replace the yellow 3 times in 3 months.......2007-12-22
This printer is five stars in clear quality printing photos and graphics (what I do for a living) but buy three yellow ink cartridges at a time because it sucks up the yellow like no other printer I have worked with. MY god could HP fix this already I have had this printer for 3 months and I haven't had to change any of the other cartridges yet that came with the printer but I have had to replace the yellow 3 times. What a waste because I rarely print anything that has yellow hues. I recommended this printer to another graphic artist before the yellow started running out and now she is have the same issue as well. She had the printer for only 1 month and has had to replace the yellow 2 times. Based on the slow down of work and cost of having to constantly replace the yellow cartridge I would not recommend this printer. FYI Tec support is no help in this matter.
Fabulous Photo Printer! 6 colors for a great price........2007-12-16
I did a lot of research before deciding what printer to buy. I wanted something just for photos as I already have a nice printer for everything else. The reviews on the Canons made me leery and the Kodak printers sounded great til I did the math on the actual print costs. I finally went to Consumer Reports and this printer was one of the top rated photo printers that they tested. I received this printer, took it out of the box and within 5 minutes I was printing great-looking prints. The paper does matter, and using Vivera inks is a must for photos. Most photo printers only do 4x6 prints. This one does any size, and quickly. It has 2 trays which is very handy. I don't have to empty a tray, resize the guides and then load another size paper. With 2 trays, both are loaded and ready to go whenever I want.
Another feature I wanted was a LCD screen. There is a nice size screen and easy navigation. This printer takes all sizes of memory cards so you don't need a computer to print. It doesn't come with a USB cable so if you want to print from your computer, get one. I had an HP cable from another printer, so I was all set to print direct from my memory card and laptop. The software is nice too - you can edit, crop, remove red eye, create album pages and lots of other things.
The only minor drawback is that the print heads move around with some vehemence and the printer rocks sideways. It's not a big deal to me but something to be aware of.

If you're buying this printer for anything other than printing photos, don't!
If you want to spend a ton of money on ink then this is the printer for you.
I saw this printer in the store because I needed a new printer to print reports on and such. I thought it would be fun to print some photos that have been on my computer for a while as well, so I bought it. It was working great for about a month and half when my black ink ran out. I also noticed my yellow ink was low as well (which is weird in itself since I mostly print reports in black ink only). When I went to the store I purchase the $22 black ink, but decided to pass on the $12 yellow ink, since I don't do too much photo printing. A few days later the yellow ink ran out and now I can't print my reports out in black ink, because the yellow ink is out! I contacted HP support and they said all ink cartridges need to be at least 30% full to print at all! I asked why I needed yellow ink if I have it set to print in black ink only. Also whether you use the ink or not it gradually runs out anyways. I barely use photo printing, just once in a while for fun, but my yellow is all out and my purple is almost out too.
I asked HP for a software update where it allows you to print in only black ink if you want, but they weren't into that. I understand that printer companies make the bulk of their money on selling ink, but this is ridiculous. Requiring users to buy 5 color ink cartridges just to print in black ink is crazy.
I don't recommend this printer for anyone who wants it as their primary printer or who wants it to print more than just photos. It will stop you dead in your tracks just when you need it because the ink dried out.

Hp Photosmart D7160 Printer. When my old HP printer died, I thought a replacement would be much too costly for me at this time. A friend suggested searching online for what I was looking for as I was interested in printing old photos as well as the usual documents. Not only did I find it in the D7160, it was a fraction of the cost I had feared it would be, shipped promptly, and has been very easy for this old lady to operate and understand. It has proved to be up to any task I ask of it. I have recommended it highly since it arrived! And the ink cartridges are much more reasonable to replace! This product replaced my confidence in Hp.
