awsome.......2007-12-07
This has got to be one of my favorite add ons to my Ipod! It is great for when you fall asleep in class and wonder what you missed.
unsuitable for music because it skips constantly..........2007-11-09
unsuitable for music because it skips constantly...
very disappointing!
don't buy this if you want to use it for music!
it works with my 2nd generation ipod nano, but it noticeably skips constantly.
it's fine for voice memos, but why bother building a stereo mic then...?
very disappointed by Griffin!
i would have returned it, but I gave it to a friend to record his lectures instead.
nice!.......2007-11-04
i have no complaints about this item. i have seen reviews by people who are recording music. but that's not what it's for. it's for voice notes. undoubtedly one could use it to record music, however, but i would keep it to solos, duos or trios. the more complicated the score, the more playback will distort.
i use it for lectures in a 144 square foot room and leave my iPod up in front of the class. the lecturer is clear, however, i can hear my own questions being asked from the back row.
there are high and low settings for quality and low is sufficient for my purposes. it uses the least amount of battery power. i have recorded up to 4 hours. the battery life was "in the red" at the end of the 4 hours, but after removing the iTalk, the battery bounced back to "in the green" (about half left).
some reviews also mention that the whirring sound of the disk inside the iPod is audible. it is, but it's so quiet, not interfering, and only intermittent.
if you really want to make the item worth your dollar, do not buy it from apple, buy it here from a z-shop.
italk alot.......2007-09-27
Great product and easy to use. The only thing that may need to be improved upon is maybe having a release button to be able to eject from ipod.
Great little piece.......2007-09-24
I bought this with the intention of recording lectures & my own voice for test review. This is a great recorder & for the price you can not beat it. I have the Ipod Nano & despite what others may have said it does indeed fit & is very easy to use! The only thing I would complain if any is it is very sensitive to surrounding noise, if you are not in a quite setting it will record what is around you. Playback is super clear!

For the technician, not the musician.......2007-12-26
When I opened the box the headphones came in I was immediately impressed. The ATHM40fs headphones are well made and sure to stand up to years of use. The information the other reviewers have given is essentially correct. Technically these are superior phones. And they have, as the manufacturer has stated, a flat, extended frequency response for mixing/monitoring. As a musician first, I was more interested in how pleasing the sound was to my ears. Most people cannot hear frequencies that go past a certain point, whether high or low. As a skilled musician I've known for some time that I can hear sounds that most people simply cannot hear. These headphones were very flat sounding to me. There was a noticeable hum that was very irritating. It was so irritating that listening to classical music was almost impossible. And when you turn the volume up the hum also gets louder. This does not happen with my stereo speakers or my old headphones. The listening experience I would rate as poor. I recently went to a classical concert. I purchased the CD of the live concert. When it came in the mail I was thrilled. It sounded great on my speakers, just as it did live. Again, it sounded awful on these headphones. Very hollow sounding - and that hum! The only choice I have is to send them back.
The best sound came from old recordings, even older Led Zeppelin recordings, where the recording itself was inferior. This distortion on the recording (Which I was expecting anyway) helped mask the hum of the headphones.
If you are a high level musician and your ears do not deceive you, then do not buy these headphones for listening to your quality recordings. If you are a technician and interested in mixing and hearing things you may not normally want to hear, then these are a good choice.
Like 'em alot!.......2007-12-23
The quality of these headphones blew me away. They are comfortable, don't squeeze at all, the single cord is nice, lots of padding on the ear cups and head band does its job. The sound quality is superb, no buzz or hum in the background at all, music is reproduced as wonderfully as advertised. The headphones block out most background noise without putting pressure on you ears or head. These headphones are set up with an 1/8" stereo jack, so get a good quality adapter if you have a music player that is newer than 1981. I've been using these headphones alot for the past month since I got them...they seem to be holding up perfectly, nothing is showing wear, sound quality is still great. Buy and be happy!
Excellent sound for an excellent value.......2007-12-04
These are the best headphones I've ever owned. The quality of sound is amazing. It's like hearing my music for the first time. I couldn't be happier with these headphones. The chord is really long so you can move around quite a bit while listening to your music. I also like the over-ear style because it blocks out a lot of noise so you can listen on a lower volume and not miss out on all the musical details. I looked at a lot of noise-canceling headphones, but they all seem to hiss when you turn the noise-canceling feature on, which is really annoying. The style of these headphones muffles a lot of outside noise, so you focus on the crispness of the sound. I was really blown away when I first put these on and can't say enough good about these headphones. If you plan on listening to music on a computer at work (like I do), then you'll need to get a 1/4" to 1/8" audio converter for the plug (a gold plated one runs about $5 at Radio Shack).
Nothing short of WOW!.......2007-11-27
First things first. These are not for kids who wanna listen to all their hardcore screamo death metal at earsplitting volumes. These are not for people who have a 1000 watt sub in their car. These are not for people who take music casually.
These are for recording.
I don't claim to be an expert on what good headphones sound like. I've never had the money to try some 500 dollar audiophile phones. I am a very active musician; I run a studio in my bedroom and my bands practice room. I've been recording in my bedroom for about four years. I use Adobe Audition 2 as my main recording software.
The Audio-Technica ATH M40fs headphones are THE BEST headphones I have ever heard. I'm sure they're not the best in the world. They're just the best I've used, and I'm pretty sure they're the best for the price.
With these headphones I can hear subtleties and nuances that I never believed possible. I can hear breath noise on the flute intro to Yanni's Deliverance. I can hear the bass on Dreamgirl by Dave Matthews without it beng muddy. I can hear the rumbling lows on the intro to The Battle from the Chronicles of Narnia Soundtrack. These headphones are not bassy, nor are they harsh on the mids, they're not overly trebly either. They are very flat as far as I can tell. I love that I can hear all the different parts to music without any of them being over-emphasized.
The downfall to these phones is that they let you hear ALL of the flaws in your own music; it's kind of depressing. If you want to sound like an amazing pro musician just by buying a new pair of headphones...look elsewhere, if you want to hear your mistakes so you can improve, and don't wanna spend a month's paycheck...then these are for you.
The thing that mainly attracted me to these headphones was the frequency range which was wider than the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's that I originally wanted. On top of that, the price was 40 dollars lower; hard to pass up.
Another feature that makes these worth your while is the Field Replaceable parts. I don't know about you, but I don't have the money to buy a new set of headphones if my cable wears out.
These have pretty good isolation. They won't block as much sound as earplugs but they block enough to keep your sound pretty pure.
If you want to hear your music in a way that you never have then buy these headphones.
Excellent choice for recording and general use.......2007-09-21
Having used many brands and types of headphones over the years in recording studio settings for many years, I was disatisified many times by the performance of many 'cans.' These AT's fit the bill perfectly for my studio as well as home needs: excellent low-end response [what's usually lacking], good design, good price. Highly recommended.

