Works in Dell Optiplex Small Form Factor.......2007-12-21
I was disappointed when I bought my new pc to find out that I couldn't get video off my Sony camcorder via one of the many USB ports (Sony doesnt support this in Vista). This card does fit into the one available PCI slot in my Dell Optiplex 755 and the provided cable plugged right into my camcorder dock. Works like a charm, now I have all my videos on my PC.
Patience tester.......2007-12-12
It took a lot of finaggling to install. I had to jam it in the right spot, which is a really tight space in my computer apparently. It wouldn't read at first, so I just took it out and put it back in again and then it popped up and installed. If it doesn't read on your computer right away DON'T PANIC, like I did, just keep trying to take it out and put it back in.
Low Profit FireWire card is perfect for slim computers.......2007-07-05
This card fit perfectly in the slim Dell C521 PC and was recognized by the Vista OS immediately. When I connected the camcorder to it, it recognized it and gave me options to edit the tape in the camcorder. I did not encounter any problems. Very good product.

Fit perfectly in my slim Dell C521 Desktop. Works great and was immediately recognized by the system. If you have the C521 I would really recommend this for firewire drives and video / regular cameras. Works flawlessly! Would have preferred to get it cheaper as some have but I needed quickly and it has performed perfectly!
StarTech Low Profile FireWire Card.......2006-11-05
I'm as low tech as they come. I needed a firewire port so I could upload from my digital video camera. I had no idea what I was doing. I got the specs for the card from my computer manufacturer. I followed the directions that came with the card. It took me all of five minutes to install and I haven't had any problem with it. Yay!

Did Not Fit Into My Dell Dimension E520 Desktop.......2007-08-29
Everything looked fine, but I didn't do my homework and I couldn't get it to fit into my Dell Dimension E520 desktop (which is NOT that slim). I returned it and am going to try the low profile version instead.
Firewire Card.......2007-08-10
I bought this card explicitly to pull video from my Sony Handycam to my PC. The card works great with XP. No issues at all. Best of all, it came bundled with a cable and Ulead Video Studio LE which is all you need to make home movie DVDs.

I own a Sony MiniDV Handycam. I was having a difficult time capturing video footage with a USB cable. The image was so pixelated - even in the little capturing box. So, a friend recommended this product to me and so far so good. The transferred footage is crystal clear. I have yet to try all of the other features of this product - but so far, it suits my needs.

You can't beat this one for a firewire port. $20 for a name brand (startech) port that comes with a cable to hook to your camcorder (or other device) and editing software. Install was simple as it should be with a PCI card and Windows XP. Software is not bad at all...especially when you consider what you would pay if purchased separately. The card has 2 external ports and an internal port...which is handy for some...some computer cases have a front firewire port and with the right connecting cable, this internal port can be used to set-up a front firewire connection.
Bottom Line: It does what its supposed to, comes with a cable and software, most home computer certainly don't need more than 2 ports...perfect for the home user looking for great value
