The DWL-G730AP is a portable and convenient wireless solution for the traveling business person delivering 802.11g wireless connectivity with a maximum wireless signal rate of up to 54Mbps*. Use it in conference rooms, hotel rooms, or even at hotspots. The Wireless Pocket Router/AP might be small in size, but is huge in functionality. The DWL-G730AP supports multiple operation modes including: Access Point (AP) mode to create a wireless connection; Router mode to share an Internet connection; and Wireless Client mode to connect an existing wireless network. Easily switch between these modes by using the 3-way configuration switch located at the bottom. In AP mode, the DWL-G730AP can be used to create a wireless network in a room where a single Ethernet port is provided. Now multiple wireless clients can connect to the network at the same time to share resources and files. The Pocket Router/AP supports WPA-PSK to secure your wireless data communications. In AP mode, the DWL-G730AP adds support for 802.1x user authentication with an external RADIUS server. For setup and configuration the DWL-G730AP can be accessed via D-Link's user-friendly Web-based utility.

Pocket Router unreliable.......2007-11-22
I got the Pocket Router and tried it both at home for a week and on a business trip for a week. I found that you need to read the fine print - it works well for surfing when the computer and the pocket router are in the same room, but it is unreliable when a wall is placed between the router and the device using the router. During set up, I set the encryption to WPA2 and had issues until I downloaded the WPA2 patch from MSFT. After that it appeared to work well for surfing, but I discovered that it was not good for any sustained traffic - such as VOIP or an enterprise VPN.

Very light and small it has a USB power source that can be very usefull, it's easy to setup and use, you can setup your own wireless network wherever you are.

The setup for this unit is rather difficult and I am not a novice techy. However, once setup this unit works great! The features are equal to or greater than a standard router. I use this for frequent business travel where I can share a single Internet access with colleagues.
Overall, this is a great product. The extremely small size is a big plus.

I've had this item for over a year now and it is very useful and easy to use. The size and feature set is awesome and puts larger models to shame. Seriously, it's almost as small as a pack of cards.
I was looking for a device that could be used both as a WAP or router and - unlike most - I did NOT want a device with a huge signal running 24/7. This is because I live in an apartment block in the CBD. A massive signal is overkill, especially in a building shared with quite a few university students and lots of unsecured WiFi networks out there (Are these people crazy?!?!).
With those temptations, the last thing I want is a strong signal for computer science kids and wardrivers to hook into. The signal strength on this model can be supressed as required, the security options are good, the footprint on my computer desk is tiny and the feature set is fantastic.
It would be perfect if it was WPA2.
For now I use the standard recommendations; no broadcast of SSID, MAC filtering, a small DHCP scope for the LAN, a VERY long passcode and I don't run it 24/7.
UPDATE:
With firmware ver 1.10, this device now supports WPA2+PSK. Excellent!!
Not so excellent is that after the firmware update, the device reboots and defaults to NO SECURITY AT ALL without any warning to this effect. So be quick about setting security to WPA2. :)

This unit works well but the instructions left a little bit to be desired. I've used it as a WAP (router in office upstairs has poor coverage in one of the downstairs rooms) and then as a client to hook up my wired-only DVR box to the internet (no CAT-5 there... silly me although great to see wiring the house with CAT-5 is no longer needed).
This is one of the lowest cost units out there and it can do a ton. I'd like to give it 5* but the instructions aren't overly clear for stuff besides WAP. I temporarily hosed my wireless network when I was switching this thing from access point to client. Having to choose between 4 and 5 stars, I'm rounding up my 4.5* score to 5* since who knows if the issue was the instructions or just me being impatient or both.
I'll definitely buy another TEW-430APB if I need it. It costs less than the other brands and does more.

A single wireless router couldn't cover my house. Instead, I use two access points and a (wired) router. Most access points are overly expensive. The TRENDnet WAP not only works flawlessly, it is quite reasonably priced. Highly recommended -- it's really easy to just set it and forget it.

It feels a little flimsy but it works, can't complain with that. The software is easy to use. I like the ability to use this as a client device that allows you to transparently bridge any wired ethernet enabled device to your wireless network via an existing Access Point or Router.