Best bang for the buck!.......2007-12-25
Great sounding headphones and very comfortable. Bought these to replace my Sony V6's of 10 years (broken due to my nephew sitting on them), which were still in great shape. So, $150 was my maximum amount that I was willing to spend on a pair of headphones for home, since I already have my pair of Shure e5's for when I'm out-and-about. I decided on these after reading a whole bunch of reviews and after trying out several headphones (Sony V6's/MDR-V900's, Sennheiser HD-280's, Bose Triports), but the K240 stood out as the clear winner for me, even next to the more expensive K271's. The headphones are extremely comfortable and were made even more so when I added a set of Nice Cans headphone covers (the stock pleather ones got a little sweaty and sticky when I wore them for more than an hour). The suspension system is pure genius taking the weight and tension off the ears and putting it on the top of my head, even after wearing for 4 or more hours. Also, if the cord ever get's destroyed or develops a short, it can be replaced by unplugging the existing one and putting a new one on. As a matter of fact, each individual part can be bought from AKG and replaced if one wears out (which I highly doubt). All in all, after a month of use, these have completely left the V6's in the history books. As time goes on and the drivers loosen up even more, the sound gets better and better! They do need a little time to sound as good as their potential, like my Shure's, so have a little patience. I would recommend these phones to anyone, especially if using an ipod or any other low power audio device. Great phones and enjoy!
All about comfort!!.......2007-11-22
These headphones are extremely comfterable after hours of use, even if you wear glasses like I do. After watching movies for 5 hours, I forget I even have them on.
Another big thing I was worried about with the semi-open design was that it might leak out to much sound, and be annoying to my roomates. In a small, quiet room, if I turn them up really loud, my roomates can hear them a little. But with "normal" listening volume, they did not hear anything! This is great for people who don't want to disturb anyone.
The sound is realy something you fall in love with the more you listen to them. The quality is so clear, I can now hear parts of songs I never knew exsisted! Listening to orchastrel pieces, it really comes alive as I can now hear every finite detail of complecated pieces. Intially I thought the bass was lacking, but I find it is actually just more true to what it really sounds like. I actually find using a flat EQ produces the best sound, but if you like more bass, just change your EQ to bassbosster and it will provide very clear, strong bass.
They only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because when I first got them the left side wasn't working. I played around with it a little, and it started to work again, but I'm afraid it could be a problem in the future. So far this has not been the case, but many people seem to have this problem, so I would use care with the phones.
Overall they are the perfect headphone, and highly recomended.
Good Build Quality and Open-Air Style Maximizes Sound.......2007-11-16
I have four pair of headphones costing between 20-50 dollars, including such brands as Sennheiser, Logitech, Sony, and Eton. They're all capable headphones but they're Closed-Back style, which, while keeping external sound out, is also harder on the ears and which, I've read, compromises sound. So for my ear safety and for a bigger sound, I opted for the AKG K24. Here's what I like: Good build quality, comfortable large ear gel ear cups, microjack fits in iPod without needing an adapter (true of all my other headphones). The sound is good, great even, but I wouldn't go so far to say they produce the "wow factor." However, be aware of the fact that I don't pump up the volume very loud because I don't want to blast my eardrums. Are they worth the price? That's a subjective question. For many who want to spend less on an Open-Ear headphone without compromising sound, I think most will be happy with the 20-dollar Audio-Technica ATH-MZX Open-Ear headphones.
Great!.......2007-11-07
I really love these, I use them for everything from editing music to playing Half Life 2, they have great response through all the ranges, even good bass, which is abnormal for Studio phones, but nice! 2 of the best features of these are the self adjusting headband (makes them very comfortable), and the removable cord (allowing you to upgrade your cord, get a curly cord, or a higher grade cable). I don't get sweaty ears wearing these, which is what I usually hate when vinyl covered ear pads, and they are comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time without taking them off-I've had them on for 6 hours or more some times. the cord is nice and nice, overall these were exactly what I was looking for in my headphone purchase.
tough to beat at the price.......2007-10-30
These are the phones to buy for 95 bucks. They shine thru the midrange and have a rolled off treble to deal with today's harsh recordings. However, the bass will distort if you turn them up with heavy rock. The circular earcups actually grab my ears on the extremities even though I have small ears. Otherwise, they are comfortable. These are better than Sonys of equivalent price, but if you want the bass to come thru at high volume and a more open and refined sound overall I would recommend the 60 dollar stretch to discounted Sennheiser HD580s.

