and the pictures came out above the quality of what I had ever expected. After all, I had been let down with the others so much, that I never thought a photo could be this good from a printer.... Better yet, without even using expensive 'photo ink', which now seems somewhat unnecessary (pardon those who prefer to pay extra for it, may see better quality than these untrained eyes do).
The price point was right for me. I didn't want to spend $700 for a serious laser jet printer. I simply can't see paying that much for something that will require me to buy yet another photo printer and fax machine. This does everything i need it to do. Period.
Find the extra function. There's something a little extra special about this printer that I cannot say here (because of legal reasons in the US), but it does have the capability to perform one more function if you get the correct driver software for it (hint: It's not going to print money. lol).
The best factor of this printer, was the universally available cartridges, so I know I won't run into trouble with buying replacements in stores or online like I had in the past with other printers. It also seems to be MUCH more thrifty with the ink, combined with bigger tanks, I am not running out of ink nearly as quickly as I had.
I was trying to think of any complaints I might have, and I simply cannot think of any. If you want the best value mix of quality, function, price, and speed for your money, buy this All-In-One.

Customer Reviews:
It does it all!.......2007-12-22
This printer has some really great functions. The print quality is amazing for both photos and documents. I have hundreds of 35mm negatives that I am transferring to digital. It is a slow process, but now I can quickly go through my photos and fix red eye, white balance, convert color photos to black and white, etc. It does duplex printing (double-sided like a professional copy machine). I even changed the noise level of the printer to quiet mode from 10pm-8am so I don't wake/keep up my wife. It took about 30 minutes to set up and align the printer. I had a 5 year old HP PSC 750 and the scanner and copier functions finally died. The PIXMA MP810 takes a bit more reading, but that is because there are much more options and things that this printer can do. I have had it for only 4 days and have no regrets!
Great! Way more printer than we need!.......2007-12-13
This is a great printer...way more than we need or will begin to understand...but we are very happy with the quality and how easy it is to use. I would buy again!
Excellent Print Quality - Very Impressed.......2007-11-17
I am not an expert on photo printers but I do not see how the prints that this printer creates can be any better. All my friends are impressed with the quality of the printed photos. Really Amazing. Scanner works great. Have not tried scanning 35mm or Slides yet which was a factor in buying this model. Was delivered very fast by Amazon which had the best price after research. Reading the reviews was a major factor in my decision to purchase(Amazon and CNET).
great printer.......2007-11-05
we bought this for our business and am very pleased with the quality it produces.
Buyer Beware: Cartridge scam.......2007-10-30
Seriously: watch out. This monster has proprietary cartridges that are verified via microchip. Fine. But the bigger problem is that the microchips tend to malfunction. When they do, and the printer can't recognize its cartridges, it shuts down completely--no printing, but also no scanning!!! Just appalling. I'm sending mine back asap. Do a google search to confirm this is a widespread problem, if you're skeptical.

Poor Scanner.......2007-12-21
Not very happy with this AIO. I hate the scanner output. If you want to scan something like a passport, half the page is near BLACK!!! I had a very similiar HP Photosmart AIO and it produced great scans, I was expecting the Officejet to be even better.
Worse Printer Ever.......2007-12-19
I owned another HP Printer for 4 years....I think it was the 5310 all in one. It worked fantastic, but eventually, it needed to be replaced, and the HP tele-salesperson convinced me to upgrade to the 6310. The first one they sent me was so slow that I had to send it back for a new one. The replacement was even worse. I'm talking about an average time to copy a single black and white page of 112 SECONDS. You've got to be kidding me. I can't imagine copying multiple pages. The copy function on this printer is ridiculously slow. Printing from the computer is a lot faster, unless there is a paper jam, which happens all too often. Also, it is very inconsistent when printing envelopes...most of the time it prints on an angle or jams the printer. If someone gave me this printer for free I wouldn't take it. The only reason I give it one star, is because there are no ZERO STARS. This is one of the worst product experience that I've ever had. I asked HP if I could return it and pay the difference for an upgrade and they refused to do it, so I'm stuck with it. I hope you don't make the same mistake as me. Stay away from this model. PERIOD.
Great Three In One.......2007-12-07
Replacement for an older copier. Works very well. Paper feed is much improved over the HP2575. It also uses the same ink cartridges as the 2575 so can use the set of cartridges that I had just bought. The PhotoSmart was more convenient for printing pictures from "MEDIA". This HP 6310 requires that you first print an index sheet. Not good.
