Just don't put your fingers into it! This fan gets the job done for sure. I've used just about every major fan out there, and this one is great for the money. Have it on an HTPC, and it does the job.

Looks okay, doesn't fit?.......2007-08-15
I have two P4 machines, socket 775 and one Celeron D machine, same socket. When I needed a new cooler for one of my P4 machines I took the one from the Celeron and attached it so the P4 could keep running imeadiately.
I then ordered this one for the celeron, and it doesn't fit, not even close.
The copper is round, meaning that on either my P4 or Celeron machines only about 80% of the square proccessor surface area would be in direct contact.
Also, the Unit is square, all three of my socket 775 machines require rectangular mounting.
I don't know what this fits, but of my three socket 775 mother boards, none of the above.

This cooler works well and has a decent quality design and copper-core. The fan is quiet, although I had to return the first one I ordered because the fan completely died after only a few weeks. Considering how many Thermaltake fans I've purchased over the years, I think they have had a darn good track record, notwithstanding this one. The only problems, albeit minor, I had with this cooler was when I had to remove it, as other reviewers have already mentioned. The fan has to be removed and the 4 corner tabs have to be carefully rotated 90 degrees with a screwdriver to release them from the motherboard. Once that was done, it released pretty well. Overall, for the price, this is a great value!!

This is the best budget aftermarket 775 heatsink I have ever used. I've used lots of brands - Cooler Master, Spire, etc., but this is definitely the best for the money. It dropped my Pentium D 940 20 degrees over the stock Intel heatsink. Very impressive. I'm not surprised by all the install issues people have had. I have attached a ton of the 775 heatsinks and so it took me literally 30 seconds to hook this up in a very tight case. I didn't need to pull the fan. The 775 heatsink attachment is an awful design. When I first had to hook up a 775 heatsink a few years back I couldn't believe how screwed up and counter-intuitive it was. Since then I've had lots of practice I've gotten a lot better at it - but I still run into trouble occasionally. To hook this up without pulling the fan you need to make sure that the pushpins are perfectly situated before the install, you then need to slip your finger between the fan base and each pin and carefully push it in until it clicks (no way you can use the screwdriver insets). If you don't get it right on the first couple of shots or bend one of the edges of one of the puspins you will have problems. Most decent aftertmarket 775 heatinsks skip the whole thing because it is so pitiful. They give you a screw in bracket - it usually works great, but you have to pull off the motherboard to install it.

I bought this cooler to replace the stock Intel cooler that came with my Pentium 4 CPU. I wanted a quieter fan, and I knew Thermaltake makes quiet fans. I also one that would fit in a Micro-ATX case I was using; however, this fan didn't fit in that case. The 3 arms on top of the fan made it too tall, and the case's power supply was in the way. Luckily, I had a spare PC case that wasn't being used, so I moved everything into that case so it would fit (yes, I consider a quiet fan that important).
I have this fan in a computer that's running all the time. After only a few months, the fan started getting loud sometimes. And it so happens that it often gets loud at night when I'm just getting into bed to sleep. It might just be the particular one I bought, but I might look around for a different one.

As a previous reviewer said, you need to remove the fan to install it right. I did not believe first and struggled to do the "easy" way. After 15 minutes of frustration, I finally removed the fan and it was secured in 60 seconds.