Ok for the money.......2007-12-02
Considering how little I spent, I suppose these speakers are ok, but I was hoping for better from Altec Lansing. I have another set of speakers on a different computer that look very similar, and that I paid similar money for, but sound better even though they're not a "name brand".
Good speaker but too much radio interference.......2007-11-28
The speakers sound great with rich bass. However they suffer from radio interference. In my case I can hear a radio station no matter what volume I set them to. I tried them in several places in the house, same issue. Aluminum foil on the cord that connects the control to the subwoofer seems to help a little. Cellphone in vicinity drives these speakers crazy. Needless to say, my other Altec Lansing speaker pair (6 years old) work just fine.
Altec Lansing Good Speakers.......2007-11-13
My wife wanted new speakers to replace the 10 year old Altec Lansing ACS41 that came with my Gateway G6-233. She stated she wanted speakers that sounded as good as her Aiwa shelf system to go with her new Mac. She was not happy with the old Altec Lansing speakers.
I researched and looked at many different brands. The controls needed to be simple for my wife, and we didn't want to spend a fortune. I was unable to listen to these in a store before purchase. I was very pleased, and more importantly my wife thinks they are great.
Only down side is Bass control in not on the Control Box, but on the Sub-Woofer. Our PC now has the best sound of all our stereo systems. Obviously we don't own any high end component systems.
Best bang for your buck.......2007-10-15
This speaker system is great. You may be doubting it because of its cheap price, but it really does deliver. PROS: Low distortion on high volumes, the bass is not boomy like other systems (bass is tight instead), cool look and free mic. CONS: the mic could be better and the satellite speakers could be smaller. ALL IN ALL: a great buy. I have no regrets.
Impressive.......2007-10-04
I'm an audiophile, I listen critically to every nuance of music and enjoy faithful reproduction of it. That said, I'm quite surprised that these speakers actually create a decent image in a nearfield setup. Voices are palpable and details are presented nicely.
I've certainly heard worse for 10 times the price, that's for sure. The sub is rich and full and easily overpowers the satellites. It's not overly boomy, maybe a little 'wooly' but nice. Just keep it turned down to a third or fourth on the sub's volume control.
I'm thinking with some break-in the sats may dig a little deeper and the whole system will integrate a little better. My only criticism at this point is there is a bit of a mid-bass dip... or a hole between the midrange and deep bass... And again, I'm hoping this fills in as the speakers move more freely after more use.
I'm very impressed with this little system at any volume. It gets plenty loud for my office and you can really rock out if you want to... And it sounds good at low volume too! I'd suggest a simple placement, with satellites left and right of the monitor and do whatever you have room to do with the sub.
This system comes with a volume control that includes main volume, treble control, and a microphone in one easy-to-use unit. The main volume knob is nice and big with a light so it's easy to find and adjust quickly if the phone rings.
I haven't tried the microphone yet but my system did not come with the microphone cable (nor did it come with any instructions). You'll need a male-to-male headphone-type cable to connect the main controller and mic to the PC.
Great system for the price, highly recommended.