Not quite ready for Mac Leopard.......2007-12-02
The HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One is a standard Copy, Scan, Print and fax machine -- adequate for all those purposes. However, don't buy this just yet if you are running Leopard (OS 10.5) on your Mac. You may print and copy, but Scan is not recognized. I alerted HP to this right after Thanksgiving, 2007, and was told by the online tech rep they are "tirelessly working on it." No time horizon was given for this, but I don't expect a remedy before January.
Decent machine, bloated and buggy software, terrible support.......2007-11-21
I have had this machine since june 2006. This is a decent machine if you can get past its software.
The good :
- Built-in networking.
- The print quality is good.
- The cartridges don't run out too quickly and are widely available.
- The ADF is very convenient.
- All the features are accessible over the network.
- Works well under Win XP
The bad :
- The software is extremely bloated. Count on at least a half hour to an hour per machine to install it for network use.
- The speed is not anywhere near advertised. We are talking more like 30s for the first black & white copy to be complete in average mode, not 30ppm.
- Some features are badly broken under Vista, even with HP's latest Vista drivers from March 2007. a) The OCR software produces garbage PDFs under Vista. b) the card reader doesn't work over the network, even after applying one of HP's fixes
- Tech support is terrible. I tried to escalate the vista problems, but spent hours with someone in India who was useless and just couldn't do anything besides tell me to uninstall and reinstall the drivers (thanks, that didn't work ...)).
- No duplex printing, scanning or copying. I need this for my next machine. But it won't be an HP due to the terrible problems with Vista and tech support.

Wireless problems and how I resolved them..........2007-12-20
I just received this printer today as a replacement for my HP d135. When I configured wireless networking, the printer continually locked up and required unplugging from the AC power, and connecting an ethernet cable to regain any control over the printer. Once I got it to respond, I had to go into the advanced network settings, turn off "automatic IP" which uses DHCP.
After manually specifiying an unused static IP address on my network, I re-enabled the printer's wireless network. Now, wireless networking behaves as it should, and the printer seems to work quite well (I've tested every feature except faxing so far). I like the printer and the scan to network folder features which work fine. The actual printing operation isn't very noisy at all, however, when the machine feeds a sheet of paper, that's when it is a bit noisy.
I chose this printer because of the wireless, scan to folders, draft print speed, and the fact that there are continuous ink systems available for it.
Hopefully my review can save some other people from hours of frustration with the bugs in HP's firmware. I'm an engineer and have worked with hi-tech stuff for over 20 years.
Now where do I send the bill for my wasted 3 hours working around your bugs HP? Spank you very much! I like the printer, but for heaven's sake do some software quality control!
Well Worth The Money!.......2007-12-10
After reading the reviews, I was very hesitant to buy it as some of the negatives were strong enough to cause me pause. Still, after much, much deliberation and comparing, I went for it. And I'm glad to report that most of it is like I was hoping - that if you a) read the directions, and b) take into account what you're getting for the money, this printer rocks!
Pros:
#1 - All it does for the money, bar none, nothing compares (I'm not even going to begin, I bet you already know!)
#2 - Print quality is fabulous - text is crisp, and I just printed some pics on high quality glossy paper, best of any printer I've had!
#3 - Extra paper tray nearly pays for the printer - disregard earlier complaints about how it handles the trays, all you have to do is read the directions - put plain paper in the extra tray (which is tray 2)(holds a whole pack, which is a big reason I bought this baby!), make it the default, and "lock" tray 1. For me, works great, I'm happy.
#4 - Works great - unlike some reviews, I've had no issues with software loading, 2-sided printing, jamming, feeding, etc. And I don't believe the plastic is so cheap that you feel it's going to break...I think it's just fine.
Cons - Ok, a couple
#1 - Yes, it's louder than anything I've had, but hey, how can I expect the quietness of a $10k pro machine 'at the office' for a $500 home model?
#2 - The sensor on the document feeder is a hair trigger - if I sneeze, I get an error msg saying the doc feeder is open and I need to close it - I then go over and tap it, it goes away. Now then, I haven't called anyone, and I'm going to, hoping for good results, will post a follow up...but if this doesn't go away, it could easily be the most annoying thing I've ever seen and be a total deal breaker for me...stay tuned
#3 - I don't really care for the PhotoSmart software, and so far, I can't find a way around it, gotta use it if you want to use the pre-programmed buttons on the face. Not a deal killer, but wish they had made it so I could hit a scan button and it would go straight to my MS-Digi Image Pro, which I love.
All in all, let me save you the trouble - I shopped until I dropped, and for the relatively little dough I spent, I'm very happy. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
Warning -- DO NOT BUY -- terrible printer.......2007-11-27
I bought this printer to replace last year's model, which irreparably broke just after the warranty period ended -- I should not have been so quick to buy another HP. As it turns out, I actually bought three of these in rapid succession, trying to get one that works. I'm finally looking to return the last one for good. First one gave a message that the ink cartridge door was open when it wasn't. I called HP, there was nothing they could do, so I returned it to the store for a trade. When I opened the second one, I discovered that it had been opened and returned before. I wanted to start with a fresh one, so I brought #2 back. The third one installed fine. Then I did the wireless setup wizard, and the printer said it was connected, and to press OK to continue. That's when it locked up. Only way to restart was to unplug -- which is not recommended -- and then plug back in while pressing #/6.
We did this a few times. We follow the same steps every time. Sometimes we succeed in getting the wireless to work. Most times it fails. Sometimes the printer works for a couple days, but often when we come in , it's locked up and we need to play the, "let's see if the printer will start today" game.
When it does work, it's incredibly noisy.
If I could give this thing a negative 5 I would.
What a shame that HP still has a reputation for quality, but sells such junk.
Wear your earplugs.......2007-11-13
I purchased this to replace a Brother MFC 9700, which was a workhorse but had horrible scanning software, which did not allow the user to set up a default scan mode for paper size and resolution, so I had to reset from their default every scan - tedious. I trusted reviews that the HP software was very good. It may be but it is not user-friendly, and I am having trouble figuring out how to save scan profiles and how it interacts with Acrobat, which at least was straightforward, if tedious on the Brother. Setting up the printer as a wired network printer was a challenge (with XP) although network set up seems to be a challenge with any component on Windows. The biggest weakness of the printer is that it is INCREDIBLY noisy. It is almost as if it were designed to make the most noise possible, and it shakes itself and my desk with every print and scan. It has the same effect on my blood pressure as a baby crying inconsolably, or two cups of strong coffee. If it were only the printing, I would chalk it up to it being an inkjet vs. the laser Brother, but scans are thunderous as well. Part of it may be due to its incredibly cheap construction, whihc admittedly was plain to see in the store. I plan to move it into a remote area, and use the Brother in my desk. Unless I can't figure out how to use the scan software as I had hoped, in which case you can buy this printer cheap on Craigslist. As we all know, retail stores unfortunately don't usually have demo machines to test out anymore. You can always return (maybe less the shipping and "restocking fee", but by the time one takes the printer out of its complex packaging and spends an hour assembling all the parts (which I didn't have to do with the Brother two years ago), the thought of dismantling and repackaging is a strong deterrent to returning the product.
Make Sure You Consider This!.......2007-11-08
I've had the unit for 3 months. Two complaints (everything else is ok by me). 1. The fax machine can print a receipt but it can not print a receipt that shows a portion of the faxed document. It only shows the date, time, pages and phone number. Not the fax's content or a portion thereof. Hence, you have NO WAY of proving the content of a fax. After decades of fax machines being around, how a company can not include this is beyond me. If you need to prove anything was ever faxed DO NOT PURCHASE THIS. IN FACT, THIS MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE WHOLE LINE. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK! Second, it's loud when printing....Everything else has been what I expected.

Customer Reviews:
Don't buy HP All in Ones on Windows.......2007-12-23
The software that comes with these devices is excessive garbage. The whole setup is basically designed to sell more ink. Our printer gets into a mood where it constantly resets itself whenever you try to print with less than 10% of ink remaining. It whirs and grinds for about 3 minutes, then flashes on and off. All of this is a result of the feeble software it comes with- it takes ages to install, a sure sign that it is doing too much.
I took a similar HP all in one and plugged it into my Mac Pro desktop, never letting an HP CD near the machine. It brought up a little picture of the printer and just worked.
If you put the Windows CD in, even on XP, it's the beginning of the end for you. Don't buy one of these things. I'm going back to my Xerox scanner and Samsung color laser printer. They might not be "all in one", but they work flawlessly.
Terrific printer, especially for photos.......2007-11-29
As a former professional photographer, a printer's performance as a photo processor is really where the rubber meets the road. Let's face it, in this day and age, almost any multi-function unit from a reputable manufacturer will do a good job on the typical uses of faxing, printing and scanning documents, and that sort of thing. But how will they perform as photo printers?
I shoot Nikon pro-level cameras and lenses, both film and digital. I have a Canon 9950F dedicated print scanner, a Nikon CoolScan negative/slide scanner, and an HP 8750 as a dedicated printer for larger format photo prints.