Motorolla 53724 Walkie Talkies.......2007-10-17
Products are good. Do NOT expect them to work at 25 miles. Range is a few miles for you to hear clearly. If your in the mountains and not in line of sight, you'll encounter a lot of static or no sound at all. Must be VERY careful not to speak too closely to the mic (either just the unit or using the handheld) or else voices come across very distorted. Definitely a good product, but with the above limitations.

Good Low-End Headphones.......2007-10-30
I bought a set of these after reading many dubious reviews of all sorts of headphones in this price range. First of all, they are very light and comfortable, and you can wear them for hours with no problems. Secondly, they sound good to me: they have a nice full sound that is a lot better than anything I have listened to in a long time. Thirdly, they seem well constructed for the price.
For the price of these things, they are really good in my opinion. If you want some headphones in this price range, this may be just what you are looking for.
Decent headphones.......2007-09-13
The AKG K66 headphones are probably the best open-backed headphones you can get for such a low price. They are open-backed, so don't plan on using them to listen to Iron Maiden at full volume in some public place and expect to get away with it. Very comfortable and fairly durable, these headphones are good investment if you don't have the cash to get those ridiculously high-priced Bose headphones you've been dreaming about.
Spend some extra.......2007-04-16
They don't swivel, so they can be incredibly uncomfortable. Everyone else can hear perfectly what you are listening too (that's bad.) They are pretty distorted, and the bass is about as powerful as a metronome. I was given them for free, and I am going to replace them with a pair of SONY 700s

If you can't afford to spend a week's equipment allowance for a few cables, then look no further than the regular Hosa brand for professional cables that work as hard as you do. Hosa pays strict attention to the basics of cable design and construction. It makes sure that the cables are well-shielded from external sources of radio-frequency and current-induced noise and that they're of the proper gauge and of high copper purity to ensure low capacitance. Correct soldering techniques are used to eliminate "cold-solder" joints, which could cause intermittent connections or "ground hums". Finally Hosa makes sure that the jacket and head-shell/strain-relief combination are rugged enough to withstand the rigors of the intended application. Hosa provides all of these benefits in every cable it makes.

A Techie Review.......2007-02-18
This microphone is a great deal for anywhere under ten dollars. If you can get it for fewer than five dollars then you got a great deal. It has the features of a really expensive one without the price. The microphone came with a desk stand and a stand to attach it on the side of your desk. Even though the desk stand was a little light so it sometimes fell over it is still good. The voice quality for recording was good even though I would recommend downloading a different program to use instead of the default Microsoft one. If you really want a really high quality recording device look into a more expensive one. One slight drawback for some is there is no software to organize your recordings and to record easily but the fact that it has no software is good so it has instant detection on the computer. I got this as a backup microphone and so far there haven't been any problems. The fact that it is cheap and it is versatile it is good for digitalizing cassette tapes and records. The back round noise is reduced to a minimum and doesn't affect recordings. Also it can be used with Microsoft Word and has a pretty good voice recognition rate as long as you train the computer to your voice. For any people who want a cheap and well-made microphone, this is the one. I would rate it 4.5 stars.
Bare bones, but works great on Google Talk........2006-01-17
We bought this for use on Google Talk. The voice comes over clear and the background noise seems to be held to a minimum.
Simply Plug and Play - no additonal software comes with it, nor is there a need for it. All you have to do is plug it in to the microphone jack (sometimes conveniently colored pink) on the back/front of your computer -- it should start working imediatly.
Mine came with two bases: one for your desk and one that you can stick to the side or top of your monitor (or wherever.)
The cord is plenty long enough for you to be able to plug into a computer that may not be next to your monitor.
It even comes with a short troobleshooting guide (which could be useful for those that have NO experience finding the microphone volume on your computer.)
If you are looking for an inexpensive way to get your voice over the Internet, then I HIGHLY recommend this product. If you are looking for high-quality voice recording you may want to look for something more expensive.
Minus one star for the desk stand. If you pivot the mic it tends to fall out of the stand (which is weird because you have to push hard to get it back in.) Not meant to be a true pivot point or moved around alot. Just set it and forget it.

Connect the VXIParrott PE100 headset system to your office telephone to increase your productivity and enjoy a more efficient workflow. Holding the telephone receiver between your neck and shoulder can cause stressful upper body pain, but with a headset your neck remains upright, your shoulders are squared and your body will breathe a sigh of relief. The ten foot coil cord enables you to reach more things in your work area. The ultra comfortable fit is cozy enough to wear all day long. The noise canceling microphone greatly reduces the reception of background sounds for a more professional sounding call.
